ANDRITZ to supply a second high-speed spunlace line

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received a repeat order from Zhejiang Saintyear Textile Co., Ltd., based in China, to supply a second, complete neXline spunlace line for the production of premium-quality nonwoven roll goods. The line is scheduled for start-up during the third quarter of 2022.

No later than nine months after placing a first order for a complete high-speed spunlace line, Zhejiang Saintyear Textile has decided to rely on ANDRITZ once again by purchasing another complete line dedicated to the production of first-class wipes. The production capacity will be up to 2,800 kg/h for lightweight fabrics.

ANDRITZ will provide a full line with state-of-the-art equipment – from web forming to drying. The scope of supply includes the precise opening and blending machinery from Laroche – newly acquired by the ANDRITZ GROUP, two inline TT cards, a proven JetlaceEssentiel unit for hydroentanglement, and the efficient neXdry through-air dryer.

Cutting-edge technology in a compact footprint
The EFI Reggiani BLAZE printer is designed to give textile companies the opportunity to enter the digital textile printing market with a compact solution. The new, 1.8-metre wide printer offers an innovative, low-maintenance, continuous recirculation ink system equipped with a level sensor and degassing as well as a printhead crash protective system for longer printhead life and superior uptime.
 
Thanks to its cutting-edge printhead reliability and low maintenance costs for a competitive TCO (total cost of ownership), the BLAZE printer can produce up to 125 linear metres per hour with a printing resolution up to 600x1200 dots per inch (dpi). The printer – which delivers excellent productivity as one of the fastest digital inkjet solutions in its class – has eight 300-dpi dual channel printheads and can print in up to eight colours with full variable drop size.

Flexible fabric feed and handling for higher productivity
The EFI Reggiani BLAZE is equipped with a continuous and switchable belt washing unit to remove water and fabric hairs. An embedded device for adhesive application offers the possibility to use thermoplastic, resin and permanent adhesives.
 
The printer also includes other features for enhanced productivity and value, including a 400-mm roll unwinder, expandable shafts, an air gun and a pneumatic bar for standard fabrics.

Efficient software and electronics technology
The Reggiani BLAZE printer offers a friendly and intuitive user interface with real-time image processing and flexible queue management. The software also runs a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) job editor, as well as tools to accurately predict printing speed and ink usage.

EFI Reggiani TERRA Silver enhancement
EFI has also released an enhanced version of the EFI Reggiani TERRA Silver printer, a 1.8-metre wide printer operating with EFI Reggiani’s unique TERRA pigment ink with binder solution for high-quality, highly sustainable, direct-to-textile printing without steaming or washing.

Avgol names Tommi Bjornman as new CEO

Avgol, a subsidiary of global petrochemical producer Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL),  appointed Mr. Tommi Bjornman as its new CEO, replacing Mr. Shachar Rachim who takes up a broader role as CEO leading the Hygiene vertical of IVL’s Fibers business.

Mr. Bjornman’s new position with Avgol took effect on 1 June, 2021. The Hygiene business is one of 16 integrated verticals under Indorama Ventures, and comprises brands including Avgol, Auriga, FiberVisions, ES FiberVisions, Trevira and Wellman. The Hygiene vertical provides fibers and filaments used in hygiene, medical, personal protective equipment (PPE) and industrial disposable applications as well as durable textile applications used for automotive interiors, furnishings, wall and window coverings and related goods. Mr. Bjornman continues to report to Mr. Rachim who retains his role as an Avgol Board member.

Automation made smarter - Zünd launches Cradle Feeder 100

Having undergone further development, the new cradle feeder 100 now offers more functions and is even smarter. The cradle feeder 100 comes with an integrated cut-off system, intelligent controls, and smart roll-off features that take textile cutting to new levels of productivity and automation.

Just like its highly successful predecessor, which was introduced in 2017, the cradle feeder 100 is capable of advancing stretch fabrics from rolls completely without tension and resulting distortions. The integrated unwind-control system continuously monitors the rate in which the material is fed onto the cutter and manages that process with even greater precision than the previous model.

At the heart of the technological advances that come with new feeder is the optional integrated cut-off feature. Especially for users who frequently need to process short markers, this translates into significant time-savings in job preparation and setup. The cut-off function can be initiated manually by the user or set to occur automatically in the cutter software.

EURATEX calls for an effective EU Industrial strategy

On the occasion of releasing its 2021 Spring Report, EURATEX calls the European Institutions to implement a new Industrial Strategy which will effectively support the European textiles industry. EURATEX welcomes the fact that Textile and Clothing industry is recognised as one of the 14 essential ecosystems of the European economy, but we need to take effective measures to support these sectors, and take into consideration the global dimension.

On the occasion of releasing its 2021 Spring Report, EURATEX calls the European Institutions to implement a new Industrial Strategy which will effectively support the European textiles industry. EURATEX welcomes the fact that Textile and Clothing industry is recognised as one of the 14 essential ecosystems of the European economy, but we need to take effective measures to support these sectors, and take into consideration the global dimension.

Economic data for 2020 in EURATEX Spring Report show preoccupying trends. Figures reflect a dramatic contraction in demand and production: EU turnover contracted by -9.3% in textiles (which is in line with the general manufacturing average) and by -17.7% in clothing, compared with 2019. Furthermore, supply chain disruptions and substantial price increases of some raw materials are putting significant pressure on the T&C industries across Europe. The trade deficit for European textiles and clothing jumped from € -47 bln in 2019 to € -62 bln in 2020, an increase of more than 30%, which is almost entirely due to the import of Chinese face masks and related products. Fortunately, more recent figures from the 1st quarter of 2021 indicate some signs of recovery.

That figure illustrates very well today’s political discussions on the future of the European industry. Many European companies have made considerable efforts to adapt their production to the pandemic, but clearly this was not enough. Whether the production cost in Europe is too high or the EU should adapt its procurement rules, the industry needs have a coherent long-term plan to become more competitive and conquer new markets.

EURATEX General Assembly highlighted the critical role of the new EU Industrial Strategy. The inclusion of textiles and clothing in the fourteen ecosystems is a step in the right direction to consolidate the industrial base but we should look also at the global challenges. European companies should continue investing in innovation, design and quality, in combination with a structural move towards more sustainable textiles. At the same time, the EU should create an environment - both inside the Single Market and globally - where everybody plays by the same rules.

Wissenschaftler prognostizieren, dass der Permafrostboden bis zum Jahr 2100 komplett aufgetaut sein wird – die Folgen werden dann noch drastischer zu spüren sein als heute schon: komplett veränderte Ökosysteme, steigende Meeresspiegel und die Freisetzung von mehr als 950 Milliarden Tonnen Methangas. Epson und National Geographic machen gemeinsam auf diese Folgen des Klimawandels aufmerksam.

Im Rahmen dieser gemeinsamen Aktion thematisiert Epson, mit welchen Maßnahmen Unternehmen dazu beitragen können, umweltfreundlicher zu agieren. Der Umgang mit Energie ist dabei ein wesentlicher Faktor und sollte überdacht werden. Zahlreiche Technologien, die tagtäglich in Unternehmen eingesetzt werden, verbrauchen jedoch sehr viel Energie. Die Drucker von Epson wirken diesem Trend entgegen – sie benötigen aufgrund der Heat-Free Technologie weniger Energie und haben weniger Verschleißteile, sodass sie die Umwelt weniger belasten.

Sappi offers Transjet Tacky Industrial, a coated dye sublimation paper for digital transfer printing, specially developed for high-speed inkjet printing on highly elastic textiles. Also new is the uncoated dye sublimation paper Basejet, which has been developed for light designs for high-speed digital printing of fashion and home textiles.

Sublimation paper for the textile industry
The new dye sublimation paper offers many benefits for the textile industry, which frequently has to adapt to changing trends. As it is suitable for use on high-speed digital printers, significantly more designs can be printed in the same time than was previously possible on plotters. Thanks to a special heat-reactive coating, the paper adheres to highly stretchable content, while the reversible tack prevents ghosting and textile shrinkage. Transjet Tacky
Industrial has a high ink load capacity so the print can be better accentuated due to strong colour saturation. The design remains clearly visible when the fabric is stretched to its maximum, which is often the case with sportswear in particular.

Basejet specially for light designs
Sappi has also added the Basejet uncoated dye sublimation paper to its portfolio, an additional solution for the digital printing of fashion and home textiles in consistent print quality. The uncoated dye sublimation paper is intended in particular for light designs and cost-driven production processes.

Uniform labelling rules for some single-use plastic products
The Commission implementing regulation (EU) 2020/2151 applying to the Single-Use Plastics Directive stipulate uniform labelling requirements for some of the single-use plastic products on the packaging or the product itself starting on July 03, 2021. They encompass feminine hygiene products and wet wipes for personal and household care containing plastic.

Consumers want sustainable hygiene products
Even before the implementation of the Single-Use Plastics Directive, Lenzing already gives consumers clear guidance in their purchasing decisions. Products bearing the VEOCEL™ brand logo on their packaging are produced in line with stringent certification criteria. As a consequence, consumers can be assured that the products contain biodegradable, cellulosic materials.

A Marketagent survey carried out in German-speaking Europe in October 20192 concluded that nine out of ten consumers would immediately change their purchasing behavior for wipes if they found out that their current product contains plastic. This would seem to imply that new market dynamics will emerge once the labelling rules for single-use plastic products takes effect. According to a Smithers Report3, about 500,000 tons of petroleum-based fibers are used each year for the production of wipes.

Although affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, ITMA ASIA + CITME, which takes place mid-June in Shanghai, will see a convincing participation of VDMA member companies. 56 exhibitors from Germany will exhibit at this year’s edition of Asia’s major fair for textile machinery. Due to the pandemic and travel restrictions, this is much less than in 2018, when 99 exhibitors from Germany were present. The booked space of German companies has almost halved compared to 2018. Nevertheless, Germany is still the second largest exhibitor nation after China.

At a virtual VDMA press conference early June, these renowned VDMA member companies* presented their highlights for the Asian market:

Yoshiro Nagafusa ist neuer Epson Europa Präsident. Nagafusa unterstützt in seiner Funktion die Umsetzung der globalen Umweltvision 2050 des Unternehmens und den Businessplan „Epson 25“ im europäischen Raum. In diesen mittel- und langfristigen Planungen zielt Epson auf eine Reduzierung der Kohlenstoffemissionen gemäß dem 1,5℃-Szenario bis 2030 ab. Bis 2050 plant das Unternehmen besser als CO2-neutral zu sein und CO2-negativ zu wirtschaften sowie keine nicht-erneuerbaren Rohstoffe wie Öl und Metall zu verbrauchen.

Nagafusa war vor seiner Berufung zum Präsidenten von Epson Europe B.V. als Senior Vizepräsident bei Epson Europa verantwortlich für die Optimierung der Infrastruktur und der Vertriebsabläufe in der CISMEA-Region. Er hatte in seiner mehr als 30-jährigen Unternehmenszugehörigkeit eine Reihe von Führungspositionen bei Epson sowohl in Europa als auch weltweit inne. Ende der 90er Jahre (1997-1998) war Yoshiro Nagafusa bei der Epson Deutschland GmbH am früheren Standort in Düsseldorf im Einsatz.

Epson 25 Renewed und Umweltvision 2050
Über den mittelfristigen Plan „Epson 25 Renewed“ stellt Epson die Weichen für die Umsetzung der langfristigen Umweltvision 2050: Ziel des Plans ist, Nachhaltigkeit noch stärker in allen Unternehmensbereichen zu verankern und mithilfe von effizienten, kompakten und präzisen Technologien einen positiven Beitrag für die Gesellschaft zu leisten. Epson möchte Menschen, Branchen und Unternehmen mit intelligenten Lösungen ausstatten, die Personen, Dinge und Daten verbinden. Im Zentrum stehen dafür Initiativen in den Bereichen Nachhaltigkeit und Umweltschutz, digitale Transformation (DX) und gemeinsame Innovationen.

Das zentrale Ziel der Epson Umweltvision 2050 ist, bis zum Jahr 2050 eine negative CO2-Bilanz zu erreichen. Darüber hinaus sollen keine nicht-erneuerbaren Rohstoffe (wie Öl und Metall) mehr verbraucht werden. Wesentliche Maßnahmen, um diese Ziele zu erreichen, sind Dekarbonisierung, das Schließen von Ressourcenkreisläufen, die Entwicklung von innovativen Umwelttechnologien sowie die Verringerung von Umweltbelastungen durch den Einsatz der Produkte. Ein Kernelement ist die Nutzung von Ökostrom. Epson ist RE100 beigetreten, einem globalen Kollektiv von Unternehmen, die sich zu 100 Prozent erneuerbarem Strom verpflichtet haben. Alle Standorte des Konzerns weltweit werden bis 2023 ihren Strombedarf zu 100 Prozent aus erneuerbaren Energiequellen decken. Epson Deutschland nutzt bereits seit über 10 Jahren ausschließlich Ökostrom.

During its members meeting of June 2nd, 2021, the European Pultrusion Technology Association (EPTA) elected a new board. All EPTA board members who stood for re-election have been confirmed again. Dr. Elmar Witten, Secretary of the EPTA, is happy about the continuity in the line-up of the EPTA board. He also provided operational oversight for most of the Merck group’s joint ventures, including DuPont-Merck, Johnson and Johnson-Merck, Astra-Merck, and Schering-Plough-Merck.
