Lenzing – The Lenzing Group is substantial increasing its production of lyocell fibers to meet the strong demand for these products and further strengthening its position as an industry leader in specialty fibers. Over the next years, it plans to invest more than EUR 1 bn in new production facilities for lyocell fibers. The first expansion phase of this ambitious growth plan, the construction of a state-of-the art lyocell fiber production plant in Prachinburi (Thailand), has now been approved. The plant will have a capacity of 100,000 tons and feature investments of approximately EUR 400 mn.

This new version of Modaris, the most widely used modeling solution by leading brands in fashion and apparel, offers greater speed, efficiency and precision in product development. With its powerful 3D simulation and collaboration tools, patternmakers are developing patterns faster and speeding up their decision-making procedures. To preserve and strengthen its position as a market leader of product development software, Lectra, with this upgrade of Modaris, is giving particular focus to 3D virtual prototyping. Patternmakers can now share with their partners, 360-degree videos, accessible on any device. Designers in response are able to visualize, comment, and approve the style and fit using the new 3D Style module.

New advances have made it possible to reduce the number of physical prototypes by up to 50%. Modaris V8R2 improves the quality of the solution’s 3D simulations and expands its library with new assets (fabrics, 3D top-stitching effects, realistic scenes, lighting studios, Pantone® and Natural Color System®©,…). The solution is now compatible with Vizoo, a high-quality scanner that brings forth a heightened realism to the appearance of fabric swatches, and with other 3D solutions such as Maya, 3DS Max, Iray to make the digital renderings of the prototypes more true-to-life and accurate.

One of the innovative developments of Modaris V8R2 is a special dart feature to help patternmakers add dimension to their garments with ease. Thanks to this new feature, modifying a dart requires half the usual time, resulting in a 50-90% increase in overall patternmaking speed.

Another highlight of this solution, and important nod to the globalized workforce of the fashion industry, is its ability to manage different units of measurement. With Modaris V8R2, Lectra has made it possible for patternmakers and external suppliers the guarantee of size compliance, regardless of the measurement systems used in the countries where production occurs.

Modaris V8R2 is already gaining traction among its pilot customers. Italian womenswear company GGZ was the first to endorse Modaris V8R2. “GGZ is a fast-fashion company and time and quality are of the essence for us. Modaris’s new dart feature helps us save up to 50% of pattern modification time. Additionally, 3D prototyping helps us ensure that pattern volumes and proportions correspond to our designers’ expectations early on, dramatically reducing our lead times,” attests Majla Gottardo, Patternmaker, GGZ.

GKD-Prozessbandhit zur Techtextil: Glashybrid-Band für die Vliesverarbeitung

Eine hohe Zahl an Fachbesuchern nutzte die Gelegenheit, im Rahmen der Techtextil mit den Prozessbandexperten der GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG (GKD) aktuelle Problemstellungen zu diskutieren. Ihr besonderes Interesse galt den antihaftbeschichteten Glashybrid-Bändern für den Einsatz in Ein- und Doppelbandtrocknern. Aber auch die Metallgewebelösungen für Filtrationsprozesse und Architektur, die der weltweit führende Hersteller für anwendungsspezifisch entwickelte Hochleistungsgewebe in Frankfurt präsentierte, zogen zahlreiche Besucher an den Stand.

Eine hohe Zahl an Fachbesuchern nutzte die Gelegenheit, im Rahmen der Techtextil mit den Prozessbandexperten der GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG (GKD) aktuelle Problemstellungen zu diskutieren. Ihr besonderes Interesse galt den antihaftbeschichteten Glashybrid-Bändern für den Einsatz in Ein- und Doppelbandtrocknern. Aber auch die Metallgewebelösungen für Filtrationsprozesse und Architektur, die der weltweit führende Hersteller für anwendungsspezifisch entwickelte Hochleistungsgewebe in Frankfurt präsentierte, zogen zahlreiche Besucher an den Stand.

Großformatige, verschiebbare Panels – in Werkstoff, Bindung und Farbigkeit höchst unterschiedliche Gewebetypen für Industrie und Architektur – waren auf dem GKD-Messestand zur Techtextil Eyecatcher zum Anfassen. Für Prozessbandkunden, die diese Bänder seit vielen Jahren erfolgreich einsetzen, diente ein für GKD typisches blaues Band als weithin sichtbares Erkennungszeichen. Die ebenfalls anfassbaren Nahtmuster motivierten vor allem auch neue Interessenten, das Gespräch mit den GKD-Ingenieuren zu suchen. Im Mittelpunkt der Gespräche über innovative Prozessbandlösungen standen die Bereiche Thermobonding, Forming und Hygiene. Messehit bei den Prozessbändern waren die von GKD zur internationalen Leitmesse für technische Textilien und Vliesstoffe präsentierten antihaftbeschichteten Glashybrid-Gewebebänder.

Nichts klebt mehr

Mit diesem Bandtyp beantwortet GKD ein drängendes Problem in der Vliesverfestigung und -trocknung: Er verbindet durch in Laufrichtung verwebte Glaslitzen geringes Gewicht mit Querstabilität. Sein besonderes Plus ist jedoch die hochwertige Antihaftbeschichtung, die auch bei stark haftenden Produkten die Verschmutzung durch Produktrückstände minimiert. Dadurch kann diese am Markt bislang einzigartige Bandausführung den Gesamtprozess deutlich verbessern. Zudem wirken sich die seltener erforderlichen Reinigungszyklen und in der Folge höheren Standzeiten auch auf die Produktivität positiv aus. Im Vergleich zu herkömmlichen Glasdreherbändern mit PTFE-Beschichtung gewährleisten die Glashybrid-Gewebebänder von GKD durch ihren zuverlässigen Antihaftschutz und die hohe Querstabilität deshalb eine signifikant bessere Prozessperformance. Entsprechend groß war das Interesse an diesem neuartigen Bandtyp für Thermobondingprozesse.
Neben vielen Bestandskunden, die die Messe zur Kontaktpflege und Information nutzten, zog der GKD-Stand auch viele neue Interessenten an. Die Vielzahl der Kontakte und Fachgespräche auf hohem Niveau prägt das Fazit von Michael Seelert, Geschäftsbereichsleiter Prozessbänder: „Unser Messeauftritt zur Techtextil war sehr erfolgreich, von der Qualität der Kontakte her sogar bisher der beste überhaupt.

The Florence International Handicrafts Trade Fair faces its 83rd edition being completely renovated both in form and contents. Starting from 2019, the curators decided to develop the New perspectives of making section, dedicating it to “Craft design in the circular econ-omy scenario”.

The C.L.A.S.S. pillows have been selected, together with other 24 italian excellences, to create a new mapping of the crafts’panorama reconnecting with the most relevant design, business and production realities with the best, sheding the light on the Italian actions toward environmental sustainability, with focus on circular economy.

In this context, the C.L.A.S.S. by Manusa pillows shine, whose creation was majestly ideated by Barbara Guarducci, a designer and creative director involved in textile and craft design projects that hold a social value as well as co-founder of Ginger Design, a creative team with a multi-disciplinary approach.

SMART COMPOSITES: IPC UNVEILS AN INTELLIGENT MOTORCYCLE HELMET AND A MULTIFUNCTIONAL WIND TURBINE BLADE

IPC, the Industrial Technical Centre with expertise dedicated to plastic and composite innovation, is presenting two prototypes on its stand: an intelligent motorcycle helmet and a multifunctional windturbine blade. "With these two prototypes, IPC demonstrates its ability to functionalize composites, particularly with printed electronic components. Live demos will be organized during the three days of the show on our booth," explains Bertrand Fillon, General Manager of Research at IPC. The helmet was manufactured in partnership with the technical and creative paper manufacturer Arjowiggins, and the wind turbine blade, with the CEA. These two demonstrators will also be exhibited in Germany at the LOPEC exhibition 2019 in Munich on 20-21 March.

IMPROVE THE USER EXPERIENCE
The objective is to add new features to improve the user experience, without impacting security. The motorcycle helmet is equipped with sensors and NFC communication functions. "Here, printed organic electronics are used in the helmet to allow remote temperature changes," adds Lionel Tenchine, Program Line Manager for "Technologies for Intelligent Products" at IPC. The helmet manufacturing process is based on the use of composites and the infusion process.

DETECTING POTENTIAL DAMAGE IN ADVANCE
Developing predictive maintenance is an important issue when it comes to avoiding sudden, serious accidents. A recent McKinsey study estimates that by 2025 it will save $630 billion for companies, for example. The wind turbine blade presented at JEC World detects potential damage that could occur on the blade structure beforehand, making it possible to carry out preventive repairs on the one-meter-long blade. Printed organic electronics are used in the demonstrator to integrate strain gauges and the temperature detection function.

On March 7th, European Commissioner on the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises has been welcomed in Prato by the mayor Matteo Bittoni and by the Councilor for Productive Activities Daniela Toccafondi, together with the economic categories for a meeting organized by the Department of Economic Development with reference to the Fashion System.

By the end of the meeting, the only company visit planned has followed, and brought to the Manteco headquarter. Manteco is a firm leader in the production of wool and recycled fabrics since 1943.  Today led by Matteo and Marco Mantellassi, Manteco is able to value territory, sharing economy, sustainability, internationalization and the use of renewable energies – not only as an investment policy but also as a distinctive element for the identification of the company as an international reference point for the fashion textile sector.

The key topic of the meeting has been the circular economy  – that is to consider very close to Manteco – along with some others explored such as the value of Made in Italy, the importance of a responsible approach to reuse and the need for a traceability system. Noteworthy the visit to the Manteco Archive, during which the focus has been on raw materials, with reference to the tradition and experience that today are perfectly combined with the strong innovative drive and creativity. Upon request of the European Commissioner, the corporate approach with a view to circular economy, km0 production system and how it fits into the productive district were also dealt with.

Deutschlands schönstes Restaurant 2019 ist das „Blüchers“ im Schloss Fleesensee in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Eine Jury namhafter Vertreter aus der Gastronomie- und Interiorszene kürte das von Kitzig Interior Design gestaltete Ambiente zum Sieger. Das Kreativbüro setzte sich unter 63 Bewerbungen um den Titel „Die schönsten Restaurants & Bars“ durch.

Initiator des Wettbewerbs ist der Callwey-Verlag, der diese Auszeichnung im Rahmen der Internorga zum ersten Mal verlieh. Die Relevanz der Auszeichnung zeigte sich an der hochkarätigen Jury: Ingrid Hartges, Geschäftsführerin DEHOGA Bundesverband, Innenarchitektin Verena Kaup, Claudia Schütz, Vizepräsidentin bdia, Jan Spielhagen, Chefredakteur „B-EAT“ und Michael Teodorescu, Chefredakteur „24 Stunden Gastlichkeit“.

MIPS kritisiert den Mangel an Standards bei Prüfung von Rotationsbewegungen

Das weltweit führende Unternehmen für helmbasierte Sicherheits-Technologien, MIPS, begrüßt neue Rotationssysteme auf dem Markt, kritisiert jedoch den Mangel an Standards bei der Prüfung von Rotationsbewegungen. Die Sicherheit des Anwenders müsse immer an erster Stelle stehen.

MIPS forscht seit über 20 Jahren am Thema Gehirn-Schutz. Das vom Unternehmen patentierte Brain Protection System (BPS) wurde entwickelt, um die Rotationsbewegungen zu reduzieren, die durch seitliche Stöße auf den Kopf auf das Gehirn übertragen werden, und Sicherheit für die Menschen im Freien zu gewährleisten, vom Anfänger bis zum Profi-Sportler.

Bei einem Sturz können die Kräfte auf den menschlichen Kopf in radiale und tangentiale Kräfte unterteilt werden.
