Flos and B&B Italia partner with “Casa Italia Paris 2024”

Flos and B&B Italia, furniture brands of Made in Italy design, take part in the Casa Italia Paris 2024 project, the hospitality house that will host the athletes and guests during the XXXIII Olympic Games, to be held in the French capital from 26 July to 11 August 2024.

Along with other design brands and contemporary Italian artists, the two companies participate for the first time at Casa Italia Paris 2024 showcasing their most iconic creations, both classic and contemporary, in the venue’s indoor and outdoor spaces, taking guests on a spectacular and evocative journey that epitomizes Italian elegance and beauty.

As Official Partner of Casa Italia Paris 2024, B&B Italia is furnishing the living, lounge and outdoor areas with some of its most recognisable products that combine unique design, quality, comfort and function as well as sustainability, an increasingly crucial element intrinsic to furniture designed to last over time. The UP Series by Gaetano Pesce, the Camaleonda sofa and Le Bambole seating by Mario Bellini, the Planck tables by Piero Lissoni, and the Allure O’ table and Flair O’ chairs by Monica Armani will furnish Casa Italia, highlighting a dialogue with the context through the choice of distinctive shapes, colours and materials.

The ongoing dialogue created by the brand’s products continues through to the outdoor lounge areas, where Casa Italia’s green spaces are dotted with products from the B&B Italia Outdoor collection, the brand’s outdoor furniture line launched in 2007. The Ribes sofas by Antonio Citterio, the Crinoline chairs by Patricia Urquiola and the Borea tables by Piero Lissoni will welcome athletes and guests creating stylish aesthetic synergies with the Le Pré Catelan gardens.

Flos has worked at the lighting project for Casa Italia Paris 2024 as Official Supplier, with the aim of making light a precious element for highlighting the works of art and the objects that enrich the setup of the Italian hospitality house, so that the exhibition and its narrative itinerary can be enjoyed both during daytime and nighttime hours. Light is used to shape the space in such a way as to create visual hierarchies among the superb items on display, without forgetting the ambient lighting needed for the celebratory events that will take place in the venue. The Flos lighting display includes some of the brand’s most recognisable suspension creations, such as cocoon models Taraxacum and Viscontea by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Zeppelin by Marcel Wanders. These interact with more recent and timeless collections, such as Glo-Ball by Jasper Morrison, Arrangements by Michael Anastassiades, IC and Captain Flint floor lamps, also by Anastassiades, and Bellhop Floor by Barber Osgerby.

For the exterior green spaces, Flos has chosen stylish outdoor floor lamps that create a harmonious dialogue with the surrounding architecture. These include Captain Flint Outdoor and IC Outdoor, designed by Michael Anastassiades, featuring bases in precious materials such as Tuscan imperial travertine and volcanic stone from the slopes of Mount Etna. Finally, Flos Architectural, the brand’s professional lighting division for large-scale projects, has equipped Casa Italia with innovative tech solutions that include The Tracking Magnet, an ingenious patented system with magnetic fastening LED lights in spot or linear versions for functional, efficient lighting that is also comfortable and non-invasive.

AkzoNobel: Expansion of powder coatings plant in Italy

A major capacity expansion has been completed at AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings site in Como, Italy, which will help secure supply to customers across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Four new manufacturing lines are now operational following the €21 million project – two of them dedicated to automotive primers and two to architectural coatings. New bonding equipment lines have also been added, ensuring that the products meet and exceed industry standards.

The extra capacity in Como has been installed in a renovated building where powder coatings were originally made – a sustainable reuse of an existing part of the site, which was established in 1992. The new lines also use recycled energy and are focused on meeting the highest standards in sustainable production, supporting the company’s ambition to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

AkzoNobel’s Como site is the company’s largest plant for producing powder coatings. It supplies products for market segments, such as home appliances, architecture, automotive, furniture and more.

Auftakt für Heimtextil Materialbibliothek: Interior.Architecture.Hospitality LIBRARY

Die Produktauswahl für die Interior.Architecture.Hospitality LIBRARY steht fest. Am 30. November 2022 hat die Jury über die in der LIBRARY ausgestellten Funktionstextilien auf der Heimtextil 2023 entschieden. 85 Aussteller wurden aus einer hohen Anzahl an Einreichungen ausgewählt, um ihre Produkte in der aufwendig inszenierten LIBRARY in Halle 4.0 zu präsentieren. Die Textilien werden mit dem Namen des Herstellers und der Standnummer gekennzeichnet.

Die neue Ausgabe der Materialbibliothek für Funktionstextilien stellt 2023 die Eigenschaften „schwer entflammbar“, „schalldämmend“, „lichtbeständig“, „antimikrobiell“ und „wasserabweisend“ in den Fokus. Neben der Funktionalität wurden ebenfalls das Design und die Innovation bei der Auswahl berücksichtigt. Mit Gerhard Sperling, Verband der Deutschen Heimtextilien-Industrie e.V., Jasmin Grego, GREGO Jasmin Grego & Stephanie Kühnle Architektur GmbH und Felix Diener, Marburger Tapetenfabrik, werden die Expertise eines Textilingenieurs und zweier Anwendungsexpert*innen in der Jury vereint.

Jasmin Grego erklärt: „Vergleichsmöglichkeiten zwischen Produkten zu kreieren, sehe ich als eine klare Stärke der LIBRARY-Sonderschau an. Kuratierte Einreichungen nebeneinander inszeniert zu erleben, zeigt die Bandbreite haptisch-materieller Ausgestaltungen bei gleicher Funktionalität. So wird auch Unerwartetes greifbar.“
„Entscheidend sind feststehende DIN-, EN- bzw. ISO-Normen – diese Klassifikationen bieten (Innen-)Architekt*innen technisch-funktionale Orientierung mit Tiefe: Normen sagen nicht nur aus, ob Textilien beispielsweise wasserabweisend oder lichtbeständig sind, sondern vor allem wie wasserresistent oder wie lichtecht die Stoffbeschaffenheit im
Vergleich genau ist“, fasst Gerhard Sperling zusammen.

Besucher*innen können die LIBRARY auf der Heimtextil vom 10. bis 13. Januar in Halle 4.0 live erleben. In der Mitte von Ausstellern von Decorative & Furniture Fabrics und Fibres & Yarns bietet sie für das Publikum aus dem Objektbereich einen optimalen Anlaufpunkt. Einen tieferen Einblick und Austausch ermöglichen die von den Kuratoren an den ersten beiden Messetagen angebotenen LIBRARY TOURS.

Online steht die LIBRARY das ganze Jahr unter www.textile-library.com zur Verfügung und ermöglicht einen gefilterten Überblick über die kuratierten Produkte mit unterschiedlichen Funktions- und Anwendungsprofilen.

Kornit Digital, Cozmo and Raw-Edges present sofa with custom designs

Kornit Digital is collaborating with furniture start-up Cozmo and London design studio Raw-Edges to showcase the unlimited creativity made possible by digitally produced custom sofa jacket designs at the London Design Festival, September 17th -25th. Dubbed “Cheek Prints,” the collection was created sustainably, quickly, and on-demand with Kornit’s digital fashion and textile production solutions. Each unique cover features visually designs intended to transform plain, standard sofas into custom creations with an entirely fresh look and feel. The collection was designed by Raw-Edges at their London design studio.

Finavia: Antibacterial Coating Solution at Airport

Airport company Finavia will start using Finnish technology company Nanoksi Finland Oy’s coating solution at Helsinki Airport. The coating can be used to remove viruses and bacteria from airport surfaces and furniture.

“We are continuously keeping track of new methods and products to ensure a high level of hygiene at the airport. This nanotechnology-based coating, which is sprayed on contact surfaces and furniture, makes it easier to keep surfaces clean. The coating destroys pathogens with the help of light and air,” says Sami Kiiskinen, Finavia’s Vice President, Airport Development for Helsinki Airport.

The coating is sprayed on targets such as check-in counters, machines, departure gates and toilet facilities. The coating lasts for a long time, even though the furniture is wiped several times a day.

The effectiveness of the Fotonit® photocatalytic coating developed by Finnish nanotechnology company Nanoksi Finland Oy has been confirmed by research at the University of Tampere. Photocatalysis can destroy 98% of pathogens such as influenza viruses in two hours. The coating has been awarded the Key Flag Symbol as an indication of its high domestic content.

ANDRITZ erhält Auftrag von Pureko über eine Nadelvlieslinie

Der internationale Technologiekonzern ANDRITZ erhielt von Pureko Sp. Z o.o. den Auftrag zur Lieferung einer Nadelvlieslinie für das Werk in Myszków, Polen. Die Linie wird Recyclingfasern aus Altkleidern für die Produktion von technischen Filzen verarbeiten, die für die Automobilindustrie sowie für Geotextilien vorgesehen sind. Die Endprodukte werden ein Flächengewicht von 300–500 gsm aufweisen, die Produktionskapazität wird bis zu 750 kg/h betragen. Die Montage und Inbetriebnahme sind für das dritte Quartal 2021 geplant.

Der ANDRITZ-Lieferumfang enthält eine komplette neXline needlepunch eXcelle-Linie – von der Vliesbildung bis zur Vernadelung – sowie das Engineering und die erst kürzlich vorgestellte ANDRITZ- Scan-Messstation.

Dies ist die zweite an Pureko gelieferte ANDRITZ-Linie und bestätigt damit die starke Partnerschaft zwischen beiden Unternehmen. Vor drei Jahren investierte Pureko in eine neue, moderne Anlage von ANDRITZ Asselin-Thibeau für die Produktion von flauschigen Vliesstoffen, die in der Möbel-, Textilien- und Bekleidungsindustrie verwendet werden. Durch die neue Linie wird Pureko sein kontinuierliches Wachstum fortsetzen können.
