education to the company’s Bordeaux-Cestas campus for its eighth education congress. The
event was dedicated to the mega trends shaping the fashion industry and impacting
professions from design to production.

Over fifty representatives from among the most important fashion schools in Germany, Canada, China,
USA, France, Hong Kong, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Sweden, participated
in this biannual meeting between industry experts and teaching professionals.

Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using fabrics, leather,
technical textiles and composite materials, recently welcomed partners from the world of
education to the company’s Bordeaux-Cestas campus for its eighth education congress. The
event was dedicated to the mega trends shaping the fashion industry and impacting
professions from design to production.

Over fifty representatives from among the most important fashion schools in Germany, Canada, China,
USA, France, Hong Kong, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Sweden, participated
in this biannual meeting between industry experts and teaching professionals.

Fashion professions are evolving as companies make their first steps towards Industry 4.0, adopting 3D
and rationalizing the lifecycle management for their collections thanks to PLM. Lectra’s congress enabled
schools to discuss the developing role of designers and patternmakers, and the new elements to be
integrated into training programs.

Lectra illustrated future changes through presentations on design, patternmaking, 3D prototyping, and PLM.
“It is fundamental to bring innovation experts in the industry together with fashion schools, because
students will drive the evolution of this industry,” stated Pascal Denizart, Managing Director of the Centre
européen des textiles innovants (CETI).

Working with schools to design courses which meet the needs of fashion companies has always been at
the heart of Lectra’s education program. During the event, the company presented collaborative
experiences between partner schools and fashion brands, such as the competitions organised by Lectra
with Missoni, Balenciaga, and Armani in Italy, as well as Peacebird in China and JC Penney in the United
States.

In the United Kingdom, Lectra collaborated with COS (H&M group) and the Arts University Bournemouth
(AUB) for a competition centred on the design of a collection with zero waste.
“The process was totally digital, from design to the creation of a virtual prototype in 3D. Our students learnt
to optimize each stage of the process. By leveraging the use of Kaledo®, Modaris® and Diamino®, the
collaborative work between AUB, COS and Lectra is exactly the type of project that enormously motivates
our students. Live briefs developed with leading fashion brands and Lectra offer excellent opportunities
which directly inform industry currency and student employability,” explained Penny Norman, a lecturer at
AUB.

The event also shone the spotlight on China and its major role in the evolution of the fashion industry.
Li Min, Vice-Dean of the fashion and design faculty at Donghua university in Shanghai spoke of the event,
organized by Lectra, which brought together major Chinese companies, experts, and representatives from
the biggest schools in China.

“Exchanges on the impact of the Made in China 2025 plan on the fashion industry can better prepare
students for tomorrow’s professions, where digital and automation will occupy a far more central position
than today,” testified Li Min.

"The fashion industry is evolving so fast that sharing insights and best practices with experts and other
fashion schools has become vital to ensure we offer the best learning experience and technology tools to
our students", said Dr. Trevor J. Little, Professor of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management in
the College of Textiles at NC State University.

“Lectra’s eighth education congress confirms the company’s commitment to our partner schools. We
shared our analysis of the market, the digitalization of the eco-system, and how Industry 4.0 principles can
be applied to the fashion industry. We also discussed mass customization and the role of PLM. While these
are key subjects for our customers, many schools are only now approaching them. We are preparing

In 2011, Orange Business Services recruited Nathalie Brunel as Vice-President, Business Operations and Support, then Vice-President Large Accounts, Manufacturing and IT. Prior to joining Lectra, Nathalie Brunel held the position of CEO and shareholder of Okavango Energy, a consulting and industrial energy performance company.

Nathalie has a diploma from the Institut supérieur de commerce de Paris.

Ideal Fibres & Fabrics Comines is the second facility in the Group to attain HPR status, and the very first in Europe. Pinnacle Polymers LLC in the USA also achieved the HPR as a chemical plant, which is a rare achievement within the chemical business. Fire risk prevention is part of the Group’s broader risk management activities. B.I.G. is investing in increasing the level of protection at all B.I.G. plants in order to protect its business continuity.

The divisions of B.I.G. are also implementing a number of safety programmes to raise awareness of workplace safety and to maintain strong safety records.

Intertextile Shanghai Autumn 2017 - Final Report

Intertextile Shanghai concluded its 2017 Autumn Edition on 13 October as the strong business results and praise from the worldwide participants once again affirmed its reputation as the world’s most effective apparel fabrics and accessories trade event in terms of boosting sales and product sourcing. Knowing the fair covered an all-encompassing range of products that cater to all sourcing needs, 77,883 buyers travelled from 102 countries and regions (2016: 73,927, 90 countries and regions) to Shanghai to source. This year, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, the UK and the US were the top 10 visitor countries and regions after Mainland China.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,538 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions (2016: 4,553, 29 countries and regions) also enjoyed the surge of business potential brought by this large number of high-quality trade buyers. The strong line-up of exhibitors, including 10 country and region pavilions – France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Milano Unica (Italy), Pakistan, Taiwan and Thailand – as well as 10 Group Pavilions organised by foremost industry leaders like DuPont, Hyosung, INVISTA and Lenzing, presented a full-spectrum of innovative and fashion offerings in 11 halls across 276,000 sqm (gross) exhibition area, an increase of nearly 6% compared to 2016.

While the nature of textile trade fairs has evolved over recent years, exhibitors’ successful results at this year’s Intertextile Shanghai shows that it is still the industry’s most effective order-writing and business development trade show because it remains the event where the global industry gathers to make purchasing decisions. As a result, many exhibitors see the fair as their business growth engine, and reported positive outlooks for sales after the fair.

LDT Nagold ermöglicht Abiturienten Einstieg ins Vollzeitmodell

Mit Studienstart März 2018 können modeaffine Abiturienten und Abgänger mit Fachabitur des Abiturientenjahrgangs 2017 und früher auch ohne Praxiserfahrung direkt im 4-semestrigen Vollzeitmodell der LDT Nagold ihr Studium beginnen. Bislang war es so, dass Abiturienten / Fachabiturienten ‚vor der Aufnahme des Studiums‘ im Vollzeitmodell eine ‚12-monatige Praxiszeit‘ nachweisen mussten.

Das eigens für diese Zielgruppe entwickelte neue Studienmodell sieht vor, dass die Abiturienten die ersten zwei Semester an der LDT regulär studieren und einen ersten Studienabschluss (Junior Fashion Manager LDT) nach einer entsprechenden Prüfung erhalten. Die Studieninhalte bestehen im Kern aus den Inhalten der beiden Semester des 4-semestrigen Studiengangs, werden jedoch noch um spezielle kommunikative und digitale Inhalte erweitert.

Anschließend sollten die Abiturienten dann eine 6 bis 12-monatige Praxiszeit in Unternehmen der Modebranche (Handel oder Industrie) absolvieren, damit sie dann wieder an die LDT zurückkommen und die noch fehlenden Semester für den Studienabschluss ‚Textilbetriebswirt BTE‘ erhalten können.

Mit Studienstart März 2018 können modeaffine Abiturienten und Abgänger mit Fachabitur des Abiturientenjahrgangs 2017 und früher auch ohne Praxiserfahrung direkt im 4-semestrigen Vollzeitmodell der LDT Nagold ihr Studium beginnen. Bislang war es so, dass Abiturienten / Fachabiturienten ‚vor der Aufnahme des Studiums‘ im Vollzeitmodell eine ‚12-monatige Praxiszeit‘ nachweisen mussten.

Das eigens für diese Zielgruppe entwickelte neue Studienmodell sieht vor, dass die Abiturienten die ersten zwei Semester an der LDT regulär studieren und einen ersten Studienabschluss (Junior Fashion Manager LDT) nach einer entsprechenden Prüfung erhalten. Die Studieninhalte bestehen im Kern aus den Inhalten der beiden Semester des 4-semestrigen Studiengangs, werden jedoch noch um spezielle kommunikative und digitale Inhalte erweitert.

Anschließend sollten die Abiturienten dann eine 6 bis 12-monatige Praxiszeit in Unternehmen der Modebranche (Handel oder Industrie) absolvieren, damit sie dann wieder an die LDT zurückkommen und die noch fehlenden Semester für den Studienabschluss ‚Textilbetriebswirt BTE‘ erhalten können.

Der große Vorteil für die Studenten hierbei ist, dass sie nach der 6 bis 12-monatigen Praxisphase sowohl wieder ins Vollzeitmodell, aber auch wahlweise ins ‚Firmenmodell‘ (duales Studium) der LDT Nagold einsteigen können. Die Fortführung des Studiums im Firmenmodell setzt natürlich voraus, dass sie im Rahmen der Praxiszeit ihr Unternehmen überzeugen konnten, sie unter Vertrag zu nehmen, um die noch ausstehenden ‚Theorie- u. Praxisphasen des Firmenmodells‘ (Phasen 3 - 5) durchlaufen zu können. In der 5. Theoriephase erfolgen dann die Abschlussprüfungen an der LDT mit dem in der Branche anerkannten Studienabschluss ‚Textilbetriebswirt BTE‘.

Ein weiterer Vorteil des neuen Studienmodells besteht darin, dass die Abiturienten nach der Praxisphase zuerst einmal in der Branche arbeiten und Geld verdienen können, da sie nicht unmittelbar danach ihr Studium an der LDT fortsetzen müssen, sondern dies auch zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt nachholen können.

Der große Vorteil für das jeweilige Unternehmen hierbei ist, dass dieses sich ja zunächst erst einmal vertraglich für eine begrenzte Zeitphase (6 bis 12-monatige Praxisphase) mit dem Abiturienten einigen muss. Erst mit Ablauf dieser Praxisphase entscheidet das Unternehmen dann, ob es den Praktikanten / die Praktikantin a) in ein festes Arbeitsverhältnis übernimmt oder b) mit ihm / ihr das Firmenmodell an der LDT fortsetzen möchte bzw. ob es den Praktikanten / die Praktikantin überhaupt nicht länger ‚unter Vertrag‘ nehmen möchte.

In the first two phases – completed, respectively, in November 2010 and May 2013 – the company recorded a total of 60 chemical substances that are produced in or imported to the countries of the European Union with volumes greater than 100 tons per year. In the third and fourth phase of REACH that is currently under way, all the remaining chemical substances of more than 1 ton per year must be registered by June 1, 2018.

With its expert chemical management system, Archroma, unlike many EU importers of textile and paper chemicals, controls the composition of its formulations and can therefore ensure full REACH compliance of each ingredient in its products.

With its broad product portfolio, Archroma is one major registrant of substances relevant to the textile and paper industries at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The company expects the total investment needed to be REACH ready to amount to 14.5 million USD.

Auch die LDT NAGOLD ist seit 2003 in Kroatien aktiv. Die LDT-ADRIA-CHALLENGE ist ein einmaliges und unvergleichliches Konzept mit sehr hohem Erlebnischarakter.

Die Flottille wird erneut koordiniert vom nautischen Leiter der LDT-AC, dem Nagolder Schuhhändler Helmut Raaf.

Möglich geworden ist dieses Event der besonderen Klasse durch das großzügige Sponsoring von namhaften Marken aus der Schuh- und Textilszene.
Rieker und Ricosta, Goretex, die ANWR-Group, Sport 2000, Huber-Ladenbau , Aktiv-Schuh  sowie Digel menswear und Modepark Röther haben bereits ihre Zusage für 2018 gegeben, weitere Anfragen laufen noch.

Die Bord-Atmosphäre auf einem Segelboot ist unvergleichlich, enger Kontakt und gemeinsames Schaffen der Studenten, der Manager und Sponsorenvertreter ist der ideale Übungsbetrieb für die späteren Aufgaben, welche am Ende des Studiums in Nagold auf die Absolventen der LDT warten.

Das Programm beinhaltet neben nautischen Aufgaben und der Regatta auch weitere spannende Themen einschließlich der legendären LDT-ADRIA-Fashion Show.
Die Inseln vor Split sind ob ihrer Schönheit weltweit bekannt und bieten neben traumhaften Buchten, - kleine Dorfhäfen und Städte mit venezianischer Kultur.
Solta, Brac, Hvar und Vis stehen immer auf dem Törnplan, der natürlich von der vorherrschenden Großwetterlage bestimmt wird.

Zum Stamm-Team gehört neben den Skippern,  Co-Skippern und Staff-Leuten auch der Notarzt Edi, der (selten gebraucht) doch den Verantwortlichen auch die nötige Sicherheit gibt.
Sicherheit hat immer auf jeder Adria-Challenge der LDT höchste Priorität und so kehrten sämtliche Teilnehmer der acht bisherigen Unternehmungen stets wohlbehalten zurück.
Die betörenden Düfte der einmaligen Pflanzenwelt der Adria in den Sinnen und das Salz des Meeres auf Haut und in den Haaren, Gemeinschaft mit besonderen Menschen in komplett anderer Umgebung, dies schafft den besonderen Geist der LDT-ADRIA-CHALLENGE – auch wieder 2018!

Up To Date Laundry, Baltimore, has again achieved Hygienically Clean (HC) Healthcare certification, reflecting their commitment to best management practices (BMPs) in laundering as verified by on-site inspection and their capability to produce hygienically clean textiles as quantified by ongoing microbial testing.
Up-To-Date was first certified in 2014. Recertification confirms the organization’s continuing dedication to infection prevention, compliance with recognized industry standards and processing healthcare textiles using BMPs as described in its quality assurance documentation, a focal point for Hygienically Clean inspectors’ evaluation. The independent, third-party inspection must also confirm essential evidence that:
• Employees are properly trained and protected
• Managers understand regulatory requirements
• OSHA-compliant
• Physical plant operates effectively

To achieve certification initially, laundries pass three rounds of outcome-based microbial testing, indicating that their processes are producing Hygienically Clean Healthcare textiles and zero presence of yeast, mold and harmful bacteria. They also must pass a facility inspection. To maintain their certification, they must pass quarterly testing to ensure that as laundry conditions change, such as water quality, textile fabric composition and wash chemistry, laundered product quality is consistently maintained. Re-inspection occurs every two to three years.
This process eliminates subjectivity by focusing on outcomes and results that verify textiles cleaned in these facilities meet appropriate hygienically clean standards and BMPs for hospitals, surgery centers, medical offices, nursing homes and other medical facilities.


Hygienically Clean Healthcare certification acknowledges laundries’ effectiveness in protecting healthcare operations by verifying quality control procedures in linen, uniform and facility services operations related to the handling of textiles containing blood and other potentially infectious materials.
Certified laundries use processes, chemicals and BMPs acknowledged by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, American National Standards Institute and others. Introduced in 2012, Hygienically Clean Healthcare brought to North America the international cleanliness standards for healthcare linens and garments used worldwide by the Certification Association for Professional Textile Services and the European Committee for Standardization.
Objective experts in epidemiology, infection control, nursing and other healthcare professions work with Hygienically Clean launderers to ensure the certification continues to enforce the highest standards for producing clean healthcare textiles.

30 UniFirst Plants Now Hygienically Clean Food Safety Certified

With seven more laundries certified this month, UniFirst Corp. has widened its lead among multi-location uniform service companies in achieving the Hygienically Clean Food Safety designation, as 30 facilities now have reached this milestone. The July additions included the company’s first such achievements in Nevada, New York and Wisconsin after UniFirst plants were already certified in 16 states and the Canadian province of British Columbia.
This achievement reflects UniFirst’s commitment to best management practices (BMPs) in laundering as verified by third-party on-site inspection and their capability to produce hygienically clean textiles as quantified by ongoing microbial testing.

Following the expansion drive already underway in Lenzing and Heiligenkreuz (both in Austria), Grimsby (Great Britain) and Mobile, Alabama (USA), the Supervisory Board of Lenzing AG approved the proposal of the Management Board yesterday to build the next state-of-the-art facility to produce lyocell fibers in Thailand. For this purpose, Lenzing is establishing a subsidiary in Thailand and purchasing a commercial property in Industrial Park 304 located in Prachinburi near Bangkok. In the coming months, the required permits and licenses as well as technical planning will be finalized. A definitive decision on constructing the new production plant will be made in the first quarter of 2018. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2020.

The selection of Industrial Park 304 in Prachinburi was based on its excellent overall infrastructure, outstanding expansion opportunities and the sustainable biogenic energy supply. Similar to the plant in Mobile, the planned production facility will be constructed on the basis of the latest state-of-the-art technology and feature a capacity of up to 100,000 tons annually. This site will strengthen the worldwide lyocell network of the Lenzing Group and enable its global customers to source TENCEL® branded fibers from Europe, North America and Asia.

With a global textile supply chain, being able to communicate a given color through the supply chain efficiently and effectively is vital. Ultimately this provides the designer with the knowledge that their product is commercially suitable from the initial concept stages through to final product.
Archroma will support the competition with its Color Atlas color management system, which will be key to both the competition theme and the accompanying educational package.
Using these colors also provides the best opportunity to minimize the environmental impact during the dyeing/printing process by ensuring that the dyes conform to many of the environmental standards that exist and are applied using best practice.

The Luna village received water from Narmada water project but due to insufficient storage capacity, the water was drained away in nearby pond. In close consultation with major stakeholders like Sarpanch and Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Huntsman’s Baroda site management proposed the construction of a water storage facility as a long-term solution for the village.
The project was operated on a Public-Private-Partnership model and took close to two years to complete. Through a Memorandum of Understanding between Huntsman Textile Effects and Luna local administration, the project was scoped out with committees formed with assigned roles and responsibilities prior to work commencing. With construction complete and all final inspections successfully concluded, Luna village takes over the running and maintenance of the water tank. Huntsman invested and managed the construction of the tank, working hand-in-hand with the Gujarat Water Board who undertook the laying of pipelines, drilling of wells and other underground work required for a complete water solution.

Certification Inspection Practices Attain High Accountability Standard

TRSA has upgraded its inspection management protocol for Clean Green and Hygienically Clean certifications, appointing an inspection program administrator and auditor to train and administer the inspection process and inspector training.
This enhances TRSA’s well-established reputation for expertise, consistency and impartiality for all applicant laundry companies and plants when inspectors verify their adherence to best management practices (BMPs). It also adds a highly expert third party to oversee the inspection program. It aligns with ISO quality management system (QMS) standards for assessing laundry applicants’ quality assurance practices and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans.

Laundry Design Group, LLC, Las Vegas, Nevada was selected as inspection program administrator after considering several firms, acknowledged for excellence in evaluating businesses’ QA guideline compliance. Bob Corfield, the firm’s CEO, has over 30 years’ industry experience, five performing inspections for Clean Green and Hygienically Clean. Corfield is a certified ISO QMS Lead Auditor with a HACCP designation.
As chief inspector and program administrator, Corfield identifies, administers and trains the independent inspector team. Each inspector enters a comprehensive training program including certification standards review, evidence collection procedures, interview protocol, ATP (work surface) testing, technology use, HACCP compliance and sample collection procedures. Training also focuses on educating inspectors regarding acceptable approaches launderers can take to implement BMPs. Each inspector must agree to a code of ethics including confidentiality and conflict of interest statements.
The inspection program is deployed on an iPad application that all inspectors must use for note-taking, evidence collection, and inspection scoring. This creates consistency from inspection to inspection and inspector to inspector. Inspectors’ reports are disseminated within hours of each inspection for lead audit review and discussion if required.
