STOLL, ein Hersteller von Flachstrickmaschinen und Geschäftsbereich der KARL MAYER GROUP, lanciert seine neueste Kollektion NOCTURNO.

Die originelle Kollektion wurde von der Abteilung Fashion & Technology in Reutlingen entworfen. Die Designer ließen sich von den Facetten des nächtlichen Lebens inspirieren und schufen Fashion-Items, bei denen unter anderem Lingerie und elegante Styles miteinander verschmelzen.

Neben außergewöhnlichen Looks zeigt NOCTURNO das Engagement von STOLL für Innovation und Exzellenz im Flachstricken. Mit dem Ziel, die Grenzen der Stricktechnologie zu erweitern, stellt die Kollektion eine Reihe von technischen Neuerungen vor:

  • Vielseitigkeit in der Feinheit: Von der gröbsten Maschinenfeinheit E1,5.2 bis E3,5.2 über die Allrounder E7.2 und E9.2 bis zur feinsten Feinheit E20 demonstriert NOCTURNO die Vielseitigkeit der Flachstrickmaschinen von STOLL.
  • Innovative Stricktechniken: NOCTURNO zeigt, wie sich durch den Einsatz neuester Stricktechniken wie FlexPly neue Dimensionen in Textur und Struktur eröffnen und Grenzen im Strickdesign erweitern lassen. Spitzenähnliche Optiken können ebenso erzeugt werden wie neuartiges Drapier- und Materialverhalten.
  • Neudefinition von Bekleidungsformen: NOCTURNO steht daneben für die Möglichkeiten der STOLL-knit and wear® Technologie in puncto Nachhaltigkeit und Vielseitigkeit durch nahtloses Stricken und präsentiert eine Reihe von nahtlosen Produkten, die den Schnitt traditioneller Strickbekleidung neu definieren und eine neue Perspektive auf die Bekleidungsherstellung bieten.
  • Modische und funktionelle Ideen für Stoll-knitrobotic® Automation: NOCTURNO stellt Ideen für Stoll-knitrobotic® vor und präsentiert Kleidungsstücke, die mit integrierten farbigen Spiegeln als modische und auffällige Details veredelt wurden. Zudem führen eingestrickte Magnete zu neuartigen Verschlusslösungen, die vielseitige Tragemöglichkeiten bieten.
  • KI im kreativen Prozess: Die Entwicklungen im Bereich der künstlichen Intelligenz hatten mittlerweile auch die Modeindustrie erfasst. Die Chancen, die sich aus dieser Technik für Stoll-Kunden ergeben, hat das STOLL-Designteam herausgearbeitet, indem es die aktuellen Tools wie Midjourney und Adobe Firefly einsetzt. Vor allem die Entwicklungszeiten können durch die schnellere Erstellung von Strickgrafiken und die Visualisierung von Produktideen verkürzt werden. Für den fantasievollen Ansatz der Kollektion steht stellvertretend ein Gedicht, das interaktiv mit ChatGPT erstellt wurde. Das generative Textergebnis findet sich in einem Haarband wieder.

The Fashion for Good Museum publishes its legacy document. The report was prompted by the museum’s closure on June 5th, 2024. It represents the museum’s mission, summarising invaluable insights gathered over six years and key results such as reaching 115.000 visitors and creating a dedicated community of more than 250.000 followers online. Committed to transparency and collaboration, Fashion for Good shares its reflections, tools, and transferable learnings, as well as the future of its collections and next steps, continuing to inspire positive change within the fashion ecosystem. All information can be accessed on the Fashion for Good website for continued use and benefit of educators, the cultural sector, and the wider public.

Looking back on its journey, the Fashion for Good Museum celebrates achievements such as hosting 115.000 visitors, including 8.000 students from 200 schools, curating 13 exhibitions, offering over 75 events, launching 4 educational programmes, reaching both current and future generations, and inspiring many to drive change in the fashion industry. With an earned media value of over 46 million Euros through press coverage since 2017, Fashion for Good's influence has been significant, evident in its 250.000 social media followers and 15.000 newsletter subscribers.

The report fulfils the promise Fashion for Good made in 2017 – to share their journey, learnings, and most impactful activities with the world. Within these pages, readers will discover reflections on their messaging, insights about creative partnerships with entities such as Lowlands Festival, Dutch Design Week, and Museumnacht to case studies of pioneering exhibitions. Their programming was created around themes and topics, such as the untold stories around cotton, circularity, and the future of biomaterials to educate and inspire visitors, ultimately empowering them to take action themselves.

Reflecting on the output of the museum during its short existence, as well as its footprint and wide reach, while acknowledging the challenges encountered during its establishment and development, Fashion for Good distilled six key lessons from Fashion for Good's sustainable museum practices:

Lenzing honoured with Vienna Stock Exchange Sustainability Award

The Lenzing Group once again received the Austrian sustainability award for top listed companies, the Vienna Stock Exchange VÖNIX Sustainability Award. Lenzing takes the first place in the ‘Industrials’ category. The award honours those companies that stand out on the capital market with their sustainability performance. According to the VBV (Austrian Sustainability Index), which is the sustainability benchmark of the Austrian stock market, the Lenzing Group achieved the best score in its category.

The Lenzing Group once again received the Austrian sustainability award for top listed companies, the Vienna Stock Exchange VÖNIX Sustainability Award. Lenzing takes the first place in the ‘Industrials’ category. The award honours those companies that stand out on the capital market with their sustainability performance. Other environmental organisations and rating agencies have also already testified to Lenzing's efforts in the area of sustainability and the transformation to a circular economy: For the third year in a row, Lenzing received a place on the annual ‘A list’ in all categories of the global non-profit environmental organisation CDP. This makes Lenzing one of only ten companies worldwide to receive a triple ‘A’ - out of over 21,000 companies assessed. Lenzing was also once again awarded platinum status in the EcoVadis CSR rating. This puts Lenzing in the top one per cent of companies rated by EcoVadis. MSCI awarded Lenzing an ‘AA’ rating for the third time in a row, placing the company among the top eight per cent of rated companies in its peer group.

Durak Tekstil: Expansion in Turkey and North America

Durak Tekstil, a Turkish developer of industrial sewing and embroidery threads, is currently making plans for a new and expanded factory at its base in Bursa, as well as opening a regional office in North America next year.

A continuous focus on R&D and the launch of some highly-differentiated products is driving the success of this third-generation family-owned company, which was initially founded in 1971 to provide Turkey with fishing net twine – at that time 100% imported. Durak then expanded into the production of rayon and polyester embroidery threads before successfully diversifying into a wide range of niche and specialised markets, while growing an international customer base. This growth has been accompanied by continuous investment in the latest advanced production technologies.

Among their products is Duma®, a centreless pre-wound under-bobbin made from strong continuous polyester filaments, which is available in various sizes and thanks to careful selection of raw materials and the use of lubrication methods retains its exact tension from beginning to end.

Working on a similar principle is the Duraless® hollow core thread, and both have a melting points of 260ºC and soften at between 220-240ºC. A high heat tolerance is achieved compared to conventional sewing threads when the shrinkage rate at 150ºC is calculated to be less than 1%. The threads show high resistance to most mineral acids, are unaffected by bleaching and micro-organisms and do not deteriorate in washing and dry cleaning.

Other innovations focus on functionality, including the new SilverPro conductive thread for smart textiles and wearable technologies, luminous Milky Way, Redolent scented thread, the Fire-Safe range of meta-aramids and para-aramids and the Cut Safe range manufactured from various combinations of UHMWPE, glass fibre and elastane.

LYCRA joins Panel at UN Fashion and Lifestyle Network Annual Meeting

The LYCRA Company, a global leader in developing innovative and sustainable fiber and technology solutions for the apparel and personal care industries, is a 2024 thought leadership partner of the United Nations Fashion and Lifestyle Network and will be participating in the third annual meeting on June 3 at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York City.

Jean Hegedus, The LYCRA Company’s sustainability director, will be joining the panel discussion on “Elevating Fashion: Sustainable Practices and Strategic Insights in the Apparel Industry.” She will highlight The LYCRA Company’s collaboration with Qore® to use its QIRA® product to potentially help reduce the carbon footprint of LYCRA® fiber by up to 44 percent.*

Available in early 2025, patented bio-derived LYCRA® fiber made with QIRA® will consist of 70 percent renewable content derived from dent corn. This renewable spandex will be the first available on a large scale and it will deliver equivalent performance to traditional LYCRA® fiber without requiring re-engineering of processes, garment patterns or fabrics.

Die Marke zeigt Lösungen für den Direktdruck auf Holz und auf PVC-freie selbstklebende Medien.

Auch Yupo als Hersteller von synthetischen Papieren ist mit strapazierfähigen, lichtbeständigen Folienanwendungen auf Tisch- und Stuhloberflächen vertreten. Die synthetischen Substrate von YUPO vereinen die ideale Druckqualität eines Premiumpapiers mit der hohen Reißfestigkeit und Widerstandsfähigkeit einer Kunststofffolie sowie einer glatten Oberfläche.

Unter dem Motto "Nachhaltige Stoffproduktion made in Germany" präsentiert Georg+Otto Friedrich textile Anwendungen wie Großbanner, Vorhang- und Bannerlösungen als Teil des neuen Konzeptes. Sowohl bedruckte als auch unbedruckte Textilien sind hier zu entdecken. Als ein führender Hersteller von Polyester-Wirkwaren mit Schwerpunkt auf innovative Lösungen für den Digitaldruck und technische Textilien für industrielle Anwendungen produziert das Unternehmen ausschließlich an drei Standorten in Deutschland.

Kornit, ein Marktführer für DTG Direct-to-Garment-Lösungen, wird in den drupa Gardens mit Schürzen für das Servicepersonal vertreten sein und damit das lukrative Potenzial digital bedruckter Textilien für den kommerziellen Drucksektor demonstrieren.

Antalis ist als Großhändler mit verschiedenen Materialien für visuelle Kommunikationslösungen vertreten und präsentiert großformatige Prints als rutschfeste Bodenaufkleber. Die gestalteten Seerosenteiche nach Fotografien des Künstlerpaares Bays & Zierhut sind in drei Formaten auf der Fläche zu sehen. Weitere Folienanwendungen finden sich als Dekorationselemente an der Kaffeestation, als Kaschierbanner für Zeltballastierungen und als lebensgroße Krokodilprints.

Massivit hat ein riesiges, 1,8 Meter langes 3D-gedrucktes Krokodil geschaffen, das zusammen mit Gartenzwergen in den drupa Gardens auf die Besucher wartet. Der neue großformatige 3D-Drucker des Unternehmens, der Massivit 3000, wird auf der Messe vorgestellt.

Around 500 exhibitors with international participation from Europe and Asia are expected at the next CHIC from 27 to 29 August in Shanghai. CHIC - China International Fashion Fair is organised by the China National Garment Association in cooperation with the China World Exhibition.

Epson gewinnt Red Dot Design Award

Die Dokumentenscanner der Serien DS-C480W und DS-C420W wurden mit einem „Best of the Best“-Award ausgezeichnet, der höchsten der Red Dot Product Design 2024 Auszeichnungen. Dies ist das fünfte Mal, dass Epson den „Best of the Best“-Award für eine seiner Produktserien gewonnen hat. Epson erhielt außerdem Auszeichnungen für eine seiner WorkForce Enterprise Business-Inkjet-Druckerreihen, für einen DTG-Drucker und den SD-10 Automated Scanning Table.

Epsons DTG-/DTF-Hybriddrucker SureColor SC-F2200 bedruckt den Stoff von T-Shirts und anderen Kleidungsstücken. Dank des kompakten Designs der Maschine lassen sie sich leicht installieren, bedienen und transportieren. Eine Verbesserung bei der Fixierung des Druckmaterials erlaubt eine einfachere Handhabung der Textilien. So und durch eine einfache Benutzerführung wurde zudem die Produktivität verbessert. Mit diesem Gerät trägt Epson zur Digitalisierung der Textildruckindustrie bei.

Tintoria Finissagio 2000 also focused on innovation when equipping a new stenter frame. The company opted for the latest development from German machine manufacturer Mahlo GmbH + Co. KG: the Orthopac RXVMC-20 automatic straightening system. The new straightening concept is specially designed for processing textiles with high distortion dynamics, i.e. textiles with highly variable distortion. Two individually controlled and driven straightening modules with a total of three bow and four skew rollers ensure that bow and skew distortions are corrected in small steps. The control concept is also new. A scanner group at the infeed of the straightener detects distortions even before they reach the correction rollers. This means that the rollers are brought directly into position and the fabric is corrected from the very first centimetre. A scanner group at the outfeed also recognises any residual distortion, which is then corrected on the second straightening module.

Saral StretchSilver 500 consistently demonstrated superior conductivity, regardless of line width.

Fluctuations at lower widths:
Both inks exhibited fluctuations at narrower printed lines, but the Alternative Ink displayed significantly higher variations.

Reproducibility Insights:
Saral StretchSilver 500 maintained stable resistance at 2mm and beyond, while the Alternative Ink noticeably struggled.

Elongation behaviour:
Saral StretchSilver 500 harmoniously coexists with the textile. Its application has minimal impact on the fabric's stretching properties, ensuring stability. The Alternative Ink, on the other hand, leads to significant changes in textile’s elongation properties. With this ink, stretching demands considerably higher forces.

The 100% recycled PET bottle from CARBIOS' enzymatic depolymerization process was made with a European value chain committed to responsible consumption of sustainable materials. The bottle’s production began with the local supply of PET waste (already collected, sorted and prepared) to the CARBIOS industrial demonstrator in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The waste used consisted of colored bottles, multilayer trays and mechanical recycling residues, none of which are currently recycled using conventional technologies. CARBIOS deconstructed the PET waste into its original monomers, PTA and MEG, using its biorecycling technology. The resulting monomers were then repolymerized into new, fully recycled PET resins within Europe. In Oyonnax, France, these resins were blow-molded by Pinard Beauty Pack to create bottles according to L’OCCITANE’s specifications, and then filled with its shower oil at its Manosque plant.

GM pump
Pumps in the GM series achieve precise dosing by feeding the flow with low pulsation. The multi-stage GM pump conveys low-viscosity media even under high pressure and the most difficult operating conditions (e.g. 250 bar, 100 mPas). The standard pump for many dosing tasks is the GM series in a square design. With the development of the multi-stage pump, the range of applications for the GM series has been significantly expanded. The round 2-stage GM pump has been specially developed for use in high-pressure technology. It fulfils the special challenge of pumping small flow rates with low viscosities. The pump serves flow rates from 0.05 to 20 ccm/rev and is therefore particularly suitable for the production of PUR moulded parts, block foam, refrigeration unit insulation or sandwich panels.  

GA series
Making products and processes more efficient is a constant challenge for manufacturing companies. This is why Oerlikon Barmag has added the GA series to the GM series especially for the demanding conveying of high-viscosity media. The GA series is available in delivery volumes of 1.25 - 30 cm³/rev (0.6-144 l/h). It is designed for pressures up to 200 bar, for viscosities up to 1,500 Pas and for temperatures up to a maximum of 225°C. With this pump series, Oerlikon Barmag offers customised solutions for process engineering processes where highly accurate and uniform metering is required.

The drum pump
The drum pump from Oerlikon Barmag is specially designed for conveying and dosing highly viscous materials such as adhesives, silicones and other highly viscous materials from drums and other large containers and for pressures of up to 250 bar. One of its special features is not only that it discharges highly viscous materials from the drum, but also that the medium can be dosed directly without an intermediate stop.

The gear pump and drum follower plate are synchronised so that the plate effortlessly reaches the bottom of the container, leaving behind only a very small residual quantity of < 1%. This reduces material costs and has a positive effect on the production process.

TOS+H Expo 2024: Successful closing

The fifth TOS+H Expo, held in Istanbul from 2 to 4 May 2024, was with 4,143 visitors from 53 countries a resounding success. At the 3-day event 163 exhibitors from 19 countries presented innovative products and technologies in occupational safety and health such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), smart wearables, AI-based health coaches and Virtual Reality applications.

The trade fair was opened by Mr Sadik Ayhan Saruhan, Vice-President of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry and organiser of the concurrently held symposium along with Mrs Eylül Aydin Kutlu and Muhammet Kamil Isik, both Deputy General Directors at the Turkish Ministry of Labour and Social Security, as well as Mrs Petra Cullmann, Executive Director at Messe Düsseldorf.

The symposium on occupational safety and social security held concurrently by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry attracted over 1,670 participants. In 16 meetings relevant topics such as safety and the prevention of occupational accidents, occupational safety practices in companies and government/local authorities as well as earthquake and disaster relief were discussed.

From June 24 to 28, a delegation of Italian textile machinery manufacturers will be engaged in Turkmenistan for an institutional mission organized by ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, and Italian Trade Agency. The delegation will have some institutional and commercial meetings scheduled in Ashgabat.

For the Italian textile machinery industry, the Turkmen market has high growth potential. Cotton is the third largest export product of the Country, and local authorities aim to develop a robust textile industry capable of processing the locally grown raw material. Significant investments in new equipment will be necessary for the success of this development program. To achieve this goal, the demand for textile machinery and technologies is rapidly increasing.

This is testified by the average annual growth rate of Turkmen textile machinery imports between 2009 and 2023 (+7.3%). Furthermore in 2024-2027 period forecasts by ACIMIT predict a further average annual increase of 5.5%.

A key feature of the mosque is its majestic arched opening facing the qibla, offering worshippers a serene view of the adjacent waterbody and enhancing their connection with nature. The structure's double-layered walls provide thermal comfort and facilitate natural light and ventilation, transforming the mosque into a "breathing pavilion." Enclosed gardens, reminiscent of light courts, provide a peaceful retreat from the bustling industrial environment.

Inside, an intricate perforated metal stairway leads to a crescent-shaped upper floor, dedicated exclusively to the female workers. This space serves as a serene meeting area and prayer room, empowering women and reinforcing their importance within the workforce.

The Zebun Nessa Mosque also showcases advanced construction technology, designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, further underscoring the innovative and resilient spirit of Bangladeshi garment manufacturers.

This mosque stands as a testament to the progressive and compassionate ethos driving Bangladesh’s garment industry. From classic blue jeans to fashion-forward designs with fresh cuts, colors and finishes, denim remains one of the most popular fabrics worldwide. At the same time, the industry is beginning to question traditional production methods that use considerable water and energy and also have limitations in terms of the selection of chemicals and dyes that are clean and safe.

Archroma will demonstrate its solutions at Denim Première Vision Milan and Denimsandjeans Vietnam, including SUPER SYSTEMS+ for Denim. SUPER SYSTEMS+ are end-to-end systems developed by Archroma to allow brands and mills to make an impact by saving resources, delivering more durable apparel or adopting cleaner chemistries, or by choosing enhanced outcomes in all three areas at once. The suite encompasses wet processing solutions from sizing to finishing; durable colors and functional effects that add value; and cleaner chemistries that go beyond compliance to anticipate future restrictions.

Trade show visitors will also be able to explore Archroma’s new DENIM HALO, a laser-friendly and easy washable denim, as well as a range of other product innovations, such as DIRESUL® EVOLUTION BLACK, DENISOL® PURE INDIGO 30 and EarthColors®.

DIRESUL® EVOLUTION BLACK is Archroma’s cleanest sulfur black dyestuff. Manufactured using fewer resources, it has an overall impact reduction to 57% during dye synthesis compared to standard Sulfur Black 1 liquid.* Importantly, it also offers mills the opportunity to deliver unique shade and wash-down effects that stand out in the market.

DENISOL® PURE INDIGO 30 LIQ is an aniline-free** pre-reduced indigo that creates authentic denim look with the same performance and efficiency as conventional indigo dye, but in a way that can reduce the risk of pollution. Furthermore, it is produced in an aniline-free** process to help enable cleaner denim production.

EarthColors® is a patented Archroma technology that creates high-performance biowaste-based dyes from non-edible food and agricultural waste, leaving the edible part available for consumption. EarthColors® dyes are fully traceable and help reduce the industry’s overall impact on the water footprint. Since they upcycle waste from other industries, they also help contribute to a circular economy.

Hygienix Innovation Award™: Nominations are open

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, has opened nominations for the Hygienix Innovation Award™. This Award recognizes a new product or technology in the absorbent hygiene, personal, pet, and wound care industries that expands the usage of nonwoven fabrics.

The Award will be presented at Hygienix™ 2024, Nov. 18-21 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. Nominations will be accepted through Mon., Sept. 16th.

Nominees will be selected from a broad range of new products or technologies that have been commercially available at most two years prior to Hygienix 2024. Eligible categories include, but are not limited to: raw materials, roll goods, converting, packaging, active ingredients, binders, additives, and end-use products.

Three finalists will present their innovations to industry leaders at Hygienix Tues., Nov. 19th. The winner will be announced Thurs., Nov. 21st.

Last year’s Hygienix Innovation Award was presented to Sequel for their Sequel Spiral™ Tampon. The Sequel Spiral™ Tampon features a proprietary spiral design that is engineered to be more fluid mechanically efficient, meaning it is designed to absorb more evenly and not leak before it’s full. In August 2023, the Sequel Spiral™ Tampon received clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a medical device.
