DENIMAZING: a new denim world

The year 2020 witnessed an acceleration in the importance of online sales. It is now clear to anyone involved the business of sales that e-commerce represents the future.

That’s when the creative idea by Laura Pianazza, founder of DENIMAZING (combination of DENIM and AMAZING), was launched on the platform powered by VELVET.  Its prime objective is to help small and medium sized companies to increase their online sales, focusing on the development of marketing strategies in an omnichannel environment thanks to an intelligent balance between technology and professional experience.

That’s when the creative idea by Laura Pianazza, founder of DENIMAZING (combination of DENIM and AMAZING), was launched on the platform powered by VELVET.  Its prime objective is to help small and medium sized companies to increase their online sales, focusing on the development of marketing strategies in an omnichannel environment thanks to an intelligent balance between technology and professional experience.

Laura Pianazza derives her professional experience from the editorial sector, where she was active for many years on a European level for a trade magazine specialized in the denim business. Thanks to this background, she was able to develop a strong network of contacts with entrepreneurs, top management and marketing agencies. Her constant interaction with customers shed light on the digital challenges present in most Italian companies: firstly, the fragmentation of services offered online and, secondly, the lack of integration between technology and marketing strategies. The latter is the one most often neglected by firms and Laura recognized many risked not being well prepared for this transformational shift in business by investing little time and at a slow pace.

The DENIMAZING project works side by side with denim fabric manufacturing companies (b2b), finished product brands and distribution companies (b2c), all with the same common denominator: denim. A unique service assisting raw materials manufacturers in finding market niches in companies that create product, who in their own right would like their brand to be seen and sold to a growing customer base. In the b2b landscape, companies can sell their own fabrics by the meter thanks to their own 3D presentation and customers can virtually visit their showrooms. Similarly, brands will have the same possibility to sell their creations as on a real e-commerce site, thanks to virtual tours in their showroom and specific areas for sales and/or chatting/videocalls with end-customers. Instead, for companies providing supply chain services (coloring, washing, etc.), individual virtual rooms will be made available inside the marketplace, in order to speak directly with sales managers from brands and the fabric companies.

The business side is just one aspect of this project. Thanks to its partnership with the marketing and online sales agency VELVET, DENIMAZING grows based upon a series of key tasks during different phases, namely: platform construction, marketing and advertising, both traditional and via web and social medias.

Not only has Laura has added a series of high-level technology/web master courses to her experience, but DENIMAZING also brings together a team of qualified professionals having a longtime experience in different fields of the denim business: sales, entrepreneurs, web design and marketing, while the end-customer will be in direct contact with the headquarters for assistance, customer care and updates.

PCMC adds virus-killing wet wipes machines to nonwovens lineup

Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC) has announced its industry-leading wet wipes folding machines the Rx200 and Mako Clipper are now available with high-content alcohol, measuring as much as 70 percent.

Previously, PCMC wet wipes machines operated with less than 20 percent alcohol, producing disinfectant wipes for personal, home, industrial and automotive use. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a spike in demand for sanitizing wipes that contain at least 70 percent alcohol, the key component in killing or deactivating viruses.

To help manufacturers meet the increased demand, PCMC redesigned its Rx200 and Mako Clipper to safely operate with high-content alcohol. The new designs feature increased air exchange for better ventilation and additional sensors to eliminate the risk of flash points and fires. The machines also include IDS 150/300 integrated dual stackers and a redesigned Mako saw to meet more stringent regulations and higher machine performance expectations.

Vor Corona war der Sportmarkt in Deutschland eine von Wachstum verwöhnte Branche. Von 2011 stieg der Umsatz mit Sportbekleidung und -schuhen sowie Hartwaren bis 2019 um 12,1 Prozent. Deutschland bewegt sich, könnte man daraus schließen und tatsächlich wird im Sportmarkt Geld ausgegeben. 2019 weist mit 90,16 Euro die höchste Pro-Kopf-Ausgabe innerhalb der letzten zehn Jahre aus. Mit Corona aber muss auch diese Branche zum Teil kräftige Dämpfer hinnehmen. Die gute Nachricht: Es gibt auch Wachstum im Corona-Jahr. Vor allem die individuelle Bewegung unter freiem Himmel sorgt für Zuwachs. So legte das Running-Segment 2020 gegenüber 2019 um 2,3 Prozent zu. In der gleichen Zeit gab der Markt für Sportartikel insgesamt um rund 4,5 Prozent nach. Denn insbesondere Mannschafts- bzw. Team-Sportarten sowie der indoor gebundene Sport leiden unter den Shutdown-Beschränkungen. Das belegt die jetzt veröffentlichte Studie „Branchen-REPORT Sport 2021“. Darin errechnen die Marktforscher von Marketmedia24, Köln, anhand wissenschaftlicher Methoden vier mögliche Entwicklungen für die Branche. So wird die Branche selbst im Best-Case-Szenario erst in 2022 den Umsatz aus 2019 wieder übertreffen. Ein Sieger in der Pandemie ist wie in vielen anderen Konsumgütermärkten der Online-Handel, der selbst im Worst-Case-Szenario bis 2028 um ein Drittel gegenüber 2019 zulegen wird.

Trotz, zum Teil auch aufgrund der vielen Coronabedingten Einschränkungen wie Reisen, Freizeitbeschäftigungen und Homeoffice, ist der Sport stärker ins Bewusstsein der Deutschen gerückt. Vor allem in den Bereichen Laufen, Training und Fahrrad sowie in neuen Trendsportarten erwartet die Industrie viel.

Die Lage für die meisten stationären Handelsformate der Branche ist nicht erst seit Corona kritisch. Durch Shutdown, dem lediglich der Lebensmittelhandel permanent entging, sowie die Hinwendung der Kunden zu Online-Anbietern, zu welchen immer stärker auch die Lieferanten zählen, wachsen die Zukunftssorgen insbesondere des Fachhandels. Vor diesem Hintergrund rät die „vds Connected Coaching Concept for Retail“ Initiative des Verband Deutscher Sportfachhandel (vds) ihrer Klientel, sich mit Hilfe digitaler Produkte als Gesundheitscoach der Nation neu zu positionieren.

Angesichts der Corona-Pandemie sind allerdings konkrete Vorhersagen über die zukünftige Entwicklung des Sportmarktes schwierig geworden. Gängige und gelernte Vorhersagemodelle greifen nicht mehr, Planungen erfolgen mit großer Vorsicht, denn die Vorausschau auf die längerfristigen Marktentwicklungen beginnt mit einem Rückblick auf die Vergangenheit. Doch spielt die Vergangenheit für die Zukunft dieser Branche überhaupt noch eine Rolle? Der neue „Branchen-REPORT Sport 2021“ kann aufgrund der vielen unbekannten Einflussfaktoren zwar keine eindeutige Antwort auf die Frage geben. Die Studie liefert aber tragfähige, auf möglichen Entwicklungen des Wirtschaftswachstums beruhende Szenarien bis zum Jahr 2028. Für den Gesamtmarkt ebenso wie für die Teilmärkte Wintersport, Bade/Beach, Outdoor, Fitness, Fußball, Running sowie für die „übrigen Sportarten“, die mit sportartübergreifenden und Nischenprodukten sowie Umsätzen des Golf-, Racket- und Anglersports 2020 immerhin fast 25 Prozent des gesamten Sportmarktes generierten. Im optimalen Fall erwartet das Marktforscherteam von Marketmedia24 zwar einen zuverlässigen Aufschwung. Sollte die Stagnation des Marktes hingegen länger anhalten, beginnt die Erholung in kleinen Schritten, um bis 2028 auf ein Marktvolumen von fast 7,5 Milliarden Euro anzusteigen.

Sie zeichnen sich durch Produktivität, Zuverlässigkeit und Flexibilität zur Diversifizierung des Anwendungsbereichs aus und bieten ein attraktives Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.   • Mimaki JV100-160: Dieser Eco-Solvent-Rollendrucker für das Einstiegssegment ermöglicht den hochwertigen Lösemitteldruck bei denkbar niedrigen Betriebskosten. Der JV100-160 nutzt die neu entwickelte, schnell trocknende Eco-Solvent-Tinte „AS5“. Als Tintenkonfigurationen werden 4-Farb-Modus (CMYK) im Doppelmodus sowie 8-Farb-Druck mit zusätzlichem Light Cyan (Lc), Light Magenta (Lm), Orange (Or) und Light Schwarz (Lk) angeboten. Aufgrund ihrer hohen Kratzfestigkeit und Witterungsbeständigkeit ist sie ideal für vielfältige Innen- und Außenanwendungen.
  • Mimaki UJV100-160: Dieser UV-Rollendrucker vereint hohe Produktivität, extrem hohe Vielseitigkeit und Druckgeschwindigkeit. Er arbeitet mit der kostengünstigen, sofort aushärtenden UV-Tinte „LUS-190“, die für kürzere Produktionszeiten ohne Entgasungsphase nach dem Druck sorgt. Die LUS-190 kann nicht nur PVC, sondern auch unbeschichtete Substrate, wie PET-Folie oder Papier, bedrucken. Dieses System ist die ideale Lösung für den Einstieg in die UV-Drucktechnologie.
  • Mimaki TS100-1600: Der Textildrucker TS100-1600 bietet eine preisgünstige, hochwertige Lösung für Druckdienstleister, die in den digitalen Sublimationsdruck einsteigen und ihre Produktionskapazität erweitern möchten. Er hat eine Druckbreite von 1.600 mm mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 70 m2/h im schnellsten Modus. 1-Liter-Tintenbehälter im TS100-1600 sorgen für geringere Betriebskosten und ermöglichen aufgrund der geringeren Austauschfrequenz einen stabilen, kontinuierlichen Betrieb. Der TS100-1600 ist für den Einsatz in mehreren Bereichen hervorragend geeignet, wie für Mode, Soft Signage, Innendesign, Sportbekleidung und personalisierte Objekte.

Im Rahmen seines langfristigen Engagements zur Förderung der Innovation im Digitaldruck wird Mimaki auch zwei brandneue Drucksysteme auf der virtuellen drupa vorstellen. Devan, one of the leading companies in sustainable and functional textile finishes, has been working together with Jeanologia, a global leader in sustainable and efficient finishing technologies for textiles, to reduce further water consumption during the application of Devan’s awarded BI-OME® antimicrobial and R-Vital® skincare range.

With increased attention to climate change and limiting excess water consumption in textile production (whether denim or other textiles), Devan and Jeanologia worked together to evaluate the application of Devan finishes onto garments via the patented e-Flow technology.

Devan, one of the leading companies in sustainable and functional textile finishes, has been working together with Jeanologia, a global leader in sustainable and efficient finishing technologies for textiles, to reduce further water consumption during the application of Devan’s awarded BI-OME® antimicrobial and R-Vital® skincare range.

With increased attention to climate change and limiting excess water consumption in textile production (whether denim or other textiles), Devan and Jeanologia worked together to evaluate the application of Devan finishes onto garments via the patented e-Flow technology.

e-Flow technology can accomplish a considerable number of finishing effects with the highest quality, a minimal amount of water and zero discharge. The technology uses micronization and nebulization to substitute traditional abrasion process and deliver performance chemistry using nano-bubbles instead of water. It reduces the cost of application, saves the amount of water used and ensures that the correct amount of chemistry stays in the garment and not in the water. e-Flow is the perfect fit for every industrial washing machine. This allows mills and brands to apply Devan’s technologies in a more sustainable way than using traditional application equipment, even for smaller production runs and direct onto garments.

“With the global textile production using 4% of the global freshwater withdrawal, here at Devan we are continuously working on more sustainable solutions”, says Dr. Vanessa Daelman, CTO at Devan. “Next to this, we of course highly value sustainable application methods from Jeanologia, like e-Flow, in order to reduce the excess water usage during textile application. Folgt man der REACH-Verordnung, kann man die Welt ganz einfach in Gut und Böse aufteilen: Substanzen, die der Natur entstammen, werden unabhängig von ihrem Gefahrenpotential von der Chemikaliengesetzgebung ausgeschlossen, exakt identische Substanzen, die technisch mit exzellentem Reinheitsgrad hergestellt werden, sind hochverdächtig und somit zahlreichen Regulierungen und teuren Prüfungen zu unterwerfen.

Wälder werden zu Plastik
Die Krönung dieser grundsätzlichen Weltanschauung finde sich in den aktuellen Vorstellungen der EU-Kommission zum Thema Cellulose, so die Industrievereinigung Chemiefaser e.V. (IVC): Cellulose - aus Bäumen und Pflanzen gewonnen - würde künftig nicht mehr zu den Naturstoffen zählen, nachdem sie in einem Verarbeitungsschritt chemisch gelöst und von Verunreinigungen befreit wurde. So bearbeitete Cellulose und die daraus produzierten Fasern würden dann definitionsgemäß zu Plastik, obwohl es sich um exakt dieselbe Cellulose handele, die zuvor der Natur entnommen wurde.

Anwälte positionieren sich bereits, um die EU-Kommission zu verklagen - und das mit guter Aussicht auf Erfolg. Das scheint nur auf den ersten Blick ein Lösungsweg zu sein – berücksichtige man aber die erwartete Verfahrensdauer von mehreren Jahren, so werde sich der Markt zum Zeitpunkt der Urteilsverkündung längst neu formiert und Cellulosefasern Made in Europe aus bestimmten Anwendungsbereichen verdrängt haben.

Grenzwerte als K.O.-Kriterium
Vordergründig schieße man in Europa auch auf dem Gebiet des Arbeitsschutzes deutlich über das Ziel hinaus, so die IVC. So wird der luftbezogene Arbeitsplatzgrenzwert für N,N-Dimethylformamid (DMF) REACH-konform grundsätzlich für alle Beschäftigte neu auf ein gemeinsames Niveau von 6 mg/m³ festgelegt werden. Zuvor lag der Grenzwert für Schwangere bei 3 mg/m³ und für Nicht-Schwangere bei 15 mg/m³. Da 3 mg/m³ in der Faserindustrie aus produktionstechnischen Gründen nicht eingehalten werden können, arbeiteten beispielsweise in bestimmten abgegrenzten Produktionsbereichen der Acrylfaserindustrie nur männliche Beschäftigte. Gleiches gilt produktionstechnisch auch für den neuen Grenzwert von 6 mg/m³. Gesundheitliche Probleme bei 15 mg/m³ gab es bislang in keinem Fall, was durch die internationale wissenschaftliche Literatur bestätigt wird.

Die ursprünglich vorgesehenen knappen Übergangsfristen zur Einhaltung des neuen Grenzwertes von 6 mg/m³ wurden zwar deutlich verlängert, aber es bieten sich auch noch schnellere pragmatische Lösungen: Diskriminierungsfrei würden dann in Zukunft an bestimmten europäischen Arbeitsplätzen in der Acrylfaserproduktion weder Männer noch Frauen arbeiten, und zwar unabhängig davon, ob letztere schwanger sind oder nicht. Produktionen schließen bereits zum Jahresende 2021. Und so werde es nicht um die Verbesserung des Arbeitsschutzes in Europa oder vereinfachte Kontrollen von Grenzwerten gehen, sondern im Endergebnis darum, ohne Notwendigkeit Fasersparten ihre Fertigungsgrundlage zu entziehen.

Vom 17.-19. März fand die physische Ausgabe der  CHIC Shanghai im National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai statt und zeigte sich erneut als Trendkatalysator und wichtiges Face-to-Face Event der Modebranche mit über 88.000 Besuchern.

Unter strikter Einhaltung der Hygienemaßnahmen ermöglichte Asiens Leitmesse an drei Tagen persönliche Kontakte und rege Geschäfte. Teilnehmer und Besucher begrüßten die Möglichkeit sich vor Ort zu treffen, die Matchmaking Aktivitäten wurden verdreifacht.

Insgesamt 932 Brands präsentierten die gesamte Modepalette in 10 Bereichen. Besonders im Fokus der Messe unter dem Motto „CHIC Garden“ stand das Thema Sustainability, kreativ umgesetzt von den chinesischen Künstlern Ma Defan und Li Haitao, begleitet von der Green Fashion Society und dem Sustainable Fashion Forum.

Neben den  CHIC Shows, die mit beeindruckenden Designer-Schauen überzeugten, wurde auch der renommierte FN Footwear News China Achievement Award verliehen. Im CHIC Wonderland drehte sich alles um innovative Sneaker.

Riri Group thus becomes the first manufacturing company in the fashion accessories industry to introduce the use of recycled polyester as production standard for its zip range. This achievement marks another essential one in the sustainability path that the Swiss-Italian Group has walked since the 90s. This change fits perfectly the Group’s green approach which sees innovation for the future as one of the main pillars of the corporate strategy, as well as the commitment to protecting natural resources and to improving the

This change fits perfectly the Group’s green approach which sees innovation for the future as one of the main pillars of the corporate strategy, as well as the commitment to protecting natural resources and to improving the
traceability and transparency of both materials and processes, in a framework that sees to rethink social and economic models. Riri’s slogan “excellence in details” can also be read as “sustainability in details” as it speaks to the company’s will to act putting sustainability first.

By employing recycled polyester as production standard for the zip range, the contribution to sustainability on a quantitative level will be significant:

• The company, in fact, will reduce emissions resulting from polyester purchase by 32%; thus, carbon footprint will be cut down by 3%, for zip production. As a result, 460,000 kg of
CO2 per year is saved, the same as 169 return flights from Geneve to New York.

• All the recycled polyester is GRS (Global Recycled Standard)-certified, highlighting Riri’s constant commitment to choosing suppliers that meet the industry’s international standards.

• The recycled polyester used in tapes for zips is made from recycled polyester fibers, both  pre- (20%) and post-consumer (80%).

• An important contribution is made to the goal of increasing the global use of recycled polyester, as stated by Textile Exchange, from 14% to 20% by 2030.

This choice shows once more the ability of the company to develop products that keep in mind the environment whilst preserving functionality, reliability and that visual taste that the world of fashion requires.

Indeed, Riri has introduced its first recycled polyester tape in 2013 and since then has been consistently increasing the use of GRS-certified recycled polyester that comes from recycled materials.

Baldwin Technology Company Inc. has launched Unlocking Potential, a new podcast series that covers the latest trends, innovations and technologies in key industries—from packaging and converting, to security printing, textile production, film extrusion and more.

The first episode debuted February 1, and it shares the history and evolution of Baldwin, which recently marked 100 years of innovation. Episode 2 features a conversation with Baldwin experts about security printing advancements.

“We are excited to introduce this opportunity to share ideas, insights and educational content with customers, partners and associates around the world,” said Baldwin’s Chief Marketing and IoT Officer Steve Metcalf, who joined Chief Commercial Officer and longtime Baldwin team member Peter Hultberg on the inaugural episode. “In a time when traditional trade shows and conferences are being reimagined, podcasting provides a familiar platform for us to be conversational again.”
