DiloGroup at INDEX

After a long break, the international nonwovens industry will meet again in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 19 to 22, 2021 on the occasion of INDEX. DiloGroup offers tailormade production systems from one supplier and will inform about its portfolio and the latest equipment developments from fibre opening to the finished felt.

A new, simplified elliptical needle beam drive makes Hyperpunch technology also attractive for standard application. Hyperpunch HαV allows a more uniform stitch distribution in the preneedling process especially in combination with the new needle pattern 6000X. In a complete needling line this felt homogenization process can be improved further by using the new needle pattern 8000X which is a milestone in the needle pattern development process and results in endproduct surfaces with low markings over a wide range of advances/stroke.

The “3D-Lofter” which was first presented during ITMA 2019 in Barcelona offers a wider range of nonwovens applications by exploring the third dimension. A series of single web forming units which work according to the aerodynamic web forming principle deliver defined fibre masses in varied patterns on a base needlefelt. A stress oriented production of technical formed parts resulting in fibre savings or patterned DI-LOUR or DI-LOOP felts are two examples for this technology which explores new application areas for needlefelts The 3D-Lofter technology may also be used “inverted” for filling up bad spots in web mats and thus achieves a better homogeneity of e. g. spunlace, thermobond or airlay products.

The DiloLine 4.0 concept offer I4.0 modules which not only support the user but also facilitate quality control and maintenance by a maximum data transparency in production and control of operation. The Dilo solutions “Smart Start” for a fully automatic start of the production line or “DI-LOWATT” for energy savings are accompanied by Siemens solutions which can be selected via App or Data Cloud “MindSphere”.

Apart from machines for needling technology we offer in cooperation with partner companies also production lines including thermobonding and hydroentangling components.

Mit CONDUCTO® 7690 präsentiert GKD auf der INDEX eine Gewebekonstruktion aus Polyester-Monofilen und metallischen Multifilen. Die webtechnisch auf der Bandrückseite eingebrachten Metallfasern haben keinen Kontakt zum Produkt. Das qualifiziert diesen Gewebetyp auch für die risikofreie Produktion anspruchsvoller Medizin- oder Hygieneprodukte. Gleichzeitig gewährleistet das ebenso robuste wie flexible Garn aus Edelstahlfasern eine bis zu zehn Mal höhere Ableitung elektrostatischer Aufladung als herkömmliche Bänder.

Converting: Spiralbänder
Mit Spiralbändern aus eigener Fertigung bietet GKD eine Lösung für Anwendungen, die beispielsweise  für breite oder schnelllaufende Anlagen der Hygienevliesindustrie geeignet sind.

Thermobonding: Antihaftbeschichtetes Glashybrid-Gewebe
In Doppelbandöfen sind die Glashybrid-Gewebebänder bei der thermischen Verfestigung von hoch voluminösen oder stark verdichteten Produkten geeignet. Querstabilität und vollständige PFA-Beschichtung qualifizieren sie für stark klebende Produkte ebenso wie für Anlagen mit großer Arbeitsbreite oder Produkte mit starken Schrumpfkräften. Als einlagige Gewebekonstruktion mit Edelstahldrähten in Schussrichtung und Kettseilen aus Glasfaserlitzen sind sie außerdem energieeffiziente Leichtgewichte - wahlweise magnetisch oder nichtmagnetisch ausgelegt.

Polymerfiltration: Lange Standzeiten durch Metallgewebekonstruktionen
Die prozessabhängige Gewebeauslegung gewährleistet hohe Schmutzaufnahmekapazität, feine Abscheideraten und geringe Verblockungsneigung. Langfilter oder Ronden aus anwendungsindividuell abgestimmten Gewebelagen optimieren im Spinnbalken die Filtration des Schmelzflusses.

Lenzing supports school competition on circular economy and climate protection

Lenzing – The Association of Chemistry Teachers in Austria – known by its German abbreviation, VCÖ – has been holding project competitions that thrill students and take them beyond the traditional syllabus for 30 years. Every two years, it highlights a key topic for ninth- and tenth-graders to explore by conducting special experiments and learning from their observations and conclusions.

Lenzing – The Association of Chemistry Teachers in Austria – known by its German abbreviation, VCÖ – has been holding project competitions that thrill students and take them beyond the traditional syllabus for 30 years. Every two years, it highlights a key topic for ninth- and tenth-graders to explore by conducting special experiments and learning from their observations and conclusions.

This year, the 16th installment of the competition is called, “Achieving a cleaner climate and a circular economy with chemistry”. These topics are also near and dear to the heart of globally active fiber manufacturer Lenzing. That’s why the company promptly announced that it was prepared to support this project competition in several different ways. First, Lenzing made a contribution toward the sponsorship fund totaling EUR 30,000. Second, it initiated a special prize on biodegradability – a topic of growing importance given the huge challenges involved in reducing plastic waste. Finally, Lenzing placed a recognized expert at the students’ disposal to provide assistance and answer questions: Michaela Kogler, Project Manager Nonwovens & Technical Products.

Teaming up with rainworms

Two teams were tasked with biodegrading different fibers – just like those used to produce textiles and nonwovens – with the active participation of worms. Students at BRG solarCity in Linz buried fiber nonwovens, a basic material used in wet wipes and other products, in soil that was populated with numerous rainworms, while students at Vöcklabruck Junior High School for Sports and Integration layered textiles into a vermicomposting bin. Both experiments intended to determine the extent to which certain materials would biodegrade quickly. As it turned out, both projects showed that wood-based fibers, like those that Lenzing manufactures for the textile and nonwoven industry, break down very rapidly into natural constituents that swiftly pass into the soil. In contrast, fossil-based plastics such as polyester or polyethylene cannot be decomposed by worms or bacteria but remain in the soil, sometimes for hundreds of years.

The prizes for this year’s competition were awarded on June 11. The competition attracted entries from no fewer than 209 schools, including 11 from outside Austria. For more information on the projects and the winners, visit www.vcoe.or.at.

Hugo Boss has a clear agenda for how they will gradually become even more sustainable. One of the company's intermediate goals is to have reduced total water consumption by 40% by 2025 - where WRSD is expected to be involved and contribute with competence and technology. The long term goal for Hugo Boss is to be completely climate neutral by 2050.

In November, Hugo Boss Ag entered the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World for the fourth year in a row. Hugo Boss is thus one of the four companies in the textile, clothing and luxury segment that have qualified for the index this year. Hugo Boss is also listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) Europe for the first time. In the assessment carried out by S&P Global, HUGO BOSS improved significantly compared with the previous year and received, among other things, the assessment “best in class” in several categories.

SGL Carbon SE moves up to the SDAX after all

The Deutsche Börse AG Group announced that an incorrect data basis regarding the index changes published on March 3, 2021, had been corrected. As a result, the SGL Carbon SE share will be included in the small cap index SDAX on the chaining date on Monday March 22, 2021. The promotion to the SDAX is carried out within the framework of the so-called Regular Entry Rule.

The SDAX comprises 70 stocks, which follow the MDAX stocks in the ranking according to free float market capitalization and stock exchange turnover.

"We are very pleased that Deutsche Börse has corrected its previous decision and that we will be included in the SDAX," said Dr. Torsten Derr, Chief Executive Officer of SGL Carbon SE. "For us, the promotion is a confirmation of our restructuring efforts to date and at the same time an aspiration and obligation to consistently continue the path we have taken so far in the future."

U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol: new traceability tool for US cotton

Starting midth of July, brands and retailers can join the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, a new system for responsibly grown cotton that will provide annual data for six areas of sustainability in line with the UN Sustainability Goals. This year-on-year data available for the first time will allow brands and retailers to better measure progress towards meeting sustainability commitments.

The Trust Protocol underpins and verifies sustainability progress through sophisticated data collection and independent third-party verification. By working with Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture and Control Union Certifications North America, the Trust Protocol enables brands and retailers to better track the cotton entering their supply chain. Brands who become members of the Trust Protocol will have access to aggregate year-over-year data on water use, greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, soil carbon and land use efficiency.

The Trust Protocol is a complement to existing sustainability programs and is designed from the ground up to fit the unique cotton mass-growing environment of the United States.

The PHANTOM technology is released to Teknoweb Materials by P&G in worldwide exclusive license. The PHANTOM technology is the superior dry laid alternative technology for manufacturing wet wipes from pulp and polymer fibers, for example. Compared to conventional, known processes, this technology offers superior performances with cost advantage in much more eco-friendly products. Dispensing with hydroentanglement renders subsequent drying of the material redundant. Targeted process management allows the optimal setting of the relevant product parameters such as softness, tenacity, dirt absorption and liquid absorption.

Spunlaid-Vliesformierung: Metallische Ableitung auch für Hygieneprodukte
Mit CONDUCTO® 7690, einer Gewebekonstruktion aus Polyester-Monofilen und metallischen Multifilen, ist es GKD gelungen, Elektrostatik ableitendes Metall so aufzubereiten, dass es auch für anspruchsvolle Medizin- und Hygieneprodukte risikolos einsetzbar ist. Das jüngste Mitglied der CONDUCTO®-Familie ermöglicht eine bis zu zehn Mal höhere Ableitung elektrostatischer Aufladung als herkömmliche Bänder. Die webtechnisch auf der Bandrückseite eingebrachte Metallfaser hat keinen Kontakt zum Produkt. Das flexible Garn aus Edelstahlfasern korrodiert nicht, ist robust und biegewechselfreundlich. Zugleich optimiert es die Ableitung elektrostatischer Aufladung in bisher nicht gekanntem Maße. Diese Eigenschaften paart die neue Gewebekonstruktion mit den bekannten Vorteilen aller CONDUCTO®-Formierbänder: hoher Mitnahmeeffekt, homogene Vliesbildung, optimale Vliesabnahme und einfache Reinigung.

Vliesverfestigung und -trocknung: Jahrelange Laufzeit ohne Anhaftungen
Ein deutliches Plus an Prozesseffizienz kennzeichnet die Erfolgsbilanz der antihaftbeschichteten Glashybrid-Gewebebänder von GKD: Im mehrjährigen Praxiseinsatz als Ober- und Unterband haben sie in anspruchsvollen Thermobonding-Prozessen mit stark klebenden Produkten die hohen Erwartungen an Prozessperformance und Produktqualität weit übertroffen. Die einlagige Gewebekonstruktion aus Metalldrähten im Schuss und Glasfaserlitze als Kette macht die Bänder zu energieeffizienten Leichtgewichten. Jahrelange Laufzeit, minimierte Reinigungsintervalle und hohe Fertigungsgeschwindigkeit unterstreichen ihre Wirtschaftlichkeit. Auch bei großen Arbeitsbreiten oder starken Schrumpfkräften des Produktes überzeugen die Glashybrid-Gewebebänder durch exzellente Querstabilität und Laufeigenschaften. Ihre vollständige hochwertige PFA-Beschichtung schützt Drähte, Litzen und Kreuzungspunkte sogar bei stark klebenden Produkten oder dem Einsatz von BiCo-Fasern vor Anhaftungen aller Art. Converting: Praxisbewährte und leistungsstarke Alternative
Kundenspezifisch angepasste Spiralgliederbänder aus eigener Fertigung ergänzen die bewährte Prozessband-Palette von GKD. Insbesondere bei sehr breiten oder schnelllaufenden Anlagen, auf denen Hygieneprodukte hergestellt werden, sind die Spiralgliederbänder oftmals eine attraktive Alternative. Polymerfiltration: Lange Standzeiten, präzise Filtration

Designed and administered by global brand and sustainability research expert, Ellen Karp of Anerca International, the extensive study explored a broad assortment of consumer attitudes about textile sustainability including harmful substances, the industry’s environmental impact, and the social welfare of textile workers.

Prior to answering questions about clothing and home textiles in particular, consumers responded to several queries to gauge their attitudes about sustainability in general. To understand the relative importance of climate change, consumers were asked to pick the top five issues that worry them most from a list of sixteen political, economic, personal, and global problems. “Terrorism” ranked first with 49% of consumers listing it in their top 5, “illness and disease” was second with 42%, and “climate change” rated third with 41%. “My personal finances” came in fourth at 37%. “Opportunities for my children in the future” and “the political leadership in my country” tied for fifth with 31% each.

“Climate change has become a significant issue for consumers,” Karp concludes. “Erratic weather patterns, mounting scientific data, escalating political debate, and first-hand experience with environmental degradation combine to make climate change more of an immediate threat than people considered it to be just a decade ago.”

As a global authoritative trade show in textile industry, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics has been a platform for INVISTA to communicate with players across the value chain for 23 years. This year’s event will be no exception. The rich and vivid content delivered at the show will focus on INVISTA’s Innovative Attitude to consumers, partners as well as the whole industry.

To build a healthy and sustainable marketing environment, INVISTA cooperated with a number of media organisations to conduct a survey on IP protection in the textile industry. The results will be revealed during a seminar entitled ‘Innovation and IP: An Avenue for Sustainable Textile Industry Development’, which will be held on 11 October, 2:45 – 3:45pm in the Textile Dialogue area in hall 5.2. Representatives from textile industry associations, legal firms and INVISTA will share the findings and offer insights during what will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of INVISTA Rendez-Vous 2017.

Consolidated revenue increased by 11 percent from the first half of the previous financial year to EUR 1,149.1 mn. Consolidated earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) were up 38.8 percent to EUR 270.7 mn, corresponding to an EBITDA margin of 23.6 percent in comparison to 18.9 percent in the prior-year period. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) increased by 57.4 percent to EUR 204.2 mn, resulting in a higher EBIT margin of 17.8 percent (H1 2016: 12.5 percent). The profit for the period improved by 58.9 percent to EUR 150.3 mn, and earnings per share climbed 59 percent to EUR 5.55 per share.

“The first half-year developed very well for the Lenzing Group, and we are pleased with the best half-year period in the company’s history. We will continue our disciplined implementation of the sCore TEN strategy. The expansion of new state-of-the-art production capacities for our specialty fibers is proceeding well and will support our customers in their own expansion efforts for products made of our botanic fibers. The decision to set up a subsidiary and acquire a respective landplot in Thailand is the next step in the implementation of this strategy. On the innovation side we are proud that after the introduction of RefibraTM branded lyocell fibers, we launched now EcoVeroTM. This is a particularly high-performance fiber featuring a very favorable ecological footprint and sets the new benchmark for the entire industry – from fiber to garment”, states Stefan Doboczky, Chief Executive Officer of the Lenzing Group. “Assuming that fiber market conditions remain at current levels, we expect a substantial earnings improvement in 2017 compared to 2016.”

Outlook
The wood-based cellulose fiber segment, which is relevant for Lenzing, should again outpace the overall fiber market. The demand for these cellulose fibers was very good in the first half year of 2017, with the long-term trend pointing towards further growth in viscose and, above all, wood-based cellulose specialty fibers. On the supply side, the market is not expected to see the entry of any notable new production capacity in 2017.
The Lenzing Group had an excellent first half year 2017 and registered strong demand for its fibers during the first two quarters which, in turn, led to continued very high capacity utilization in all product groups. The market price index for viscose fibers was substantially higher than in the comparable prior year period. Under the assumption of unchanged conditions in the fiber market and stable exchange rates, Lenzing expects a considerable improvement in results in the fiscal year 2017 compared to 2016.
