Riri Group presents its new collection SS 2023 at Première Vision Paris

All things style and sustainability: This year Première Vision Paris (08 – 10 February) will be once more the stage to show off the results. The new Spring/Summer 2023 line is inspired by three distinct eras and paths, but at the same time it conveys a total synergy and integration between the various divisions of the Group, coordinated and harmonised as well as united by their common interest in nature and sustainability.

Off-the-grid essentials between relaxation and style
Sparked from the contemporary need to balance happiness and security, while enriched by an aesthetic and provocative approach, this line embodies all the value and potential of a sustainabilityoriented communication for each and every product, as pieces feature the relevant information on the zip tape and on the button application support. This line presents softer colours that encompass a wide range of styles, including floral, summer satin and semi-transparency, accompanied by innovative yarns and sustainable materials, such as hemp, linen, silk, certified organic cotton, recycled nylon and bio-based polyester. The line also features stainless steel products, including mono-material buttons and zipper chains or the use of aluminium chains that stand out for their particular lightness.

OUTDOOR EXPRESSION
To always stand out
Inspired by nature and outdoor activities, in this section the focus is on attire codes that become the means through which everyone can express and enhance their look in every context, even when immersed in the surrounding environment. Coloured stripes and rubberized soft touch materials are the two essential concepts, combined with bright and flashy colours. The Storm Evo zip, reversed coated nylon zips (among which the one with the reflector catches the eye), and the recycled nylon buttons are back.

WISE EXCLUSIVITY
Smart and sustainable luxury
Each creation in this line is studied down to the smallest detail, to achieve luxury products that increase their value over time thanks to their sustainable process and long life cycle, achieved through multiple possibilities for use in different ways and areas. We find here the use of diamond, recreated in the laboratory with more sustainable techniques, but also zips with elegant and refined lines, the use of stainless steel and PVD and finally, the use of precious galvanic finishes on buttons, but also on chains and pullers. This path shows the important role collaboration plays between the divisions of the Riri Group, making it possible to create something unique and valuable.

“Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year 2022 Award” für Kohlenstofffasern aus Holz

Mit ihren Forschungsergebnissen zur Herstellung von Kohlenstofffasern aus Holz bewarben sich die DITF erfolgreich um den ersten Preis der „Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year“. Nominiert wurden die DITF im Rahmen der „International Conference on Cellulose Fibres 2022“, die vom 2. bis 3. Januar in Köln stattgefunden hat.

Zum zweiten Mal kürte das nova-Institut für Ökologie und Innovation im Rahmen der „International Conference on Cellulose Fibres 2022“ herausragende wissenschaftliche Forschung, die nachhaltige Lösungen für die Wertschöpfungskette von Zellulosefasern liefert. Die DITF Denkendorf präsentierten sich mit dem Thema „Kohlenstofffasern aus Holz“ inmitten eines aktuellen Forschungsfeldes, das ressourcenschonende Alternativen zu Fasern auf fossiler Basis liefert.

Das Kompetenzzentrum Biopolymerwerkstoffe der DITF Denkendorf erhielt bei der Nominierung den ersten Platz mit der Präsentation von Kohlenstofffasern (Carbonfasern), die in einem neuartigen und nachhaltigen Verfahren aus dem Rohstoff Holz gewonnen werden. Die HighPerCellCarbon®-Technologie beschreibt ein patentiertes Verfahren, das unter der Federführung von Dr. Frank Hermanutz weiterentwickelt worden ist: In Folge dessen können in einem nachhaltigen und besonders umweltschonenden Prozess Carbonfasern auf der Basis von Biopolymeren erzeugt werden.

Das HighPerCellCarbon®-Verfahren umfasst das Nassspinnen von Zellulosefasern unter Verwendung ionischer Flüssigkeiten (IL) als Direktlösungsmittel. Das Filamentspinnverfahren stellt den zentralen technischen Teil. Es erfolgt in einem umweltfreundlichen und geschlossenen System. Das Lösungsmittel (IL) wird dabei vollständig rezykliert. Die auf diesem Wege erzeugten Zellulosefasern werden in einem weiteren Entwicklungsschritt durch einen Niederdruck-Stabilisierungsprozess direkt in Carbonfasern umgewandelt, gefolgt von einem geeigneten Carbonisierungsprozess. Während des gesamten Verfahrensablaufs entstehen keine Abgase oder giftigen Nebenprodukte.

Neben der Rezyklierfähigkeit des verwendeten Lösungsmittels steht besonders die Verwendung des Rohstoffs Holz für Ressourcenschutz. Erdölbasierte Ausgangsstoffe, die üblicherweise in der industriellen Herstellung von Carbonfasern Verwendung finden, werden durch nachwachsende Biopolymere substituiert.

Iluna Group attends Première Vision with its "Smart Lace System"

From athleisure to fashion, via underwear, from sarongs to bodysuits, through evening and bridal gowns, up to the world of denim and high fashion, Iluna's lace continues to expand its applications, confirming its versatility, performance and beauty. Trends run and pass quickly, but Iluna lace remains a certainty in all its forms, variations and colors. Since 2017 Iluna has been using only sustainable and certified ROICA™ stretch yarns from the ROICA Eco-Smart™ family, while the percentage of sustainable references has risen from 3% in 2018 to 52% in 2021.
There are four main proposals presented by Iluna Group during Première Vision ( 8-10 February 2022) :

  • Continued investment in both the Green Label and Bioline, two collections totally dedicated to innovative and responsible aesthetics. Both include lace made with the responsible 6.6 polyamide yarn Amni Soul Eco® and the degradable stretch fiber ROICA™ V550, combined with natural vegetable dyes with OEKO TEX and GOTS certifications.
  • The union of a chenille yarn blended with FSC-certified viscose and Renycle® yarn, a product obtained by recycling nylon 6, a high-value material with excellent strength, dyeing, softness and versatility, gives life to surprising new Textronic. The embossed designs with 3D effect create a cloud effect that, combined with Lurex, gives unexpected glows.
  • GRS-certified tulles printed with GREENDROP technology, the new GOTS-certified digital pigment printing system, with lower energy consumption and low water waste, thanks to an internal closed-circuit process for water recycling.

Kelheim Fibres beim „Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year”-Award ausgezeichnet

Zum zweiten Mal in Folge darf sich der Spezialviskosefaserhersteller Kelheim Fibres über einen Platz auf dem Podest bei den „Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year“-Award freuen. Das Konzept für nachhaltige Menstruationsunterwäsche aus funktionalisierten Kelheimer Spezialfasern erreichte den dritten Platz. Damit geht Kelheim Fibres als innovativster Faserhersteller aus dem Wettbewerb hervor.

Projektleiterin New Business Development Natalie Wunder stellte im Rahmen der International Conference on Cellulose Fibres das zukunftsträchtige Konzept aus Kelheim vor: „Wir können unsere Erfahrung als langjähriger Lieferant für die Tamponindustrie nun einsetzen, um weitere nachhaltige Lösungen im Damenhygienebereich zu realisieren, konkret wiederverwendbare Menstruationsunterwäsche. Als Innovationsvorreiter tragen wir so dazu bei, das Thema Menstruation zu enttabuisieren. Wir geben den Frauen die Wahl zwischen verschiedenen umweltfreundlichen und gleichzeitig leistungsstarken Produkten – je nachdem, was zu ihrem Lebensstil passt.“

Lenzing prämiert Forschungsprojekte für faire und nachhaltige Mode

Die Lenzing Gruppe wird 2022 erstmals junge Forscher:innen mit dem Young Scientist Award für exzellente Forschungsarbeiten aus dem Faser- und Textilbereich auszeichnen. Der Faserkongress Dornbirn (GFC Dornbirn) bietet eine ideale Bühne für den neu geschaffenen Forschungswettbewerb. Bachelor- und Masterstudierende können ihre wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten in den Kategorien Fashion und Kreislaufwirtschaft, Textilrecycling sowie innovative Nutzung biobasierter Fasern einreichen und sich einer Jury aus namhaften Expert:innen der Industrie stellen.

Die Jury besteht aus Karla Magruder (Founder Acceleration Circularity), Friedericke von Wedel-Parlow (Beneficial Design Institute Berlin) und Dieter Eichinger (Head of Standardization and Innovation, Secretary-General of BISFA). Das Gewinnerprojekt wird mit einem Preisgeld von EUR 5.000 prämiert. Ziel ist es, Studierende zu fördern und eine Plattform zur Vernetzung mit der Textil- und Faserindustrie zu schaffen.

Huntsman Textile Effects Launches Water Conservation Project in India

Huntsman Textile Effects, the global leader in innovative and environmentally sustainable dyes, chemicals, and digital inks, has successfully implemented a water conservation process to improve water efficiency and reduce net water usage at its Baroda facility, which is located in the western region of India. The initiative undertaken at the plant aims to save around 76 kilo liters of Reverse Osmosis water per day by modifying the phase sequence in the pH measurement program.

Water is used extensively throughout textile processing operations. The amount of water used varies widely in the industry, depending on specific processes operated at the plant, equipment used, and policies concerning water use. This conservation project at the Baroda Plant will have a potential savings of Rs 10 crore or USD146,000 a year for the organization.

Speaking on the development, Mark Devaney, Vice President Manufacturing and Operations Excellence, Huntsman Textile Effects said, “At Huntsman, we recognize the important role we play in creating a more sustainable future and are committed to the well-being of the communities where we operate, and the protection of the environment. We are continually looking for ways to improve the environmental footprint of our manufacturing sites and have been implementing numerous projects in recent years to reduce our water usage.”

“The team has done a detailed assessment of the pH analysis process in dye vessels, mapping the existing water usage and potential conservation method. After a brief study and several brainstorming sessions, we were able to adjust the phase sequence, resulting in conservation of Reverse Osmosis water by almost 76 kilo liters of water per day.” said Kavishwar Kalambe, Site Director, Huntsman Textile Effects. “This project directly contributes to Huntsman’s Horizon 2025 goals to reduce net water usage at facilities in water-stressed regions,” he added.

With our specialized processing technique, cellulose fiber from stems and leaves are purified into soft fiber bundles ready to spin into yarns. The Agraloop™ processes leftovers from various food and medicine crops including, oilseed hemp/flax, CBD hemp, banana, and pineapple.
  • Texloop™ Recycling produces high-quality GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified recycled cotton fibre called RCOT™. Texloop™ preserves fiber quality for the next generation of recycled materials and blends with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton and Canopy approved man-made cellulosics to create near virgin quality yarns for knitting and weaving.
  • Orbital™ hybrid yarns create high-quality materials with high-performance, using organic and recycled fiber inputs. In den Alpen schneit es Plastik - Neue Empa Studie zu Nanoplastik in der Umwelt

In einer neuen Studie untersucht Empa-Forscher Dominik Brunner, zusammen mit Kollegen und Kolleginnen der Universität Utrecht sowie der österreichischen Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik, wie viel Plastik aus der Atmosphäre auf uns runterrieselt. Laut der Studie verbreitet sich Nanoplastik über die Luft teilweise über 2000 Kilometer weit. In der Schweiz landen – den Zahlen der Messung aus Österreich entsprechend - jährlich etwa 43 Trillionen feinster Plastikteilchen. Wie viel es genau sind, darüber ist sich die Forschung noch uneins. Aber gemäss Schätzungen aus der Studie könnten es bis zu 3000 Tonnen Nanoplastik sein, mit denen die Schweiz jährlich von den abgelegenen Alpen bis ins urbane Unterland überzogen wird. Diese Schätzungen sind im Verhältnis zu anderen Studien sehr hoch, und es bedarf weiterer Forschung zur Überprüfung dieser Werte.

Untersucht haben die Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen eine kleine Fläche auf 3106 Metern Höhe an der Spitze des Berges Hoher Sonnenblick im Nationalpark Hohe Tauern in Österreich.
Jeden Tag, und bei jeder Wetterlage, haben Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen um 8 Uhr früh rund um eine Markierung einen Teil der obersten Schneeschicht abgetragen und sorgfältig aufbewahrt. Die Verschmutzung der genommenen Proben durch Nanoplastik in der Luft oder auf den Kleidern der Wissenschaftler war dabei eine besondere Herausforderung. Im Labor mussten die Forscherinnen und Forscher teilweise regungslos verharren, wenn ein Kollege mit einer offenen Probe hantierte.

Der Ursprung der winzigen Teilchen ist mit Hilfe von Europäischen Wind- und Wetterdaten nachverfolgt worden. Dabei konnte nachgewiesen werden, dass der grösste Ausstoss an Nanoplastik in die Luft in dicht besiedelten, urbanen Gebieten passiert. Etwa 30 Prozent der gemessenen Nanoplastik-Teilchen auf dem Berggipfel stammen aus einem Radius von 200 Kilometer, vorwiegend aus Städten. Aber auch Plastik aus den Weltmeeren gelangt offenbar über die Gischt der Wellen in die Luft. Rund 10 Prozent der in der Studie gemessenen Teilchen wurden von Wind und Wetter über 2000 Kilometer auf den Berg geweht – teilweise vom Atlantik aus.

Schätzungsweise über 8300 Millionen Tonnen Plastik sind bis anhin weltweit produziert worden, etwa 60 Prozent davon ist unterdessen Abfall. Dieser Müll erodiert durch Witterungseffekte und mechanischen Abrieb von Makroteilchen über Mikroteilchen bis hin zu Nanoteilchen. Doch ist weggeworfenes Plastik bei weitem nicht die einzige Quelle. Durch den alltäglichen Gebrauch von Plastik-Produkten wie Verpackungen und Kleidung wird Nanoplastik freigesetzt. Partikel in diesem Grössenbereich sind so leicht, dass ihre Bewegung in der Luft am ehesten mit Gas verglichen werden kann.

Neben Plastik finden sich noch allerlei andere Kleinstteilchen. Vom Saharasand bis zum Bremsbelag schwirrt die Welt als Abrieb durch die Luft. Es ist bis jetzt unklar, ob diese Art von Luftverschmutzung potentiell eine gesundheitliche Bedrohung für den Menschen bedeutet. Nanopartikel landen im Gegensatz zu Mikropartikel nicht nur im Magen. Sie werden über die Atmung tief in die Lungenflügel gesogen, wo sie dank ihrer Grösse eventuell die Zell-Blut-Barriere überwinden, und so in den menschlichen Blutkreislauf dringen könnten.

Siligen® EH1 is suitable for both woven and knitted articles. It can be applied by padding process, as well as by exhaust process as it shows a very good shear stability and a low foaming profile. It can be used on white articles and those treated with optical brighteners, as it doesn’t cause thermomigration nor phenolic yellowing.

Radici Yarn certified to ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems

Over 400 employees work hard every day to improve the environmental performance of Radici Yarn’s site. Through teamwork and continuous improvement in energy efficiency, Radici Yarn has obtained ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems certification, which attests to the organization’s commitment to contain and progressively reduce energy consumption.

Radici Yarn, one of the companies in the RadiciGroup Advanced Textile Solutions Business Area, is engaged in the production and sale of polyamide 6 polymer, PA6 and PA66 continuous filament and staple yarn, and other synthetic fibres, including products made of recycled or bio-based materials.

All the processes - polymerization and spinning (Villa d'Ogna plant), as well as warping and draw-warping (Ardesio plant) - are run under constant monitoring with the goal of achieving maximum energy efficiency and lower consumption. Both sites are powered by two hydroelectric power plants owned by Geogreen, a RadiciGroup partner and energy supplier. The share of energy consumption from renewable sources and reduced environmental impact (natural gas) sources  is constantly increasing.

One of the first results recorded in 2021 was a 30% reduction in water consumption. Thus, ISO 50001 certification seemed like the next logical step to take in formalizing a long-term approach to energy.”

The ISO 50001 certification, which is voluntary and valid for a period of three years, was added to the ISO 14001 Environmental and ISO 9001 Quality Management system certifications previously achieved by Radici Yarn.

Mit ihrer Frankfurt City Edition 2022 präsentierte sich die Neonyt-Konferenz Fashionsustain am 19. Januar 2022 in hybrider Form: Limitiert und unter strengen Hygienebedingungen live vor Ort oder im Livestream gab es Impuls-Insights, Panel Discussions und Fashion Deep-Dives zum Status Quo der Textil- und Modebranche. Mit dabei waren unter anderem der Grüne Knopf, Fond of, der German Design Council und Tchibo.

Unter dem Motto Change the set-up beleuchtete die Fashionsustain, das internationale und multidisziplinäre Konferenzformat der Neonyt, am 19. Januar 2022 im Rahmen der Frankfurt Fashion Week, wie die Textil- und Modebranche den laufenden Transformationsprozess bewältigen und sich für zuküftige Herausforderungen wappnen kann. Die Themen Konsumentenverhalten, unternehmerische Sorgfaltspflichten und Nachhaltigkeit am Point-of-Sale standen dabei im Fokus.

Change the Mindset – Änderung des Konsumverhaltens
Den Auftakt zur hybriden City Edition im Frankfurter Danzig am Platz machte Neurowissenschaftlerin Prof. Dr. Maren Urner mit einem Impulsvortrag zum Thema Change the Mindset. Im Zentrum stand dabei die sogenannte Attitude-Behaviour-Gap und wie wir diese überwinden können. Prof. Dr. Urner riet zu einem positiven Mindset und zitierte dabei den US-amerikanischen Psychotherapeuten Steve de Shazer: „Über Porbleme zu reden, kreiert Probleme, über Lösungen zu reden, kreiert Lösungen.“

Im anschließenden Deepdive reflektierte sie in einer Runde mit Karin Ziegler von Blutsgeschwister und Lutz Dietzold vom German Design Council, warum Menschen anders handeln als sie beabsichtigen und wie sich unsere eigene Haltung, und damit die Haltung der ganzen Branche, in Zukunft noch stärker in unserem Verhalten widerspiegeln kann. Zu der Frage, ob echte Veränderung vom Individuum oder dem System ausgehen sollte, sagte Prof. Dr. Urner: „Es braucht beides: Eine individuelle und eine systemische Veränderung. Aber die systemische Veränderung kann nur gelingen, wenn wir individuell anfangen. Denn das System sind wir Menschen.“

Change Responsibilities – Lieferketten der Zukunft
„Viele Unternehmen berichten, dass Maßnahmen wie die UN-Leitprinzipien ihnen helfen, sich nachhaltig zu positionieren, zum Beispiel in den Bereichen Risikoanalyse und Monitoring.“ sagte Christine Moser-Priewich vom Grünen Knopf in dessen Panel Discussion zu unternehmerischen Sorgfaltspflichten mit Axel Schröder der Tchibo GmbH und Hannes Weber von Fond of. Axel Schröder ergänzte: „Der Grüne Knopf war für uns eine gute Lernreise in Vorbereitung auf die anstehenden Lieferkettengesetze.“

Change the System – Revolution des Handels
„Konsumentinnen und Konsumenten mit nachhaltigen Absichten haben eine schwere Zeit“, sagte Christian Salewski vom Research-Start-up Flip. „Sie können oft nicht zwischen grünen Marketing-Kampagnen und ehrlichen Absichten unterscheiden.“ In seinem Insight-Talk illustrierte er, wie Flip Konsument*innen im undurchsichtigen Nachhaltigkeitsmarkt unterstützen und für mehr Transparenz sorgen möchte. Als Beispiel gab er Einblicke hinter die Kulissen der Sneakerjagd, eines der in der Branche meistdiskutierten Videos des vergangenen Jahres, in dem Flip gemeinsam mit NDR, Die Zeit und prominenten Persönlichkeiten aufdeckte, dass Sneaker nicht immer so recycelt werden wie von den dahinter stehenden Brands angegeben. „Aus der Politik und von Verbaucherschützerinnen und -schützern haben wir das Feedback erhalten, dass unsere Recherche ein wichtiger Impuls war, um wieder Schwung in das Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz zu bringen.“

Abgerundet wurde die Fashionsustain City Edition mit einer Panel Discussion zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit am Point-of-Sale. Tanja Kliewe-Meyer von Like a Bird, Marco Schütte der EK Service Group und Frederik Gottschling vom Hessischen Handelsverband diskutierten, wie der Handel als Wissensvermittler dazu beitragen kann, Verbraucher*innen zu sensibilisieren und was das für die Belebung von Innenstädten bedeuten kann. „Wichtig ist es,“ so Tanja Kliewe-Meyer, „Erfahrungswelten zu schaffen, um Nachhaltigkeit in die Städte zu bringen. Die Zeiten der Monoläden durch die jedes Stadtzentrum gleich aussieht, sind vorbei.“

Change the perspective – on- und offline
Teilnehmer*innen konnten das internationale Konferenzformat der Neonyt im Rahmen der Frankfurt Fashion Week live vor Ort und digital verfolgen. In Frankfurt dabei waren unter anderem Vertreter*innen von Condé Nast Germany, Deutscher Fachverlag und FAZ, Hohenstein und Rat für Formgebung. Den Livestream verfolgten neben internationalen Modeinstituten wie dem German Design Council auch Unternehmensvertreter*innen von Breuniger, C&A, Closed, Gerry Weber, Givenchy/LVMH, Hallhuber, Hessnatur und Kastener & Öhler sowie die Redaktionen von Fashion United, Luxiders, RTL, Spiegel Online und TextilWirtschaft.

Indorama Ventures’ Group CEO recognized among Top 40 Power Players

The Group CEO of Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL) has been ranked 12th in the Top 40 Power Players 2022 list announced by the leading chemical market information provider, Independent Commodity Intelligence Services (ICIS). The ranking consists of global CEOs and senior executives who are making the greatest positive impact on their companies and the chemical industry.

This recognition recognises Aloke Lohia’s distinction in leading IVL towards a more sustainable  and purposeful future. He is spearheading IVL’s efforts to meet its sustainability objectives, including strengthening its circular economy and PET recycling initiatives. The company pledged $1.5 billion in investments to meet green targets, including a commitment to increase its global PET recycling capacity to 750,000 tons per year by 2025.

IVL also agreed to acquire Brazil-based Oxiteno, a leading integrated surfactant producer.
