Dornier: 100th birthday of Peter Dornier

On the 31st of January, the birthday of Peter Dornier the second-son of aircraft pioneer Claude Dornier, was celebrated for the 100th time. In 1950 he founded the manufacturer of weaving machines Lindauer Dornier GmbH, Lindau/Germany, and headed the company for decades. As a designer and entrepreneur he was active not only in the field of textile machines but also in aircraft construction.
As early as the beginning of the 1960s, Peter Dornier recognizes the advent of shuttleless looms as the beginning of a new era. The rapier weaving machine designed by him enables the production of technical fabrics and thus fosters the structural change of the textile industry towards technical textiles.
The family-owned company currently produces weaving and special machines with approximately 1,000 employees exclusively at 2 locations on Lake Constance.
