The Supervisory Board of adidas AG resolved upon the succession for adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted. Effective January 1, 2023, Bjørn Gulden is appointed as member of the Executive Board and CEO of adidas AG. Kasper Rorsted and the Supervisory Board mutually agreed that he will step down as CEO and leave the company upon expiry of November 11, 2022. Harm Ohlmeyer, Chief Financial Officer of adidas AG, will lead the company in the interim until December 31, 2022. The Supervisory Board had announced a CEO transition on August 22, 2022.

Bjørn Gulden is 57 years old, Norwegian and has been CEO of Puma SE since 2013. Bjørn Gulden looks back at a tenure at adidas as, amongst others, Senior Vice President of Apparel and Accessories from 1992 to 1999. Additionally, he was CEO of Danish jewelry brand Pandora, Managing Director of footwear retailer Deichmann, President of Rack Room Shoes, and held various management positions at outdoor apparel company Helly Hansen. He also holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Salling Group, Denmark’s largest food retailer.

The Supervisory Board of Lenzing AG, a world-leading provider of sustainably produced specialty fibers for the textile and nonwoven industries, has appointed Nico Reiner as its new Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Reiner will join Lenzing’s Managing Board led by Chief Executive Officer Stephan Sielaff on January 1, 2023. He will succeed Chief Financial Officer Thomas Obendrauf, who is leaving the company of his own volition after seven years.

Nico Reiner has held several positions in his professional career to date, including CFO at globally operating companies such as Schüco Group, AL-KO Group and Pfleiderer Group, as well as management consultant roles. His most recent appointment was as CFO of Vacuumschmelze GmbH & Co. KG, a global player with headquarters in Hanau that specializes in the development, production and marketing of magnetic materials.

Die Master-Studentin Joline Kaumanns am Fachbereich Textil- und Bekleidungstechnik der Hochschule Niederrhein hat den Materialica Award 2022 in der Kategorie „Student“ gewonnen. Ihre Arbeit „S-Polarskin - Abundance of Light – Impulses of Sustainable Lightning“ wurde für das herausragende Design und die hohe Technologiekompetenz auf der eMove 360°-Messe in Berlin ausgezeichnet. Begleitet wurde die Arbeit von Professorin Marina-Elena Wachs.

Abundance of Light bedeutet Lichtfülle und impliziert damit differenzierte, sich ergänzende Materialeigenschaften. Materialien, wie Wolle, Papiergarn und recyceltes Zellophan werden unter dem Aspekt der Nachhaltigkeit verwendet. Diese Komponenten sind in einem Gewebe- und Gestrick-Gefüge als Sandwich-Material miteinander auf innovative Art verbunden. Die einzelnen Teile der Fläche greifen visuell ineinander.

Die locker gestrickte Ab-Seite verleiht dem Material eine voluminöse Haptik und sorgt für Lufteinschlüsse. Durch Lanolin ist es besonders wasserabweisend und erhält mit Dill, dem schwedischen Nationalgewürz, weitere multisinnliche Eigenschaften. Vorausgegangen war eine Forschungsstudie zu interkulturellen Design-Einflüssen aus Schweden.

Das Material lässt sich multifunktional und nachhaltigkeitsorientiert dem natürlichen Kreislauf zurückführen. Das Design – und die Designerin – hat den Anspruch an eine holistisch nachhaltige Lösung und wird sowohl für die Anwendung im Fashion als auch im Automotive Interior Design weitergedacht.

Der Materialica-Award wird im Rahmen der Messe eMove360° Europe vergeben. Sie ist die weltweit größte Fachmesse für die Mobilität 4.0. Die eMove360° Europe präsentiert die komplette Bandbreite zukunftsorientierter und nachhaltiger Mobilitätslösungen, von urbanem & mobilem Design, Material und Prozesslösungen, über automatisiertes Fahren und Elektronik bis hin zu Infotainment.

Carbios announced the appointment of Pascal Bricout as Chief Strategy and Financial Officer and a member of the Company’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Bricout will oversee the management and organization of Carbios’ Finance division. He will also steer the Group’s Strategy, investor relations and the launch of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy. He joins the company with over 30 years’ experience in finance, strategy and international mergers and acquisitions.
 
Prior to joining Carbios, Mr. Bricout served as Chief Financial Officer for Michelin in Asia, which is a major area of growth and development for the company. Over the past 10 years, he has focused primarily on major strategic mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Bricout holds a Master Degree in Finance from Université Paris-Dauphine. He began his career at PwC, as a manager in the International Transactions Services teams in Paris and London.

Mr. Bricout, Carbios’ Chief Strategy & Financial Officer noted: “I am thrilled to be joining Carbios and proud to take part in this concrete, meaningful advance toward circular economy. INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, is mourning the loss of Walter “Walt” G. Jones, Chief Executive Officer, Precision Fabrics Group, Inc., of Greensboro, NC, who passed away Sept. 22.

He is being remembered fondly by the association for his strong contributions as a leader, mentor, and advocate for the nonwoven industry. INDA, in particular, benefited from Jones’ vast industry and business knowledge as an INDA Executive Committee Appointee for over 20 years. Jones started his career at Burlington Industries in 1977 and was named president and CEO, in 1999 of Precision Fabrics Group Inc., a spin-off of Burlington Industries. Jones was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Wharton School of Finance.

“INDA is saddened by the loss of a true industry leader who devoted his career to advancing the nonwoven & engineered material industry,” said INDA President Tony Fragnito. “Walt Jones will be missed by all of us at INDA and by the many professionals whose careers and businesses were positively impacted by his expertise. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family.”

Die Textilmessen Heimtextil, Techtextil und Texprocess der Messe Frankfurt starten zukünftig unter neuer Leitung. Bettina Bär verantwortet ab dem 15. September 2022 die Leitung des Segments Heimtextilien der Heimtextil. Meike Kern ist in der Doppelspitze der internationalen Messe für Wohn- und Objekttextilien weiterhin für das Segment Haustextilien zuständig. Bettina Bär folgt auf Sabine Scharrer, die künftig die Position als Show Director der internationalen Leitmessen Techtextil und Texprocess und das Brandmanagement übernimmt. Sie folgt damit auf Michael Jänecke, der nach über 30 Jahren bei der Messe Frankfurt am 1. Januar 2023 in den Ruhestand geht. Seit 1992 leitete er die Techtextil, 2013 übernahm er zusätzlich die Funktion als Show Director der Texprocess.

Die Leitmessen für technische Textilien und Vliesstoffe sowie für die Verarbeitung von textilen und flexiblen Materialien, Techtextil und Texprocess, stehen ab dem 1. Januar 2023 unter Leitung von Sabine Scharrer. Seit 1996 ist Sabine Scharrer bei der Messe Frankfurt und arbeitete unter anderem für die technischen Auslandsmessen des Unternehmens sowie als Leitung von Konsumgütermessen, darunter die Ambiente. In ihrer neuen Rolle als Leitung der Techtextil und Texprocess möchte sie die Leitmessen in Zusammenarbeit mit den Branchenpartnern weiter international ausbauen und dabei die weltweiten Synergien der Brandveranstaltungen der Messe Frankfurt im Bereich Technical Textiles und Textile Technology heben.

Bettina Bär übernimmt ab dem 15. September die Leitung des Segments Heimtextilien der Heimtextil. Bettina Bär ist seit 2012 bei der Messe Frankfurt. In dieser Zeit fungierte sie unter anderem als Show Director im Segment der Konsumgütermessen sowie zuletzt als Show Director der Neonyt; die Messe für Mode, Nachhaltigkeit und Innovationen. Zukünftig möchte sie die Heimtextil mit neuen Ideen voranbringen, relevante Marktsegmente, darunter der Bereich Interior, Architecture und Hospitality, stärken und nachhaltige Lösungen fördern.

Ulrich Reifenhäuser, CSO of the Reifenhäuser Group, was awarded the prestigious Georg Menges Prize 2022 at the 31st International Colloquium on Plastics Technology in Aachen from September 7-8, 2022. The prize recognizes individuals or groups who have rendered outstanding services to the transfer of research results into industrial practice. The sponsors of the award are the Plastics and Rubber section of Germany's Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA), together with PlasticsEurope Deutschland and the Association of Sponsors of the Institute for Plastics Processing (IKV) in Industry and Craft at RWTH University. The award is traditionally presented every two years during the colloquium organized by the IKV. Ulrich Reifenhäuser is the first businessman to receive the Georg Menges Award.

The award was presented by Professor Dr.-Ing. Christian Hopmann, Director of the IKV and Dr.-Ing. Herbert Müller, Chairman of the Board of the IKV Sponsors' Association. In his laudatory speech, Professor Hopmann highlighted Ulrich Reifenhäuser's great and successful commitment to the industry and his tireless search for optimal solutions that are sustainable in the best sense of the word, and praised him as a personality of integrity and integration. "The Georg Menges Prize is awarded for the consistent implementation of research and innovation in industry. The previously described achievements of our prizewinner would certainly have been enough to receive the award but, for the sponsors of the Prize, what was especially important and the key argument for their decision was Ulrich Reifenhäuser’s honorary dedication to the K tradefair," explained Professor Hopmann.

Ulrich Reifenhäuser has been a member of the Reifenhäuser Group management since 1992 and is responsible for international line sales. Together with his brother Bernd Reifenhäuser, he manages the company in the third generation. Ulrich Reifenhäuser has been a board member of the VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association for more than 25 years and has been its chairman since 2010. In 2020, he was inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame, as was the award's namesake, and in 2022 he will be co-chairing the world's leading plastics trade fair in Düsseldorf for the seventh time in a row as "President of K show."

Zu den Ergebnissen des Koalitionsausschusses äußerte sich BDI-Präsident Siegfried Russwurm. Der Koalitionsausschuss habe ein großvolumiges Entlastungspaket beschlossen, das überwiegend auf private Haushalte abziele. Die Wirtschaft erkenne das Bestreben der Bundesregierung an, den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern rasch und zielorientiert zu helfen, sehe aber erhebliche Mängel und Lücken im Entlastungspaket der Koalition. Aus Sicht der Wirtschaft seien die vorgestellten Maßnahmen enttäuschend und unkonkret: "Immer mehr Betriebe und Unternehmen sind angesichts explodierender Gas- und Strompreise existentiell bedroht."

Die Industrie erwarte von der Bundesregierung, die Belange und praktischen Erfordernisse der Unternehmen stärker in ihr laufendes Krisenmanagement einzubeziehen und den Industriestandort mit aller Kraft zu schützen. Die Brisanz der Situation erfordere für die am stärksten betroffenen Unternehmen sehr schnell wirkende Maßnahmen und unkomplizierten Zugang zu angemessenen Hilfsleistungen über die jetzt angekündigte Verlängerung des Spitzenausgleichs für energieintensive Unternehmen hinaus. Eine staatliche Ko-Finanzierung der Strom-Übertragungsnetzentgelte wäre dafür ein zielgerichteter Ansatzpunkt.

Die Dramatik beim Strompreis verlange, dass vorübergehend alles, was geht, schnell wieder Strom produziert. Das komme privaten und gewerblichen Verbrauchern gleichermaßen zugute. Essenziell seien sofortige Entscheidungen und praktische Schritte für eine möglichst große Verbreiterung des Stromangebots durch den schnellen Hochlauf von Stein- und Braunkohlekraftwerken, die Laufzeitverlängerung der Kernkraftwerke und die maximale Nutzung der Potenziale erneuerbarer Energien. Die tatsächliche Umsetzung längst getroffener Entscheidungen und die Lösung konkreter Probleme wie bei der Kohlelogistik dürften sich nicht noch weiter verzögern, damit eine stabile Versorgung über Herbst und Winter gewährleistet ist.

Die Industrie begrüßt die Ankündigungen der Bundesregierung, bevorzugt auf EU-Ebene Initiativen zur Dämpfung des drastischen Strompreisanstiegs zu ergreifen und dabei möglichst bald zu wirksamen Entscheidungen zu kommen. Die Industrie bietet ausdrücklich an, im Vorfeld ihre Expertise für Lösungen einzubringen. Wichtig sind eine Eingrenzung des Strompreisanstiegs und zugleich effektive Marktsignale für den beschleunigten Ausbau der Erneuerbaren sowie die Versorgungssicherheit.

Unverständlich viel Zeit sei bisher durch fehlende Rechtssicherheit für den sogenannten Fuel-Switch, den befristeten Wechsel von Gas auf Öl in Betrieben, verloren gegangen. Gerade viele Mittelständler wollten und könnten ihre Produktion vorübergehend ohne Gas aufrechterhalten, ihren Gasbedarf senken und zugleich mehr Versorgungssicherheit für sich selbst und für ihre Kunden gewinnen.

"Es braucht eine deutliche Beschleunigung bei allen relevanten Genehmigungen und viel schnellere Entscheidungen der Behörden vor Ort. Die Bundesregierung muss verbindlich klarstellen, dass jetzige Einsparungen von Gas in den Unternehmen im Falle einer Gasmangellage auf Belieferungsreduzierungen angerechnet werden. Für rasche Einspareffekte wäre es kontraproduktiv, wenn diejenigen, die ihren Gasverbrauch jetzt bereits reduzieren, im Falle einer Gasmangellage dafür faktisch bestraft würden,“ so der BDI-Präsident.

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, has named experienced operations and development officer Ryan Ragan as its new Director of Membership and Industry Relations to retain and grow memberships and enhance member values. He brings 20 years of experience from various bio-medical and healthcare organizations.

For the past four years he worked in domestic and international business development at the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, (ACHC).
He began his career the U. S. Marines before transitioning to business after being discharged. Ragan also helped the Central Jersey Blood Center achieve record-setting growth in his first two years as its Chief Operating Officer. In another role, he trained management candidates at Grifols to take over and run both existing and start up biomedical facilities.

As Business Development Manager for ACHC, he helped develop and launch pharmaceutical and home health programs in Italy and Saudi Arabia.  Ragan’s team also oversaw relationships with state and national associations.

At INDA, he will work with members to help identify opportunities and work internally to determine how INDA can be a resource for solutions.  He will strive to add additional value to INDA members through education and new service lines.

Ragan holds a bachelor’s degree in Business, from the University of Phoenix.

Prof. Manfred Renner and Prof. Christian Doetsch will take joint leadership of the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT from August 2022. As renowned scientists, they have most recently shaped the direction of the institute as heads of the Products division and Energy division respectively, and will now follow in the footsteps of Prof. Eckhard Weidner, who has entered retirement.

This is the first time in its history that Fraunhofer UMSICHT is led by two directors. Both institute directors began their professional careers at the institute and from August they will have a joint hand in its future.

Prof. Manfred Renner holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering, specializing in process engineering and business development. Since 2006, he has held various roles at Fraunhofer UMSICHT, most recently heading up the Products division and overseeing its 126 employees and its budget of 14.8 million euros. He has set international standards through his award-winning research into a free of water tanning leather tanning process that uses compressed carbon dioxide. With the development of innovative aerogel-based insulation materials for building facades, he has made a significant contribution to environmentally friendly, circular applications in the construction industry and initiated a number of industrial projects. One of the notable technological breakthroughs made by his team was the development of a new type of fire-resistant glass, which can withstand even the most extreme heat. This won his development team the Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize in October 2020.

Alongside becoming institute director, Prof. Renner will also take over the leadership of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy CCPE in August 2022. In this role, he will represent the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft on a national and international level with regard to the transformation of industry and society to a circular economy. In addition, he will start his professorship in Responsible Process Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Over the course of his professorship, he will shape the systemic development of the circular economy at a corporate, regional and European level.

Prof. Christian Doetsch has worked in energy research for more than 25 years, spending most of this time at Fraunhofer UMSICHT. As head of the Energy division, he managed a team of around 145 employees and was responsible for a budget of approximately 10.4 million euros. His technological focal points are energy storage, Power-to-X technologies including hydrogen electrolysis and chemical conversion, catalysts, and energy system modeling and optimization. His overarching aim is the integration of renewable energies into a cross-sectoral, resilient energy system.

In 2015, Doetsch co-founded the award-winning start-up Volterion GmbH & Co. KG, which develops redox flow batteries. He attained high visibility on a global scale by redesigning stacks, one of the main components of redox flow batteries, an achievement for which he, his team and Volterion representatives were awarded the Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize in May 2021. The energy expert also acts as deputy spokesperson for the Fraunhofer Energy Alliance and task manager for the energy storage group at the International Energy Agency (IEA). He also co-founded the “Open District Hub e. V.,” an association that promotes the energy transition in the sector by means of energy systems integration.

Since January 2020, he has been Professor of Cross Energy Systems at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. In this role, he conducts research into ecological evaluation and resilience of cross-sectoral energy systems.
