Hermann Finckh erhielt den  JEC Composites Innovation Award in der Kategorie Equipment Machinery & Heavy Industries für die Innovation MAXIMALE MASSENREDUZIERUNG VON ZERSPANUNGSWERKZEUGEN. Das Forschungsteam der Deutschen Institute für Textil- und Faserforschung Denkendorf (DITF) entwickelte einen modular aufgebauten Hobelkopf aus carbonfaserverstärktem Kunststoff (CFK) für Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen, der vom Industriepartner Leitz GmbH & Co. KG hergestellt und erfolgreich getestet wurde.

Der Planumfangsfräser in Extrem-Leichtbauweise wurde nach einem modularen Gestaltungsprinzip anstelle von Aluminium aus carbonfaserverstärktem Kunststoff (CFK) konstruiert. Dadurch wiegt er 50 Prozent weniger als herkömmliche Werkzeuge. Mit ihm sind deutlich höhere Drehzahlen möglich, wodurch eine eineinhalbfache Produktionssteigerung erreicht wird. Die Entwicklung des „Extreme-Lightweight“ Lösungsprinzips erfolgte mit Hilfe von numerischer Simulation. Jeder Entwicklungsschritt wurde virtuell auf seine Eignung und Grenzen überprüft. Das Prinzip wurde zum Patent angemeldet.

Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft stehen vor existenziellen Herausforderungen. Dazu gehören neben den Folgen des Klimawandels auch die Erkenntnis, dass Energie und viele Ressourcen nicht mehr im gewohnten Maße zur Verfügung stehen, so dass deren Effizienz kurzfristig deutlich gesteigert werden muss. Leichtbau insbesondere mit Faserverbundmaterialien kann und wird hier einen wichtigen Beitrag leisten, z. B. in Windkraftanlagen oder Wasserstoffspeichern. Als Dachverband vertritt Composites Germany die Fähigkeiten und Interessen der deutschen Faserverbundindustrie. Durch den Wiedereintritt des Composites United bündelt Composites Germany die Kräfte der beiden führenden Composites-Netzwerke in Deutschland und seine Position wird deutlich gestärkt werden. Geänderte Rahmenbedingungen machen den Eintritt wieder möglich und nötig.

Weiterhin werden der VDMA und Leichtbau BW die Arbeit von Composites Germany als assoziierte Mitglieder unterstützen und das Know-how ihrer Mitglieder einbringen. „Gemeinsam werden die Organisationen den nachhaltigen Leichtbau als Schlüsseltechnologie für Deutschland fördern und stellen dabei die Composites-Werkstoffe in den Mittelpunkt“, so Prof. Klaus Drechsler von Composites United, einer der beiden Vorstände von Composites Germany. „Als Netzwerk und Sprachrohr der Composites-Industrie bündelt Composites Germany die Interessen der Mitglieder. Das Ziel ist, die Aktivitäten kontinuierlich auszubauen, Innovationen und Technologien zu fördern, neue Märkte und neue Wertschöpfungsketten zu entwickeln und die Aus- und Weiterbildung zu verankern“, ergänzt sein Vorstandskollege Dr. Michael Effing von der AVK. Die Vereinbarung wurde am 29. November 2022 während des JEC Forum DACH in Augsburg geschlossen, bei dem beide Verbände Kooperationspartner der Veranstaltung waren.

Hauptziel des JEC Forum DACH ist es, das dynamische Verbundstoff-Ökosystem der DACH-Region zu fördern. Neben einem umfangreichen Business Meetings- und Konferenz-Programm wird Innovation vom 29. bis 30. November 2022 in Augsburg einen besonderen Platz einnehmen, da die Teilnehmenden die Möglichkeit haben, den JEC Composites Startup Booster und die AVK Awards zu erleben. Die Gewinner beider Wettbewerbe werden am 29. November im Rahmen einer feierlichen Preisverleihung bekannt gegeben.

BioWerkz: Schließen der Kreisläufe
Bei BioWerkz wird eine neue Klasse biobasierter, ressourceneffizienter und CO₂-negativer Materialien mit dem Namen "NEWood" entwickelt, die ausschließlich aus Holzabfällen und landwirtschaftlichen Abfällen bestehen und mit Pilzmyzel, dem Wurzelgeflecht von Pilzen, als natürlichem Bindemittel gebunden werden, ohne dass synthetische Bindemittel erforderlich sind.

Bufo Technology – HARDCORK: Hochleistungsfähiger biobasierter Verbundstoff
Die »bufo technology« hat den High-Performance Verbundwerkstoff HARDCORK® aus Kork, Fasern und duroplastischer Matrix entwickelt. HARDCORK® kann als Kernmaterial, Sandwichplatte oder komplexes Formteil gefertigt werden.

Cavicore: Wasserlösliche Salzkerne für die Herstellung von Hohlkörpern aus Kohlenstofffasern
CAVICORE produziert wasserlösliche Kerne für die Herstellung von Hohlbauteilen aus CFK. Ihre "verlorenen Kerne" haben den Vorteil, temperaturbeständig, stabil sowie umweltfreundlich und recycelbar zu sein, da sie aus reinen Salzen ohne Bindemittel bestehen.

Composite Recycling: Den Kreislauf für Verbundwerkstoffe schließen
Composite Recycling hat ein energieeffizientes und nachhaltiges Verfahren entwickelt, um das Harz von den Fasern zu trennen. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne hat das Team eine Nachbehandlung entwickelt, um die Fasern zu reinigen und sie in neuen Verbundwerkstoffen wiederzuverwenden und so den Kreislauf zu schließen.

The global composites community reunited at JEC WORLD 2022 on May 3rd to 5th for three days of innovation, networking and knowledge sharing. The industry was excited to reconnect in Paris after three years and the show exceeded all expectations in terms of product launches, content, business activity and attendance. Overall, the event welcomed 32,000+ professional visits, in Paris and online, from more than 115 countries and featured 1,201 exhibitors and 26 pavilions, whilst the JEC World Connect platform offered an additional way to explore the show this year.

While fewer Asian participants were able to join the show this year due to travel complexities, the attendance of a high level of decision makers from 117 countries and all key players along the value chain resulted in a dynamic environment for networking and business. As a consequence, companies were keen to confirm their presence next year; by the time the show closed its doors, 50% of JEC World 2023 exhibition space had already been booked.  Exhibitors and attendees have expressed very positive feedback about the quality of the exhibition and such a successful come-back of JEC World as the pinnacle event of the industry.

Innovations at JEC World
With more than 500 product launches during this year’s show, JEC World remains a popular venue to introduce new products to the global market.

The JEC Composites Innovation Awards celebrated 10 collaborative projects, reflecting the dynamism and the resilience of our industry, and two Innovation Planets displayed 80 impressive applications.

Celebrating its five-year anniversary, the JEC Composites Startup Booster competition is now established to discover startups in the advanced composites sector.

JEC World contributing to a more sustainable world
JEC World’s conference program shone a light on this year’s theme and most impactful topic: Composites for a Sustainable World. Sustainability continues to rise as a key growth driver for the composites industry, enabling diverse application sectors to achieve ambitious sustainability goals, from energy and transportation, to building and infrastructure, and so many more. JEC World highlighted how the growing application of composites will open up exciting new horizons for human activities, improving people’s lives and leading to a better, more sustainable world.

International community
Three Country on Stage presentations showcased the structure and strengths of the composites industries of South Korea, the Netherlands and the United States. The program featured keynote presentations and business cases which demonstrate the countries’ composites expertise  in hydrogen, in sustainable excellence, and innovation in building and mobility, respectively.

Ministers, ambassadors and official representatives from 16 countries also visited the show as part of dedicated official delegation tours from the United States, Turkey, Hungary, Taiwan, Portugal, Croatia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, North Macedonia, Germany, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Sweden and Spain.

Thus, JEC World was the opportunity for government representatives to meet the leading composites actors of their respective regions or markets and show their support. Official inaugurations also took place on the Dutch, American and British pavilions.

The JEC Composites Startup Booster rewards innovations with a great potential market impact and promote them to an influential audience of decision-makers. In 5 years, it became a reference for entrepreneurship in the composites industry worldwide, shining a light, each year, on 20 finalists from all over the world, giving them the opportunity to pitch their project on JEC World’ stage before a panel of expert judges.

The competition has been organized in three different regions (Europe, USA and Asia) and has already fostered the emergence of 600+ innovative projects from 50+ countries, 80 finalists and 30 winners, including Arevo, Continuous Composites, ComPair, Fortify and Vartega.

Die AVK - Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e.V. bittet um Bewerbungen zum renommierten AVK Innovationspreis 2022 für den Bereich Faserverstärkte Kunststoffe (FVK) / Composites in folgenden Kategorien:

• Innovative Produkte/Bauteile bzw. Anwendungen
• Innovative Prozesse bzw. Verfahren
• Forschung und Wissenschaft

Ein Ziel des Innovationspreises ist die Förderung neuer Produkte/Bauteile bzw. Anwendungen aus faserverstärkten Kunststoffen (FVK) sowie die Förderung neuer Verfahren bzw. Prozesse zur Herstellung dieser FVK-Produkte. Ein weiterer Preis geht an Universitäten, Hochschulen und Institute für herausragende wissenschaftliche Arbeiten in Forschung und Wissenschaft. In allen Kategorien wird besonderer Wert auf das Thema „Nachhaltigkeit“ gelegt. Ein wichtiges Ziel ist es, die Innovationen sowie die dahinterstehenden Firmen/Institutionen auszuzeichnen und so die Leistungsfähigkeit der gesamten Composites-Industrie öffentlichkeitswirksam darzustellen. Bewertet werden die Einreichungen von einer hochkarätigen Jury von Experten aus dem Composites-Bereich.

JEC World, the leading global trade show dedicated to composite materials, their manufacturing technologies and application markets, will take place in Paris from March 8-10, 2022, under the theme Composites for a Sustainable World. JEC World 2022 will be the industry’s most awaited international face to face event after the long pandemic period. Exhibition space is already 98% booked, a clear demonstration of the industry’s commitment to meet and resume business. Those unable to join in person will be able to experience the show via the JEC World Connect digital platform.

Innovation is in JEC World’s DNA
One of JEC World’s objective’s is to promote the composites sector’s most innovative projects. More than 600 product launches are expected to be announced over the three days of the show, which will also feature JEC’s high-regarded innovation challenges and awards ceremonies :

• The JEC Composites Innovation Awards celebrate innovative global composite projects, as well as fruitful collaborations between different players in the value chain. Over more than 15 years, the JEC Composites Innovation Awards have highlighted collaborations between some 1,900 companies and recognized 203 creative projects. The winners will be announced on March 7th during a dedicated ceremony and their successful technologies will be on display throughout the show.

• The JEC Composites Startup Booster is the leading startup competition in the world of composites. In 2022, this competition will celebrate its fifth anniversary, with a special event to be organized onsite and the launch of a new “sustainability” award. And, with 20 finalists for 2022, it will recognize innovations with the greatest potential market impact and promote them to an influential audience of decision-makers. The finalists’ innovations will be displayed at JEC World’s “Startup Village.”

• For the first time, JEC World will host the 3rd edition of the SMC BMC Design Award organized by the European Alliance for SMC BMC. This international competition recognizes and promotes design excellence in the use of SMC and BMC materials. The theme of this edition is Sustainable Living, and the award is opento design students and young design professionals (less than 3 years of experience) living in Europe.

Die ITA-Gruppe, bestehend aus dem Institut für Textiltechnik der RWTH Aachen University (ITA) zusammen mit seinem Forschungs-und Entwicklungsdienstleister ITA Technologietransfer (ITA GmbH) und weiteren Tochtergesellschaften, stellt sich strategisch neu auf. Ab 25. Januar 2022 wird ein neues Partnerschaftsmodell angeboten. um den aktuellen Anforderungen und Bedürfnissen der Industrie besser zu entsprechen.

Das ITA ist ein führendes Forschungsinstitut mit 400 Mitarbeitern in den Bereichen faserbasierte Hochleistungswerkstoffe, textile Halbzeuge und deren Herstellungsverfahren. Die ITA GmbH ist der industrielle Partner für Forschung und Entwicklung, Technologie- und Wissenstransfer sowie für umfassende Lösungen entlang der gesamten textilen Wertschöpfungskette.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Gries, Direktor des ITA, erläutert das neue Partnerschaftsmodell: "Die Auswirkungen der Covid-19-Krise haben einmal mehr gezeigt, wie wichtig langfristige und vertrauensvolle Geschäftsbeziehungen sind. Daher etablieren wir unser neues Partnerschaftsmodell, bei dem wir noch enger mit unseren derzeitigen und künftigen Industriepartnern zusammenarbeiten und ihnen neueste Technologien und Innovationen aus den Bereichen Forschung und Entwicklung zur Verfügung stellen werden. Wir werden Networking- und Arbeitsgruppentreffen initiieren, Zugang zu den großen Maschinenparks und Labors des ITA anbieten, Partnerprojekte und gemeinsam organisierte öffentlich geförderte Projekte durchführen sowie Schulungen für die Mitarbeiter der Partner und Personalmöglichkeiten anbieten."

Dr. Christoph Greb, wissenschaftlicher Direktor des ITA: „Wir freuen uns sehr, dieses neue Partnerschaftsmodell zu initiieren, bei dem Wissenschaft, Forschung und Industrie in vorwettbewerblichen Projekten Schulter an Schulter arbeiten. Industriebereiche gestalten."

Während einer dreitägigen Informationsreihe im Hybridformat stellte das ITA im September 2021 den Industriepartnern erfolgreich erste Projekte vor, darunter "Recycling von Composite-basierten Batteriegehäusen", "Recycling von Composite-basierten Druckbehältern", "Naturfaserverbundwerkstoffe", "Textile Strukturen mit dem Fokus auf biaxiale Kettengewirke", "Fabrik der Zukunft", "Tapes  und Hybridgarne".
