EFI präsentiert umweltfreundlichen Pigmenttextildrucker

Auf der FESPA Global Print Expo präsentierte Electronics For Imaging Lösungen für Werbetechnik und den industriellen Textildruck. Die neue EFI™ Reggiani ecoTERRA Pigmentlösung, die dort erstmals vorgestellt wurde, ist eine integrierte Lösung für einen optimierten, umweltfreundlicheren Textildruck.

Auf der FESPA Global Print Expo präsentierte Electronics For Imaging Lösungen für Werbetechnik und den industriellen Textildruck. Die neue EFI™ Reggiani ecoTERRA Pigmentlösung, die dort erstmals vorgestellt wurde, ist eine integrierte Lösung für einen optimierten, umweltfreundlicheren Textildruck.

Nachhaltiger Textildirektdruck
Der EFI Reggiani ecoTERRA wird im Laufe des Jahres 2022 erhältlich sein und ist eine All-in-One-Lösung für wasserbasierten Pigmentdruck, der für die Vor- und Nachbehandlung keine weitere Zusatzausrüstung benötigt. Seine zum Patent angemeldete Technologie reduziert den Energie- und Wasserverbrauch insgesamt drastisch, um so den Textildirektdruck noch nachhaltiger zu gestalten.
 
Nutzer profitieren von den hervorragenden Nass- und Trockenechtheitseigenschaften, der Detailschärfe und der Haltbarkeit des ecoTERRA. Gleichzeitig wartet das Gerät bei reduzierten Wartungskosten mit einer längeren Lebensdauer der Druckköpfe auf.

Neonyt Fashion Show mit dem Thema "Biosphere-Technosphere" als multimediale Show

Am 23. Juni wurde das Atelier Lihotzky im Frankfurter Ostend Schauplatz einer Symbiose von Natur und Technik. Die Neonyt Fashion Show thematisierte mit „Biosphere-Technosphere“ das Zusammenspiel von Mensch und Umwelt; die Elemente Wasser, Luft und Erde im Clash mit unserer industrialisierten, digitalisierten Welt. In 31 Multibrand-Looks und einem multimedialen Runway zeigten rund 50 Brands die Zukunft der (nachhaltigen) Mode.

Der Fokus der Neonyt Fashion Show lag auf der Verbindung von Natur und ihren Elementen Wasser, Luft und Erde mit allem, was Menschen erschaffen – von Infrastruktur über Architektur, der industriellen Landwirtschaft und der digitalen Welt. Die Kombination dieser scheinbar kontroversen Themen spannte den Bogen zu unserem gegenwärtigen Erdzeitalter, dem Anthropozän, in dem der Mensch zu einem der wichtigsten Einflussfaktoren auf die biologischen, geologischen und atmosphärischen Vorgänge auf der Erde geworden ist.

Neue Dimensionen und regenerative Systeme
Die Biosphäre wurde vor allem durch die Silhouetten und Strukturen in den Looks repräsentiert, wie auch durch die organischen und regenerativen Materialien, aus denen ein Großteil der Kollektionsteile gefertigt wurde. So werden auf der Neonyt Fashion Show biologisch angebaute oder nachhaltigere regenerative Materialien zugelassen, die dazu beitragen, wertvolle Ressourcen wie sauberes Wasser, Energie und Land zu schützen und damit zu einem gesunden Ökosystem beitragen.

Die Technosphäre, zu der qua Definition auch die Menschen gehören, wurde in der Inszenierung über die Verschmelzung von der digitalen Welt mit der realen Welt über große LED Screens dargestellt, auf denen digitaler Content sowie Close-ups und Überblendungen der gezeigten Looks zu sehen waren. In den Kollektionen manifestiert sich die Technosphäre in den Themen Recycling bzw. recycelte Chemiefasern, sauberer Chemikalieneinsatz oder im technischen Kreislauf des Cradle2Cradle-Konzepts. Visuell stellte sich die Technosphäre in glänzenden und reflektierenden Oberflächen dar sowie in Sportswear- und Outdoor Styles.

ITM: Techtextil Innovation Award 2022 für neuartige textile Herzklappenprothesen

Wissenschaftler:innen vom Institut für Textilmaschinen und Textile Hochleistungswerkstofftechnik (ITM) der TU Dresden sind am 21. Juni 2022 für ihre gewebten Herzklappenimplantate mit dem Techtextil Innovation Award 2022 in der Kategorie „New Product“ ausgezeichnet worden.

Im Rahmen eines Forschungsprojektes der Industriellen Gemeinschaftsforschung (IGF) entwickelten Wissenschaftler:innen des ITM neuartige textile Herzklappenprothesen. Die Implantate können exakt an die anatomische Form angepasst und minimalinvasiv im Herz platziert werden. Die textile Herzklappe ist integral gefertigt. Hierbei erfolgt die Integration des Ventils in situ während des Webprozesses. Somit besteht die strömungstechnisch optimierte Herzklappe aus einer einzigen textilen Struktur. Weitere Fügeprozesse, z. B. durch Nähen, sind nicht mehr erforderlich. Das reduziert den Fertigungsaufwand im Gegensatz zur heutigen Herstellung biologischer Herzklappenprothesen in Handarbeit enorm.

Prof. Chokri Cherif, Institutsdirektor des ITM, freut sich mit seinem Team sehr über die kontinuierli-chen interdisziplinären Forschungserfolge, die am ITM in enger Kooperation mit technischen Webereien, Medizinern und Anwendern stetig erzielt werden. „Bereits vor zwei Jahren wurden wir mit dieser neuartigen Entwicklung als eines der drei Finalistenteams des Otto von Guericke-Preises 2020 geehrt. Die Auswahl für den Techtextil Innovation Award 2022 ist eine erneute Bestätigung für den Bedarf an unserer praxisorientierten Forschung und eine besondere Würdigung, aber gleichzeitig auch weiterer Ansporn für die zeitnahe Umsetzung unserer Forschungsergebnisse in die Industrie.“

Bislang stehen für die Behandlung defekter Herzklappen mechanische und biologische Klappen zur Verfügung. Die neuartigen gewebten Herzklappenprothesen sollen die Vorteile der beiden Typen vereinen: unbegrenzte Lebensdauer, keine lebenslange Einnahme von blutverdünnenden Medikamenten und minimal invasive Operation. Ferner können die textilen Herzklappen zeit- und kostensparend mit hoher Reproduzierbarkeit und Qualität gefertigt werden.

GOTS Standard revision process enters next phase

The ongoing revision process to the GOTS Standard document and supporting Manual for Implementation garnered a robust response during its first public comment period, which ended on June 13 and elicited over 300 inputs. Of that, about 60 percent of comments were related to technical criteria such as ecology, chemical inputs, and material quality; and around 30 percent concerned GOTS social criteria. The Standard sets forth the requirements for organic textiles throughout the entire processing chain. GOTS’s commitment to making every version stronger ensures that the Standard continues to be a dynamic and evolving document and remain at the forefront as the most recognized and respected global standard for textiles.

The first draft of the revised standard, GOTS version 7.0, was made available for an initial 60-day comment period. Stakeholders, associations, organisations, companies and individuals were encouraged to contribute to the revision of the Standard during this timeframe. The Standard is updated every three years, ensuring that GOTS keeps up with advances in the industry and developments in the science and technology of textile processing.

Beginning in 2022, the GOTS revision process is following a newly developed and more inclusive Standard Setting Procedure, which includes oversight of the process by a Standard Revision Committee (SRC). The SRC consists of experts from different stakeholder groups, including scientists, textile industry professionals, sustainability, sourcing and human rights specialists and others. Members work together throughout the entire revision process to establish terms of reference and make decisions on any changes.

The comments received are being compiled and will be available for viewing on the GOTS website shortly. For the next stage of the revision process, the SRC will deliberate all comments, and a second draft of the revision will be released for a second and final 30-day period of public input in September 2022, which will be announced on the GOTS website and social media. The final version of the revised standard, GOTS version 7.0 will be released in March 2023, and will come into effect one year later.

Die Abschlussveranstaltung „Auf dem Weg zu einer zirkulären Textilwirtschaft – Produkte, Geschäftsmodelle und digitale Strategien“ findet am 20. Oktober 2022 in Berlin statt.

Vorgestellt werden zirkuläre Produktdesigns für Großabnehmer und wie Anforderungen an Komfort, Langlebigkeit und Nachhaltigkeit gebündelt werden können.
Diskutiert werden drei Schwerpunktthemen:

Dr Sharon McGuinness selected as ECHA’s new Executive Director

The Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency has selected Dr Sharon McGuinness as ECHA’s next Executive Director. As part of the appointment procedure, she will make a statement before the European Parliament and answer questions from its members. This is tentatively scheduled for 4 July 2022.

Dr Sharon McGuinness, an Irish national, is the Chief Executive Officer of the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) in Ireland since 2018. Prior to this, she was the Assistant Chief Executive for the Chemicals and Prevention Division within the Authority, with responsibility for division management, policy provision, advice and enforcement for a wide range of occupational health and safety, chemical and market surveillance legislation aimed at protecting human health and safety for workers and consumers.

She was a member of ECHA’s Management Board between 2014-2020 and Chair of the Board between 2016-2020. She graduated from the University College Dublin with a B.Sc. (Hons) in pharmacology and chemistry, and she holds a PhD in pharmacology, as well as diplomas in Legal Studies and Company Direction.

EREMA: POWERFIL presents new laserfilter

POWERFIL, a business unit of recycling machine manufacturer EREMA GmbH, presents its 2/406 laserfilter.

"For applications with a focus on melt quality and filtration fineness, this increase in screen area ensures lower pressure and temperature at the same throughput rate, allowing even finer screens to be used for even better results in quality-intensive plastics applications," explains Robert Obermayr, Head of Business Unit POWERFIL, EREMA GmbH. If the throughput capacity of the recycling plant needs to be increased, a significantly higher rate of plastic melt can be filtered while maintaining the other parameters thanks to the larger surface area of the screen. Up to 9,000 kilogrammes of melt can be filtered per hour with the Quattro version of the new LF 406 laserfilter.

"Plastic recycling has become a must-have, even for input streams with higher levels of contamination. Efficient filtration systems are therefore indispensable for achieving the specified melt quality using existing extrusion systems," says Obermayr. That is why POWERFIL also offers the proven EREMA melt filters as individual components for existing EREMA machines and third-party extrusion systems. The product range includes the SW RTF partial area backflush system and the laserfilter. The range is aimed at manufacturers as well as recyclers, because the high-performance filters can be used to process post consumer plastics as well as post industrial films with paper labels and clean PET material. Both types of filter are particularly easy to integrate into an existing recycling plant and both are available in numerous sizes and variations. Whether the customer uses the robust backflush filter or the continuous high-performance laserfilter depends on the throughput and level of contamination of the material. The Laserfilter is ideal for heavy contamination. It handles impurity levels up to 5 percent and filtration as fine as 70 μm while continuously cleaning the screen with a scraper.

Das Recycling Atelier bietet als erste Modellfabrik ein weltweit bisher einzigartiges Konzept für ein ganzheitliches Recycling von Textilien an. Die Wissenschaftler:innen von ITA und Hochschule forschen dort an sämtlichen Prozessschritten des Textilrecyclings: von der Materialanalyse, über die Sortierung, die Aufbereitung und die textile Verarbeitung, bis hin zur Produktgestaltung. Sie betreiben die Prozesse zunächst modellhaft mit dem Fokus auf einer sinnhaften Produktion, bevor dann die Skalierung auf einen industriellen Produktionsmaßstab erfolgt.

Die Schwerpunkte des Recycling Ateliers liegen auf der Entwicklung neuer Produkte und Prozesse für textile Sekundärrohstoffe und der Erarbeitung von Konzepten für das vollständige Verwerten von Alttextilien mit bestmöglicher Qualität sowohl durch integriertes und hochwertiges Recycling als auch durch kreislauforientiertes Produktdesign. Die Ergebnisse münden letztendlich im industriellen Einsatz von Recyclingkonzepten und schlagen die Brücke hin zu aktuellen Geschäftsmodellen.

Bei jedem Prozessschritt unterstützen Unternehmen aus der gesamten Wertschöpfungskette die Forschung und bringen die industrielle Sichtweise und Kompetenz ein. In einem großen Workshop-Areal bietet das Recycling Atelier in Kooperation mit internationalen Unternehmen die Möglichkeit, die Produkte der Firmen auf den Prüfstand zu stellen und im direkten Austausch neue Konzepte für eine nachhaltige Textilproduktion zu erarbeiten.

Der Augenmerk liegt vor allem auf dem Bereich der Digitalisierung: Durch eine hochwertige und moderne Erfassung, Aufbereitung und Auswertung von Daten sollen neue Produktionsprozesse ermöglicht werden. Dabei wird der Einsatz von Künstlicher Intelligenz im Bereich des maschinellen Lernens und der Neuronalen Netze für die Textilbranche erforscht.

Das Recycling Atelier ist ein Beitrag der Hochschule Augsburg und des ITA Augsburg zum KI-Produktionsnetzwerk Augsburg. Das KI-Produktionsnetzwerk Augsburg, eingerichtet von der Bayerischen Landesregierung, ist ein Verbund von zahlreichen KI-Kompetenzträgern im Großraum Augsburg. Verbundpartner sind die Universität Augsburg, das Fraunhofer-Institut für Gießerei-, Composite- und Verarbeitungstechnik IGCV, das Zentrum für Leichtbauproduktionstechnologie (ZLP) des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) in Augsburg sowie die Hochschule Augsburg. Beteiligt sind zudem auch regionale Industriepartner. Ziel ist eine gemeinsame Erforschung KI-basierter Produktionstechnologien an der Schnittstelle zwischen Werkstoffen, Fertigungstechnologien, datenbasierter Modellierung und digitalen Geschäftsmodellen.

The renewed SWG-FIRST124 is a synthesis of all of SHIMA SEIKI’s experience and know-how in computerized shaped knitting, realizing a tremendous range of knitting from full-fashioning and rib shaping to integral knitting. Plating can be performed within the same course and for individual needles. In combination with the loop presser and spring-type moveable sinker system even greater diversity in knit design is possible.

APEXFiz™ is subscription-based design software that supports the creative side of fashion from planning and design to colorway evaluation, realistic fabric simulation and 3D virtual sampling. Virtual samples are a digitized version of sample making that are accurate enough to be used effectively as prototypes, replacing physical sampling and consequently reducing time, cost and material that otherwise go to waste. APEXFiz™ thereby helps to realize sustainability and digitally transform the fashion supply chain.

Continuing from past editions of Pitti Filati are knit samples produced in collaboration with Italian designer Vittorio Branchizio. Staff at the SHIMA SEIKI booth will be donning knit uniforms produced as a collaborative effort between SHIMA SEIKI ITALIA, knitting companies and yarn companies.

Freudenberg endorses further products with ECO-CHECK label

Freudenberg Performance Materials (Freudenberg) is endorsing further sustainable products with its ECO-CHECK label introduced last year. These products comply with various environmental criteria. With immediate effect, five more solutions bear the label making the company’s commitment to sustainability visible.

Leather goods
The newly-endorsed ECO-CHECK products include one Evolon® microfilament textile application. This is a reinforcement material for leather goods that is manufactured with no solvent and no binder. It contains up to 80 percent recycled PET and is suitable for a broad range of applications. The material is produced at Freudenberg’s facility in Colmar, France, where the manufacturing process is highly sustainable: it is certified to STeP by OEKO-TEX® and fully complies with the DETOX TO ZERO by OEKO-TEX® criteria.

Healthcare applications
In the field of healthcare, the bio-based M 1714 wound pad with superior absorption for more challenging wounds has now been endorsed with the ECO-CHECK label. The dressing consists of a mix of bio-based fibers derived from natural sources and exhibits a smooth wound contact layer. The product has been evaluated for industrial compostability and conforms to ISO 13432.

Architectural applications
The sustainable TF 400 Eco F mesh fabric for textile architecture from Mehler Texnologies® now also bears the ECO-CHECK label. Its yarn is made of 100% recycled PET bottles and its characteristics are very similar to those of conventional mesh fabrics. In 2021, it was awarded first place by the Architectural Membrane Association (AMA) in the “product” category in recognition of its properties.

Shoes
In the shoe industry, the binder-free strobel insoles have been endorsed as particularly sustainable. They contain a high percentage of recycled green bottle flakes. Moreover, the insoles themselves are fully recyclable.

Filtration applications
The two layered, needle-punched nonwoven filter medium that has just been endorsed with the ECO-CHECK label has impressive sustainability characteristics. Made entirely of polyester, more than half the fibers consist of recycled material.

Bluesign has teamed up with Sustainable Chemistry for the Textile Industry (SCTITM) to develop a sustainable chemistry index that shall provide a standard communication guide for chemical suppliers, manufacturers, brands, and NGOs.

The first-of-its-kind index is intended to inspire change in the industry by making it easier for stakeholders to assess the sustainability of textile chemical products against the highest standards while safeguarding the intellectual property (IP) of participating chemical companies. IP protection is critical to ensuring ongoing investment in sustainable solutions.

Chemical products, such as dyes and textile auxiliaries, are often characterized with the attribute of “free of a certain substance”. Rather than prioritizing ingredients only, the bluesign® SYSTEM already goes beyond this. The chemicals and the production site where they were created must meet certain criteria regarding environmental performance, occupational health and safety, and product stewardship performance to be bluesign® APPROVED.

Bluesign will implement and manage the sustainable chemistry index as an independent authority with a holistic approach to helping companies throughout the textile supply chain improve their sustainability performance.

Monforts introduces range of modular upgrades

Monforts is introducing a range of modular upgrades that can be added to existing finishing lines already in production.

The Monforts universal Energy Tower – a flexible, free-standing air/air heat exchanger for recovering the heat from the exhaust air flow of thermal processes – can result in a 30% reduction in the energy consumed by a line, depending on the exhaust air volume and operating temperature.

A Monforts Eco Booster, completely integrated into the chamber design of the Montex stenter, is another retrofitting option. As a single state-of-the-art heat recovery system with automatic cleaning, it can be added to existing ranges. For ranges of up to eight chambers only one module is necessary to achieve significant energy savings.

On an eight-chamber stenter with an operating width of two metres carrying out a fixing process on a 150gsm woven fabric, for example, the energy savings have been calculated to be 35% over an annual schedule of 6,000 operating hours.

In addition, the Eco Booster consumes only minimal amounts of water during the cleaning cycle and the entire process is controlled and monitored automatically.

The Matex Eco Applicator is an alternative to the conventional padding process for energy-conscious finishing and achieving considerable savings in the energy required for drying treated fabrics. The precise amount of chemical can be applied to the fabric and with less residual moisture after application of only approximately 35% so that less drying capacity is required in the stenter, which leads to huge energy savings.

Finishes can be evenly applied on either or both sides of the fabric, and two separate treatments can be applied to front and back. This makes the unit ideal for the production of, for example, double-performance hydrophobic/hydrophilic fabrics for professional clothing, as well as the over dyeing or finishing of denim fabrics.

Suominen strengthens its capabilities in sustainable products by enhancing and upgrading one of its production lines in Nakkila, Finland. The investment is made in line with Suominen’s strategy and supports company’s vision to be a frontrunner in sustainability.

“As we foresaw in our strategy the market demand in Europe has changed remarkably towards more sustainable products. With this investment we respond to the increased demand for environmentally friendly products and also enhance our operational performance in terms of safety, quality and productivity,” says Petri Helsky, President and CEO of Suominen.

The total value of the investment is approximately EUR 6 million and the investment project will be completed in the second half of 2023.

The areas of application are predominantly of a technical nature, with the largest applications being durable geotextiles, automotive textiles and filter media. The high adaptability of the needling and finishing processes as well as the broad material base result in a large number of different end products. Needle-punching is suitable for a wide range of man-made and natural fibers including mineral and high-performance fibers.

Archroma introduces new technology for the repellence of water-based stains

Archroma launches Smartrepel® Hydro SR liq, a new PFC-free* technology for the repellence of water-based stains.

The innovation has been developed in line with the principles of “The Archroma Way to a Sustainable World: Safe, efficient, enhanced, it’s our nature”.

Smartrepel® Hydro SR liq is the latest addition to a range of micro-encapsulated, highly biodegradable, non-PFC based technology offering durable water repellency to all cotton and synthetic fibers, and their blends.

The new Smartrepel® Hydro SR liq has been specifically developed for soil repellent finishes aiming to offer protection against water-based stains such as coffee, red wine and ketchup, in applications such as home textiles, table clothes upholstery, car seats and interior textiles.

The new grade offers the signature Smartrepel® high performance standard: a symbiosis of water protection, soil repellence, breathability and durability – with the soft hand-feel that is sought after by consumers.

Archroma launches Smartrepel® Hydro SR liq, a new PFC-free* technology for the repellence of water-based stains.

Smartrepel® Hydro SR liq is the latest addition to a range of micro-encapsulated, highly biodegradable, non-PFC based technology offering durable water repellency to all cotton and synthetic fibers, and their blends.

The new Smartrepel® Hydro SR liq has been specifically developed for soil repellent finishes aiming to offer protection against water-based stains such as coffee, red wine and ketchup, in applications such as home textiles, table clothes upholstery, car seats and interior textiles.

The new grade offers the signature Smartrepel® high performance standard: a symbiosis of water protection, soil repellence, breathability and durability – with the soft hand-feel that is sought after by consumers.

The Smartrepel® product range supports the increasing adoption of eco-advanced materials and production processes by textile producers and brand owners adhering to standards such as ZDHC, bluesign and Oeko-tex.

The Reifenhäuser Group will be represented with four booths at the world's leading trade fair for plastics processing, K 2022, from October 19 to 26. The component specialists of the Reifenhäuser Extrusion Systems business unit will additionally present their portfolio at two other exhibition booths. Here, everything revolves around screws, barrels and extruders - and why, especially for processing recycled material, high-performance wear protection is essential for reliability and high economic efficiency. Reifenhäuser Extrusion Systems will also showcase its innovations for flat dies and coextrusion blocks and their coordinated interaction for maximum productivity.

In addition to its own booths, Reifenhäuser will also be present as a partner of the R-Cycle initiative as part of a joint pavilion on the open-air site in the so-called Circular Economy Forum. R-Cycle is a cooperation project of various technology companies and organizations along the entire life cycle of plastic packaging.
