Carbios at two-year anniversary of France 2030

Carbios was one of eight beneficiaries selected to present the progress of its industrial project in the presence of the President of the French Republic on the occasion of the two-
year anniversary of the launch of the France 2030 investment plan. Carbios is receiving €42.5 million in public funding (€30 million from the State as part of France 2030 and €12.5 million from the Grand-Est Region) for the construction of the plant for the enzymatic depolymerization of PET. Carbios is an emblematic example of the France 2030 initiative to support innovative projects that contribute to reindustrialization through innovation in strategic sectors, such as recycling. This plant, located in Longlaville in the Grand-Est Region, will be Carbios' first industrial site. Construction has just begun.

Carbios' technology enables PET circularity and provides an alternative raw material to virgin fossil-based monomers, allowing PET producers, waste management companies, public entities, and brands to have an efficient solution to meet regulatory requirements and fulfill their own sustainability commitments. The plant will have a processing capacity of 50,000 tons of post-consumer PET waste per year (equivalent to 2 billion colored PET bottles, 2.5 billion PET trays, or 300 million T-shirts) and will address waste with little or no value such as colored PET bottles, food trays, and textiles. The plant will create 150 direct and indirect jobs in the region. In October 2023, Carbios obtained the building permit in 10 months (the average duration in France is 17 months) and the site operating permit, allowing construction to begin. The plant is currently under construction in Longlaville in the Grand-Est Region.

Renewcell: Peter Schulz joins as interim CFO

Peter Schulz will join Renewcell in the role of interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 1 January 2024.

He comes from a role as CFO at Pacific Basin Shipping (publ.) in Hong Kong, a position he has held for the past six years. Peter Schulz has extensive experience as CFO from both listed and private companies for the last 10 years. Prior to that Peter Schulz spent more than 15 years, and held senior positions, in investment banking in Stockholm, London and Hong Kong, among others with Royal Bank of Canada and ABN Amro.

Peter Schulz will join Renewcell in the role of interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 1 January 2024.

Jennifer Maag will be proposed for election to the Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting on April 17, 2024. Ms. Maag, native-born in the USA, has Swiss and German citizenship and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley (USA). Ms. Maag is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Kardex Holding AG, Zurich, Weidmann Holding AG, Rapperswil, VT5 Acquisition Company AG, Pfäffikon (SZ) and Nova Property Fund Management AG, Pfäffikon (SZ). In 1999, Jennifer Maag founded Capital Concepts International AG, Zurich (Switzerland), a mergers and acquisitions consulting firm, where she remains as managing partner. From 1996 to 1999, she was a senior manager in the corporate finance department of KPMG AG in Zurich. GOTS Pilot Project for Small Operators to attain Certification

In an initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility to certification for small operator groups within the organic textile value chain, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is pleased to introduce its ongoing Controlled Supply Chain Scheme Pilot Project. The project, launched in 2022, was strategically developed to overcome the obstacles that often deter small-scale operators from pursuing GOTS certification.

Recognising that administrative complexities and financial burdens can impede these operators, the controlled supply chain scheme (CSCS) system was developed to mitigate these challenges. The supply chain requires an internal control and audit system, and small-scale operations benefit from a streamlined ‘group’ certification process, which reduces costs and eases administrative barriers.

In an initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility to certification for small operator groups within the organic textile value chain, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is pleased to introduce its ongoing Controlled Supply Chain Scheme Pilot Project. Under the CSCS framework, a supply chain comprised of a minimum of eight and a maximum of thirty small-scale facilities, each with twenty or fewer workers, could be considered a single Certified Entity after a comprehensive risk assessment by their Certification Body (CB). SANKEI MERIYASU, a Japanese textile manufacturer, recently received GOTS certification through this project. SANKEI MERIYASU's success showcases the tangible impact of the CSCS system in empowering small-scale operators.

With the pilot due to be reviewed and evaluated next year, GOTS Managing Director Rahul Bhajekar is optimistic about the future of CSCS systems within GOTS. "The controlled supply chain scheme has the potential for substantial impact, empowering small operators in the organic textile supply chain and revolutionising GOTS certification. Our pilot project is proving that the scheme works as intended, overcoming barriers and expanding opportunities. We look forward to refining and validating the CSCS requirements, in hopes of implementing it fully for all markets in the future.”

Recently, OETI awarded the OEKO-TEX® STeP certification to two companies in the sector of personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear: Ötscher - Berufskleidung Götzl GmbH, Austrian producer and wholesaler and longstanding PPE and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 customer, and ALSICO MOROCCO (Cindico), a Moroccan PPE and work wear producer and part of the global Alsico Group, which has already introduced the certification for production facilities in Belgium and Laos.

OEKO-TEX® STeP stands for Sustainable Textile and Leather Production and is a certification system for production facilities in the textile and leather industry. The STeP system analyses critical areas of businesses using six modules: Chemical Management, Environmental Performance, Environmental Management, Social Responsibility, Quality Management, and Health protection and Safety at work.

For ALSICO MOROCCO (Cindico), OEKO-TEX® STeP offers the benefit of "a unified certification system and standardised audits to monitor social and ecological responsibility processes at global production locations," says Managing Director Mary Meylaers.

Complete ANDRITZ textile recycling line for Italian recycling specialist

ANDRITZ recently started up a new textile recycling line at Sfilacciatura Negro’s plant in Biella, Italy. Designed for processing post-consumer textile waste with automatic removal of hard parts, the tearing line supports the company’s expansion into new recycling segments.

In view of the growing demand for sustainable fibers in the re-spinning and nonwoven industries, Sfilacciatura Negro Biella decided to expand its recycling capabilities. The company has extensive experience in recycling industrial textile waste and already operates two tearing lines. Based on its long-term collaboration with ANDRITZ, it is now stepping into the recycling of post-consumer clothing waste.

The new generation recycling line ANDRITZ supplied to Sfilacciatura Negro is the result of ten years of close cooperation, trials in its technical center, and visits to customer lines in Spain and Portugal. ANDRITZ has tailored a complete line from feeding of sorted waste bales to baling of the recycled fibers. It is designed for highly efficient, energy-saving operation and features automated separation of hard points while maintaining a good material yield. An automated filtration unit is provided for airflow and dust management. Only one operator is needed to manage the entire line up to the recycled fiber baler. The baler can produce film-wrapped and tied bales with a weight of up to 350 kg.

In 2003, she joined the Renault Group's Human Resources Department, taking on various responsibilities, including Recruitment for France, managing the establishment of Head Office and Social Relations for France. In September 2017, she joined Michelin as Director of Social Relations, France. Her previous experience at Renault was crucial in strengthening social dialogue within Michelin by combining responsibility, agility, and social cohesion, capitalizing on her legal skills and in-depth understanding of industrial and human issues.

Aufgrund der Stabilität des entstandenen Vliesstoffes kann zudem auf Kunststoffträger, die oftmals für die Stabilisierung zum Einsatz kommen, verzichtet werden. Im Jahr 2022 gelang es, rund 40 Millionen Tuchmasken aus 50 Tonnen holzbasierten VEOCELTM Fasern herzustellen. Die 25 Tonnen an damit eingespartem PET und PP sind ein großer Schritt in Richtung Müllvermeidung“, sagt Kerstin Knorr, Leitung Marketing bei Norafin.

Rieter has opened its first Repair Services station in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on December 1, 2023. It will enable both faster repair turnaround and minimum production downtime.

The station’s capabilities cover both mechanical and electronic repairs for all types of Rieter machines, including spinning and winding. In addition, the repair station has a warehouse where critical parts, such as control units, sensors and drives are stocked to ensure quick turnaround times for repairs. The new service station will operate in collaboration with Textile Service Solutions.

Rieter’s global Repair Services network comprises 25 repair stations in 19 countries. Each repair station is fully equipped with the testing and calibration equipment required to provide the highest quality repairs. Certified Rieter repair services engineers perform both on-site and in-workshop repairs, using original Rieter repair components and spare parts. Das auf Menswear spezialisierte Label Eduard Dressler eröffnete Mitte November seine neugestaltete Shop-in-Shop-Fläche im Berliner Kult-Kaufhaus KaDeWe. Die Marke ist seit 2014 im KaDeWe vertreten und zeigt auf der neuen Fläche die komplette Produktrange, wie auch neue Features.

Edles Holz, mattes Messing und eine Farbgestaltung in gedeckten und warmen Naturtönen bestimmen nach umfangreichem Umbau die neue Ladenfläche von EDUARD DRESSLER an angestammter Stelle im ersten Stock des Berliner Kaufhauses KaDeWe.

Das neue Shop-in-Shop-Konzept wurde von dem, im Retail versierten Stuttgarter Architektenbüro Blocher + Blocher entwickelt und bereits in anderen Filialen der KaDeWe-Group umgesetzt. So zum Beispiel im Oberpollinger in München, wo die neugestaltete Fläche von der Kundschaft äußerst gut angenommen wird. Epson: 100 Prozent Strom aus erneuerbaren Energien in Europa

Epson hat sein Ziel, ausschließlich Strom aus zu 100 Prozent erneuerbaren Quellen zu nutzen, europaweit erreicht.1 Weltweit soll diese Vorgabe bis Ende 2023 erfüllt werden. Der aktuelle Nachhaltigkeitsbericht zeigt die Fortschritte des Unternehmens auf seinem Weg, bis 2050 CO2-negativ zu werden und auf nicht-erneuerbare Bodenschätze zu verzichten.

Der Bericht geht speziell auf folgende Bereiche ein: Dekarbonisierung, technologische Innovationen, die die Branchengrenzen erweitern, soziale Verantwortung und Unternehmensführung. Punkte in dem Nachhaltigkeitsbericht sind unter anderem:

  • Dekarbonisierung an unseren Standorten: Der deutsche Hauptsitz ist in ein neues Gebäude in Düsseldorf umgezogen. Dort verbraucht das Unternehmen im Vergleich zum vorherigen Standort pro Quadratmeter rund 75 Prozent weniger Strom.
  • Diversität, Gleichbehandlung und Inklusion: Epson setzt sein Engagement für Diversität, Gleichstellung und Inklusion fort (DE&I, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) fort und etabliert eine Strategie für die Entwicklung von DE&I-Ziele, Kennzahlen und Governance.

First automated textile waste sorting and recycling line in France

Partnership between Nouvelles Fibres Textiles, Pellenc ST and ANDRITZ promotes circular economy for textiles.

France’s first industrial plant for automated sorting and recycling of textile waste was officially inaugurated at Nouvelles Fibres Textiles, Amplepuis, on November 30, 2023. The plant is the result of an ambitious partnership between textile recycling company Nouvelles Fibres Textiles, waste sorting specialist Pellenc ST and international technology group ANDRITZ, a specialist in textile recycling machinery and processes.

Capable of automatically sorting garments by composition and color, the new line meets the needs of both post-consumer and post-industrial waste markets. The line also removes hard parts such as buttons and zippers to prepare the material for further processing in an ANDRITZ tearing machine.

The automated textile sorting line at Nouvelles Fibres Textiles is dedicated to industrial-scale production, customer trials and projects, and the R&D activities of the partners. It will process textile waste to produce recycled fibers for the spinning, nonwovens, and composites industries.

Lectra insources cutting equipment production in China

Lectra will now directly manage the production of its cutting equipment manufactured in China, primarily dedicated to its Asian customers. The Suzhou site, located to the west of Shanghai, will thus benefit from the standards of operational excellence already implemented by Lectra at its two other plants in Bordeaux-Cestas, France, and Tolland, USA.

Lectra's teams have over 35 years’ experience in the Asia-Pacific region, which in 2022 generated 25% of the Group's revenues.

Since the acquisition of its competitor, Gerber Technology, in 2021, Lectra had been relying on a plant belonging to Dutch group VDL Groep (VDL), to manufacture Gerber-brand multi-ply cutters and spreaders.

For its industrial activities, Lectra aimed to adopt the same standards of operational excellence in China as those currently in effect at its Bordeaux-Cestas and Tolland sites. The Group therefore created a new subsidiary, Suzhou Lectra Equipment Manufacturing Co. Ltd., to take over from subcontractor VDL as of December 1, 2023.

Rückstandsfreie PFAS-Dekontamination mit Umwelthaftung

Die Belastung der Umwelt mit Schadstoffen ist ein großes Problem, die sich in Luft, Böden oder Gewässern anreichern und nur mühsam zu beseitigen sind. Dazu gehören PFAS (Perfluoralkylchemikalien), schwer abbaubare Chemikalien, die in sehr unterschiedlichen Produkten vorkommen. So werden damit beispielsweise Textilien beschichtet, die für Outdoor-Kleidung Verwendung finden, um sie vor Feuchtigkeit zu imprägnieren. PFAS sind aber auch in Backpapier, Skiwachs sowie Kosmetika wie Wimperntusche, Make-up und Lippenstiften vorhanden.

Auch in Feuerlöschern kamen PFAS bis vor Kurzem zum Einsatz. Mittlerweile sind sie EU-weit verboten, sodass die vorher damit ausgerüsteten Anlagen rückstandsfrei gereinigt werden müssen. Betriebe, die Schaummittel-Löschanlagen haben, müssen für den Brandfall gerüstet sein, andererseits besteht aber die Pflicht, Geräte und Anlagen rückstandslos von PFAS zu befreien.

Die NT Service GmbH mit Sitz in Steinhöfel bietet die Dekontamination von Schaummittel-Löschanlagen, insbesondere hinsichtlich PFC/PFAS-Rückständen und übernimmt für Kunden die Umwelthaftung.
