BTMA: VeriVide’s new UltraView booth

At ITMA 2023 in Milan from June 8-14, BTMA member VeriVide will introduce UltraView – its first all-LED light booth for achieving a new level of consistent and standardised colour assessment.

The company’s light booths and lighting cabinets are specified by major global retailers around the world, who rely on them for establishing and maintaining visual quality standards across their supply chains.

This is no easy feat, given the textile industry’s complex structure and the many process stages each individual garment undertakes from the designer’s desk to the finished garment on the retail shelf – often criss-crossing several continents during the journey.

UltraView brings a range of sustainable new benefits to designers, mills and brands, and combined with VeriVide’s successful DigiEye system for non-contact colour measurement and digital imaging, can have a positive impact on a company’s bottom line, bringing savings in time, money and CO2 emissions.

The new all-LED light booth meets all relevant international lighting and colour assessment standards. The UltraView incorporates the company’s A rated CIE D65 and CIE D50 artificial daylight light sources and includes multiple pre-set point of sale light sources while being fully tuneable for recalibration to the individual requirements of each customer. In the past, individual light booths have had to be dedicated to the stipulated settings of each specific customer’s switch sets. The rapid flexibility of UltraView, however, makes the need for multiple light booths a thing of the past.

It also eliminates the need for the regular bulb changes that were necessary with fluorescents, to provide significant energy savings.

As supply chains continue to move towards digitisation away from time-consuming and expensive physical sampling, a version of the UltraView, VisionView, is available with an internal monitor to enable physical samples to be compared with their digital versions, if required.

DigiEye
For non-contact colour measurement and digital imaging, VeriVide’s DigiEye collects and processes data that can be communicated and shared instantly, enabling manufacturers, producers and processors to speed up quality control, sustain product integrity and reduce waste.

DigiEye also overcomes the limitations of spectrophotometers, which are limited to products with a solid colour appearance and can only measure ‘average’ colour, assessing the limited area of the product exposed in the instrument’s aperture.

These limitations are further compounded if the product has any form of multi-coloured characteristics or appearance, an uneven or inconsistent surface, a colour area too small to be captured by the instrument or any sort of surface effect, such as carpet pile and the sheen of satin and silk.

Ranga Yogeshwar presents third Top 100 award to Mayer & Cie.

Albstadt-based Mayer & Cie. has been named a Top 100 award-winner for the third time as one of Germany’s most innovative small and mid-range businesses. The jury made special mention of the circular knitting and braiding machine manufacturer’s innovative processes. At the centre of the family firm’s further digital development is on the aim to boost its customers’ productivity. Last Friday, 25 June, members of the Mayer & Cie. management received the award from the science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar at the SMB summit in Frankfurt am Main.

For some time now, the focus of development work at Mayer & Cie. has been on lean management in assembly processes, on optimisation of aftersales service, including setting up an online shop for spare parts, and on product lifecycle management, or PLM, which stands for a concept of seamless integration of all the information that arises during a product’s lifecycle. A clean data structure is the basis for these measures, it’s called the “digital backbone”. It means that all product data is processed in the same database and all information is available only once and can be downloaded immediately.

In all, 436 companies, including about ten per cent from machinery and plant engineering, competed for the Top 100 seal of innovation this year. Nearly 300 were successful and were congratulated in person by Ranga Yogeshwar at the SMB summit. He noted that the award winners set a role model example. “Innovators are thought leaders; they are always pioneers too,” said Yogeshwar, who mentors the competition. “They put their products to the test and ask themselves what an ecological society and a climate-oriented world will require of them. And they check the opportunities and challenges that increasing digitisation will bring for forms of cooperation, social relationships and, with them, for employee retention.”

Mayer & Cie.: Successful 2021 - Digitisation, Sustainability and Modernisation topics for 2022

Looking back, 2021 was a positive year for the Albstadt-based circular knitting machine and braiding machine manufacturer Mayer & Cie. After two tough years, sales exceeded Euro 100 million again last year, and the outlook for this year is promising, with production working at long-term full capacity in the circular knitting machine sector.

Looking back, 2021 was a positive year for the Albstadt-based circular knitting machine and braiding machine manufacturer Mayer & Cie. After two tough years, sales exceeded Euro 100 million again last year, and the outlook for this year is promising, with production working at long-term full capacity in the circular knitting machine sector.

In order to maintain its market edge Mayer & Cie. continues to rely on digitisation of both its processes and its products. Substantial investment at its headquarters location, especially in machinery, is on the Mayer & Cie. agenda for 2022. In the years ahead a range of production machinery – lathes, gear cutting and grinding machines – is to be replaced at a scheduled cost running into low double-digit millions. Last year saw an investment in a robot-controlled laser hardening system for heat-treating machine components. The company passes an energy upgrade milestone these days with launching its new CHP cogeneration units.  
 
“Compared with 2020, our Group sales were up by about 40 per cent in 2021,” said Mayer & Cie. Managing Director Benjamin Mayer. After two difficult years in 2019 and 2020 the circular knitting machine manufacturer was able last year to restore sales to a stable level of about 103 million Euro. And it could have achieved an even better result. “Supply chain problems hampered production perceptibly,” the company’s managing director said. “In view of the order situation up to five per cent more might have been possible.” The Albstadt textile machinery manufacturer’s order position has stayed at a sound, high level since the fourth quarter of 2020, and orders in hand will already keep the circular knitting machine division busy until the end of the year, with orders coming in from all over the world, but especially, and with no change, from the company’s core markets Turkey, China and India.

The Management views with concern, however, the conflict in the Ukraine, which at first glance may not affect the sales market directly but might lead to general purchasing restraint in the capital goods sector that like the trade war between the United States and China, which began in 2018, would also affect Mayer & Cie. In addition, effects of the conflict such as high energy prices and interruptions in material supplies and logistics pose a genuine challenge in the further course of the year.

In the braiding machine division, the order position recovered in 2021. Sales of new machines and, especially, spare parts exceeded the 2020 figures significantly. Mayer & Cie. has once more won an award for its in-house and external digitisation measures as one of the most innovative German SMEs. The textile machinery manufacturer won a 2022 Top 100 award for its innovative processes in particular.

Elke Katz joins the board of the Beitlich Family Foundation

The Beitlich Family Foundation, owner of the CHT Group, has appointed Elke Katz as an additional member of the Foundation's Board of Directors, which includes the function of Supervisory Board, on 1 September 2021. Elke Katz is currently CEO of ratioform Verpackungen GmbH, a company of the Haniel Group, based in Munich.

She has extensive, cross-industry experience in strategic and operational corporate management at companies such as BMW and Telefonica. She holds a degree in business engineering and has extensive know-how in customer experience management, digital business and business development.

Johan de Ruiter, Chairman of the Board of the Beitlich Family Foundation: "We aligned ourselves with the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals several years ago and defined sustainability, digitalisation and diversity as important strategic components for the CHT Group. Under the motto "BACK TO THE FUTURE", BLUEZONE offered a way back to the tactile experience of textiles and the reunion of the denim community. In addition to international denim weavers and manufacturers, visitors to the Zenith Hall also saw a qualitative selection of KEYHOUSE exhibitors who presented their futuristic innovations for the fashion industry.

Positive visitor & exhibitor echo despite Covid-19 measures

In keeping with the season's title "RISE", the visitors were greeted by inspiring, colourful trend forums with unique highlights for Autumn.Winter 22/23 collection development. In the halls, the industry was able to discover a trade show with the well-known and proven pre-pandemic quality with manufacturers and suppliers presenting in all 8 areas. Non-European suppliers were represented by agencies and offered well-attended show in show concepts.

The newly formed ReSOURCE x SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS Area also drew in the crowds. In a modern atmosphere, information was shared on sourcing sustainable textiles and additionals as well as innovative concepts. Another highlight was the launch of FABRIC.iD, the innovative process for the complete digitisation of fabrics to greater serve the industry's digital future.

Ausschließlich digital – die andauernd volatile Covid-19 Situation in Deutschland und die bundesweite Beschlusslage seitens der Bundesregierung gebieten den Initiierenden der Frankfurt Fashion Week, sich für die erste Frankfurt Fashion Week vom 5. bis 9. Juli 2021 auf größtenteils digitale Formate zu konzentrieren. Als zentraler, digitaler Raum dafür wird das FFW STUDIO lanciert. Neben den pandemischen Rahmenbedingungen ist vor allem die partnerschaftliche Verantwortung gegenüber allen Stakeholder*innen ausschlaggebender Punkt für diese Entscheidung – schließlich würde ein unverändertes Festhalten an den bisherigen Planungen das finanzielle Risiko für eine physische Durchführung der Frankfurt Fashion Week auf die Schultern der Austeller*innen, Besucher*innen und Partner*innen verlagern. Die Prognosen hinsichtlich des Impffortschritts stimmen aktuell grundsätzlich positiv. Dennoch müssen Tradeshows und Präsentationen, die auf der physischen Präsenz eines internationalen Besucher*innen- und Aussteller*innenportfolios aufbauen, den zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt maßgeblichen Entscheidungsfaktoren Rechnung tragen. Zu diesen zählen insbesondere sowohl externe Kriterien, wie andauernde Einschränkungen im Reiseverkehr sowie umfangreiche Quarantänebestimmungen als auch unternehmensinterne Aspekte wie Reiserestriktionen oder auch Kurzarbeitsregelungen, die Stakeholder*innen eine Zusage der physischen Teilnahme an der Frankfurt Fashion Week Anfang Juli 2021 momentan unmöglich machen.

Digital Impulse für die Transformation der Fashionbranche setzen
„Jetzt heißt es, nach vorne blicken. Wir sind angetreten, um die Frankfurt Fashion Week mit ihrem Ecosystem zum Taktgeber der Mode- und Textilbranche zu machen und relevante Zukunftsthemen auf der Agenda der Industrie zu setzen. An diesem Anspruch halten wir fest. Beispielsweise der neue Frankfurt Fashion SDG Summit presented by der Conscious Fashion Campaign in Zusammenarbeit mit dem United Nations Office for Partnerships und die durch die "New European Bauhaus"-Initiative der Europäischen Union inspirierte Konferenz „The New European Bauhaus – Werkstatt der Zukunft“, organisiert vom Fashion Council Germany in Kooperation mit der Frankfurt Fashion Week, versprechen einen hochkarätigen digitalen Aufschlag. Das FFW STUDIO entsteht auf der Website www.frankfurt.fashion und wird der zentrale Anlaufpunkt für alle Textil- und Modeprofis, Fashion People und Interessierte. In einem professionell kuratierten Live-Stream wird während der Frankfurt Fashion Week eine ganzheitliche User Experience entstehen, die mit den vier Kanälen Trade Show, Conference, Experience sowie Arts & Entertainment die vier Säulen des Frankfurt Fashion Week Ökosystems abbildet und dabei stets die Leitmotive Sustainability und Digitisation in Szene setzt. Die Inhalte werden im Anschluss an die Liveübertragung in Form einer Video-on-Demand-Serie allen Stakeholdern für die Interimssaison zur Verfügung stehen. So entsteht eine konzentrierte und hochqualitative Essenz der zukunftsorientierten Themenfelder der Frankfurt Fashion Week.

Starting with fibre science, through yarn and surface production to finishing and textile testing methods, all essential topics are cov-ered.
Both training courses are therefore suitable for interested employees and trainees from all areas of the company along the textile chain who wish to acquire or refresh specialist knowledge. This also gives lateral entrants and specialists with training from outside the indus-try the opportunity to enter the world of textiles more easily.
