Engpass Lieferkette und Warenversorgung - IMPACT 10
Nach Ifo-Umfragen leiden fast alle Modehändler unter Lieferproblemen und sie rechnen damit, dass diese Versorgungslücken noch weit in das Jahr 2022 andauern. Während es in Lockdown-Zeiten noch darum ging, die Warenversorgung mit Hinblick auf Unsicherheit bzgl. der Öffnungszeiten im Textileinzelhandel möglichst flexibel zu halten, kämpfen die Lieferanten nun überwiegend damit, die Ware zielgenau aus den Produktionsländern in die Absatzmärkte zu schaffen. Die Hersteller müssen mit Herausforderungen wie Rohstoffverknappung, Containerstaus und Hafenschließungen umgehen. Wer seine Supply-Chain also bestmöglich im Griff hat, verfügt über einen Wettbewerbsvorteil gegenüber Lieferanten, deren Ware nicht zum geplanten Abverkaufszeitpunkt am POS eingetroffen ist. Hierbei gilt es zum einen den Anteil aus Fernost und Nearshore Produktion auszubalancieren. Aber auch operative Spielregeln in der Warenlogistik müssen berücksichtigt werden. Die Digitalisierung spielt auch weiter eine tragende Rolle, wenn es darum geht Prozesse unternehmensweit schlank und fit zu machen, um so den steigenden Einkaufs- und Logistikkosten entgegenzuwirken.

Wirksame Pillen für die Performance – IMPACT 9
Gerade in wirtschaftlich herausfordernden Zeiten mit steigenden Beschaffungskosten kommt es drauf an, die „richtigen Pillen zu schlucken“, die zu einer Verbesserung der Performance beitragen. Pricing ist der eine Hebel. Im hochwertigen Segment wird bereits versucht, durch selektiven Vertrieb die Preise und Margen zu erhöhen. Doch nicht immer sind Preisanpassungen möglich, vor allem wenn Eckpreislagen gehalten werden müssen oder die Macht des Handels zu groß ist. Umso mehr rücken die eigenen Kosten in den Fokus. Viele Einsparpotenziale, die während der Corona-Hochphase eingeführt wurden, können in den „Regelbetrieb“ überführt werden. Dazu gehört z.B. die Senkung der Marketing-/Vertriebskosten durch digitales Ordern und andere Prozessoptimierungen. Doch das allein reicht nicht: Weitere Kostenstellhebel für die operative Exzellenz liegen erfahrungsgemäß im Einkauf, in der Logistik und Supply Chain, im Neuproduktentwicklungsprozess sowie last but noch least in den Gemeinkosten. In allen Segmenten spielt die Digitalisierung eine Schlüsselrolle: Digitale Prozesse und Vernetzung sowie digitale Tools sind erforderlich, um effizienter, robuster und damit renditestärker zu werden.

Konsequente Nachhaltigkeit im gesamten Geschäftsmodell - IMPACT 8
Das Thema „Nachhaltigkeit“ ist durch die Pandemie zunächst in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung etwas in den Hintergrund gerückt. Gleichzeitig haben die meisten Unternehmen den gesellschaftlichen und politischen Druck sowie die zunehmende Wichtigkeit für den Endverbraucher erkannt und zahlreiche Initiativen und konkrete Maßnahmen in diese Richtung gestartet. Für echte Nachhaltigkeit in der Textilbranche reichen einzelne Projekte jedoch nicht. Die Dimensionen „Planet“, „People“ und „Performance“ müssen konsequent angegangen werden. Umweltfaktoren (Planet) sind z.B. nachhaltige Praktiken in der der Rohstoffgewinnung (inkl. Recyclinganteilen), Verringerung des Wasserverbrauchs in der Produktion oder die Reduktion von Verpackungsabfällen. In der Dimension „People“ sind insbesondere die sozialen Standards in der Produktion im Fokus. Wer nachhaltig am Markt vertreten zu sein will,  braucht zudem ein robustes Geschäftsmodell, das nachhaltig gute Ergebnisse liefert, um auch in die Zukunft investieren zu können (Performance). Nur so sind Unternehmen auch krisenresistent.

RGE: Second Annual Update on Textile Fibre Innovation and Technology

Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) has released its 2021 progress report on its commitment to invest USD200 million in next-generation textile fibre innovation and technology over a ten-year period which started in 2019.

The annual report provides an update on the activities undertaken by RGE and its business groups (Sateri, APR, APRIL, Bracell) involved in the fashion value chain to advance its ambition towards closed-loop, circular and climate-positive cellulosic fibre.

In 2021, Sateri achieved full compliance with the emission limits set out in the European Union Best Available Techniques Reference Document (EU-BAT BREF) for all of its five viscose mills in China, two years ahead of schedule. Bracell completed construction of the world’s largest and greenest new generation pulp mill in São Paulo which uses cutting-edge technology for fossil fuel-free generation.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to restrict travel and collaboration, RGE persisted in building upon existing partnerships, while entering into new agreements. Sateri strengthened its strategic collaboration with Infinited Fiber Company, participating in the company’s EUR30 million funding round, which attracted new and existing investors such as H&M Group, Adidas, BESTSELLER and Zalando.

New partnerships formed by RGE included a five-year textile recycling research collaboration with Nanyang Technological University Singapore, and a three-year strategic partnership with the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore which seeks, among others goals, to advance research and innovation in circular economy approaches to fashion waste in Asia.

RGE’s in-house R&D team has made good progress in advancing its textile-to-textile project, focusing on producing quality viscose using recycled cotton textiles as feedstock. To support plans to build a textile recycling facility in Indonesia, and as part of commercial feasibility analysis, studies examining the availability of textile waste and textile recycling landscapes in China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were completed.

Sateri remains on track in developing a product with 50 per cent recycled content by 2023, and to reach 100 per cent by 2030. It also aims for 20 per cent of its feedstock to contain alternative or recycled materials by 2025. In this similar vein, APR will source 20 per cent of its feedstock from alternative or recycled materials by 2030.

Perfect presentation platform: the CHIC Matching area
The expanded matchmaking events at CHIC were also enthusiastically received.
In total, over 37 matchmaking events took place in the specially set up matching area consisting of several presentation platforms and private negotiation rooms at the fair. From company presentations by industry giants such as Shein, through trade fair tours to selected one-on-one discussions, CHIC brought exhibitors and visitors together in a targeted manner. More than 600 participants have been matched by this CHIC event. Among them visitors such as Shein, Walmart, Wang Yi Yan Xuan, Tiktok, BAILIAN GROUP, LIQUN etc, parts of the organizer's broad network.

Continuing growth: sustainable productions
Sustainability is one of the most important consumer trends in China. CHIC played the theme in all exhibition areas; from womenswear, kidswear and menswear to accessories, sustainable collections were represented in all segments.

Design talent and traditional styles
In the IMPULSES area, innovative designer brands showed inspiring trends, high-quality collections and fashion variety like Kmusso, MIJA or Yu Jian Tian with its new design collection made by natural materials such as mulberry silk and wool, presenting the unique traditional Chinese style.

CHIC Shanghai presented the entire range of the fashion business in a total of 12 exhibition segments. This year's acclaimed visual concept, created by lava beijing, has been awarded the Bronze Award of the Hiiibrand Awards 2021 in the Identity category.

Digital tools and physical events
In addition to the on-site trade fair offer, CHIC is expanding its reach through the consistent use of digital tools. The CHIC app combines all the functions needed for a successful trade fair participation, from the digital trade fair catalog and matchmaking to direct appointments and live chats for all participants who cannot be on site.

The next CHIC in Shanghai will take place in March 2022.

NCTO launches Video highlighting Healthcare Workers & U.S. PPE Supply Chain

The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), representing the full spectrum of U.S. textiles, from fiber through finished sewn products, released an illuminating video and social media campaign detailing the heroic efforts of U.S. textile manufacturers to supply desperately needed medical personal protective equipment (PPE) at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The video features interviews with healthcare workers who confronted a once-in-a-generation health crisis and American textile and apparel executives, who came together to manufacture lifesaving PPE as the pandemic intensified and, once again in 2021, when President Biden issued a call to deliver 20 million American-made face masks for underserved communities in 60 days.

The report is written in accordance with the GRI Standards: Core option, while using the Integrated Reporting <IR> framework to communicate how DyStar drives value creation across multiple stakeholder groups in six capital categories, namely financial, manufactured, intellectual, natural, human capital and social capital.

In FY2020, COVID-19 has continued to present its challenges, such as the shortage of raw materials and rising freight costs. Gloomy global demand has also resulted in some raw and product material wastage in production plants worldwide, leading to increased non-hazardous waste output for FY2020. DyStar recognizes these global factors in play and will continue to make active efforts within the organization’s capability to reduce its environmental footprint in the years ahead.

BVMed-Herbstumfrage zu Umsätzen

| Die Medizintechnik-Branche zeigt sich von den starken Umsatzeinbrüchen im Corona-Krisenjahr 2020 leicht erholt. Nach einem Umsatzrückgang von 2,1 Prozent im Vorjahr erwartet die Branche in diesem Jahr in Deutschland ein Umsatzwachstum von 3,0 Prozent, weltweit von 3,1 Prozent. Das Vor-Corona-Niveau mit einem Wachstum von 4,2 Prozent im Inland und 5,8 Prozent weltweit ist aber noch lange nicht erreicht. Das ist das Ergebnis der BVMed-Herbstumfrage, die BVMed-Geschäftsführer Dr. Marc-Pierre Möll auf der digitalen Jahrespressekonferenz des MedTech-Verbandes vorstellte. An der Herbstumfrage nahmen 110 Mitgliedsunternehmen des BVMed teil. Die Gewinnsituation der Unternehmen ist durch gestiegene Rohstoff- und Logistikkosten stark angespannt. „Dennoch bleibt die Branche ein Jobmotor, die Zahl der Arbeitsplätze steigt weiter“, so Möll.

NCTO: U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai highlights U.S. Textile Industry

Milliken & Company and American & Efird (A&E) hosted United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Katherine Tai in two separate visits to the companies’ state-of-the-art textile manufacturing facilities, marking an unprecedented visit to the heart of the U.S. textile industry in the Carolinas by the nation’s top trade chief.

Ambassador Tai’s visit comes at a pivotal time for the U.S. textile supply chain, which produced $64 billion in output in 2020 and employed nearly 530,000 workers. The industry has been at the forefront of a domestic production chain manufacturing over a billion personal protective equipment (PPE) items during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Milliken & Company and American & Efird (A&E) hosted United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Katherine Tai in two separate visits to the companies’ state-of-the-art textile manufacturing facilities, marking an unprecedented visit to the heart of the U.S. textile industry in the Carolinas by the nation’s top trade chief.

Ambassador Tai’s visit comes at a pivotal time for the U.S. textile supply chain, which produced $64 billion in output in 2020 and employed nearly 530,000 workers. The Ambassador’s visit to Milliken included a tour of the company’s Magnolia plant in Blacksburg, S.C., and a roundtable discussion highlighting the important role women contribute to textiles, the critical need for policies supporting a domestic supply chain, and the significant impact of the sector to the U.S. economy. Milliken is one of the largest textile companies in the U.S., employing more than 6,000 associates domestically and an additional 1,350 associates globally. Milliken’s Textile Business alone employs 2,500 people across eight counties in South Carolina and is the fourth largest manufacturing employer in the Upstate.

On the second leg of her trip, Ambassador Tai visited American & Efird’s manufacturing facility in Mount Holly, N.C. American & Efird operates as part of Elevate Textiles and its global portfolio of advanced products and distinguished textile brands, including A&E, Burlington, Cone Denim, Gütermann and Safety Components, and representing more than 500 years of textile manufacturing knowledge.

During the visit, U.S. textile executives spanning the fiber, yarn, fabric, and finished product textile and apparel industry participated in a roundtable with the Ambassador at which they discussed the competitiveness of the domestic industry, outlined priority issues in Washington, such as the importance of the Western Hemisphere co-production chain and ways to jointly support domestic supply chains through Buy American and Berry Amendment policies that help onshore production, spur investment, maintain the safety and security of our armed forces and generate new jobs.

Finavia: Antibacterial Coating Solution at Airport

Airport company Finavia will start using Finnish technology company Nanoksi Finland Oy’s coating solution at Helsinki Airport. The coating can be used to remove viruses and bacteria from airport surfaces and furniture.

“We are continuously keeping track of new methods and products to ensure a high level of hygiene at the airport. This nanotechnology-based coating, which is sprayed on contact surfaces and furniture, makes it easier to keep surfaces clean. The coating destroys pathogens with the help of light and air,” says Sami Kiiskinen, Finavia’s Vice President, Airport Development for Helsinki Airport.

The coating is sprayed on targets such as check-in counters, machines, departure gates and toilet facilities. The coating lasts for a long time, even though the furniture is wiped several times a day.

Airport company Finavia will start using Finnish technology company Nanoksi Finland Oy’s coating solution at Helsinki Airport. The coating can be used to remove viruses and bacteria from airport surfaces and furniture.

“We are continuously keeping track of new methods and products to ensure a high level of hygiene at the airport. This nanotechnology-based coating, which is sprayed on contact surfaces and furniture, makes it easier to keep surfaces clean. The coating destroys pathogens with the help of light and air,” says Sami Kiiskinen, Finavia’s Vice President, Airport Development for Helsinki Airport.

The coating is sprayed on targets such as check-in counters, machines, departure gates and toilet facilities. The coating lasts for a long time, even though the furniture is wiped several times a day.

The effectiveness of the Fotonit® photocatalytic coating developed by Finnish nanotechnology company Nanoksi Finland Oy has been confirmed by research at the University of Tampere. Photocatalysis can destroy 98% of pathogens such as influenza viruses in two hours. The coating has been awarded the Key Flag Symbol as an indication of its high domestic content.

Autumn Editions of Intertextile Shanghai and Yarn Expo postponed

In light of recent Covid-19 cases in China, the Autumn Editions of Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles and Yarn Expo will be rescheduled to 9 – 11 October 2021. The fairs were originally due to take place at the end of August at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).

DTV: Massive Kostensteigerungen belasten die Textilservice-Branche

Der Lockdown ist vorbei, die Infektionszahlen sinken. Wie viele Wirtschaftsbereiche hofft auch die Textilservice-Branche für das 2. Halbjahr 2021 auf Erholung. Preissteigerungen bei Energie, Textilien und Löhnen machen der Branche jedoch zu schaffen. So sind die Baumwollpreise seit Jahresbeginn je nach Sorte um bis zu 50 Prozent gestiegen. Der Deutsche Textilreinigungs-Verband warnt vor gefährlichen Preiskämpfen innerhalb der Branche.

Nachdem die Textilservice-Branche in den vergangenen Monaten durch die Lockdown-Maßnahmen und den damit verbundenen Schließungen von Hotellerie und Gastronomie bereits mit massiven Umsatzeinbrüchen zu kämpfen hatte, wird nun auch das Wiederhochfahren erschwert. Denn in vielen Kostenbereichen steigen die Preise. Hinzu kommen die Kosten durch die Corona-Pandemie, etwa in Form von Coronatests und zusätzlichen Hygienemaßnahmen.

Gleichzeitig ist der Konkurrenzdruck in der Branche enorm. Die Betriebe wollen ihre ebenfalls wirtschaftlich angeschlagenen Kunden nicht verlieren. Die steigenden Kosten lassen sich jedoch nicht wegdiskutieren. Der Deutsche Textilreinigungs-Verband (DTV) warnt vor diesem Hintergrund vor einem Preiskampf in der Branche, wie er sich bereits in anderen Ländern abgezeichnet.
Friedrich Eberhard, DTV-Präsident und Inhaber eines Textilservice-Unternehmens: „Jetzt, wo viele unserer Kundenbranchen wieder in Schwung kommen, sollten wir nicht mit Dumpingangeboten unsere hochwertige Dienstleistung auf dem Markt präsentieren, sondern die großen Kostensteigerungen auch realistisch einpreisen.“

Energie, Textilien und Löhne treiben die Kosten in die Höhe
Die Beschaffung von Textilien macht rund 23 Prozent der Kosten im Textilservice aus. Das macht sich vor allem deshalb deutlich bemerkbar, da der durchschnittliche Preisanstieg, für beispielsweise Polyesterfasern, von Mai 2020 bis Mai 2021 über 20 Prozent betrug. Der Preisanstieg bei Baumwolle lag je nach Sorte sogar bei bis zu 50 Prozent.

Auch bei den Personalkosten – sie stellen mit rund 45 Prozent den größten Kostenblock dar – gibt es massive Steigerungen. Der gesetzliche Mindestlohn steigt 2021 um insgesamt 2,6 Prozent. Bei den Tarifverträgen der Branche sind ähnliche Lohnsteigerungen beschlossen worden.

Nicht besser sieht es bei weiteren Rohstoffpreisen aus. Allein der Ölpreis hat sich in den vergangenen 12 Monaten nahezu verdoppelt. Für die Textilservice-Branche ist das hart. Energiekosten sind für Textilreinigungen und Wäschereien mit sieben Prozent ein großer Kostenfaktor. Und, die Problematik wird sich weiter verschärfen. So haben sich in den vergangenen Monaten die CO2 Zertifikate massiv verteuert. Lag der Preis im März 2020 noch bei unter 16 Euro je Tonne, notiert er im Mai 2021 bei rund 50 Euro und ist damit teurer denn je. Die Kostensteigerung ist politisch gewollt und eine Reduzierung ist nach den jüngsten Entscheidungen von Politik und Rechtsprechung nicht zu erwarten. Manche Experten rechnen sogar mit einer Verdoppelung der Zertifikatpreise noch in diesem Jahr.

Demnach geht es für Sportschuhe bis zum Jahr 2028 konsequent aufwärts. Schon im Corona-Jahr 2020 profitierten „Outdoor“ und „Running“ davon, dass Bewegung an der frischen Luft in Lockdown- und Home-Office-Zeiten zu den wenigen erlaubten Ausgleichsaktivitäten zählten. So legte das Running-Segment 2020 gegenüber 2019 um 2,3 Prozent zu, während der Sportartikelmarkt insgesamt um rund 4,5 Prozent nachgab. Und das Running-Wachstum wird sich fortsetzen, das zeigt der neue „Branchen-REPORT Sport 2021“. Demnach wird Running bis zum Jahr 2028 einen Umsatz von 718 Millionen Euro erreichen können. Mimaki supports Printers Worldwide in Global Innovation Days Event

Mimaki held their global event Innovation Days (2-4 June 2021) to great success. The event brought together printers, journalists and experts from Mimaki Japan, USA and Europe, to nurture innovation in the sign graphics, industrial, textile and 3D markets and drive success within the industry. The global event also introduced the market to Mimaki’s recent product releases, the JFX550, JFX600 and SUJV-160.

In a week of webinars, workshops, demonstrations, and networking events, over 1,300 attendees from all across the world logged in to participate, with the demonstration of UJV100 and JV100 printers, 3D printing workshop and car wrap workshop being the most popular events. As a first of its kind for Mimaki, visitors were able to speak with regional Mimaki representatives, gaining greater insight into the global printing industry as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

EURATEX Statement on the EU-US Summit

The European textile and apparel industry welcomes the organisation of the EU-US Summit in Brussels, and hopes that political leaders will launch a new era of closer cooperation across the Atlantic. Both the Covid19 pandemic and recent geopolitical tensions call for global solutions; the EU and the US should take a leadership role in developing that new global framework.

EU-US trade in textiles and apparel have dropped by nearly 20% in 2020 (just under €6 bln), while imports from other countries, in particular China, have increased spectacularly (+45% into the EU). At the same time, global supply chains came under pressure, and access to certain raw materials for the industry became difficult and costly.

Against this background, EURATEX does not call for protectionism, but a better functioning of global supply chains, with common rules which are applied by all. The EU and US authorities should put their full influence to establish a level playing field for our industry across the globe, promoting environmental and social standards. Sustainable and circular textiles should become the norm, thus contributing to a greener planet and creating high quality jobs.

At bilateral level, the EU and US should resume their work on mutual recognition of standards and certification procedures, thus saving considerable costs for our companies while maintaining the highest safety standards. Custom procedures can be simplified on both sides, and joint research, e.g. in smart textiles, should be promoted.

EURATEX welcomes the recent progress in provisionally eliminating additional duties on several American and European products due to the Airbus-Boeing trade dispute. It is a very positive sign that EURATEX would like to highlight in a particularly difficult context for the textile and clothing industry at European, American and even global levels. EURATEX calls on both US and EU institutions to eliminate such duties permanently and build on a common positive agenda for the benefit of EU and US companies and consumers.

EURATEX Director General Dirk Vantyghem commented: "Both the EU and US are developing a new business model for their industry. We should make sure these models can complement and reinforce each other. If not, we risk losing global leadership, not just in terms of market share but also in terms of values and standards."

EURATEX welcomes the fact that Textile and Clothing industry is recognised as one of the 14 essential ecosystems of the European economy, but we need to take effective measures to support these sectors, and take into consideration the global dimension.

On the occasion of releasing its 2021 Spring Report, EURATEX calls the European Institutions to implement a new Industrial Strategy which will effectively support the European textiles industry. EURATEX welcomes the fact that Textile and Clothing industry is recognised as one of the 14 essential ecosystems of the European economy, but we need to take effective measures to support these sectors, and take into consideration the global dimension.

Economic data for 2020 in EURATEX Spring Report show preoccupying trends. Figures reflect a dramatic contraction in demand and production: EU turnover contracted by -9.3% in textiles (which is in line with the general manufacturing average) and by -17.7% in clothing, compared with 2019. Furthermore, supply chain disruptions and substantial price increases of some raw materials are putting significant pressure on the T&C industries across Europe. The trade deficit for European textiles and clothing jumped from € -47 bln in 2019 to € -62 bln in 2020, an increase of more than 30%, which is almost entirely due to the import of Chinese face masks and related products. Fortunately, more recent figures from the 1st quarter of 2021 indicate some signs of recovery.

That figure illustrates very well today’s political discussions on the future of the European industry. Many European companies have made considerable efforts to adapt their production to the pandemic, but clearly this was not enough. Whether the production cost in Europe is too high or the EU should adapt its procurement rules, the industry needs have a coherent long-term plan to become more competitive and conquer new markets.

EURATEX General Assembly highlighted the critical role of the new EU Industrial Strategy. The inclusion of textiles and clothing in the fourteen ecosystems is a step in the right direction to consolidate the industrial base but we should look also at the global challenges. European companies should continue investing in innovation, design and quality, in combination with a structural move towards more sustainable textiles. At the same time, the EU should create an environment - both inside the Single Market and globally - where everybody plays by the same rules.

VDMA member companies at ITMA ASIA + CITME

Although affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, ITMA ASIA + CITME, which takes place mid-June in Shanghai, will see a convincing participation of VDMA member companies. 56 exhibitors from Germany will exhibit at this year’s edition of Asia’s major fair for textile machinery. Due to the pandemic and travel restrictions, this is much less than in 2018, when 99 exhibitors from Germany were present. The booked space of German companies has almost halved compared to 2018. Nevertheless, Germany is still the second largest exhibitor nation after China.

Due to the pandemic and travel restrictions, this is much less than in 2018, when 99 exhibitors from Germany were present. The booked space of German companies has almost halved compared to 2018. Nevertheless, Germany is still the second largest exhibitor nation after China.

European TCLF sectors: Social Partners demand safety for the industries and their workers

Following the European Commission’s update of the 2020 New Industrial Strategy: ‘’Building a stronger Single Market for Europe’s Recovery’’, the European Social Partners for the Textile, Clothing, Leather, and Footwear (TCLF) sectors came together to call for support via a dedicated strategy.  The Strategy aims to help guide the TCLF industries through the current green and digital transition, while facing tough global competition, stressing the need to safeguard the industries and protect jobs in Europe.

On 25 May, employers’ and workers’ representatives for the European TCLF sectors met with the European Commission to discuss the current challenges facing the TCLF industries and potential EU action to help support the sectors and their workers.  Following discussions on the terrible impact of COVID-19 on the sectors and the need for a strong EU action, the Joint Statement: ‘’The future industrial strategy of the EU Textiles Ecosystem (TCLF sectors)’’ was adopted.

The Joint Statement highlights the need for a dedicated strategy with support at national and EU level to help the TCLF sectors survive following the COVID-19 pandemic, while they continue to face tough, and, sometimes unfair, global competition. The Social Partners of the TCLF industries fully support the EU’s ambitions for a green and digital transition of the sectors, but insist on concrete European measures to help the industries transform while the continues to suffer from an unlevel global playing field.

Specific joint demands include: full engagement with Social Partners in both the recovery and the transition of the industries, support for the EU Pact for Skills for the relevant ecosystem, a revision of the GSP which doesn’t negatively impact the sectors and its workers, support to decarbonise the sectors, careful consideration of the Due Diligence Legislation and quality dialogue with Social Partners ahead of the EU Sustainable Products Initiative and the Consumer Agenda to ensure that all policy gaps are addressed. Special attention must also be given to the forthcoming EU Textiles Strategy which should fully represent the needs of the EU’s entire textiles ecosystem.
