AUSTROMED, BVMed und Swiss Medtech: Engere Zusammenarbeit vereinbart

Die drei deutschsprachigen Medizintechnik-Branchenverbände AUSTROMED aus Österreich, BVMed aus Deutschland und Swiss Medtech aus der Schweiz wollen künftig noch enger zusammenarbeiten, sich bei politischen Themen eng verzahnen und ihren Mitgliedern gemeinsame Services anbieten. Das vereinbarten die Verbände in einer Kooperationsvereinbarung, die auf einer gemeinsamen Vorstandssitzung in Berlin unterzeichnet wurde.

Die drei deutschsprachigen Medizintechnik-Branchenverbände AUSTROMED aus Österreich, BVMed aus Deutschland und Swiss Medtech aus der Schweiz wollen künftig noch enger zusammenarbeiten, sich bei politischen Themen eng verzahnen und ihren Mitgliedern gemeinsame Services anbieten. Das vereinbarten die Verbände in einer Kooperationsvereinbarung, die auf einer gemeinsamen Vorstandssitzung in Berlin unterzeichnet wurde.

„Die DACH-Region ist einer der globalen Marktführer in der Medizintechnik-Branche. Viele MedTech-Unternehmen aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz haben weltweit einen herausragenden Ruf und sind Vorreiter in ihren spezialisierten Bereichen. Wir haben deshalb ein gemeinsames Interesse an der Förderung und Stärkung der Branche in der DACH-Region und wollen bei unseren Zielen enger kooperieren“, sagten die drei Verbandspräsidenten Gerald Gschlössl (AUSTROMED), Dr. Meinrad Lugan (BVMed) und Dr. Beat Vonlanthen (Swiss Medtech). Zu den gemeinsamen Zielen gehört der Erhalt einer hochwertigen Versorgung der Patient:innen, die Herstellung und Bewahrung eines innovationsfreundlichen Rechtsrahmens für die MedTech-Branche, die Stärkung des DACH-Wirtschaftsstandorts, die Positionierung der Medizinprodukte-Unternehmen als attraktiver Arbeitgeber für Fachkräfte oder die Unterstützung der Mitgliedsunternehmen bei Nachhaltigkeitsstrategien.

Vorteile einer engeren Zusammenarbeit sehen die drei Verbandsvertreter Mag. Philipp Lindinger (AUSTROMED), Dr. Marc-Pierre Möll (BVMed) und Dr. Daniel Delfosse (Swiss Medtech) vor allem im stärkeren Austausch von Fachwissen, der Vertretung von politischen Interessen, der Entwicklung von gemeinsamen Initiativen und der Förderung von Best Practices.

Solvay announces Board of Directors for standalone SYENSQO

Solvay announced the future Board of Directors of SYENSQO, effective upon completion of the planned separation of Solvay into two companies – SOLVAY and SYENSQO – which is on track to be completed in December 2023.

SYENSQO’s Board will be composed of 10 members, including 6 independent members, 3 members representing the reference shareholder, Solvac, and the company CEO. They have deep expertise in specialty industries, international business operations, risk management, corporate governance, finance and clean technology.

The following individuals will serve on the SYENSQO Board of Directors:
Rosemary Thorne will serve as independent Director and Chair of the SYENSQO Board, as well as Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee. She is currently an Independent Director on the Solvay Board of Directors, appointed in 2014, and Chair of the Board’s Audit Committee. She is also an Independent Director on the Board of Merrill Lynch International (UK), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of America, serving as Chair of the Audit Committee. Ms. Thorne has decades of financial leadership experience across a wide range of industries. She previously served as Chief Financial Officer at J. Sainsbury, the UK’s largest supermarket chain at the time; Bradford & Bingley; and Ladbrokes. Ms. Thorne previously sat as an Independent Director on the Boards of Royal Mail Group, Cadbury Schweppes, Santander UK, First Global Trust Bank and Smurfit Kappa Group.

Dr. Ilham Kadri will serve as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of SYENSQO. She is currently CEO and President of the Executive Committee at Solvay. Ms. Kadri has successfully led the turnaround of Solvay, delivering double-digit EBITDA growth and 18 consecutive quarters of positive free cash flow, deleveraging the balance sheet and promoting superior people engagement. She is an independent Board member at A.O. Smith and L’Oréal. She is active in non-profit organizations, as Chair of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), member of the steering committee of the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT) as well as a permanent member of the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council (WEF). Ms. Kadri has extensive leadership experience across a variety of industries in four continents and with leading industrial multinationals, including Shell, UCB, Huntsman, Dow, Sealed Air. Prior to Solvay, she was CEO and President of Diversey in the USA, led the company’s return to profitability and resulting spin off and divestiture to Bain Capital. She founded two non-Profit foundations: the Solvay Solidarity Fund in Belgium in 2020 which supported more than 7000 families affected by Covid-19 and natural disasters; and founded the ISSA Hygieia Network in 2015 in the USA, to help women in the cleaning industry. She received two Doctor Honoris Clausa from EWHA University in Korea and Université de Namur in Belgium.

Julian Waldron will serve as independent Director and Chair of the Audit Committee. He currently serves as Deputy Executive Chairman of privately-held Albea Group, a global beauty and personal care packaging company which operates 35 facilities in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Mr. Waldron has held senior leadership roles at several leading listed companies in the industrial, technology and services sectors and brings a wealth of expertise in finance and business operations. Prior to joining Albea in 2022, he was Chief Financial Officer of Suez for three years after serving as Chief Financial Officer and subsequently Chief Operating Officer of Technip. He started his career at UBS Warburg where he spent 14 years. Mr. Waldron also served as an independent Board member and Chairman of finance, risk and investments at Carbon Clean, a privately-owned carbon capture company dedicated to achieving net zero.

Heike Van de Kerkhof will serve as independent Director and Chair of the Nomination Committee. She currently sits on the Board of OCI N.V.. Ms. Van de Kerkhof brings more than 30 years of experience in the chemicals, oil & gas and materials industries, having served in numerous leadership roles around the globe. From 2020 to 2023, she was Chief Executive Officer of Archroma Management, a global specialty chemicals company. During her tenure, she successfully completed the transformational acquisition of Huntsman’s Textile Effects business. Prior to her role at Archroma, Ms. Van de Kerkhof served as Vice President of Lubricants, Western Hemisphere at BP, and held positions at Castrol, The Chemours Company, and Neste Corporation. She also held many leading roles within DuPont over 18 years.

Matti Lievonen will serve as independent Director and Chair of the Compensation Committee. He is currently an independent director on the Solvay Board, appointed in 2017. Mr. Lievonen is a proven executive in the energy, forestry, power and automation industries with an extensive track record of leading businesses through climate transition. For over ten years until 2018, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Neste Corporation, a global leader in next-generation renewable fuels and chemicals. During his time at Neste, Mr. Lievonen successfully promoted the development of clean fuels as well as Finland’s bioeconomy strategy in advancing renewable transportation fuels. He has also been involved with organizations such as Fortum Board, SSAB, Nynäs AB, Ilmarinen, and the HE Finnish Fair Foundation. Until 2021, Mr. Lievonen was also Chairman of the Board of Directors at Fortum. He has been recognized for his admirable leadership and expertise, and in 2016 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Technology by the Aalto University Schools of Technology.

Dr. Françoise de Viron will serve as non-independent Director, Chair of the ESG Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board. She is currently a director of the Solvay Board, appointed in 2013. Ms. de Viron is a regarded academic leader and has extensive experience in innovation, R&D and qualitative research. She is a Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences and Louvain School of Management at UCLouvain in Belgium where she has been an Academic Member of various groups at UCLouvain. Ms. de Viron previously served as the president of AISBL EUCEN – the European Universities Continuing Education Network. Prior to her university position, from 1985 to 2000, she was in charge of developing Artificial Intelligence applications at Tractebel S.A. (now Tractebel-Engie).

Roeland Baan will serve as independent Director. He currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Topsoe, a privately-held leading provider of clean energy and petrochemical technologies. He is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SBM Offshore NV. Roeland Baan has extensive experience in supply chain management, M&A, business development and operations management. Prior to joining Topsoe in 2020, he was President and CEO of Outokumpu and has held several executive roles at global organizations such as Aleris International, ArcelorMittal and SHV NV. He spent over 16 years in various roles across the globe at Shell, living in South America, in Africa and in the United Kingdom.

Edouard Janssen will serve as non-independent Director. He is currently a Director on the Solvay Board, appointed in 2021. Earlier this year, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of D’Ieteren Group, a European leader in automotive distribution services. Mr. Janssen is also a Board member of privately-held Financière de Tubize and Union Financière Boël, as well as Co-Founder and Chair of Trusted Family. Mr. Janssen is active in academics, as Vice-Chair of the International Advisory Board of the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management and on the advisory board of the INSEAD HGIBS. He brings expertise in finance, strategy, entrepreneurship, business management, planning and marketing. He has served as Solvay’s Vice President in strategy and M&A between 2019 and 2021, and prior to that, he was the US-based General Manager for North- and Latin America at Solvay’s Aroma Performance Global Business Unit.
 
Dr. Mary Meaney will serve as non-independent Director. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors and of the Audit Committee of Groupe Bruxelles Lambert SA. She also sits on the Board of Directors and the Remuneration Committee of Beamery, the privately-held talent management company. She is a member of the Board of Directors and of the Finance Committee of Imperial College, London.Dr. Meaney will bring expertise in Strategy, M&A, and change management, which she acquired over a 24-year career at McKinsey. She was a Senior Partner, served on the McKinsey Shareholders Council and led McKinsey’s global Organization practice.

Nadine Leslie will serve as independent Director and is based in the United States of America. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Provident Financial Services , as well as a Non-Executive Director of Seven Seas Water Corporation, a water and wastewater treatment multinational company. She also sits on the Board of Trustees of Hackensack Meridian Health Network and is active as strategic consultant for civil engineering firm T&M Associates. Over a 22-year career at Suez, Ms. Leslie held several leadership positions, the last one being Chief Executive Officer of Suez North America, until 2022. Previously she served as Executive Vice President Health & Safety.

Carbios: New textile preparation line for polyester recycling

Carbios, a pioneer in the development and industrialization of biological technologies to reinvent the life cycle of plastic and textiles, inaugurated its textile preparation line at its demonstration plant in Clermont-Ferrand.

To streamline the textile preparation phase, which is currently carried out by hand or on several lines, Carbios has developed a fully integrated and automated line that transforms textile waste from used garments or cutting scraps into raw material suitable for depolymerization with its enzymatic biorecycling process.  

The patented line integrates all preparation stages (shredding and extraction of hard points such as buttons or fasteners), and provides Carbios with a high-performance, scalable development tool. The platform will help validate the biorecycling technology for textiles at demonstration plant scale (by 2024), and provides Carbios with expertise in working with collection and sorting operators to specify the quality of textiles and the preparation steps needed to make them suitable for enzymatic recycling.

Accelerating Circularity launches Alliance of Chemical Textile Recycling (ACTR) with key members

The mission of Accelerating Circularity is to create new supply chains and business models to turn textile waste into mainstream raw materials. Accelerating Circularity has created a working group, the Alliance of Textile Chemical Recyclers (ACTR), to meet and address the textile industry with a common voice to facilitate accurate information on textile chemical recycling.

“We formed this collective to move chemical recycling technology forward, share common definitions, and address policies in a collaborative way to maximize the elimination of textile waste to landfills and incineration” explained Karla Magruder, Founder and President of Accelerating Circularity. “Chemical recycling technology has many benefits, including quality more similar to virgin fiber and the ability to recycle multiple times.”

ACTR plans to provide the industry with information on how textile chemical recycling can:

As a first step, the ACTR (Alliance of Chemical Textile Recycling) is introducing a dictionary of common terms developed to educate the industry on the chemical recycling of textiles.

The advisory board of A+A in Düsseldorf, an international trade fair for safety, security and health at work, will soon be under new leadership. Stefan Brück, CEO and Chairman of the Board at UVEX SAFETY GROUP GmbH & Co. KG, Fürth, who has been a member of the A+A advisory board for 7 years, will be the new Chairman. In this position he succeeds Klaus Bornack, Managing Director at Bornack GmbH & Co. KG, who successfully headed the advisory board for 12 years. The handover of office will take place during A+A 2023.

Stefan Brück has developed the Uvex Safety Group into one of the innovation leaders in the international PPE industry. He will assume his future task with over 30 years of industry experience under his belt and is already looking forward to the new challenge.

The German companies Brückner, Groz-Beckert, the Karl Mayer Group and Thies invite representatives of the Indian textile industry to a symposium with presentations and discussion panels in Surat, India, on October 11 and 12, 2023. The event will be held at the Marriott Hotel Surat and will focus on the current demand trend for warp knitted elastic fabrics.

The demand for warp knitted elastic fabrics has increased rapidly in the past two to three years. On the one hand, this offers the Indian textile industry new growth opportunities and the chance to establish itself in a leading position in the growing market. On the other hand, the turnaround also holds challenges as the production steps involved in manufacture of warp knitted elastic fabrics are strikingly different from the conventional methods.

BVMed begrüßt Beratungsrecht beim G-BA für Hersteller von Verbandmittel

Der Bundesverband Medizintechnologie (BVMed) hat die gesetzliche Einführung eines Beratungsrechts beim Gemeinsamen Bundesausschuss (G-BA) für Hersteller von sonstigen Produkten zur Wundbehandlung begrüßt. Mit dem Beschluss im Rahmen des Arzneimittel-Lieferengpassbekämpfungs- und Versorgungsverbesserungsgesetzes (ALBVVG) wurde zudem die Übergangsregelung um 12 Monate verlängert. „Damit hat der Gesetzgeber noch rechtzeitig reagiert, um Verbesserungen an der neuen Verbandmittel-Erstattungsregelung vorzunehmen und Nachteile für die Versorgung von Menschen mit chronischen Wunden zu vermeiden“, so BVMed-Geschäftsführer und Vorstandsmitglied Dr. Marc-Pierre Möll. Nun sei es wichtig, „dass der G-BA gemeinsam mit Ärzteschaft, Pflege und Herstellern geeignete und auf die Wundversorgung angepasste Evidenzkriterien entwickelt. Mit dem Beratungsrecht gibt es dafür nun die Grundlage.“

Hintergrund ist, das für sogenannte „sonstige Produkte zur Wundbehandlung“ künftig ein Bewertungsverfahren durchgeführt werden muss, bevor sie durch die GKV erstattet werden. Der Gemeinsame Bundesausschuss (G-BA) hat bislang jedoch keine auf die Wundversorgung angepassten Evidenzkriterien für die erstattungsrelevanten Nutzennachweise definiert. Hierzu gewährt der Gesetzgeber nun – analog zu vergleichbaren Verfahren zur Bewertung des Nutzens von Arzneimitteln nach § 35a SGB V (AMNOG) oder zur Bewertung neuer Untersuchungs- und Behandlungsmethoden nach § 137h SGB V (NUB) – betroffenen Verbandmittel-Herstellern ein Beratungsrecht zur Methodik der für die Nutzenbewertung erforderlichen Studien.

Zur Frage der Evidenzkriterien hatte der BVMed kürzlich im Umfeld des Bremer Wundkongresses eine Umfrage durchgeführt, an der sich über 250 Wundfachkräfte beteiligten. Sie zeigte auf, dass es bei den Behandlungen von 92 Prozent der Teilnehmenden zunächst um die Reduktion klinischer Infektionszeichen geht. 79 Prozent nennen die Reduktion von Wundexsudat, 76 Prozent Reduktion von Schmerzen, 70 Prozent die Verbesserung der gesundheitsbezogenen Lebensqualität der Betroffenen. Die Reduktion der Wundfläche steht bei 58 Prozent im Fokus, die Reduktion der Keimlast in der Wunde bei 55 Prozent. Nur 22 Prozent der Befragten nennen auch den kompletten Wundverschluss als Evidenzkriterium. „Wundauflagen mit antibakterieller Wirkung sind für eine phasengerechte Wundversorgung unerlässlich und müssen auch künftig für die Versorgung chronischer Wunden zur Verfügung stehen“, so BVMed-Wundexpertin Juliane Pohl.

Betroffen von der neuen Regelung ist eine Vielzahl von Produkten wie etwa silber- oder PHMB-haltige Wundauflagen, die bislang erstattungsfähig waren. Nach Einschätzung des BVMed sind rund 400 Produkte betroffen.

Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles returns for Autumn Edition 2023

Following a strong start at the Spring Edition of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles early this year, global industry players have turned their sights to the next international event in August. As the first Autumn Edition to be held in the wake of China lifting many of its pandemic-related border restrictions, the three-day fair will gather around 1,000 international and domestic exhibitors. Traders looking to meet market demand will be able to source from an extensive range of trending and specialised home and contract textile products from 16 – 18 August 2023.

According to a recent market report, the global home textile market is expected to show a CAGR of 5.6% from 2023 – 2028 to reach USD 174.1 billion by the end of the forecast period. As a manufacturing hub for home textiles, China is gradually recovering from social and business disruptions caused by the pandemic. Speaking at the recent Spring Edition, Ms Rosemary Li, Domestic Sales Manager of Zhangjiagang Coolist Life Technology Co Ltd, a long-time exhibitor specialised in bio-based and functional bedding products, said: “Since China relaxed its pandemic-related control and prevention measures, after Chinese New Year we have been flooded with orders. With both domestic and export orders increasing, it has been almost impossible for the production line to fulfil the order demand.”

While the spring show’s promising visitor flow was a positive start to the Chinese home textile industry’s post-pandemic era, a higher participation of overseas exhibitors and buyers is expected at the upcoming Autumn Edition

Researchers from TNO and Fraunhofer UMSICHT have elaborated a white paper that provides a basis for the transformation of plastics production and use. They consider the integration of the perspectives of all stakeholders and their values and the potential of current and future technologies. In addition, the functional properties of the target product, the comparison with alternative products without plastics, and their impact in a variety of environmental, social and economic categories over the entire life cycle are crucial. In this way, a systematic assessment and ultimately a systematic decision as to where we can use, reject or replace plastics can be realized.

Strategies for the Circular Economy
As a result, the researchers describe four strategic approaches for transforming today's largely linear plastics economy into a fully circular future: Narrowing the Loop, Operating the Loop, Slowing the Loop, and Closing the Loop. By Narrowing the Loop, the researchers recommend, as a first step, to reduce the amount of materials mobilized in a circular economy. Operating the Loop refers to using renewable energy, minimizing material losses, and sourcing raw materials sustainably. For Slowing the Loop, measures are needed to extend the useful lifetime of materials and products. Finally, for Closing the Loop, plastics must be collected, sorted and recycled to high standards.

Individual strategies fall under each of the four approaches. While the ones under Operating the Loop (O strategies) should be applied in parallel and as completely as possible. According to the researchers, the decision for the strategies in the other fields (R strategies) requires a complex process: “Usually, more than one R-strategy can be considered for a given product or service. These must be carefully compared in terms of their feasibility and impact in the context of the status quo and expected changes”, explains Jürgen Bertling from Fraunhofer UMSICHT. The project partners have therefore developed a guiding principle for prioritization based on the idea of the waste hierarchy.

A holistic change, as we envision it, can only succeed if science, industry, politics and citizens work together across sectors. “This implies several, partly quite drastic changes at 4 levels: legislation and policy, circular chain collaboration, design and development, and education and information. For instance, innovations in design and development include redesign of polymers to more oxygen rich ones based on biomass and CO2 utilisation. Current recycling technologies have to be improved for high quantity and quality recycling,” explains Jan Harm Urbanus from TNO.

Hands-on platform for cross-sector collaboration
“Therefore, in a next step, TNO and Fraunhofer UMSICHT are building a hands-on platform for plastics in a circular economy: European Circular Plastics Platform – CPP," explains Esther van den Beuken, Principal Consultant from TNO. It will give companies, associations and non-governmental organizations the opportunity to work together on existing barriers and promising solutions for a Circular Plastics Economy. The platform will also offer its members regular hands-on workshops on plastics topics, roundtable discussions on current issues, and participation in multi-client studies on pressing technical challenges. Regular meetings will be held in the cross-border region of Germany and the Netherlands as well as online. The goal is to bring change to the public and industry.

BVMed: 5-Punkte-Plan zum Medizintechnik-Standort Deutschland

Der Bundesverband Medizintechnologie (BVMed) fordert in einem 5-Punkte-Plan Maßnahmen für die im Koalitionsvertrag vorgesehene Stärkung des Medizintechnik-Standorts Deutschlands. Zu den Forderungen des deutschen Medizintechnik-Verbandes gehören eine beauftragte Person der Bundesregierung für die industrielle Gesundheitswirtschaft, eine Stärkung der Resilienz und der Lieferketten, ein Belastungsmoratorium und Entbürokratisierungs-Offensive für die KMU-geprägte Branche, Fast-Track-Verfahren für Innovationen mit klaren Fristen sowie einfache Anerkennungsverfahren für benötigte Fachkräfte.

Der Bundesverband Medizintechnologie (BVMed) fordert in einem 5-Punkte-Plan Maßnahmen für die im Koalitionsvertrag vorgesehene Stärkung des Medizintechnik-Standorts Deutschlands. Der BVMed-Vorstandsvorsitzende Dr. Meinrad Lugan bezeichnete die Medizintechnik-Branche als „Aushängeschild für die deutsche Wirtschaft“: „Wir sind Innovationstreiber. Wir sind Jobmotor. Wir haben Hidden Champions und sind Exportweltmeister. Wir haben 93 Prozent Mittelstand. Für Deutschland steht viel auf dem Spiel. Denn: Der Medizintechnik-Standort Deutschland ist stark gefährdet.“ Das liege neben den massiv gestiegenen Kosten für Energie, Rohstoffe und Logistik sowie Inflation und steigende Löhne vor allem an „hausgemachten Problemen“: Sehr kompliziertes regulatorisches System für Medizinprodukte, überbordende Bürokratisierung und Regulierungswut sowie schleppende Digitalisierung im Gesundheitssystem und mangelnde Datennutzung. „Wir senden damit keine Signale für einen innovationsfreundlichen Standort aus“, so Lugan. Er fordert: „Um Top-Talente im Land zu halten und Innovationen hier zu entwickeln, brauchen wir bessere Rahmenbedingungen!“.

Der 5-Punkte-Plan des BVMed sieht unter anderem vor:

1. Beauftragte Person der Bundesregierung für die industrielle Gesundheitswirtschaft
Für eine gut koordinierte MedTech-Branchenstrategie „aus einem Guss“, muss die ressortübergreifende Zusammenarbeit verbessert werden. Der BVMed fordert daher die Benennung einer beauftragten Person der Bundesregierung für die industrielle Gesundheitswirtschaft sowie die Stärkung der Abteilung Gesundheitswirtschaft im Bundeswirtschaftsministerium.

2. Resilienz und Lieferketten stärken
Der BVMed spricht sich für einen „systemischen und strategischen Ansatz“ aus, um die Resilienz des deutschen Gesundheitssystems und die Lieferketten zu stärken. Dazu gehören eine bessere Einbeziehung der MedTech-Branche in die Erarbeitung von Lösungen, die Unterstützung des Aufbaus von Produktionskapazitäten in Deutschland in Produktbereichen, in denen eine strategische Unabhängigkeit erreicht werden soll, sowie die Einrichtung einer digitalen Bestandsplattform versorgungskritischer Medizinprodukte, um Transparenz in Echtzeit zu erreichen.

3. Belastungsmoratorium und Entbürokratisierungs-Offensive
Der BVMed fordert eine Entbürokratisierungs-Offensive, die den deutschen Mittelstand im Blick hat, konsequent Überregulierungen abbaut sowie in Brüssel für standortfreundliche Regulierungen kämpft. Dazu gehört, dass die Verantwortung für Lieferketten auf die unmittelbaren Zulieferer beschränkt bleibt. Der BVMed fordert zudem einen einheitlichen ermäßigten Mehrwertsteuersatz auf Medizinprodukte sowie mehr Geschwindigkeit und bessere Förderung von klinischen Studien. Wichtig seien zudem adäquate Mechanismen, die die ambulante Hilfsmittelversorgung auch im derzeitig starren Vertragskonstrukt sicherstellt.

4. Fast-Track für Innovationen mit klaren Fristen
Der BVMed setzt sich für flexiblere und schnellere Bewertungsverfahren mit klaren Fristenregelungen beim Gemeinsamen Bundesausschuss (G-BA) und beim Bewertungsausschuss ein. Forschende Medizinprodukte-Unternehmen benötigen zudem einen besseren Datenzugang und ein Antragsrecht beim Forschungsdatenzentrum. Außerdem sollte sich Deutschland dafür einsetzen, dass die EU-Medizinprodukte-Verordnung (MDR) strategisch weiterentwickelt wird und „mehr Berechenbarkeit und Schnelligkeit“ beim Marktzugang von Medizinprodukten bietet. So spricht sich der BVMed unter anderem für Fast-Track-Verfahren für innovative Medizinprodukte aus, die den Stand der Technik erheblich verbessern oder einen bislang ungedeckten medizinischen Bedarf betreffen. Hier gebe es bereits etablierte Regelungen zu FDA-Programmen oder Arzneimittel-Verfahren.

5. Fachkräfte gewinnen
Um dringend benötigte internationale Fachkräfte für die Medizintechnik-Branche zu gewinnen, fordert der BVMed einfache Anerkennungsverfahren, Integrationsangebote und Internationalisierung der Verwaltungsverfahren. Außerdem sollten die Arbeitsbedingungen insbesondere in der Pflege verbessert werden, beispielsweise durch den geförderten Einsatz von digitalen Lösungen und pflegeunterstützenden Technologien.

Italian Textile Machinery: Drop in orders for 2023 first quarter

The textile machinery orders index for the first quarter of 2023, as processed by the Economics Office of ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, declined markedly compared to January-March 2022 (-35%). In absolute terms, the index stood at 84.8 points (basis: 2015=100).

This result is mainly due to a reduction in the orders intake recorded by manufacturers on foreign markets. Indeed, foreign orders dropped by 40%, whereas the domestic market showed a 14% increase. The absolute value of the index settled at 78.3 points abroad, while it measured in at 148.1 points in Italy. During this year’s first quarter, booked orders stood at 4.2 months of guaranteed production.

ACIMIT president Alessandro Zucchi stated that, “The order index for the first quarter confirm a trend of the past few quarters, where uncertainty still predominates in global markets, both in terms of a macroeconomic framework that is characterized by a penalizing inflationary trend and ongoing geopolitical tensions. This is a scenario that this does not facilitate investment plans for businesses.”

However, this uncertainty does not appear to affect the sector’s operators, who are nonetheless permeated by a sense of optimism, as is also testified by the positive data drawn from a comparison with orders from the previous quarter (October-December 2022), for which total orders had been slightly on the rise at +3%. Indeed, the president of ACIMIT confirms that, “Manufacturers in our sector don’t lack for work, having filled up on orders last year and are now busy fulfilling them. The forecasts for 2023 remain positive”. Zucchi concluded, “I expect this confirmation of a healthy manufacturing sector to come from ITMA Milan, the world’s premier trade show dedicated to textile and clothing technologies, slated to open on June 8th at the Rho Fiera exhibition spaces. The exhibit will feature over 400 Italian manufacturers, taking up approximately 30% of the entire exhibition space. This figure is in itself a result that confirms the leadership role of Italy’s textile machinery manufacturers”.

Sappi maintains the high quality of its coated Transjet and uncoated Basejet sublimation papers by regularly investing in new, state-of-the-art technologies. At the end of April, a new warehouse has been inaugurated at the Carmignano mill in Italy. In the next month’s, Sappi will further invest in two new converting machines with a width of 1.9 meters and 3.2 meters as well as in a fully automated packaging line. All the investments will support the company’s vision of having a complete in-house solution for the sublimation industry, have a positive impact on CO2 emission, satisfy the increased demand of their customers as well as further improve lead times.
 
“Verve” dissolving wood pulp for high-quality textiles
Sappi will also be showcasing its dissolving pulp (DP) brand “Verve”. DP provides the feedstock raw material toward producing rayon fibres such as Lyocell and viscose and further into yarns and fabrics. Textiles produced from wood based cellulosic fibres are noted for their breathability, colour fastness, softness, drape, absorbency and biodegradability. In addition to the garment industry, dissolving pulp is also used in various household and pharmaceutical products.
