Fraunhofer CCPE: Technische Produktinnovationen für eine zirkuläre Kunststoffwirtschaft

Ziel des Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy CCPE ist es, die Wertschöpfungskette Kunststoff zirkulär zu gestalten. Sechs Fraunhofer-Institute erforschen am Beispiel Kunststoff, wie der Wandel von einer linearen zur einer zirkulären Kunststoffwirtschaft gelingen kann. Auf der ACHEMA in Frankfurt, der internationalen Messe für die Prozessindustrie, stellt das Fraunhofer CCPE vom 22. bis zum 26. August zwei technische Produktinnovationen und ein Bewertungstool für Unternehmen der Circular Economy vor.

Seit 2018 erforschen die sechs Fraunhofer-Institute — IAP, ICT, IML, LBF, IVV und UMSICHT – wie eine nachhaltige Transformation einer gesamten Wertschöpfungskette unter Prinzipien der Circular Economy erfolgen kann. Durch einen Multi-Stakeholder-Ansatz können FuE-Kompetenzen gebündelt werden, um Produkte zirkulär zu gestalten, passende Geschäftsmodelle zu entwickeln und End-of-Life Verluste bei Kunststoffabfällen zu reduzieren.   • Faserverstärktes Monomaterialkomposit aus PLA
    Biobasierte Kunststoffe werden zunehmend für technisch anspruchsvolle Einsatzbereiche z.B. in der Automobil- und Textilindustrie nachgefragt. Zwei zentrale Anforderungen sind dabei ihre Stabilität und ihre Recyclingfähigkeit. Forschende der Fraunhofer-Institute IAP und ICT entwickelten innovative PLA-basierte Monomaterial-Komposite (Organobleche), die technische Applikationen adressieren und insbesondere mit Hinblick auf die Rezyklisierbarkeit einen Beitrag zur Umsetzung der Sustainable Development Goals der UN leisten können.
  • Optisch und mechanisch verbesserte Folienrezyklate
    Bei der Herstellung von Folien zählt neben den mechanischen Eigenschaften besonders der visuelle Eindruck. Es dürfen keine Fehlstellen in Form von Stippen, Fischaugen oder Abrissen auftreten, die insbesondere bei Verwendung von Rezyklaten zu Problemen führen können. Die direkte Verwendung eines Folienregranulats führt jedoch häufig zu vielen Abrissen während der Folienherstellung, die zudem fatale Auswirkungen auf die mechanischen Materialeigenschaften haben. Durch die Zugabe einer geeigneten Additivformulierung konnte die Folienqualität nun signifikant verbessert werden.

Ist ein Produkt reif für die Circular Economy?
Weiterhin präsentieren die Forschenden nun auf der ACHEMA das webbasierte Tool CRL®, mit dem Unternehmen den Reifegrad von Produkten oder Produktsystemen im Hinblick auf die Circular Economy selbst bewerten können. Es prüft, inwieweit ein Produkt die Strategien der Kreislaufwirtschaft in den Bereichen Produktdesign, Produktdienstleistungssystem, End-of-Life-Management und Kreislaufwirtschaft bereits berücksichtigt und wo noch Verbesserungspotenzial besteht.

To facilitate analysis of the Group’s results, the financial statements are compared to those published in 2021 and to the 2021 pro forma financial statement ("2021 Pro forma"), prepared by integrating the three acquisitions made in 2021 – Gerber Technology (“Gerber”), Neteven, and Gemini CAD Systems (“Gemini”) – as if they had been consolidated from January 1, 2021, whereas they have been consolidated since June 1, July 28 and September 27, 2021 respectively.

McKinsey Studie: Aus 20% des Textilabfalls könnte neue Kleidung werden

Mehr als 15 Kilogramm Textilmüll produziert jeder Mensch in Europa im Durchschnitt pro Jahr, 2030 könnten es bereits über 20 Kilogramm pro Kopf sein. Der größte Anteil (85%) des Abfalls wird durch die privaten Haushalte verursacht: aus ihrer Kleidung und Heimtextilien. „Dabei könnten, wenn das volle technische Recyclingpotenzial genutzt und mehr Textilien gesammelt würden, bereits im Jahr 2030 zwischen 18 und 26 Prozent des Textilmülls für die Herstellung von neuen Kleidungsstücken wiederverwertet werden“, sagt Karl-Hendrik Magnus, Senior Partner und Leiter der Modeindustrieberatung bei McKinsey in Deutschland. „Ein skaliertes Textilrecycling würde nicht nur vier Millionen Tonnen CO2 einsparen, sondern auch einen profitablen Wirtschaftszweig mit 15.000 Jobs in Europa schaffen.“ Das sind Ergebnisse der Studie „Scaling textile recycling in Europe – turning waste into value“ von McKinsey & Company, für die Szenarien berechnet wurden, wie sich das Textilmüllvolumen sowie Sammel- und Recyclingraten bis 2030 entwickeln können.

Höhere Sammelrate von Kleidung entscheidend für mehr Recycling
Derzeit wird etwa ein Drittel der benutzten Kleidung gesammelt und wiederverwendet: entweder als Second-Hand-Mode, als grob recyceltes Textilprodukt wie Lappen und weniger als 1% als recycelte Textilfasern für neue Mode. Diese Sammelrate könnte bis 2030 auf 50-80% gesteigert werden. Entsprechend könnte auch die Kreislaufwirtschaft, die aus Textilabfall neue Fasern für Mode produziert, auf 18-26% skaliert werden. Heute ist es weniger als 1%. „Dieses so genannte Fiber-to-fiber-Recycling, bei dem aus Textilfasern neue Fasern für Mode hergestellt werden, stellt die nachhaltigste Möglichkeit dar, um aus Müll etwas Neues mit Wert zu generieren“, erklärt Jonatan Janmark, Co-Autor der Studie und Partner im Stockholmer Büro von McKinsey. Gleichzeitig bietet diese Kreislaufwirtschaft enormes finanzielles Potenzial mit sechs bis acht Milliarden Euro Umsatz als Marktgröße und möglichen jährlichen Renditen von 20-25% für die Recyclingindustrie.

Möglich wird diese Entwicklung hin zur Kreislaufwirtschaft durch neue Technologien, wie mechanisches Recycling von Baumwolle, das bereits recht etabliert ist, die innovative Verarbeitung zu Viskosefasern sowie chemisches Recycling für die Wiederverwertung von Polyester, was aktuell im Teststadium ist. Allerdings steht das Sammeln und die Aufbereitung der Altbekleidung und -textilien durch fragmentierte, kleinteilige Strukturen und noch meist manuelle Arbeitsvorgänge immer noch vor großen Herausforderungen.  Kleidungsabfälle müssen nach Qualitätskriterien sortiert, Knöpfe und Reißverschlüsse entfernt und Faserzusammensetzungen eindeutig identifiziert werden. Viele Produkte aus Mischfasern stellen noch ein ungelöstes Problem für Fiber-to-fiber-Recycling dar.

Investitionen für Skalierung nötig
Um das volle Potenzial des Textilrecyclings nutzen zu können, werden insgesamt etwa 6-7 Milliarden Euro an Investitionen bis 2030 benötigt, die in der gesamten Wertschöpfungskette wie beim Sammeln, Sortieren und dem Aufbau von Recyclingfabriken gebraucht werden. „Die Investition ins Fiber-to-fiber-Recycling lohnt sich nicht nur aus Nachhaltigkeitsgründen. Es können beim Recycling neue Rohmaterialien entstehen, die mehr Modeproduktion in Europa ermöglichen würden. Dadurch könnte diese Recyclingindustrie sogar noch mehr Wert generieren“, sagt Jonatan Janmark.

Dibella setzt auf Solarenergie

Dibella ist in einer sonnigen Region ansässig. Dort wird im Jahresdurchschnitt eine Sonnenscheindauer von ungefähr vier Stunden pro Tag gemeldet. Diese Energiequelle macht sich das Unternehmen zunutze: Auf der gesamten Dachfläche des im Jahr 2007 errichteten und im Jahr 2013 erweiterten Firmengebäudes wurde eine Solaranlage mit einer Nennleistung von ca. 13 Kilowatt-Peak (kWp) 2 installiert. Sie erzeugt den Strom für die Beheizung des gesamten Bauwerks. Seit ihrer Inbetriebnahme haben die 53 polykristallinen Solarmodule jährlich eine Energiemenge von etwa 11 MWh geliefert, in Jahren mit besonders guten Sommern sogar 13 MWh. Im Jahr 2020 gab es einen Ausreißer aufgrund eines Software-Defekts, so fehlte die Energie-Erzeugermenge von rund einem Dreivierteljahr.

Die Solaranlage produziert einen umweltfreundlichen, kostengünstigen Strom“, berichtet Ralf Hellmann, Geschäftsführer von Dibella. „Gerade in den vergangenen Monaten hat sich gezeigt, wie richtig der damalige Entschluss für eine umweltfreundliche Wärmeerzeugung war: Wir sind von fossilen Brennstoffen und deren unberechenbaren Preisen und Verfügbarkeiten unabhängig. Die Investition in eine teurere, aber nachhaltige Technologie hat sich damit (wieder einmal) ausgezahlt.“

Autoneum: Half Year Results 2022

Lower volumes due to geopolitical developments and the sharp rise in inflation impacted the result in the first half of 2022. In a slightly declining market, Autoneum increased revenue in local currencies by 0.5%. At CHF 888.7 million, revenue in Swiss francs reached the previous year's level. Despite the challenging environment, Autoneum achieved a positive operating result of CHF 6.4 million (EBIT margin: 0.7%). The net result decreased to CHF –12.8 million. On the other hand, Autoneum was able to generate a solid free cash flow of CHF 45.2 million. A high demand for sustainable products for electric vehicles confirms that Autoneum is well positioned for this growing market of the future.

Current geopolitical developments substantially affected business performance in the first half of 2022. They are accompanied by accelerating inflation and significant price increases in the commodities markets, which the war in Ukraine has further exacerbated. These developments are also delaying market recovery in the automotive industry. Autoneum does everything it can to minimize the impact on the Group. Despite the present challenges, we will continue to implement our strategy, focusing on innovative and sustainable technologies for growing markets of the future.

Outlook
According to global market forecasts1, automobile production will pick up again in the second half of the year with growth of 8.8% compared with the first half-year 2022. For full-year 2022, global automobile production is projected to reach 80.8 million vehicles, which is equivalent to a 4.7% increase on 2021. Based on the market forecasts, Autoneum expects to improve the operating result for the second half of the year. This will be supported by ongoing customer negotiations with a view to fair sharing of costs, the accompanying contribution of vehicle manufacturers to shouldering the sharp increases in material, energy and transport costs and the foreseeable normalization of production after the easing of lockdown measures in China. On this basis, Autoneum expects substantially enhanced results for full-year 2022, as well as an improvement in the EBIT margin to 2.0% to 3.0%. Free cash flow is expected to be in the mid to high double-digit million range for the full year 2022.

adidas adjusts outlook for 2022: Declining revenues in Greater China expected

adidas is adjusting its outlook for the financial year 2022. While second quarter results were somewhat ahead of expectations reflecting continued strong momentum in Western markets and a return to growth in Asia-Pacific, the company has been experiencing a slower-than-expected recovery in its business in Greater China since the start of the third quarter. Previously, the company had assumed that in absence of any major lockdowns as of Q3, currency-neutral revenues in the region would be flat during the second half of the year versus the prior year level. However, given the continued widespread covid-19-related restrictions, adidas now expects revenues in Greater China to decline at a double-digit rate during the remainder of the year.

As a result, adidas now expects currency-neutral revenues for the total company to grow at a mid- to high-single-digit rate in 2022 (previously: at the lower end of the 11% – 13% range). Because of the less favorable market mix due to lower-than-expected revenues in Greater China as well as the impact from initiatives to clear excess inventories in this market until the end of the year, the company’s gross margin is now expected to be around 49.0% in 2022 (previously: around 50.7%). Consequently, the company’s operating margin is now forecasted to be around 7.0% in 2022 (previously: around 9.4%) and net income from continuing operations is expected to reach a level of around € 1.3 billion (previously: at the lower end of the € 1.8 billion – € 1.9 billion range).

So far, the company did not experience a meaningful slowdown in the sell-through of its products or significant cancellations of wholesale orders in any other market. Nevertheless, the adjusted guidance also accounts for a potential slowdown of consumer spending in these markets during the second half of the year as a result of the more challenging macroeconomic conditions.

Despite these headwinds, adidas continues to expect double-digit revenue growth during the second half of the year for the total company. In addition to easier prior year comparables, the acceleration will be driven by adidas’ strong product pipeline, the restocking opportunity with its wholesale customers given unconstrained supply as well as the support from major sporting events.

Based on preliminary numbers, adidas’ currency-neutral revenues grew 4% during the second quarter. The company’s gross margin declined 1.5 percentage points to a level of 50.3% and operating margin reached 7.0% during the second quarter (2021: 10.7%). Net income from continuing operations was € 360 million in Q2 (2021: € 387 million) supported by a one-time tax benefit of more than € 100 million due to the reversal of a prior year provision.

Die Gestaltung der 200 m² großen Ausstellungsfläche wurde vom Architektenbüro Schwitzke & Partner konzipiert. Die Umbaumaßnahmen betreute die Schwesterfirma, der Generalübernehmer Schwitzke Project.

Nicht nur die Individualität der Ware spielt heutzutage im Modebusiness eine Rolle, sondern auch der Ort, an dem die Ware präsentiert wird – er soll den Markenkern widerspiegeln und ein Erlebnis bieten. Geschäftsführer Moritz Schwack sieht sich als Gastgeber im neuen Showroom von SWING, der als Treffpunkt für Einkäuferinnen und Einkäufer dient. EKDP-Förderprogramm für energieintensive Industrie gestartet

Die Europäische Kommission hat die vierte Säule des Maßnahmenpakets der Bundesregierung für Unternehmen genehmigt, die besonders von den Folgen des russischen Angriffskriegs auf die Ukraine betroffen sind, und startet damit das Energiekostendämpfungsprogramm für energieintensive Industrien. Laut Anlage A des Merkblatts gehören zu den Wirtschaftszweigen mit einem erheblichen Risiko verschiedene Bereiche der Textilindustrie, wie Spinnerei, Weberei, Veredlung, Herstellung von Vliesstoffen, Technische Textilien und Chemiefasern.

Der russische Angriffskrieg auf die Ukraine hat spürbare Auswirkungen auch auf deutsche Unternehmen. Stark gestiegene Energiepreise stellen für viele Unternehmen eine Belastung dar. Das Bundeswirtschafts- und Klimaschutzministerium und das Bundesfinanzministerium haben daher am 8. April 2022 ein Maßnahmenpaket für die von Kriegsfolgen besonders betroffenen Unternehmen vorgelegt. Dieses Maßnahmenpaket umfasst mehrere Komponenten, die Schritt für Schritt umgesetzt werden. Nachdem Ende April bzw. Anfang Mai bereits das KfW-Kreditprogramm eingeführt und die Bund-Länder- Bürgschaftsprogramme erweitert worden sind und seit dem 17. Juni 2022 auch das Margining-Absicherungsinstrument bereitsteht, startet nun die vierte Säule des Pakets, das Energiekostendämpfungsprogramm für energieintensive Industrien.

Antragsberechtigte energie- und handelsintensive Unternehmen können hiernach einen Zuschuss zu ihren gestiegenen Erdgas- und Stromkosten von bis zu 50 Millionen Euro erhalten, der in drei Stufen im Zeitraum Februar bis September 2022 gezahlt wird. Das Hilfsprogramm hat ein geplantes Volumen von insgesamt bis zu 5 Milliarden Euro.

Das Programm dient der Kostendämpfung des Erdgas- und Strompreisanstiegs für besonders betroffene energie- und handelsintensive Unternehmen.

CleanKore patented technology changes the chemistry and the process used to dyeing yarns at the denim mills by keeping intact the white core of the yarn and only dyeing the surface. This technology significantly reduces water, chemicals and process time in the denim garment finishing stage.

The partnership will aim at eliminating hazardous Potassium Permanganate Spray and most manual processes in denim finishing, while reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions, water and chemical use in the process

Hong Kong based Epic Group, a leading garment manufacturer for global brands today announced its strategic partnership with CleanKore, a denim innovation and patent licensing company. This partnership aims at scaling the CleanKore patented yarn dyeing technology that provides numerous sustainability benefits for both the denim mill and garment manufacturer.

CleanKore patented technology changes the chemistry and the process used to dyeing yarns at the denim mills by keeping intact the white core of the yarn and only dyeing the surface. This technology significantly reduces water, chemicals and process time in the denim garment finishing stage.

Denim garment finishing often involves onerous manual processes such as handsanding and hand whiskering, spraying of harmful Potassium Permanganate (PP) (done by heavily protective equipment donned personnel), and multiple washing cycles. CleanKore technology coupled with lasers enable elimination of the PP spray process, significantly improving health and wellbeing of apparel workers, as well as emissions of harmful chemicals. Manual processes are eliminated in most styles and significantly reduced in others.

CleanKore technology also enables the reduction of wash cycles – reducing water, chemical use and process time, adding to the sustainability credentials of the end products. The products currently tested by Epic Group and CleanKore demonstrate up to 44% of water savings in garment finishing and up to 60% of energy savings in the fabric dyeing stage, along with the elimination of PP spray.

Through their partnership, Epic Group and CleanKore are planning to rapidly scale up the adoption of this technology in partnership with Epic Group’s customer base. In the first year, the partnership plans to reach over 4 million pairs of denim and working towards a scale of 15 - 20 million pairs of denim per annum in the next 3 years, converting a large portion of Epic Group’s denim production to CleanKore technology.
