Drying

After washing and drying our down- and feather-filled bedding there appeared brown spots in the ticking. What could be the reason?

Bedding articles filled with down and feathers may be cleaned in the washing machine. However, the washing machine should be big enough: For large duvets a minimum capacity of 6 to 7.5 kg is necessary.

For the following drying process it is also important that the dryer is big enough. During the drying process down and feathers get fluffy - pillows or blankets increase considerably in volume. If the drum is too small and the bedding cannot move freely in the dryer because of its volume, the ticking lies flat against the wall of the drum.

My pillow has an unpleasant smell after it has been washed. What might be the reason for this?

The reason why for instance pillows develop an unpleasant smell after they have been washed and dried, might be that the down and feathers have not been dried completely. In this case it is advisable to wash them again and dry them thoroughly until they are completely dry.

How can I get my duvet and pillow completely dry after washing?

It is advisable to place a damp towel into the tumble-drier and wet it again several times, if necessary. Thus the sensor of the tumble-drier receives a signal showing that the “laundry is still wet“ and the drying cycle continues.

You may also use the timer, if your tumble-drier offers this function. For instance, adjust “30 minutes, warm”. The procedure might be repeated until the bedding product is completely dry.
