Esprit Announces Annual Results for FY2021

ESPRIT HOLDINGS LIMITED has announced its audited financial annual results for the year ended 31 December 2021, highlighted by a significant increase in both revenue and profit attributable to shareholders of the Company to HK$8,316 million and HK$381 million respectively, in which the profit attributable to shareholders of the Company also recorded a turnaround versus the loss attributable to shareholders of the Company of HK$414 million for the six months ended 31 December 2020. Gross profit margin was 48.6%, 7.0% higher than the Corresponding Period. Please refer to the Company’s results announcement for the Current Year for further details.

ESPRIT HOLDINGS LIMITED has announced its audited financial annual results for the year ended 31 December 2021, highlighted by a significant increase in both revenue and profit attributable to shareholders of the Company to HK$8,316 million and HK$381 million respectively, in which the profit attributable to shareholders of the Company also recorded a turnaround versus the loss attributable to shareholders of the Company of HK$414 million for the six months ended 31 December 2020. Gross profit margin was 48.6%, 7.0% higher than the Corresponding Period. Please refer to the Company’s results announcement for the Current Year for further details.

Such financial improvement was attributable to various reasons, including (i) the new infrastructure and strategies instituted by the current management team; (ii) improvement in sales with higher gross profit margin; (iii) positive results of efficient cost control measures; (iv) improved inventory management; and (v) growth in E-commerce.

Although revenue in the Current Year was affected by lockdowns in the Company’s major European markets during the first quarter of 2021, and due to increased restrictions on entry requirements into stores during the fourth quarter of 2021, the Group generated revenue via three main channels: E-commerce, wholesale, and owned retail stores. As the ESPRIT brand website and third-party E-commerce partners continued to trade during lockdown, a large portion of the Group’s sales were generated online. This business model allowed it to mitigate some of the negative impacts of the Pandemic in the retail segment. Another driver of growth came from selling fewer discounted products from the Company’s retail business compared to 2020.

The Group has not forgotten the ESPRIT mission and long-standing commitment to sustainability. The Company has continued to work tirelessly towards developing cutting-edge materials that set new standards in terms of environmental sustainability. The Company has formulated and further advanced its ESG strategies to establish ESPRIT as an industry pioneer. Such strategies involve the greater use of sustainable fibers, developing new and innovative product options that support a circular economy, and ensuring environmental awareness is a key message that underpins all of the Group’s projects. To achieve these objectives, the Management has identified four key pillars of growth (Sourcing and Procurement; Marketing and Product; IT, Internet, and E-commerce; and The ESPRIT Brand Story) that are paramount in maintaining the loyalty of existing ESPRIT patrons and attracting new customers.

Looking ahead, the global economy is anticipated to be negatively affected by the lingering effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine. The already unstable logistics industry and disrupted supply chain will likely be further impacted, which in turn will result in higher logistic service costs. Despite the unfavorable global economic outlook, the Group believes that under the leadership of its current management and with the support of dedicated staff members, the Company is on track to ongoing profit growth.

The creators of PREMIUM, SEEK, FASHIONTECH and THE GROUND are redesigning the sustainability of future-proof fashion fairs with the commitment of the Berlin government, and launching a completely new event concept in which the B2B and D2C sectors merge. In the new Premium Group cosmos, brands can present themselves emotionally and interactively to retailers and consumers. All realities are represented: the new kids in the industry, such as D2C brands, e-com and influencers, are given their place in the Premium Group cosmos in the form of the new fashion festival THE GROUND. But also long-standing partners of established brands and representatives from traditional stationary retail will profit from further developed B2B spaces.

Taking into account the different needs of all visitors, the events will take place from Thursday to Saturday for the first time: from 7 to 9 July 2022.

'Classic trade fair formats are no longer up to date', sums up Anita Tillmann, Managing Partner of the Premium Group. Move to Frankfurt am Main fell victim to the coronavirus
The planned kick-off of the Premium Group Events in Frankfurt am Main could not take place because of the coronavirus, and the plan to establish the events at the new location has fallen victim to the pandemic.
 
'It's a shame that the move to Frankfurt didn't work out', says Jörg Arntz, Managing Director of the Premium Group. 'We all tried very hard and did our best. As an entrepreneur, you always have to remain capable of acting and questioning decisions that have been made. In order to do justice to our customers and the market environment, we have decided – after intensive discussions with the city of Berlin – to hold our events in our home city again. We are Berliners at heart and are confident that the new government will anchor Berlin as Europe's creative metropolis in a sustainable and economic way.'

New government brings Premium Group power back to Berlin

INNATEX 49 postponed for a month due to coronavirus situation

  • International trade fair for Green Fashion to take place in February

The Winter edition of INNATEX will not take place as planned in January, but is being postponed by one month. In changing their plans, the organisers MUVEO GmbH have reacted rapidly to the latest forecasts from the virus experts and to the changing situation regarding the spread of the Omicron variant in January, which remains unpredictable. They intend to offer a new date in mid- or late February; they are currently consulting the exhibitors and expect to reach a conclusion in the next few days.

“We are in regular discussions with our exhibitors and partners, and we know that the Green Fashion community needs a platform for winter ordering,” said Alexander Hitzel, INNATEX Project Manager. “In view of the fact that other live events have been cancelled this season, we see it as our duty more than ever to facilitate a gathering where products can be presented, orders can be taken and people can network – even if conditions are more difficult again.”

It had not yet been decided, he said, what adjustments the organisers would ultimately be making to the original concept with its various programme elements, to ensure compliance with the guidelines in force during the event. “We are in constant contact with the authorities but we will have to await developments before we can move on to the configuration of the event,” Hitzel continued.

MUVEO GmbH is one of a very small number of fair organisers that has managed to put on a safe six-monthly ordering platform throughout the entire pandemic, with a comprehensive hygiene policy and practice. Hitzel stresses that the same will be achievable this time.

Besides the lack of a regulatory basis, the effects of the ongoing pandemic and the spread of the coronavirus, as well as the worrying developments regarding the new virus variant, Omicron, have further overruled the safe implementation of the events in January. Lockdowns in neighbouring European countries, some of which have already come into force, in addition to travel restrictions, quarantine regulations and the volatile situation as a whole make it impossible to hold the trade fairs and peripheral events in a safe environment.

International filtration and separation professionals can feel even more confident making plans to exhibit at FiltXPO™ 2022 this upcoming March.

On November 8, 2021, the US lifted the 18-month ban on visitors from the European Union, China, Iran, Brazil and India, as long as they can show proof of vaccination and a negative coronavirus test. No quarantine will be required, regardless of how visitors enter.

Freudenberg: Construction of the competence center for apparel interlinings started

Freudenberg Performance Materials Apparel Europe started construction work on its competence center for finishing and coating base material for the apparel industry at its site in Sant´Omero (Italy) as scheduled in December. Further processing of base material is to begin in Italy in early 2023. The Weinheim site will then become the competence center for interlining base material.

In January 2021, Freudenberg Performance Materials Apparel Europe (Freudenberg) announced plans to set up two competence centers. In future, the company will concentrate on manufacturing base material for interlinings at the Weinheim location. Base material finishing and coating is to be bundled at Sant´Omero. For this purpose, production plant will be relocated from Weinheim to Sant´Omero and recommissioned in a newly-built production hall.

The traditional groundbreaking ceremony with senior representatives from local authorities and Freudenberg management was cancelled due to the high number of coronavirus cases in the area.

Right up until today, the event organizers of PERFORMANCE DAYS were in the final stages of preparations for the fair. The goal of being able to realize a fully booked fair with a portfolio like in pre-pandemic times seemed to be within reach. The political regulations agreed in Bavaria from November 19, 2021 and the heavily restricted constraints associated with an incidence of 1000 have far-reaching consequences for PERFORMANCE DAYS. As a result of the current sharp rise in the number of infections in Munich, the planned winter edition must now be cancelled as a precaution. The focus now is now completely on the digital fair on December 1 and 2, 2021.

The new measures are scheduled to come into effect in Munich from the middle of this week, which would lead to very short-term changes. The organizers of PERFORMANCE DAYS therefore see themselves in the responsibility to enable a minimum of planning security as well as a responsible handling of the given situation with this decision.

“Exceptional situations require exceptional decisions – making these all the more difficult. After experiencing a very successful and surprisingly well-attended fair with the Functional Fabric Fair by PERFORMANCE DAYS in Portland, Oregon last week, we have tried everything possible up to the last moment and firmly believed that we would finally set a further positive milestone with the physical edition of PERFORMANCE DAYS in Munich. We fulfilled all the requirements, updated our hygiene concept several times to comply with the dynamically changing measures and took all the necessary precautions for a safe event. Unfortunately, current developments do not allow us to host the trade fair event next week, since the undisputed top priority is the protection and health of our visitors. Now our focus turns to the full implementation of the Digital Fair on December 1 and 2, 2021”, explains Marco Weichert, CEO of PERFORMANCE DAYS

The PERFORMANCE DAYS team is now investing all its efforts into implementing the Digital Fair on December 1 and 2, 2021. As part of THE LOOP, those interested have the opportunity as of now to view online the fabric innovations and news for the Winter Season 2023/24, this year’s Focus Topic “Sustainable Nylon” and the latest color trends. In the Marketplace, visitors will be able to view the numerous exhibitor products, including the PERFORMANCE FORUM’s curated sustainable fabric highlights. In order to present the fabrics to visitors as realistically as possible in terms of feel, design and structure in digital form, the PERFORMANCE FORUM has been equipped with new 3D-technology, including innovative tools such as 3D images, video animations and downloadable U3M files. Throughout the Digital Fair, exhibitors and fair visitors can look forward to extensive networking opportunities. For example, as part of the extensive digital supporting program on December 1, with various expert talks, discussion rounds and speakers via livestream, moderated by Charles Ross live from the studio. On December 2, the “sustain & innovate” conference on this year’s Focus Topic “The Sustainable Future of Nylon” will kick off with discussions and panels, moderated by Astrid Schlüchter, Editor-in-Chief of SAZsport and SPORTSFASHION by saz.

Vom 11. bis 14. Januar 2022 öffnet die Heimtextil unter 2G-Vorgaben ihre Tore und steht ganz im Zeichen des Re-Starts für sichere persönliche Begegnungen beim Onsite-Messebesuch. Ein  umfangreiches Sicherheits- und Hygienekonzept berücksichtigt die aktuellen Verordnungen der Landes- und Bundesregierung.
 
Hohe internationale Beteiligung dank hoher Impfquoten
Die seit dem 22. November 2021 gültigen Verordnungen der hessischen Landesregierung bestätigen die Durchführung der Heimtextil unter 2G-Vorgaben.
 

Vom 11. bis 14. Januar 2022 öffnet die Heimtextil unter 2G-Vorgaben ihre Tore und steht ganz im Zeichen des Re-Starts für sichere persönliche Begegnungen beim Onsite-Messebesuch. "DOMOTEX is particularly affected by the impact of the Corona pandemic, as the vast majority of DOMOTEX exhibitors and attendees come from abroad. However, given the current pandemic situation, international business travel is not expected to recover in the short term," adds Wedell-Castellano.

Da die Livinguard Technologie auf einem mechanischen Wirkprinzip basiert, ist die Bildung von Resistenzen äußerst unwahrscheinlich.
Die Wirksamkeit der zugrundeliegenden biozidfreien Technologie wurde von Dr. Torsten Koburger-Janssen (Hygiene Nord, Deutschland) begutachtet. In seiner Untersuchung konnte er nachweisen, dass die Gesamtkeimzahl auf mit Livinguard Technologie behandelten Textilien nach 48 Stunden signifikant niedriger lag als bei unbehandelten Stoffen. Auch wenn das Keimwachstum nicht völlig unterbunden wurde, so lag auch dieser Faktor deutlich niedriger als in der unbehandelten Vergleichsgruppe. Daneben wurde auch die versprochene Geruchsreduktion auf Textilien von Probanden bestätigt, ohne dass dies eine explizite Fragestellung dieser Gesamtkeimzahl-Untersuchung gewesen wäre.

Die Livinguard Technologie findet in den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen Anwendung, darunter im medizinischen Sektor sowie in diversen Industrien. Derzeit setzt Livinguard seine Technologie mit der biozid und der biozidfreien Formulierungsplattform bei Gesichtsmasken, Kleidung für den privaten Gebrauch und den Beruf, Hygieneprodukten, Computer-Tastaturen sowie bei Luft- und Wasserfiltern ein.

In the contract sector, notably in the hotel industry, the trends towards sustainability and quality are likely to continue to grow. Moreover, there is an increase in awareness as far as hygiene requirements are concerned. Textiles that are easy to clean without losing their appearance or their functionality can excel here. Accordingly, products ordinarily used in the healthcare sector might start to be of interest to the hotel and catering industry, public spaces, the transport industry, and to offices. This will apply in particular to areas where there is a regular flow of visitors and where people come into direct contact with fabrics. Antimicrobial textiles provide additional protection in these situations. Besides their flame retardancy, many new Trevira CS products integrate additional functions such as noise or sun protection.

Trevira has launched the Trevira CS eco brand for flame retardant textiles that consist of recycled Trevira products.
The new Trevira CS eco brand unites sustainability and flame retardancy. Trevira offers products for this which have been manufactured through different recycling processes. The flame retardant filament yarns are based on the use of recycled PET bottles (post-consumer recycling). Textiles bearing the Trevira CS eco trademark consist of at least 50% recycled materials.

Trevira uses an agglomeration facility to recycle reusable waste materials from production to manufacture recycled fibres that, after further processing, retain the same quality and performance characteristics as the original products (pre-consumer recycling).

Biden Administration Awards $6.5M Contract to US Cotton LLC

  • Ramping Up Production of American-Made Polyester Tipped Swabs

The Biden Administration has awarded a contract for $6.5 million to U.S. Cotton LLC, the largest manufacturer of cotton swabs in the United States, to increase domestic production capability for polyester tipped swabs for home testing kits and mass testing applications to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.  Since the beginning of the pandemic, U.S. Cotton has retooled operations to produce over 400 million COVID testing kit swabs.

The Department of Defense (DOD), in coordination with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced the award today as part of the administration’s broader effort to increase domestic production capability for essential medical supplies.

U.S. Cotton, based in Cleveland, Ohio, said the company will increase its production capacity from 92 million polyester swab tips per month to approximately 371 million polyester swab tips per month by May 2022 to support domestic COVID-19 testing. The DOD contract award was funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to support the domestic industry base expansion for critical medical resources.

“Recognizing the challenge, we set out to explore how used facemasks could potentially be returned into the value chain of new facemask production”, says Dr. Peter Dziezok, Director R&D Open Innovation at P&G. “But creating a true circular solution from both a sustainable and an economically feasible perspective takes partners. Therefore, we teamed up with Fraunhofer CCPE and Fraunhofer UMSICHT’s expert scientists and SABIC’s Technology & Innovation specialists to investigate potential solutions.”

As part of the pilot, P&G collected used facemasks worn by employees or given to visitors at its manufacturing and research sites in Germany. Although those masks are always disposed of responsibly, there was no ideal route in place to recycle them efficiently. To help demonstrate a potential step change in this scenario, special collection bins were set up, and the collected used masks were sent to Fraunhofer for further processing in a dedicated research pyrolysis plant.

“A single-use medical product such as a face mask has high hygiene requirements, both in terms of disposal and production. Mechanical recycling, would have not done the job”, explains Dr. Alexander Hofmann, Head of Department Recycling Management at Fraunhofer UMSICHT. “In our solution, therefore, the masks were first automatically shredded and then thermochemically converted to pyrolysis oil. Pyrolysis breaks the plastic down into molecular fragments under pressure and heat, which will also destroy any residual pollutants or pathogens, such as the Coronavirus. In this way it is possible to produce feedstock for new plastics in virgin quality that can also meet the requirements for medical products”, adds Hofmann, who is also Head of Research Department “Advanced Recycling” at Fraunhofer CCPE.

The pyrolysis oil was then sent to SABIC to be used as feedstock for the production of new PP resin. The resins were produced using the widely recognized principle of mass balance to combine the alternative feedstock with fossil-based feedstock in the production process. Mass balance is considered a crucial bridge between today’s large scale linear economy and the more sustainable circular economy of the future, which today is operated on a smaller scale but is expected to grow quickly.

“The high-quality circular PP polymer obtained in this pilot clearly demonstrates that closed-loop recycling is achievable through active collaboration of players from across the value chain”, emphasizes Mark Vester, Global Circular Economy Leader at SABIC. “The circular material is part of our TRUCIRCLE™ portfolio, aimed at preventing valuable used plastic from becoming waste and at mitigating the depletion of fossil resources.”

Finally, to close the loop, the PP polymer was supplied to P&G, where it was processed into non-woven fibers material. “This pilot project has helped us to assess if the close loop approach could work for hygienic and medical grade plastics”, says Hansjörg Reick, P&G Senior Director Open Innovation. “Of course, further work is needed but the results so far have been very encouraging.”

The entire closed loop pilot project from facemask collection to production was developed and implemented within seven months. The transferability of advanced recycling to other feedstocks and chemical products is being further researched at Fraunhofer CCPE.

Schließlich kann einerseits der Einkaufspreis zu 100 Prozent bei den Fixkosten der Überbrückungshilfe III angesetzt werden und andererseits fällt zumindest bis 31. Dezember 2021 darauf keine Umsatzsteuer an.
 
Voraussetzung für beide Tatbestände ist, dass die Warenspende an einen gemeinnützigen und steuerbegünstigten Empfänger geht. Dies ist jedoch nach Recherchen von BTE und HDE wohl nicht bei allen bekannten Hilfsorganisationen der Fall. Zum Teil ist zwar die Dach-Organisation gemeinnützig, der konkrete Empfänger der Warenspende ist aber ein steuerpflichtiger Wirtschaftsbetrieb.

Wichtig ist, auf eine Empfangsbestätigung zu bestehen, aus der ersichtlich ist, dass der unmittelbare Empfänger eine steuerbegünstigte Organisation ist. Denn sonst verschenkt der Spender unnötig Geld bzw. muss mit Kosten rechnen. Schließlich könnten in einem solchen Fall bei der Überbrückungshilfe nur 90 Prozent des Einkaufspreises angesetzt werden und bei der Umsatzsteuer müsste der „fiktive Einkaufspreis im Zeitpunkt der Spende“ versteuert werden.

July will see the start of Frankfurt Fashion Week (FFW) digital. Frankfurt Fashion Week Studio is the core element of the FFW opening season and encompasses the whole FFW ecosystem – with its key themes of Fashion Business, sustainability and digitisation – in the form of a digital portal.

Autoneum Holding AG Annual General Meeting

The shareholders of Autoneum Holding Ltd approved all proposals of the Board of Directors at today’s Annual General Meeting and agreed to forgo dividend payments. Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli were newly elected to the Board of Directors. Based on Art. 27 of the Covid-19 Ordinance 3, the Board of Directors of Autoneum Holding Ltd decided to hold the 2021 Annual General Meeting without physical attendance by the shareholders. For this reason, the Company had asked them in advance to exercise their rights exclusively via the Independent Proxy. He represented 63.5% of a total of 4 672 363 shares.

The shareholders of Autoneum Holding Ltd approved all proposals of the Board of Directors at today’s Annual General Meeting and agreed to forgo dividend payments. The shareholders approved the Annual Report, the Annual Financial Statements and the Consolidated Financial Statements 2020. In view of the net loss in the 2020 financial year, the Board of Directors proposed forgoing dividend payments, which was approved by a large majority of the shareholders. Hans-Peter Schwald, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said: “2020 was extremely challenging for the entire automobile industry and also for Autoneum. The pandemic-related drop in revenue has impacted profitability. Despite the net loss, Autoneum reached important financial improvements in 2020. We expect to return to profitability in 2021 and our aim to distribute at least 30% of the net profit attributable to Autoneum shareholders as dividends remains unchanged. The Board of Directors, the Group Executive Board and the Company as a whole are committed fully to ensuring that Autoneum continues to make significant operational and financial improvements.”

Chairman Hans-Peter Schwald and the other members of the Board of Directors, Rainer Schmückle, Norbert Indlekofer, Michael Pieper, This E. Schneider and Ferdinand Stutz were confirmed in office. Newly elected to the Board of Directors were Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli.

With Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli and the resignation of Peter Spuhler, who did not stand for reelection in order to be able to focus on managing Stadler Rail, the Board of Directors of Autoneum Holding Ltd has expanded from seven to eight members. Hans-Peter Schwald explained: “The expertise of Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli in the areas of finance and corporate management is of great value to Autoneum. As the Board of Directors, we look forward to this enhancement to the Board and to working with both of them.”

Peter Spuhler has been an important driving force since the Company became independent, he played a major role in shaping Autoneum thanks to his entrepreneurial expertise and showed great commitment to the Company. The Board of Directors thanks him sincerely and wishes him continued success.

This E. Schneider, Hans-Peter Schwald and Ferdinand Stutz were re-elected to the Compensation Committee. Oliver Streuli was elected as a new member of this committee. In addition, the shareholders of Autoneum Holding Ltd granted discharge to all members of the Board of Directors and the Group Executive Board with a large majority.

The consultative vote on the 2020 remuneration report was approved by 83.4%. Due to the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the Group’s business development, the members of the Board of Directors renounced half of their compensation for the 2020 financial year and, in order to  align their remuneration with shareholder interests, decided to receive it entirely in Autoneum shares. In addition, a waiver of salary amounting to 10% of the basic salary for a period of three months was agreed upon with the senior management as part of a reduction of personnel costs.

The proposals for the remuneration of the Board of Directors and the Group Executive Board for the 2022 financial year as well as the other proposals were also approved by a large majority.

„Zum Sterben zu viel, zum Überleben zu wenig“

Die seit dem 8. März erlaubten Möglichkeiten zum Öffnen der Geschäfte beseitigen die Sorgen und Nöte des stationären Textil-, Schuh- und Lederwarenhandels nicht. In den allermeisten Geschäften reichen die Verkaufserlöse nach Erkenntnissen von BTE, BDSE und BLE nicht einmal aus, um die anfallenden Kosten für Personal, Miete und Strom zu decken. „Die aktuellen Umsätze sind für Modehäuser, Schuhläden und Lederwarengeschäfte zum Sterben zu viel, aber zum Überleben zu wenig!“, berichtet BTE-Hauptgeschäftsführer Rolf Pangels.
 
Vor diesem Hintergrund lösen Forderungen aus der Politik, die ohnehin begrenzten Öffnungsmöglichkeiten wieder zurückzunehmen, große Ängste und Befürchtungen im Modehandel aus. Schließlich ist der Start in die Frühjahrssaison für die drei Branchen enorm wichtig. Pangels: „März und April sind als Start in die Saison für die Fashionbranche ganz wichtige Umsatzphasen und die verlorenen Umsätze lassen sich in der saisonal orientierten Modebranche kaum noch aufholen.“

Bereits jetzt nimmt der Warendruck in der gesamten Modebranche merklich zu. „Wir haben neben großen Mengen unverkaufter Winterware jetzt die Läden voll mit neuer Frühjahrsmode, die aufgrund der aktuellen Beschränkungen nicht oder nur sehr schwer an den Mann oder die Frau gebracht werden kann“, klagt Pangels. „Gleichzeitig verliert die modische Ware mit jeder Woche an Begehrlichkeit und Wert!“
 
Das Weiterbestehen der Verkaufsbeschränkungen hat für die gesamte Fashionbranche dramatische Folgen. Sie wird tausende Existenzen und damit zehntausende Arbeitsplätze zerstören – nicht nur im Handel, sondern auch bei den Lieferanten. Denn der Handel braucht die Umsätze nicht nur für die eigenen Löhne und Mieten, sondern auch zum Bezahlen seiner Vorstufen. „Jede Woche Lockdown kostet den stationären Textil-, Schuh- und Lederwarenhandel rund eine Milliarde Euro Umsatz“, rechnet Pangels. „Dieser enorme Fehlbetrag reißt auch unsere Lieferanten mit in den Abgrund und am Ende wohl ebenfalls hunderttausende Näherinnen in den Produktionsländern!“
 
Angesichts dieser - auch globalen - Auswirkungen fordern BTE, BDSE und BLE die politischen Entscheidungsträger auf, ihre restriktive Verbots-Politik endlich grundlegend zu überdenken. Pangels: „Der überängstliche und ausschließliche Blick auf Inzidenzwerte darf nicht zu einer gesellschaftlichen Schockstarre führen. Viele Wissenschaftlicher und selbst das RKI empfehlen mittlerweile die Berücksichtigung weiterer Parameter. Zudem ist mehrfach belegt, dass das Ansteckungsrisiko im Handel gering ist. Einschränkungen für den stationären Handel sind untaugliche Instrumente in der Pandemie-Bekämpfung und führen vor allem zu gewaltigen volkswirtschaftlichen Schäden, die letztendlich jeder Bundesbürger mitfinanzieren muss!“ Pangels weiter: „Es ist illusorisch zu glauben, ein ständig mutierendes Virus mit Geschäftsschließungen ausrotten zu können. Wir fordern von den Entscheidungsträgern, endlich eine flächendeckende Öffnung des Einzelhandels bei Einhaltung strikter Hygiene- und Abstandskonzepte anzugehen, wie sie die Händlerinitiative „Das Leben gehört ins Zentrum“ bereits vorgeschlagen hat!“

Warenspenden jetzt ohne Umsatzsteuer

Seit Jahren fordern die Handelsverbände Textil (BTE) und Schuhe (BDSE) von der Politik, dass auf Warenspenden keine Umsatzsteuer erhoben werden sollte. Vor allem durch die großen Mengen unverkaufter Winterware als Folge des Lockdowns ist diese Problematik noch einmal massiv verschärft worden. BTE und BDSE haben in den letzten Wochen daher in zahlreichen Interviews auf diesen Missstand hingewiesen und immer wieder eine zeitnahe Befreiung von Warenspenden von der Umsatzsteuer angemahnt.
 
Am 18. März hat das Bundesfinanzministerium eine befristete Billigkeitsregelung für Sachspenden veröffentlicht. Danach wird bei Waren, die von Einzelhändlern, die durch die Corona-Krise unmittelbar und nicht unerheblich negativ wirtschaftlich betroffen sind, an steuerbegünstigte Organisationen gespendet werden bzw. gespendet worden sind, auf die Besteuerung einer „unentgeltlichen Wertabgabe“ verzichtet. Diese Regelung gilt nur für Spenden, die zwischen dem 1. März 2020 und dem 31. Dezember 2021 erfolgt sind.
