The Lenzing Group has published a combined annual and sustainability report for the first time, reaffirming the strategic importance of social and environmental responsibility for the company. With the title “Ready to join?”, Lenzing would like to extend an invitation to all customers and partners to join forces to renew the textile and nonwovens industries and bring about positive change.

Hohenstein releases 2023 sustainability report

The report details sustainability efforts at its Boennigheim headquarters and targets for 2024. Hohenstein has replaced previous environmental guidelines with strategic development in accordance with Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) and adopted a sustainability roadmap for the future.

Hohenstein has been implementing environmental and social measures for decades. As the first neutral assessment of these measures in 2019, Hohenstein participated in the ECOfit programme in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. A regular external assessment is to be introduced in 2024.

The report details sustainability efforts at its Boennigheim headquarters and targets for 2024. Hohenstein has replaced previous environmental guidelines with strategic development in accordance with Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) and adopted a sustainability roadmap for the future.

Hohenstein has been implementing environmental and social measures for decades. As the first neutral assessment of these measures in 2019, Hohenstein participated in the ECOfit programme in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. A regular external assessment is to be introduced in 2024.

  • Environmental: Overall, energy consumption was actively reduced, and renewable energy use promoted. Hohenstein also collected rail and air travel data to be used in CO2 accounting in 2024.
  • Social: Hohenstein actively involved its employees in sustainability activities based on a survey and internal education. In future, Hohenstein will improve the ratio of female managers and implement a training campaign on the company values for employees.
  • Governance: Hohenstein management has prioritized good communication through regular colloquia for employees and access to human resources consultation. They intend to intensify the dialogue with employees through further events.

The Sustainability Report 2022, which is now digitally available summarizes key ecological, economic, and social developments.
The report shows that the CHT Group has defined and anchored sustainability as an integral part of its corporate strategy.

"Climate neutrality" and comprehensive social responsibility  
In the implementation of the sustainability strategy of the CHT Group, the field of action "climate neutrality" takes a central role. The CHT Group has set itself the goal of being climate neutral both in its own production and in the supply chain from the year 2045. The path to climate neutrality by 2045 is illustrated in the report as part of the strategic goal.

In addition to climate protection, social responsibility is also a top priority for the CHT Group. The continuous improvement of health protection and occupational safety is a top priority for the company.

From CHT's point of view, qualified and committed employees make a significant contribution to the company's future success. For this reason, the CHT Group promotes the professional and personal development of its workforce to a high degree and invests in future-oriented and targeted training and further education of its workforce.

For the CHT Group, the respect for human rights is an indispensable pillar of the corporate culture and an essential part of the group-wide Code of Conduct. In 2022, the Human Rights Compliance Policy Statement was developed, and compliance processes and measures were put in place to prevent any violations and identify and mitigate human rights related risks.

CWS legt Nachhaltigkeitsbericht 2022/2023 vor

Bis 2030 will CWS seinen CO2e-Fußabdruck mindestens um die Hälfte reduzieren. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, hat das Unternehmen eine Dekarbonisierungsstrategie mit 19 Initiativen für alle Geschäftsbereiche erarbeitet. Im Vordergrund der Strategie steht die Optimierung der Energienutzung, um unnötige Emissionen zu vermeiden oder auf ein Minimum zu senken. Zusätzlich soll die Energieversorgung auf grüne Energien umgestellt werden, insbesondere durch von CWS selbst produzierten Solarstrom.

Um Emissionen zu verringern, ist die Lieferkette von entscheidender Bedeutung. 74% der Treibhausgase entstehen jenseits der eigenen Standorte, insbesondere in der vorgelagerten Wertschöpfung, beim Einkauf von Materialien und Dienstleistungen.

Um herauszufinden, wo die Emissionsschwerpunkte in der Lieferkette und damit das größte Potenzial für Reduzierungsmaßnahmen liegt, arbeitete CWS mit dem Softwareunternehmen für Carbon Accounting Normative zusammen. Der Ansatz ermöglicht es, Hotspots für Emissionen in den Lieferketten zu identifizieren und gemeinsam mit den Zulieferern anzugehen.

Dies ist Teil der übergreifenden Initiative Enkelfähig der Haniel Gruppe, zu der CWS gehört. Die Unternehmensgruppe ist überzeugt, dass Nachhaltigkeit nicht nur eine Aufgabe unter vielen, sondern eng mit wirtschaftlichem Erfolg und unternehmerischer Verantwortung verknüpft ist. Bei CWS bedeutet das neben der Dekarbonisierung des Unternehmens, alle Materialien und Produkte entlang ihres Lebenszyklus nachhaltig und umweltschonend anzubieten. Bis 2025 will CWS mehr als 90% ihres Neugeschäfts ausschließlich mit nachhaltigen Produkten generieren.

Die vier CWS Geschäftsbereiche Hygiene, Workwear, Cleanrooms und Fire Safety arbeiten zu diesem Zweck eigenständig an Konzepten und Maßnahmen. Alle Produkte werden so lange wie möglich im Sinne des eigenen Leitsatzes Think Circular im Servicekreislauf gehalten. Die Produkte sind aus besonders langlebigen und möglichst recycelten Materialien hergestellt. Beschädigte Produkte werden im Servicemodell professionell repariert, bevor sie ausgetauscht werden. Im Anschluss wird zahlreichen Produkten durch innovative Upcycling-Projekte ein zweites Leben geschenkt – beispielsweise als modische Kleidung des Upcycling-Designers Daniel Kroh oder als Material für die Designkonzepte der Initiative Accelerating Circularity, die die Textilindustrie mit Hilfe von zirkulären Modellen transformieren will.  

CWS Hygiene legt einen großen Fokus auf die Modernisierung der Serviceflotte mit Elektrofahrzeugen und optimiert die Routen, um die Fahrtzeiten kurz zu halten. Mit der Stoffhandtuchrolle setzt CWS Hygiene schon seit vielen Jahren auf ein besonders nachhaltiges Hygieneprodukt. Außerdem wird in den Wäschereien sukzessive auf recycelte Seifenflaschen umgestellt und Wasser energiesparend aufbereitet.

Die Modernisierung des Fuhrparks und der Einsatz von Recyclingmaterialien spielen auch bei CWS Workwear eine entscheidende Rolle. In der Produktion der Arbeitskleidung kommt neben umweltfreundlicher Viskose recyceltes Polyester zum Einsatz. Bei der Rohstoff-Beschaffung wird auf fair gehandelte Waren geachtet, zu diesem Zweck besteht eine Kooperation mit dem gemeinnützigen Verein Fairtrade Deutschland. Mit dem PROcircular hat CWS Workwear außerdem ein komplett recyceltes T-Shirt entwickelt.

Das gilt ebenfalls für die Reinraumkleidung von CWS Cleanrooms, die 60- bis 80-mal gewaschen werden kann, bevor sie entsorgt werden muss. Zunehmend stellt der Geschäftsbereich die Produktpalette auf umwelt- und ressourcenschonende Produkte um, wie den MicroSicuro CR/A-R, einen Mehrweg-Moppbezug aus 76 % recycelten Polyesterfasern. Die Reinraumwäschereien von CWS Cleanrooms entsprechen neuesten Energie- und Wärmestandards, zukünftig soll die erste vollständig klimaneutrale Wäscherei entstehen.

Bei CWS Fire Safety stehen neben dem Wasserverbrauch vor allem die Schaumlöschmittel im Fokus der Anstrengungen: Löschmittel sind zu 90 % fluorfrei, was die Umweltbelastung durch schwer abbaubare PFAS-Chemikalien verhindert. Damit hat CWS Fire Safety PFAS bereits vor einer gesetzlichen Regelung nahezu vollständig aus seinen Löschmitteln verbannt. Außerdem sollen in Kooperation mit dem dänischen Unternehmen VID immer häufiger moderne Wassernebellöschanlagen eingesetzt werden, die 60 bis 80 % weniger Wasser verbrauchen als herkömmliche Sprinkleranlagen.

Nachhaltiger Transport
Epson konzentriert sich auf den Aufbau einer auf Nachhaltigkeit optimierten Lieferkette. In Europa liegen die Schwerpunkte der Maßnahmen insbesondere bei dem Transport von Waren. Durch die Umstellung der Fahrzeugflotte auf Elektro-, Hybrid- und schadstoffarme Fahrzeuge konnten die Emissionen pro Fahrzeug auf unter 105 g CO2 pro 100 km gesenkt werden. Die Optimierung der Ladeflächennutzung führte dazu, dass knapp zehn Prozent mehr Waren pro Palette transportiert wurden. Durch die Umstellung von Luft- auf Seefracht beim Warentransport sowie die Eröffnung eines neuen Lagers konnten über 6,8 Millionen kg COeingespart werden.

Nachhaltige Technologien für Kunden
Epson entwickelt Technologien, die Kunden bei der Verwirklichung ihrer Nachhaltigkeitsziele helfen. Ein Beispiel hierfür sind die EcoTank-Drucker. Die Geräte arbeiten mit Tintentanks und reduzieren damit den Abfall von Patronen. Insgesamt wurden bis dato mehr als 70 Millionen Drucker verkauft. Energieeffiziente Micro-Piezo Tintenstrahldrucker mit der Epson-eigenen Heat-Free-Technologie können bis zu 83 Prozent energieeffizienter sein als Laserdrucker.

Der japanische Konzern forscht darüber hinaus an neuen Umwelttechnologien, dazu gehören u.a. Biokunststoffe. Als Teil eines Konsortiums arbeitet das Unternehmen an einem Biomasse-Kunststoff aus Meeresalgen. Ziel ist es bis 2030 jährlich 200.000 Tonnen davon zu produzieren.

Stärken von Bildung durch Technologie
Bildung ist für Epson als wichtiger Faktor für eine nachhaltige Zukunft von entscheidender Bedeutung. Das Unternehmen arbeitet daran, dieses Bewusstsein sowohl intern als auch bei Partnern, Zulieferern, Kunden und in der Gesellschaft als Ganzes zu stärken.

Zu diesem breiteren gesellschaftlichen Engagement gehört auch der Austausch mit Kindern und jungen Erwachsenen. In Europa hat Epson die Bildungsinitiative New Horizons ins Leben gerufen. Sie soll 10.000 Teilnehmende pro Jahr ansprechen und ihnen Informationen und Technologien zur Verfügung stellen, mit denen sie die Bedeutungen und Zusammenhänge besser verstehen und die Auswirkungen ihres Handelns besser einschätzen können.

The focus is on personnel development, energy and water consumption as well as company-wide emissions and waste behavior. CHT highlights in this report the group-wide projects for climate protection as well as the sustainable products and solutions. The report has been prepared in accordance with the GRI standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) based on the core option.

With the "Green Deal", the EU Commission is pursuing ambitious climate targets, in the implementation of which the CHT Group is actively involved as part of the VCI initiative "chemistry4climate".
The Group's goal is to become climate-neutral by 2045. To underpin this ambitious target, at the end of 2021 the CHT Group signed up to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and committed to the 1.5°C target.
For 2021, the first carbon footprint (Scope 1+2) was prepared for the CHT Group, which now serves as the basis for greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.

They vividly and exemplarily demonstrate the efforts to achieve the company's own sustainable and strategic goals, which are derived from the United Nations Development Goals (SDGs).

With the goal of continuous improvement, the 2021 report has a broader reporting boundary compared to prior years and takes into consideration all the Group companies, including sales and service companies. Over 30 sites located across Asia, North America, South America and Europe have provided their 2021 data on economic, social and environmental performance.

With the goal of continuous improvement, the 2021 report has a broader reporting boundary compared to prior years and takes into consideration all the Group companies, including sales and service companies. Over 30 sites located across Asia, North America, South America and Europe have provided their 2021 data on economic, social and environmental performance.

Not only indicators of a financial nature but also measures of environmental impact (E), social values (S) and good organizational governance (G): the latter so-called ESG criteria have become a priority for RadiciGroup, which is preparing for the new European Union non-financial reporting directive in order to contribute to the transition towards a fully sustainable economic system and increase the value of its companies.

On the environmental front, the themes of climate change and decarbonization are RadiciGroup priorities and part of a policy aimed at the uncoupling of growth and resource usage. The Group undertakes to lower emissions from production and choose limited-impact energy sources. This commitment is confirmed by the numbers: in the 2011-2021 period, total emissions per metric ton produced were reduced by 60%, while renewable source energy used by the Group reached 51.7%. Specific investments to decrease environmental impact are ongoing: in 2021, EUR 3.1 million were allocated to introduce best available techniques and improve emissions abatement and energy efficiency.

RadiciGroup promotes professional growth by valuing competence and investment in training: Group training hours once again rose after the pandemic period from 36,000 hours in 2020 to 46,000 hours in 2021. The training method was often a hybrid, taking advantage of aspects experimented with during the pandemic, that is, less traveling and use of facilities in favour of higher groupwide attendance, without the need for participation limits. Fifty-five percent of total training hours was dedicated to health and safety, which has yielded positive results based on the related indicators.

CHT Group generates 62% of 2020 sales with sustainable products

The report has been prepared in accordance with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and is based on the Core option. The focus is on human resources development, energy and water consumption as well as company-wide emissions and waste management.

Particularly noteworthy here is the group-wide reduction in specific resource consumption in the areas under review. In relation to the volume produced, for example, the following key figures show the reduction of environmental impacts:

The report has been prepared in accordance with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and is based on the Core option. The focus is on human resources development, energy and water consumption as well as company-wide emissions and waste management.

Particularly noteworthy here is the group-wide reduction in specific resource consumption in the areas under review. In relation to the volume produced, for example, the following key figures show the reduction of environmental impacts:

  • 21% share of renewable energies in total consumption
  • 440,000 EUR investment in environmental protection and nature conservation
  • 5.8% less energy consumption and less CO2 emission

62% of CHT Group's 2020 sales were generated with sustainable products. For this, 91% of the strategic raw material volume was sourced from suppliers classified as sustainable.

At the center of the report are the current working topics and outlooks that showcase CHT's commitment to sustainability and its innovative strength to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CHT considers 11 of the SDGs to be particularly relevant for the future of the Group of companies. For this reason, the recently revised global corporate strategy is directly geared to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
