Winter landscapes and polar tones have inspired the colours of this new collection: nuances of grey, azure and white remind us of the typical tones of ice; also dominant is the presence of blue, intense and rich in contrast thanks to the attractive green inserts; black interventions are then harmoniously inserted as part of the colour palette, creating an appealing interplay of colour references. Tapes, pullers and chains provide new pleasant tactile sensations and unexpected visual inputs, through the search for always new processing methods the iceberg effect reproduced with a laser system, the texture reminding us of snake skin, from marble effect to horn processing, and freehand diamond turning, as well as the three-dimensional drop varnishing and the stylish mother-of-pearl effect.

The guiding thread for the new “Winterstorm” collection is the use of nuanced colours and ‘ice-like’ effects, reminding us of winter landscape and climates, as in the new Decor Cristal zip with transparent chain or in the Aquatyre zip, available also in a new luminescent version. Among the new creations, the Metal 3H zip stands out: the smallest and most innovative in the collection, lightweight and with a streamlined design. The provocations for this fall-winter have reached extreme levels, with a zip made of synthetic fur and incorporated buttons, whose cover can be removed and then reapplied, to face polar temperatures with a touch of glamour. Alongside the most fashionable novelties, the research by the Riri group does not cease to surprise in the outdoor sector also as regards buttons. This is confirmed by Rislide, the snap closure with a nylon body and Zama button. The innovative b-lock pressure button – with high lateral hold – has been restyled with a silicone shaped head in three colours. As part of a collection characterised by style and performance elements, it is definitely worth mentioning Zero, also in its invisible version: this button – thanks to its elegant design, combines practicality and style without compromising on performance.

Expansion of pulp production at the Lenzing site successfully completed

Lenzing AG, producer of pulp and fibers from the renewable raw material wood, has concluded its expansion and modernization drive at the pulp plant at the Lenzing site. The company invested EUR 60 mn for this purpose, increasing production capacities for dissolving pulp extracted from beech wood from 300,000 to 320,000 tons per year. The coming on stream of the additional pulp capacities over the past weeks strengthens Lenzing’s self-supply of pulp in accordance with the sCore TEN corporate strategy.

“The successful expansion brings us closer to achieving our strategic objective of increasing our self-supply of pulp to a level of 75 percent, thus making us even more resistant to price fluctuations in sourcing pulp”, says Stefan Doboczky, CEO of the Lenzing Group. “We are also pleased that this project enables us to make a further significant contribution towards strengthening the Lenzing site as well as the regional economy”, Mr. Doboczky adds.

The expansion drive was completed in less than two years. In addition to 100 Lenzing Group employees, numerous external partner companies from Upper Austria and neighboring regions were involved in implementing the project. About 40,000 working days were needed by external companies in order to install the delivered machinery on site. The Lenzing Group secured additional jobs due to the pre-production work required in the factories of these suppliers.

In line with the corporate strategy of the Lenzing Group, the self-supply of dissolving wood pulp will be successively increased in the coming years to 75 percent of consumption. At present, Lenzing’s own pulp plants in Lenzing and Paskov (Czech Republic) cover 60 percent of the Group’s pulp requirements. The Lenzing site primarily makes use of beech wood which is not suitable for producing furniture, whereas it mainly relies on spruce wood in the Czech Republic. The remaining dissolving wood pulp is sourced from a variety of hardwoods and softwoods from international partners. In this case, in the spirit of sustainability, Lenzing applies procurement rules which are just as strict as when it purchases wood for its own pulp production.

Fully electronic, it produces up to 30 kilograms of fabric per hour, which demonstrably makes it the most productive  machine of its kind in the world. It also scores points for ease of use and the variety of patterns it can produce. The highly productive mattress machine was a perfect match for this year’s Mayer & Cie. ITMA focus on sport. To be at the top in the long term you need to strike a balance between peaks of physical performance and phases of regenerative recovery.

Covestro: Anziehen mit CO2

 Anziehen mit CO2: In zwei Forschungsprojekten ist es gelungen, elastische Textilfasern auf CO2-Basis herzustellen und so Erdöl als Rohstoff teilweise zu ersetzen. Covestro und seine Partner, vor allem das Institut für Textiltechnik der RWTH Aachen University sowie verschiedene Textilhersteller, entwickeln die Produktion in den Industriemaßstab und wollen die neuartigen Fasern zur Marktreife bringen. Sie können beispielsweise für Strümpfe und medizinische Textilien eingesetzt werden und so herkömmliche Elastikfasern auf Erdölbasis ablösen.

Die elastischen Fasern werden mit einer chemischen Komponente hergestellt, die zu einem Teil aus CO2 statt aus Erdöl besteht. Dieses Vorprodukt namens cardyon® wird bereits für Weichschaum in Matratzen und Unterbelägen für Sportböden genutzt. Nun wird der Bereich Textilindustrie erschlossen.

Covestro und seine Partner, vor allem das Institut für Textiltechnik der RWTH Aachen University sowie verschiedene Textilhersteller, entwickeln die Produktion in den Industriemaßstab und wollen die neuartigen Fasern zur Marktreife bringen. Sie können beispielsweise für Strümpfe und medizinische Textilien eingesetzt werden und so herkömmliche Elastikfasern auf Erdölbasis ablösen.

Die elastischen Fasern werden mit einer chemischen Komponente hergestellt, die zu einem Teil aus CO2 statt aus Erdöl besteht. Dieses Vorprodukt namens cardyon® wird bereits für Weichschaum in Matratzen und Unterbelägen für Sportböden genutzt. Nun wird der Bereich Textilindustrie erschlossen.

New and improved recyclate for high-end applications

Borcycle™ MF1981SY is the first of several upcoming launches of rPO solutions made under the umbrella of the Borcycle technology. Borcycle™ MF1981SY will be available to Borealis customers in Europe. The compound is an exciting addition to the rPO portfolio because it is a 10% talc-filled compound that contains over 80% recycled material. It offers an ideal balance between stiffness and impact. The compound is especially suited for use in visible black parts, for example in small appliances.

Like its relatives in the mtm plastics family of recyclate materials, Borcycle™ MF1981SY is a truly sustainable offering. Recyclates from mtm save approximately 30% of CO2 emissions compared to virgin materials.

A number of significant improvements have been made to existing recyclate grades in the Purpolen portfolio.

The sustainable wear2wear concept is synonymous with high-quality, responsible clothing. In European operations, textile fibres from used garments are used to produce new functional fabrics. Depending upon the area of intended use, they also meet strict waterproofing, breathability, protection and comfort requirements. To ensure that the raw material cycle comes full circle, these textiles can be recycled again when they reach the end of their service life. As a result, there is no waste, and they go on to produce new garments. As the wear-2-wear partner companies guarantee that – from the quality of the raw materials to the guaranteed recycling end process – these are 100 percent recyclable, functional fabrics made of recycled textile fibres. Water- and dirt-repelling technologies based on renewable raw materials, along with the most advanced membrane technology, will ensure that the textiles are manufactured and impregnated entirely without the use of PFC in the future too.

Five partner companies  
The five European partner companies in the wear2wear cooperation cover the entire recycling loop. Heinrich Glaeser Nachfolger GmbH is a German fibre and yarn producer and the “recycler” in the loop. Märkischen Faser GmbH (D) is the “upcycler” and fibre manufacturer. Carl Weiske GmbH & Co. KG (D) develops the polymers, fibres, yarns, chemical additives and textile systems, and TWD Fibres GmbH (D), a fully-integrated filament yarn producer, covers the entire range of polyester and polyamide 6.6 continuous filament yarns. Schoeller Textil AG, the innovative Swiss company, is responsible for textile production and manufactures sustainable high-tech fabrics with maximum clothing comfort. The matching climate-neutral and similarly 100 percent recyclable PTFE and PFC-free membrane, as well as recycled outer materials and linings, are supplied by Sympatex Technologies (D), the ecological alternative among the textile function specialists. DutchSpirit is a Dutch company which has been dedicated to environment-friendly clothing since 2010. Its mission is to significantly increase the awareness for sustainable clothing and offer recyclable clothing in the workwear segment. DutchSpirit is the initiator for the development of the Inspire products from Schoeller Textil and provided the inspiration for the wear2wear concept. Covestro: Textilbeschichtung von Möbeln

Die INSQIN® Technologie von Covestro steht für wässrige Textilbeschichtung ohne den Einsatz von Lösemitteln. Dass sie den Weg in neue Konsumwelten eröffnen kann, zeigt Covestro vom 14. bis 17. Mai auf der Messe Techtextil am Beispiel eines Kühlschranks, der mit einer wässrigen Polyurethan-Textilbeschichtung überzogen ist.

„Er ist ein ungewöhnlicher Blickfang, der zeigt, was mit INSQIN® möglich ist, und der die Industrie zu neuen Konzepten inspirieren soll“, sagt Thomas Michaelis, bei Covestro Leiter Textilbeschichtung für die Region Europa, Naher Osten, Afrika und Lateinamerika (EMEA/LA).

Zugleich passt der textilbeschichtete Kühlschrank perfekt zu einem aktuellen Trend: Die Grenze zwischen Küche und Wohnzimmer verschwimmt zunehmend, und es entstehen integrierte Wohnräume. „Entsprechend fragen Verbraucher verstärkt nach individuellen, eleganten und wertig anmutenden Haushaltsgeräten und Möbeln“, sagt Thomas Michaelis.
