Parkdale Mills subsidiary U.S. Cotton has joined in an effort with the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the Gates Foundation, UnitedHealth Group and Quantigen to ramp up production of spun synthetic swabs to help the country’s frontline health care workers administering tests for the COVID-19 disease.

U.S. Cotton has developed a fully synthetic, polyester-based Q-tip-type swab that can be used in coronavirus diagnostic testing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration just announced that these synthetic swabs – with a design similar to Q-tips – could be used to test patients for the coronavirus.
U.S. Cotton, based in Cleveland, Ohio, plans to leverage its large-scale manufacturing capacity to rapidly increase production of large quantities of the polyester swabs, which are in short supply for testing kits across the country.

This is the second major COVID-19 relief project that Parkdale has helped. Earlier Parkdale constructed a supply chain that includes Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, and many other U.S. companies in the production of PPE masks needed by frontline medical staff treating the virus.

In relation to participation in the Annual General Meeting on April 16, 2020, the Board of Directors of Rieter Holding Ltd. arranged exclusively written or electronic voting and the granting of power of attorney to the independent proxy. In taking this approach, the Board of Directors relied on Article 6a, lit. b of Ordinance 2 of the Swiss Federal Council (Measures to Combat the Coronavirus of March 16, 2020). Physical participation by the shareholders was therefore not possible. The Annual General Meeting was held on the premises of Rieter Holding Ltd. at the company’s headquarters in Winterthur.

At the Annual General Meeting of Rieter Holding Ltd. on April 16, 2020, the independent proxy represented a total of 2 025 shareholders who hold 64.3% of the share capital.

A dividend of CHF 4.50 per share was agreed. The shareholders approved the proposed maximum total amounts of the remuneration of the members of the Board of Directors and of the Group Executive Committee for fiscal year 2021.

Furthermore, This E. Schneider, Hans-Peter Schwald and Bernhard Jucker, the members of the Remuneration Committee who were standing for election, were also each re-elected for a one-year term of office.

Shareholders also adopted all other motions proposed by the Board of Directors, namely approval of the annual report, the financial statements and the consolidated financial statements for 2019, and formal approval of the actions of the members of the Board of Directors and those of the Group Executive Committee in the year under review. In addition, the authorized capital was extended for a further two years.

COVID-19
At present, it is not possible to predict how the global COVID-19 pandemic will affect Rieter’s sales and earnings in the first and second half of 2020, and thus also for 2020 as a whole.

Rieter therefore refrains from providing an outlook for financial year 2020 and will issue the relevant information as part of the semi-annual report on July 16, 2020.
The company has taken the necessary measures to protect employees and to meet commitments to customers as far as possible.

Thanks to long-standing customer relationships, a focus on innovation, global positioning and the company’s financial stability, Rieter will successfully overcome the challenges.

Beaulieu International Group (B.I.G.)’s Tessutica business is proud to announce a new product line in upholstery. Greencare fabrics are created from pellets that come from marine plastic waste. The fabrics themselves can then be 100% recycled into pellets again.

The new Greencare collection is made with 100% recycled and recyclable upholstery fabrics and is certified with the the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) label. The company used recycled yarns from regular post-consumer PET bottles from the oceans, landfills and upcycled cotton from garments.
For this, Tessutica partnered with the Seaqual project, which brings plastic waste back into the manufacturing chain. Through the recycling process there is no usage of new petroleum which decresases the CO₂ emissions significantly compared to the use of virgin polyester.

With growing demands for sustainability within the business world as well as from end-consumers, Tessutica felt it was the right choice to offer a product line that comes with a full guarantee of environmental consciousness.

Die liegt für die Textildruckerei Mayer und ihre knapp 18 Mitarbeiter im Bereich der technischen Textilien; das entsprechende Portfolio wächst stetig. Parallel zu den smarten textilen Lösungen bietet das Familienunternehmen weiterhin die gesamten Leistungen einer klassischen Textildruckerei.

Hier lädt die Textildruckerei unter anderem regelmäßig zu ihren Innovationsgesprächen, einem fachlichen Austausch mit Geschäftspartnern, Kunden und Vertretern von Instituten und Hochschulen. Regelmäßig arbeitet die Textildruckerei auch mit Studenten zusammen, die Projekte im Rahmen von Praktika oder ihrer Abschlussarbeit durchführen. Ein eigener Bereich für Forschung und Entwicklung ist ebenfalls im neuen Gebäude untergebracht.

Montagedienstleistungen am Standort Bulgarien
Zwar weniger augenfällig als in Unterdigisheim, aber nicht weniger wirkungsvoll hat die Textildruckerei in den vergangenen Monaten einen weiteren Ausbau vorangetrieben: in der Niederlassung in Bulgarien. Gegründet im Jahr 2011 bearbeitet das Werk in Petrich zu attraktiven Lohnkosten ausgewählte textile Aufträge. Parallel dazu hat Amcotec einen Bereich für Montagedienstleitungen aufgebaut. Das bulgarische Team unter deutscher Leitung übernimmt seit Anfang 2020 lohnintensive Arbeitsschritte, darunter Baugruppen- und Kleinmontagen, Baugruppenfertigungen, Kunststoffbearbeitung und Kommissionierung.

Obwohl im Bereich der technischen Textilien noch Aufträge abzuarbeiten und Anfragen vorhanden sind, macht sich die Corona-Krise auch in Unterdigisheim bemerkbar. „Für ein vielsprechendes Projekt haben wir mit einem italienischen Geschäftspartner an speziellen Materialien gearbeitet, die eigentlich in den nächsten Wochen bei uns ankommen sollten“, so der Geschäftsführer. „Daran ist in der gegenwärtigen Situation natürlich nicht mehr zu denken.“ Auch insgesamt werde es ruhiger, das Telefon klingelt seltener.

The requirements-specific design of the compact inverter unit ensures functional optimization of the winder’s control functions. And the new component is used in conjunction with a performance-optimized chuck motor. This means that energy savings of up to 3% can be achieved for the take-up.

Further customer benefits include a significant reduction in cables and cable trays. The reduced number of switching cabinets also saves space. Following intensive field tests at two well-known customers last year, the compact inverter unit was finally released for serial manufacture at the beginning of 2020.
There are plans to deliver several thousand positions with the new component this year.

SmartOccupancy verwendet Visiplus 3D, den genauesten Overhead-Personenzählsensor, der mit dem Cloud-basierten Softwareportal HALO von Checkpoint Systems verbunden ist. Die natürliche antibakterielle Wirkung von Silber wird seit Jahrhunderten zur Entkeimung genutzt. Durch Anreicherung mit dem Edelmetall – bis zu 6 Prozent Silbergehalt sind einstellbar – kann die Cellulose-Faser aus Rudolstadt gerade in Krankenhäusern oder Hygienebereichen einen wertvollen Beitrag zum Schutz vor unerwünschten Keimen leisten. „Die Faser wirkt antibakteriell und fungizid – tötet also Keime und Pilze sehr zuverlässig ab“, erläutert Dr. Frank Wendler, der bei smartpolymer die Forschung und Entwicklung der Cell Solution-Funktionsfasern verantwortet. Hierbei handelt es sich um Lyocell-Fasern*, die mit verschiedensten Zusatzfunktionen ausgestattet werden können. Das Besondere: Die Wirkstoffe werden durch ein patentiertes Verfahren direkt in die Faser eingebracht. „Dadurch erreichen wir einen Depot- und einen so genannten Release-Effekt. Das bedeutet, der Wirkstoff bleibt in der Faser gespeichert und wird kontinuierlich über einen längeren Zeitraum nach außen abgegeben“, betont Wendler.

Bei der Verwendung in Atemschutzmasken kommt der Faser noch ein besonderes Merkmal zugute: Lyocell absorbiert Feuchtigkeit sehr gut. Damit wird ein großer Nachteil von Schutzmasken abgeschwächt: Die Ausatemluft durchfeuchtet das Filtermaterial mit der Zeit und macht es so zu einem idealen Nährboden für das Überleben und die Vermehrung von Keimen. Nicht so mit der Entwicklung aus Rudolstadt. Dank der natürlichen Eigenschaften der Lyocell-Faser kann das Vlies bis zu 50 Prozent seines Materialgewichts an Feuchtigkeit aufnehmen. Und die in der Faser gebundenen Silber-Ionen machen die Bakterien rasch unschädlich. Daher können solche Atemschutzmasken vergleichsweise länger getragen und mehrfach verwendet werden.

Die Nachfrage nach Cell Solution bioactive steigt gerade stark an: smartpolymer konnte die Produktion vom großen Labormaßstab erfolgreich auf den Technikumsmaßstab übertragen. Mit Einführung eines Drei-Schicht-Systems soll das Volumen nun kurzfristig so weit wachsen, dass bis zu 10 Tonnen Textil pro Monat mit der Faser ausgerüstet werden können. An einem weiteren Scale-up wird bereits mit Hochdruck gearbeitet.

Die Faser Cell Solution bioactive ist bei der Prüfgemeinschaft Oeko-Tex gelistet und für den Einsatz in Textilien zugelassen. „Zudem erfüllt sie im Stoffkreislauf alle Anforderungen der Nachhaltigkeit“, ergänzt Wendler. „Die Faser wird besonders umweltverträglich hergestellt und ist biologisch abbaubar.“

Sateri’s Fujian Mill Complies with EU-BAT Standard

Sateri’s mill in Fujian, China, has been verified to comply with the European Union Best Available Techniques (EU-BAT) standard. Verified by independent consultant Sustainable Textile Solutions (STS), a division of BluWin Limited (UK), the parameters of the standard assessed included resource utility efficiency, wastewater discharge and air emission.

Sateri’s mill in Fujian, China, has been verified to comply with the European Union Best Available Techniques (EU-BAT) standard. Verified by independent consultant Sustainable Textile Solutions (STS), a division of BluWin Limited (UK), the parameters of the standard assessed included resource utility efficiency, wastewater discharge and air emission.

In the assessment report, STS noted that all of Sateri Fujian’s mill parameters assessed were within the range of EU-BAT limits. Notably, its energy intensity, sulphur to air, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were well under EU-BAT norms. With the use of cutting-edge technologies for air emissions control, the total sulphur recovery rate is over 98%. Sateri Fujian accounts for over 20% of Sateri’s annual total production capacity.
The compliance with EU-BAT standard comes on the back of several key manufacturing and product related industry certifications and standards which Sateri has attained. These include OEKO-TEX®’s MADE IN GREEN, STeP, and STANDARD 100. Sateri is one of the world’s first viscose producers to complete the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) 3.0 assessment. Sateri is also part of the multi-stakeholder Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) manmade cellulose fibre working group, which is developing guidelines to reduce environmental emissions. As a founding member of the Collaboration for Sustainable Development of Viscose (CV), Sateri is supporting the development of CV’s 2025 Roadmap which considers industry best management practices and global certification standards.

Andreas Tobisch new “Head of Sales” of the PFAFF Industriesysteme und Maschinen GmbH

Effective from April 1st, 2020 Andreas Tobisch takes over the position “Head of sales” of the PFAFF Industriesysteme und Maschinen GmbH. The 60-year-old assumes the responsibility for sales activities at the PFAFF location in Kaiserslautern/Germany.

Andreas Tobisch started his career at PFAFF in 1981, where he worked in sales at various locations in Germany. In the mid-1990s, he switched to an international sewing machine dealer as sales manager for almost 10 years before he started successfully his own business in the sewing machine industry together with a partner (both managing directors). At the end of 2014, PFAFF Industriesysteme und Maschinen GmbH was able to win him back for a position in the growth area of "welding technology", where he was most recently the responsible segment manager.

Together with the management and his sales team, Andreas Tobisch will consistently and successfully implement the sales, product and marketing strategy of PFAFF Industriesysteme und Maschinen GmbH. One focus of his work is to expand and strengthen the sales activities of industrial sewing machines, welding machines and automatic sewing units from PFAFF INDUSTRIAL in Kaiserslautern/Germany.
