David Herberg, Vice President Engi-neering EMEA at automotive supplier Adient, has been named Rising Star 2022 in the Engineering category by Automotive News Europe magazine.

Every year since 2010, Automotive News Europe has recognized talents in the European automotive industry for their outstanding careers and special achievements in the service of their company and the industry as a whole. To be eligible, candidates must have a minimum of ten years’ experience in the industry, speak at least two languages and be aged 45 years or younger at the time of the nomination.

"The 19 people we are honoring this year are special," said Luca Ciferri, Associate Publisher & Editor of Automotive News Europe. "They’ve made it to the top from a pool of more than 130 candidates, making this year's selection process the most competitive in the history of the award."

Herberg, graduate industrial engineer and aged 45, looks back at a career spanning more than ten years at Adient, a leading supplier of seating systems for the automotive industry. After several years at the management consultancy McKinsey and various management positions at Adient as well as its predecessor Johnson Controls, Herberg has been responsible for around 1,200 employees in the development of seat structures, trim and complete seating systems since May 2020.

The 2002 prize of the Walter Reiners Foundation of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association for the best Master's thesis in German textile mechanical engineering was awarded to a young engineer from the ITA Institut für Textiltechnik of RWTH Aachen University. The prize ceremony took place at Techtextil 2022 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Peter D. Dornier, Chairman of the Board of the Walter Reiners Foundation, presented the award at the VDMA Textile Machinery Association’s booth.

Felix Xaver Zerbes, M.Sc., was awarded the "Promotional Prize for the Best Master's Thesis of the German Textile Machinery Industry 2022", endowed with 3,500 EUR, for his master's thesis "Development and Construction of a Separation Unit for Weft Yarns in Air Jet Weaving".

The subject of the master's thesis was the development of a mechanism with which faulty sections in the weft yarn can be sorted out before they are woven into the textile. This way, both yarn-related weft defects and material defects can be drastically reduced. The prototype developed by Mr Zerbes shows how this can be done even during the ongoing weaving process without having to stop production. Due to its modular design, the yarn rejection unit can be retrofitted to many different types of air-jet weaving machines, which represents an enormous savings potential not only in Germany but in weaving mills all over the world.

Zum neuen Präsidenten des VDTF wurde Prof. Dr. Michael Rauch gewählt, der den Master-Studiengang „Sustainable Textiles“ an der Hochschule Hof leitet und dort auch das Lehrgebiet Verfahrenstechnik der Textilveredlung betreut. Er ist Vorstand der Regionalgruppe Bayern-Nord und Schatzmeister des internationalen Textilverbandes IFATCC (International Federation of Associations of Textile Chemists and Colorists).

Ihm zur Seite stehen aus dem bisherigen Vorstand Peter Schomakers, der bis zu seinem Ruhestand bei der Fa. Thies GmbH &Co. KG beschäftigt war und weiterhin im IHK-Prüfungsausschuss für Textilveredlung in NRW tätig ist, sowie Paresh H. Patel, geschäftsführender Gesellschafter der Chemie Impex, Reutlingen. Neu im Vorstand sind Harald Bäumle, Technischer Direktor der Wendler Einlagen GmbH & Co.KG, sowie Andreas Troscheit, bisher tätig für die CHT Germany GmbH in den Anwendungsbereichen Ausrüstung und Beschichtung, künftig bei der Fa. Brückner Textile Technologies GmbH &Co. KG in Leonberg. Weiter werden Lothar Hentz, Sales Manager für den Bereich DACH bei der Fa. Tanatex, B.V. Niederlande sowie Lukas Hartmann, Geschäftsführer Intex Consulting GmbH, im Vorstand mitarbeiten.

Die Wahlen im Verband Deutscher Textilfachleute VDTF e.V. standen im üblichen dreijährigen Rhythmus an. Laut Satzung dürfen Präsident und Vorstandsmitglieder nur einmal wiedergewählt werden, sodass aus dem aktuellen Vorstand nur zwei Personen erneut kandidieren konnten. Die offizielle Amtszeit des neuen Vorstandes beginnt nach der Mitgliederversammlung 2022 am 24. September in Nordhorn.

Albstadt-based Mayer & Cie. has been named a Top 100 award-winner for the third time as one of Germany’s most innovative small and mid-range businesses. The jury made special mention of the circular knitting and braiding machine manufacturer’s innovative processes. At the centre of the family firm’s further digital development is on the aim to boost its customers’ productivity. Last Friday, 25 June, members of the Mayer & Cie. management received the award from the science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar at the SMB summit in Frankfurt am Main.

For some time now, the focus of development work at Mayer & Cie. has been on lean management in assembly processes, on optimisation of aftersales service, including setting up an online shop for spare parts, and on product lifecycle management, or PLM, which stands for a concept of seamless integration of all the information that arises during a product’s lifecycle. A clean data structure is the basis for these measures, it’s called the “digital backbone”. It means that all product data is processed in the same database and all information is available only once and can be downloaded immediately.

In all, 436 companies, including about ten per cent from machinery and plant engineering, competed for the Top 100 seal of innovation this year. Nearly 300 were successful and were congratulated in person by Ranga Yogeshwar at the SMB summit. He noted that the award winners set a role model example. “Innovators are thought leaders; they are always pioneers too,” said Yogeshwar, who mentors the competition. “They put their products to the test and ask themselves what an ecological society and a climate-oriented world will require of them. And they check the opportunities and challenges that increasing digitisation will bring for forms of cooperation, social relationships and, with them, for employee retention.”

Italian textile entrepreneur, Alberto Paccanelli, has been re-elected as President of EURATEX during its General Assembly on 17 June; he will thus extend his mandate with 2 more years, until June 2024. Paccanelli is CEO of the Martinelli Ginetto Group, active in the high-end home textiles. He is also a Board member of Sistema Moda Italia and Confindustria Bergamo.

On the occasion of his re-election, Paccanelli presented his vision on the future of the European textiles industry: “With the adoption of the EU Textile Strategy on 30 March, the European Commission  has launched a very ambitious journey that will change the nature of our industry: more focus on sustainability and durability, more transparency within the supply chain, more communication with the consumer, but also a better level playing field for our European companies, and more investment in innovation, digitalisation and skills development. That is a very ambitious agenda, which needs to result in a more resilient European textile industry. The coming 2 years will be critical to translate that vision into specific legislation and concrete programmes. This requires a strong EURATEX, to actively contribute to that process. I am honoured to continue leading the organisation and fulfil this challenging task.”

EURATEX GA also elected 4 other members of the Presidency Team: Bodo Bölzle (Amann, Germany), Jean François Gribomont (Utexbel, Belgium), Grégory Marchant (UTT, France) and Ismail Kolunsag (Cross Tekstil, Turkey). During the Assembly, EURATEX also welcomed new memberships from Ukrlegprom (Ukraine) and Astrico (Romania), and a partnership with Inditex (Spain).

Professor Dr. Michael Doser, stellvertretendes Vorstandsmitglied und Prokurist der Deutschen Institute für Textil-  und Faserforschung Denkendorf (DITF), ging Ende Mai 2022 in den Ruhestand. Fast 32 Jahre war er an den DITF tätig. Er war für alle Forschungsstellen ein wichtiger Kommunikator und Impulsgeber und engagierte sich als Wissenschaftler insbesondere für den Auf- und Ausbau des Forschungsbereichs Biomedizintechnik an den DITF.

Michael Doser begann 1990 seinen Weg an den DITF – zunächst am damaligen Institut für Textil- und Verfahrenstechnik Denkendorf (ITV) unter Professor Heinrich Planck. Als promovierter Biologe der Universität Hohenheim und mit ersten Erfahrungen als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Genetik in Hohenheim brachte er das Rüstzeug mit, um die Textilforschung in Richtung Medizintechnik neu zu denken. Er forschte zu Pankreas und Leber im Bereich Biohybride Organe und führte zahlreiche Projekte in der Regenerationsmedizin durch mit Entwicklungen für die Haut, für Blutgefäße, Nerven, Knorpel und Knochen. Doser baute den Forschungsbereich Biomedizintechnik an den DITF rasch zu einem wichtigen Geschäftsfeld auf und übernahm bereits 1998 dessen Leitung. Mit dieser Expertise wurde die Fördergemeinschaft Körperverträgliche Textilien e.V. (FKT) gegründet, die ein Prüfsiegel für die Bewertung und Kennzeichnung körperverträglicher Textilien entwickelte. Markenhersteller wie Mey, Falke, Mattes und Ammann oder Lenzing nutzen bis heute das Qualitätssiegel.

Für seine wissenschaftliche Arbeit und sein Engagement in der Biomedizintechnik erhielt Michael Doser zahlreiche Ehrungen und Auszeichnungen, zum Beispiel den EU EUREKA Innovation Award in der Kategorie „Erfinder von morgen” für die Entwicklung eines textilbasierten Verschlusses für einen Riss in der Bandscheibe.

Über diese Projekte der Biomedizintechnik engagierte sich Doser gleichzeitig schon früh als interdisziplinärer Ideengeber und kooperativer „Verbindungsmann” für andere Forschungsbereiche in Denkendorf. Seit 2001 nahm Doser diese Aufgaben als stellvertretender Institutsleiter des damaligen ITV und später als stellvertretender Vorstand der DITF wahr und prägte damit ganz wesentlich die Geschicke der DITF.

Erfolgreiche Gremienarbeit
Neben seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit engagierte sich Doser in zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Gremien sowie Normenausschüssen und nahm über viele Jahre Gutachtertätigkeit wahr, unter anderem für die Forschungsdirektion der Europäischen Union. Besonders am Herzen lag ihm seine Mitgliedschaft in der European Society of Biomaterials, in der er einige Jahre im Vorstand aktiv war und 2018 zum ESB Honorary Member ernannt wurde.

Einige DIN-, ISO- und ASTM-Normen im Bereich biologischer und medizinischer Prüfungen tragen Dosers Handschrift. Von 2006 bis 2018 war er Leiter der ISO Arbeitsgruppe 5 zum Thema Cytotoxicity und brachte in dieser Funktion einen Standard zur Prüfung der Unbedenklichkeit von Medizintextilien auf den Weg, der heute noch für die Testung aller Medizinprodukte weltweit zur Anwendung kommt.

Engagement in der Lehre
Seit 1994 gab Michael Doser sein umfangreiches Wissen an Studierende weiter, zunächst mit Vorlesungen an der Universität Stuttgart, später auch mit Lehraufträgen an den Universitäten Ulm und Tübingen. In Würdigung seines Engagements in der Ausbildung auf dem Gebiet der Medizinischen Verfahrenstechnik und Medizintechnik wurde Doser zum Honorarprofessor der Universität Stuttgart ernannt.

Carbios announces the appointment of two new members to its Executive Committee: Lionel Arras, Industrial Development Director, and Mathieu Berthoud, Sourcing and Public Affairs Director.

Lionel Arras joined Carbios’ teams in 2021 to support the industrial growth of PET enzymatic recycling technology as Industrial Development Director. He was appointed to the Company’s Executive Committee on May 2. An engineer who graduated from ENSIC Nancy and holds an MBA from the Lyon School of Management, Lionel Arras has more than 25 years of experience in the field of process engineering and the chemical industry.
At Carbios, he now heads a team of around 50 people mobilized around three major divisions:
- the industrial demonstration plant, inaugurated last September in Clermont-Ferrand,
- technological development,
- the first Reference Unit project, installed on the Indorama Ventures site in Longlaville, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.

Lionel Arras, Carbios’ Industrial Development Director: “After the successful start-up of our industrial demonstration plant in Clermont-Ferrand, we are continuing our scale-up with the construction of the first enzymatic recycling plant in the world in Longlaville, France. Its launch, scheduled for early 2025, will enable the processing of 50,000 tons of post-consumer PET waste or the equivalent of 2 billion bottles. It is a great source of pride for me to be able to support Carbios in this strategic development phase.”

Mathieu Berthoud will join Carbios as Sourcing and Public Affairs Director on June 1, 2022. With more than 30 years of experience, including 10 years at Rhodia (now Solvay) and more than 20 years at Suez, in various commercial development or subsidiary management positions, he was most recently Technical and Performance Director for the Group’s recycling and recovery activities. A university-trained scientist, he also holds an MBA from HEC Paris. At Carbios, he will be responsible for securing the supply of PET waste for the future reference plant in Longlaville and the other industrial sites that will follow. He will also manage the Company’s public affairs.

Das Textile and Fashion Network e.V. und der Verband der Rheinischen Textil- und Bekleidungstechnik e.V. küren jährlich die besten Absolvent:innen des Jahrgangs am Fachbereich Textil- und Bekleidungstechnik der Hochschule Niederrhein. In diesem Jahr wurden bei der MG ZIEHT AN am 19. Mai die Studierenden Markus Bünnemeyer und Meike Siemes für ihre herausragenden Abschlussarbeiten ausgezeichnet.

Der Vorsitzende des Textile and Fashion Network e.V. Markus Schmitz überreichte Bünnemeyer den Preis für seine Bachelorarbeit. Der Textil- und Bekleidungstechnik-Student entwickelte in seiner Thesis eine Konzeption eines kennzahlenbasierten Vertriebscockpits für die Filialsteuer eines textilwirtschaftlichen Mass-Customization-Anbieters.

„Herr Bünnemeyer hat Kennzahlen entwickelt, die eine effektive Steuerung der einzelnen Filialen ermöglichen. Neben der Ableitung und Auswahl aussagekräftiger sowie relevanter Kennzahlen war auch die Aufbereitung dieser im „Dashboard“ des Vertriebscockpits zu gestalten. Hier hat er in idealer Weise eine graphische Darstellung gefunden, die optisch auf einen Blick den Erfüllungsgrad jeder Kennzahl zeigt und das Dashboard übersichtlich und strukturiert wirken lässt“, betonte die Referentin der Arbeit Prof. Dr. Ute Ständer bei der Verleihung.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kleinebrink vom Verband der Rheinischen Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie e.V. zeichnete die Master-Studentin Meike Siemes für ihre Abschlussarbeit aus. Der Dekan des Fachbereichs Prof. Dr. Lutz Vossebein erläuterte: „Meike Siemes gehört nicht nur aufgrund ihrer Abschlussarbeiten (sowohl Bachelor- als auch die Masterarbeit mit 1,0 bewertet) zu den herausragenden Absolventinnen unseres Fachbereiches. Sie hat ihre duale Ausbildung in der Öffentlichen Prüfstelle für das Textilwesen der Hochschule Niederrhein absolviert und wurde dafür bereits vor einigen Jahren als landesbeste Auszubildende von der IHK geehrt.“

Der Verband der Rheinischen Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie e.V. ist der Arbeitgeber- und Wirtschaftsverband für die Unternehmen der Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie im Bereich Nordrhein des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen. Cooperating alliances for lightweight technology: The European Lightweight Association (ELA) and the European Lightweight Clusters Alliance (ELCA) have decided to work together. Both European lightweight clusters are united by the common goal of giving the enormous economic and ecological potential of lightweight technology more visibility in politics, business and science at European, national and regional level. In addition, complementary expertises of work form the basis for the future partnership, from which European lightweight technology can optimally benefit.

"We see great potential in the future cooperation of the ELA and the ELCA to advance lightweight technology in Europe with combined forces," says Dr Katharina Schöps as representative of the ELCA. "In this way, we are strengthening the global competitiveness of European companies and at the same time making a significant contribution to climate protection," says Jean-Pierre Heijster of the ELA about the cooperation of the European lightweight technology networks.

Together, ELCA and ELA represent a growing network of more than 4,500 companies and more than 600 research institutions from 12 European countries active in lightweight technology across different
sectors and industries. This brings together the two largest lightweight technology communities in Europe. Lightweight solutions from Europe can thus gain visibility and be implemented more quickly in global markets.

Joining forces to strengthen lightweight technologies ́ market position at the European level ELCA and ELA want to improve the positioning of lightweight technologies and materials with joint activities and events, in particular to prioritise them on the agenda of the European Commission. The cooperation thus wants to send a clear signal to Brussels. Especially with the view to achieve European climate protection goals; lightweight technology has the potential to conserve valuable resources and reduce CO 2 emissions. At the same time, the improved sustainability with the same or even optimised performance brings valuable competitive advantages for companies. Lightweight products and technologies Made in Europe can thus become a unique selling point for European stakeholders on international markets.

With this cooperation, ELCA and ELA combine their respective strengths: ELCA, as the European Lightweight Clusters Alliance, has very successfully created a resilient pan-European innovation ecosystem for lightweight technology in recent years. ELA, on the other hand, is particularly characterised by its close ties to industrial users. As a result, the existing ecosystem is enriched and a more demand-oriented development and faster market introduction is made possible. In this way, both lightweight technology networks will complement each other optimally in the future in order to bring technology and markets together in a targeted manner.

Langjährige Logistik- und Supply Chain Expertise, internationale Berufserfahrung, unterschiedliche Führungspositionen in der Fashionindustrie – mit Tobias Wolter holt sich das Streetwear-Unternehmen LFDY einen erfahrenen Experten aus der Modebranche an Bord. Ab dem 01. Juni 2022 ist der 48-Jährige als Director Supply Chain für die Bereiche Einkauf, Logistik und Customer Service zuständig. Dabei liegt sein Hauptaugenmerk darauf, diese drei komplexen Bereiche verstärkt aufeinander abzustimmen und sie gleichzeitig stärker mit den weiteren internen und externen Schnittstellen zu verknüpfen. Ziel ist es, eine robuste und ebenso agile Lieferkette zu etablieren.

Wolters Karriereweg begann vor 25 Jahren bei dem Modekonzern Esprit. Hier sammelte er Erfahrungen in unterschiedlichen Positionen der Konzernlogistik, unter anderem verantwortete er als Logistics Manager North America die Logistikorganisation und regionale Supply Chain der Esprit-Märkte USA und Kanada. Weitere berufliche Stationen bei Hugo Boss in Metzingen und der Beratung Tailorit führten ihn 2016 zum Modeunternehmen Peek & Cloppenburg. Als Head of SCM E-Commerce verantwortete er zuletzt die operative Steuerung und Weiterentwicklung der B2C-Logistikkette sowie deren Integration in die Omnichannel-Strategie der Unternehmensgruppe.

„Mir steht eine spannende Aufgabe bevor. Gemeinsam mit meinem neuen Team möchte ich aktiv an einem nachhaltigen Wachstum von LFDY mitwirken. Dafür werden wir eine übergreifende Supply Chain-Strategie erarbeiten, die das geplante Wachstum sowie weitere Internationalisierungsmaßnahmen optimal abbilden und eine skalierbare Umsetzung ermöglichen.
