2023 Outlook
AkzoNobel expects the ongoing macro-economic uncertainties to continue and weigh on organic volume growth. The company will focus on margin management, cost reduction, working capital normalization and de-leveraging.
Cost reduction programs are expected to partly mitigate higher than expected inflationary pressure on operating expenses for 2023. AkzoNobel expects declining raw material costs to have a favorable impact on profitability.
Based on current market conditions, AkzoNobel targets to deliver €1.40 to €1.55 billion adjusted EBITDA.
The company aims to lower its leverage ratio to less than 3.4 times net debt/EBITDA, including the impact of the Kansai Paint Africa acquisition, by the end of 2023 and return to around 2 times post-2023.

adidas: Preliminary second quarter results and full year guidance

adidas announced preliminary results for the second quarter of 2023. In Q2, currency-neutral revenues were flat versus the prior year level. In euro terms, the company’s revenues declined 5% to € 5.343 billion (2022: € 5.596 billion). The company’s gross margin was up 0.6 percentage points to 50.9% during the quarter (2022: 50.3%). Operating profit reached € 176 million in Q2 (2022: € 392 million), reflecting an operating margin of 3.3% (2022: 7.0%). The company’s top- and bottom-line development in the quarter was positively impacted by the first sale of some of its Yeezy inventory as announced at the end of May. In addition, the underlying adidas business also developed slightly better than expected.

Consequently, the company has updated its full year guidance. adidas now expects currency-neutral revenues to decline at a mid-single-digit rate in 2023 (previously: decline at a high-single-digit rate). At the same time, the company’s underlying operating profit – excluding any one-offs related to Yeezy and the ongoing strategic review – is still anticipated to be around the break-even level.

If successful, potential future Yeezy drops would further improve the company’s results.

SGL Carbon SE confirms full-year guidance 2023

According to preliminary figures for H1 2023, SGL Carbon's Group sales increased year-on-year from €549.8 million to €560.5 million, with EBITDApre1 almost unchanged at €88.0 million (H1 2022: €87.9 million). The expected good business performance of the Business Unit Graphite Solutions and the better-than-expected sales and earnings development of the segments Process Technology and Composite Solutions compensated the drop in demand in the Business Unit Carbon Fibers.

According to preliminary figures for H1 2023, SGL Carbon's Group sales increased year-on-year from €549.8 million to €560.5 million, with EBITDApre1 almost unchanged at €88.0 million (H1 2022: €87.9 million). The expected good business performance of the Business Unit Graphite Solutions and the better-than-expected sales and earnings development of the segments Process Technology and Composite Solutions compensated the drop in demand in the Business Unit Carbon Fibers.

Graphite Solutions (GS) increased sales by 15.3% year-on-year to €280.6 million and EBITDApre by 20.6% to €65.1 million. With a 30.9% rise in sales (€64.4 million) and a significant improvement in EBITDApre from €4.1 million to €11.9 million, the business performance of Process Technology (PT) was significantly ahead of the original budget. Composite Solutions (CS) also reported a higher-than-expected sales increase of 14.4% to €79.6 million in H1 2023 and an increase in EBITDApre of 26.8% to €12.3 million compared to H1 last year. By contrast, the business performance of the Carbon Fibers (CF) unit was not in line with expectations, with a 28.9% decline in sales to €125.1 million and an EBITDApre contribution of €6.1 million (-78.4% compared to the 1st half of the previous year).

An important market segment of the Carbon Fibers Business Unit is the wind industry. Demand for carbon fibers for the wind industry has declined sharply since the beginning of the year. According to current estimates, the expected recovery in demand in H2 2023 will not materialize for the time being. SGL Carbon expects customer demand from the wind industry to pick up in 2024.

Based on this, an impairment loss of between €40-50 million will be recognized on the assets of the Carbon Fibers Business Unit as of June 30, 2023. The impairment relates exclusively to Carbon Fibers, the operating business of the other Business Units is not affected.

SGL Carbon's equity ratio after the impairment as of June 30, 2023 is approximately 36% (December 31, 2022: 38.5%).

Italian Textile Machinery: 2nd Q 2023 Drop in Order Intake

During the second quarter of 2023, the orders index for textile machinery, as compiled by the Economics Department of ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, dropped significantly compared to 2022 April – June 2022 period (-30%). In absolute terms, the index stood at 85.1 points (basis 2015=100).

This drop is the result of a reduction in the collection of new orders recorded by manufacturers both domestically and on foreign markets. The decrease in orders in Italy amounted to 21%, whereas a 31% downtrend was observed abroad. The absolute value of the index on foreign markets settled at 81.9 points, while in Italy it stands at 117.2 points. New orders for the second quarter amounted to 4.1 months of guaranteed production. ACIMIT’s data also shows that the use of production capacity by Italian manufacturers was 70% for the first half of 2023. This percentage is expected to remain stable for the second half of the year.

ACIMIT president Marco Salvadè stated that, “The orders index for the second quarter elaborated by our Economics Department clearly shows a decline in new orders both in Italy and abroad compared to the previous year. The decline that usually precedes an event such as ITMA, the international textile machinery exhibition held last June in Milan, however, is part of a negative trend that has been going on for several quarters”.

Uncertainty appears to be weighing heavily especially on markets abroad, where foreign trade statistics updated to the first quarter of 2023 are marked by a slackening in Italian sales in some important reference markets, such as Turkey, China, the United States and Pakistan.

Salvadè added that, “Feedback from over 400 Italian companies that took part in ITMA is positive. It’s now necessary for the many contacts made during the event to materialize and for the demand for machinery in the main textile machinery markets to resume a path towards growth.”

Der Großteil der Testkäufer:innen ist mit dem Bestellprozess zufrieden. Oftmals ist die Möglichkeit zur Click & Collect-Bestellung aber erst spät, beispielsweise im Checkout-Prozess erkennbar. In puncto Kommunikation gibt es ebenfalls Nachholbedarf: Fehlende Angaben zur Lieferdauer und fehlende Benachrichtigungen zur Abholung sind hier ein großer Frustfaktor. Häufigster Grund für Unzufriedenheit beim Kauf ist der Bezahlvorgang. 30 Prozent wünschen sich an dieser Stelle eine größere Auswahl an Zahlungsmethoden oder beanstanden, dass gar nicht erst online gezahlt werden kann, sondern ausschließlich vor Ort in der Filiale. Mit dem Abholprozess sind wiederum die meisten der Testkäufer:innen zufrieden. Dennoch gibt es sowohl in der Filiale als auch im digitalen Prozess Reibungspunkte, die verbessert werden können. So sind fehlende Service-Points vor Ort oder fehlende Digitalisierung bei Übergabeprozessen negative Erfahrungswerte.

Ein großer Kostenfaktor im Fashion-Bereich sind Retouren. Hier schneiden die meisten Händler zufriedenstellend ab, könnten aber mit einheitlichen, digitalen Prozessen effizienter arbeiten.

Vereinfachen und optimieren schließen sich nicht aus
Kund:innenansprüche haben sich in den vergangenen Jahren und nicht zuletzt seit der Corona-Zeit stark erhöht. Bei der Vielzahl an Prozessen und Touchpoints im Click & Collect-Verfahren kann ein suboptimaler Schritt die Bewertung der gesamten Omnichannel-Erfahrung der Kund:innen negativ beeinflussen.

It enables Freudenberg to supply customers in the APAC region with Enka®Solutions made in China for building, industrial and civil engineering applications. Freudenberg now is also able to serve customers in diverse technical markets with finished and semi-finished products.

This investment in China will significantly increase Enka®Solutions production capacity and will play a fundamental role in the development of Enka business with customers in the APAC region. Freudenberg inaugurated the new line in Changzhou at an opening ceremony on July 13th.

Geburtstag feierte, die One-Stop-Sourcing-Plattform THE SOURCE und der Innovationshub KEYHOUSE haben wie geplant bereits am Mittwochabend ihre Türen für diese Saison geschlossen.

Aufgrund ihres in diesem Jahr erstmalig wesentlich früheren Sommertermins vergrößerte die MUNICH FABRIC START ihre Relevanz als Ort für frühen Trendresearch noch einmal. Neben den umfangreichen Trendinformationen für Autumn.Winter 2024/25 bot die Messe ein vielfältiges Vortragsprogramm mit Paneldiskussionen, inspirierenden Keynotes und Lectures. Rund 35 Programmpunkte und über 50 Speaker:innen sorgten für ein umfangreiches Edutainment-Erlebnis.

One-Stop-Innovation & One-Stop-Sourcing
Im KEYHOUSE – dem Innovations- und Nachhaltigkeitshub der MUNICH FABRIC START – drehte sich einmal mehr alles um technologischen und ökologischen Fortschritt. Die Sustainable Innovations als Sonderpräsentationsfläche für herausragende Neuentwicklungen an der Grenze zwischen Start-up und Skalierbarkeit waren dabei erneut einer der absoluten Besucher:innenmagneten der Messe. Ebenfalls drehte sich in der Halle 2 des MOC in der Re:Source Area alles um Nachhaltigkeit. Die Metaplattform für zertifiziert ökologisch und sozial produzierte Stoffe und Accessoires zeigt die grünen Lösungen der Messeaussteller seit über zehn Jahren gebündelt an einem Ort und ermöglicht Besucher:innen so ein gezieltes nachhaltiges Sourcing.

Zum zweiten Mal fand am 18. und 19. Juli die Show in Show THE SOURCE als integrierte Area der MUNICH FABRIC START statt und rundete das MFS-Ecosystem in Richtung des Apparel Manufacturings ab. Rund 60 ausgewählte Bekleidungshersteller zeigten in der Halle 8 des Dampfdoms in der Motorworld und damit unmittelbar angrenzend an das MOC und die Zenith-Area ihre Produkt- und Serviceleistungen.

Ausblick
In die nähere Zukunft blickend richtet die MUNICH FABRIC START ihren Fokus nun auf drei wichtige, bereits festgelegte Termine: Zunächst findet die reVIEW Autumn.Winter 24/25 am 13. und 14. September 2023 – und bespielt damit den bisherigen Zeitraum von MFS und BLUEZONE – erstmals in der Motorworld statt und bietet der Branche damit wie gewohnt einen späten Ordertermin in München. Nur zehn Wochen später wird am 28. und 29. November 2023 bereits die preVIEW stattfinden und damit eine erste Ordermöglichkeit für die Spring/Summer Kollektionen für 2025 anbieten. Anschließend versammelt sich die Branche erneut für die MUNICH FABRIC START und BLUEZONE vom 23. bis 25. Januar 2024.

‘Best of Bangladesh’ -- the first ever sole ‘Made in Bangladesh’ show in Europe -- aims to open the doors for Europe to experience what the Bangladeshi industries has to offer.

As Bangladesh celebrates five decades of strong ties with Europe, in order to further strengthen the ties and deepen collaborations with the partners across Europe, Bangladesh Apparel Exchange, supported by the Bangladesh Embassy in the Netherlands, is organizing the event in Amsterdam, Netherlands on September 4th and 5th, 2023.

The ‘Best of Bangladesh’ aims to serve as a dynamic platform to showcase the progress and potential across diverse sectors of Bangladesh economy, especially manufacturing.

A total of 40 Bangladeshi companies each of which is the country’s best from apparel, textile, leather, Agro, jute, handicrafts, pharmaceutical, light engineering, digital industry, FMCG and bicycle will showcase their sustainable and innovative products in the Best of Bangladesh.

Indorama Ventures and SMBC: Thailand’s first sustainability-linked Trade Finance facility

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) signed Thailand’s first sustainability-linked Trade Finance facility of US$50 million to support Indorama Ventures’ contributions to its ambitious sustainability commitment. This new facility reflects Indorama Ventures’ leadership in leveraging sustainable financing in Thailand.

The new facility is short-term working capital finance linked to the company’s sustainability performance targets, including reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 10% by 2025 (from a 2020 base), increasing post-consumer PET bale input for recycling to 750,000 tons by 2025, and boosting renewable electricity consumption to 25% by 2030.

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) signed Thailand’s first sustainability-linked Trade Finance facility of US$50 million to support Indorama Ventures’ contributions to its ambitious sustainability commitment. The new facility is short-term working capital finance linked to the company’s sustainability performance targets, including reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 10% by 2025 (from a 2020 base), increasing post-consumer PET bale input for recycling to 750,000 tons by 2025, and boosting renewable electricity consumption to 25% by 2030.

Indorama Ventures has secured a total US$2.4 billion in long-term sustainable financing from various national and international financial institutions between 2018–2022. The funds are supporting the company’s expansion and sustainability projects in line with its strategy under Vision 2030 as a purposeful company with ESG at its core.

Rieter in first Half of 2023: Increase in sales, decrease in orders

In the first half of 2023, Rieter recorded a significant increase in sales of 22.2% to CHF 758.2 million, despite some cancellations or postponements of deliveries as a result of the earthquake in Türkiye. Cyclical market downturns in the individual market segments, which were already apparent in the second half of 2022, led to an order intake of CHF 325.0 million (-62.6%) in the reporting period, lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Order intake in almost all regions was characterized by the reluctance to invest in new machines. Only in China did order intake increase due to investments by spinning mills in improving their local competitiveness. In addition, some customers held back pending investment decisions and waited for the innovations presented at ITMA in Milan in June 2023. At the same time, demand for consumables, wear & tear and spare parts declined due to the global market downturn.

On June 30, 2023, the company had a high order backlog of around CHF 1 100 million (June 30, 2022: around CHF 2 100 million). This therefore extends into the year 2024. As in the previous year, cancellations in the reporting period were around 5% of the order backlog, also impacted by the effects of the severe earthquake in Türkiye.

In the first half of 2023, Rieter posted a profit of CHF 25.2 million at the EBIT level, with an EBIT margin of 3.3% (first half of 2022: loss of CHF -10.2 million) and a net profit of CHF 13.3 million (first half of 2022: loss of CHF -25.2 million).

“Next Level” performance program planned
The challenging market situation over the past two years was marked by severe disruptions in the global supply chain in conjunction with rising material, energy, labor, and production costs. The current global demand for textile products remains at a low level. To increase long-term value for customers, employees, and shareholders, Rieter, as technology leader, is planning a performance program called “Next Level”. The goal of the program is to strengthen sales excellence, sharpen customer focus, improve cost efficiency in production and optimize fixed cost structures. The one-time cost of the program is anticipated to be around CHF 45 to 50 million, which will have an impact on the second half of 2023. Most of the program initiatives will be implemented before the end of 2023 with a view to achieving an expected impact from as early as 2024. With these measures Rieter is aiming to reduce operating costs by some CHF 80 million per year.

The program includes provisions for the net reduction of around 300 positions throughout the Group in relation to overhead functions. The possibility of further market- and volume-related adjustments in the order of 400 to 600 positions cannot be excluded. At the end of June 2023, Rieter had a global workforce of 5 555 employees.

Outlook
Given the economic situation and the ongoing cyclical market weakness, Rieter continues to expect below-average demand for new equipment in the coming months. A revival is not expected until the fourth quarter of 2023 at the earliest. Rieter also believes that demand for consumables, wear & tear and spare parts will not recover until later in 2023.

For the full year 2023, Rieter expects an EBIT margin of around 5 to 7% (including positive special effects of less than 2%) and sales at the previous year’s level of around CHF 1.5 billion.

Acht Studierende des Fachbereiches Textil- und Bekleidungstechnik der Hochschule Niederrhein folgen der Einladung der Textilmesse Munich Fabric Start (18. bis 20. Juli) in München. Dort stellen sie unter der Leitung von Anna Koch, Fachlehrerin für besondere Aufgaben im Textildesign, ihre Projekt- und Abschlussarbeiten aus.
 
Die Munich Fabric Start ist eine der führenden europäischen Textilmessen, auf der zweimal jährlich über 900 internationale Stoff- und Zutatenhersteller aus 43 Ländern ihre neuesten Entwicklungen und Innovationen in über 1100 Kollektionen vorstellen.
 
Im Bachelor-Studium Design-Ingenieur mit den Schwerpunkten Textil und Mode erhalten die Studierenden eine zukunftsgerechte und praxisnahe Ausbildung.   
„Es sind kontextbezogene, innovative und experimentelle Textilien, Muster und Outfits entstanden, die formulieren und Identitäten sichtbar machen“, sagt die Diplom-Designerin Anna Koch. Die Vielfalt der Arbeiten spiegelt die Diversität des Fachbereichs und der Textilindustrie wider. Neben preisgekrönten Kollektionen der Studierenden werden am Messestand auch die aktuellen Arbeiten vorgestellt:

  • Bachelorabsolventin Sonja Kreiterling hat sich in ihrer Abschlussarbeit intensiv mit dem Tabu-Thema Menstruation auseinandergesetzt und macht sich mit ihrer Mode-Kollektion „There‘s Blood“ mit experimentellen Textildesign für mehr Aufklärung stark.
  • „mimicry“ heißt die Bachelorarbeit von Max Glaubrecht. Er beschäftigt sich in seiner Arbeit mit der Ästhetik der Abnutzung und der Entstehung einer natürlichen Patina im Textildesign.
  • Naahal Sanatiger thematisiert in ihrer Projektarbeit „unIDENTIFIED“ aus dem Wahlpflichtkurs „Experimentelle Gestaltung“ die Frage nach der eigenen Herkunft und der Umsetzung dieser in textile Entwürfe.
  • Svenja Heidbüchel hat im Rahmen des Wahlpflichtkurses „Experimentelle Gestaltung“ die Kollektion „vicious circle“ entworfen. Die Kollektion weist auf das Artensterben von heimischen Schmetterlingen hin und verdeutlicht die Notwendigkeit eines bewussteren Umgangs mit der Natur.
  • Antonia Dannenberg weist mit ihrer mehrfach preisgekrönten alpinen Wintersportkollektion „MELT DOWN“ auf die Gletscherschmelze hin.
  • Franziska Jauch entwickelte in ihrer Bachelorarbeit „un//used“ nachhaltige, innovative Lösungen und alternative Konzepte für die Denim-Industrie unter Einbeziehung der norwegischen Philosophie Friluftsliv, ein Modell für eine naturnahe Lebensweise.
  • Nadine Gottwald beschäftigte sich in ihrer Bachelorarbeit „to appear as we please“ mit der Vielfalt an gelebten Geschlechteridentitäten und der Entwicklung einer experimentellen Formfindung für abstrakte Textildesign-Entwürfe, um den Facettenreichtum des Geschlechterspektrums zu symbolisieren.
  • Sarah Oefner stellt Ausarbeitungen aus ihrem Studium unter dem Motto „spring awakening“ vor und zeigt die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten der textilen Umsetzung in den Hochschullaboren.

Ein Großteil der studentischen Arbeiten wurde von der Firma Kornit Digital in ihrer Düsseldorfer Niederlassung unterstützt.

Der Landes-Accelerator „Stoff im Kopf“ wird auch in Zukunft vom Land Baden-Württemberg gefördert. Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Ministerin für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Tourismus, überreichte Edina Brenner, Hauptgeschäftsführerin des Wirtschafts- und Arbeitgeberverbands Südwesttextil, auf der Startup-BW Night in Mannheim am Donnerstag, den 13. Juli 2023, den Förderbescheid. Das Land fördert das Programm bis Ende 2024 mit 190.000 Euro im Rahmen der Landeskampagne Startup BW.

Bislang haben über 100 Teams an dem Programm teilgenommen. Der Frauenanteil ist hier überdurchschnittlich hoch. Die Gründungsthemen reichen von nachhaltigen Modelabels, über KI-Lösungen, z.B. um die Nähte zu analysieren, bis zu wiederverwendbaren Windeln, kooperativen Projekten mit Handarbeiterinnen in Peru oder Greifrobotern für Textilproduzenten.

Hauptgeschäftsführerin Edina Brenner, Südwesttextil e.V., freut sich über die Förderzusage: „Junge Gründerinnen und Gründer bringen wichtige Impulse für die Textilindustrie. Für Südwesttextil ist es ein wichtiges Anliegen, hier Unterstützung zu bieten und zum Aufbau wichtiger Netzwerke beizutragen.“

Die Hochschule Reutlingen führt das Programm bereits seit 2019 durch. Nach der Eröffnung des von Südwesttextil gespendeten Neubaus „Texoversum“ auf dem Campus der Hochschule Reutlingen Anfang Juli wird die Partnerschaft mit dem nun gemeinsamen Programm „Stoff im Kopf“ weiter ausgebaut und intensiviert.

Ada Hefetz, an Israel-based wedding dress designer, has introduced a new attention-grabbing collection with intricate, showstopping elements produced using Stratasys’ advanced direct-to-textile 3D printing technology. Showcased recently at Milan Design Week, the three unique dresses are based on Hefetz’s Flower of Life theme and were produced using Stratasys’ 3DFashion™ technology as part of her latest series celebrating matrimonial union, the circle of life, and design.

The intricate pattern is composed of overlapping circles that intersect to form flowers, which Ada Hefetz has combined with her design of a lily to symbolize the union between two individuals and the circle of life. The inspiring design uses Stratasys’ translucent VeroVivid™ resin material with Stratasys’ J850™ TechStyle™ 3D printer, which can be printed in over 500,000 unique colors with varying levels of flexibility, simulating different textures and finishes.

Ada Hefetz’s Flower of Life-themed 3D printed wedding dresses are currently on display at Milan’s D-House Urban Laboratory, which is owned and managed by Dyloan, the leading Italian manufacturer serving the high-end fashion sector.

Archroma is bringing the entire portfolio of 5,760 Archroma Color Atlas colors to swatchbook, a platform for material digitalization and sourcing.

Designers will use the 5,760 Archroma Color Atlas colors on swatchbook to rapidly develop accurate digital colorways and visualize their final product. Archroma is bringing the entire portfolio of 5,760 Archroma Color Atlas colors to swatchbook, a platform for material digitalization and sourcing.

The new partnership provides fashion, apparel and textile designers and manufacturers with an elevated standard for color accuracy that meets the needs of today’s increasingly technology-driven and integrated supply chain. This will help the textile and fashion community to improve sustainability, whilst lowering costs and shortening turnaround times.

The Color Atlas by Archroma® was launched in 2016 to provide fashion designers and stylists with off-the-shelf color inspiration that can be implemented in production with just a few clicks.

Designers will use the 5,760 Archroma Color Atlas colors on swatchbook to rapidly develop accurate digital colorways and visualize their final product. They can then share these digital swatches with their manufacturing partners, providing access to the swatchbook metadata, which can include information such as the materials’ composition, weight and color.

This will streamline the overall design and production process for color-critical fashion and textile products, allowing for faster turnaround. Digital materials supported by trusted coloration technology also reduce the need for samples and eliminate physical swatchbooks, bringing environmental benefits and lower costs to brands and suppliers.

All 5,760 Color Atlas by Archroma® colors are now available free of charge to subscribers on the swatchbook platform.

Marco Salvadè appointed new ACIMIT President

At the association’s General Assembly held on July 4th, Marco Salvadè has been appointed to replace Alessandro Zucchi as President of ACIMIT.

Marco Salvadè began his career at Salvadè Srl, the family company specializing in the finishing machinery sector, founded by his father and uncle in 1967. After being a member of the company’s board of directors, he has been President since 2021.

Following the election of Salvadè, the General Assembly expressed its gratitude to the outgoing president, Alessandro Zucchi, who has guided the association for the past six years.

At the association’s General Assembly held on July 4th, Marco Salvadè has been appointed to replace Alessandro Zucchi as President of ACIMIT.

Following the election of Salvadè, the General Assembly expressed its gratitude to the outgoing president, Alessandro Zucchi, who has guided the association for the past six years.

Along with the new president, the General Assembly also elected its new Vice Presidents, Chiara Bonino (Bonino Carding Machines SRL), Federico Businaro (Sperotto Rimar SRL), Ugo Ghilardi (Itema SpA) and Cristian Locatelli (Marzoli Machines Textile SRL). Marco Salvadè’s first comments as newly appointed ACIMIT president: “I wish to thank the Assembly for the trust they have placed in me, and I want to express my gratitude to the former President Alessandro Zucchi for everything he has done during the last six years to strengthen the role of the association and of Italian industry on the international scene. With the new vice-presidents and the ACIMIT Board, I will continue the work that has been done in recent years by previous presidents. It will certainly not be a simple task, but one that will no doubt prove stimulating. My primary goal is to increase the sense of belonging to ACIMIT of its member companies, with which we share the same values, and to adjust the association’s strategies to changing conditions in the economic and geopolitical context.”

STOLL launches a new innovation package

ITMA 2023 was a successful platform for the flat knitting machine manufacturer STOLL to present its latest new developments. The business unit of the KARL MAYER GROUP will be following up this fair on 3 July with the launch of a further innovation package. With the solutions contained in this package, STOLL will be offering its customers additional added value when using their flat knitting machines - in line with the concept of bundling innovations.

With the solutions contained in this package, STOLL will be offering its customers additional added value when using their flat knitting machines - in line with the concept of bundling innovations.

The new features include an optimised central lubrication system that reduces both maintenance effort and oil consumption, this as standard from July 2023 for all models of the CMS and ADF series produced in Reutlingen.
Compared to the previous optional variant, it ensures more efficient and comprehensive lubrication. All needle bed elements, from the holding-down jack to the coupling part and intermediate slider to the selection jack, are now supplied with oil. The machine itself recognises whether lubrication is required. Independently of this, the lubrication intensity and oil distribution can be adapted to the individual machine conditions by setting various parameters, if required. To ensure that the required amount of lubricant is reliably supplied, a message is sent if the level is too low.

In addition, a new oil drain container as standard equipment for all CMS and ADF models catches used oil from the needle bed under the machine. This prevents soiling of floors or knitted fabrics. The emptying of the container can be efficiently managed by an adjustable reminder function. The neat and at the same time sustainable solution does not require cleaning agents or hoovers and offers the possibility to reuse the oil after cleaning through special filters, if necessary.

Users of CMS and ADF belt take-down machines can benefit from optimisations around the belt take-down. Thanks to the new STOLL innovation package, this can be turned forwards and backwards by means of a switch as standard in order to easily eliminate fabric wraps and thus reduce maintenance times. In addition, a mirror, which is also fitted as standard, ensures a simple visual check of the belt take-down.

Another solution of the STOLL innovation package from July 2023 includes new cams that enable split-stitch implementation without cam box modification. This reduces manual effort and thus conversion times and costs. The feature is standard on all fine gauges ADF and CMS machines.

For the W machines from STOLL, there is now a further inlay yarn carrier, the Qt, in addition to the previous Qw yarn carrier. The extension means that the number of inlay yarn carriers used in a system can be increased from the previous one to three. No additional system is required for the weft yarn, and the process steps weft yarn insertion and knitting take place in the same system.
