Rieter updates Outlook for First Half Year 2021

In the month of April 2021, Rieter received orders of around CHF 300 million. The order intake in April was broadly based internationally with the main focus on Turkey, Uzbekistan and India.

In addition to the regional development of the market, Rieter also attributes the business performance to a catch-up effect due to the low propensity to invest in 2019/2020.

As a result, Rieter expects an order intake of around CHF 800 million in the first half of 2021.

As already announced, Rieter anticipates that sales in the first half of 2021 will be below the break-even point. Rieter expects an operating profit for the full year 2021. On July 15, 2021 Rieter will give an updated outlook for 2021 in connection with the semi-annual results, taking into consideration the ongoing challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dafür haben die initiierenden, die Messe Frankfurt und die Premium Group, das FFW STUDIO entwickelt. Die Tradeshows Premium, Seek, Neonyt und The Ground sowie die Runwaypräsentationen werden aufgrund der andauernden pandemischen Situation auf 19. bis 21. Januar 2022 verschoben.

Ausschließlich digital – die andauernd volatile Covid-19 Situation in Deutschland und die bundesweite Beschlusslage seitens der Bundesregierung gebieten den Initiierenden der Frankfurt Fashion Week, sich für die erste Frankfurt Fashion Week vom 5. bis 9. Juli 2021 auf größtenteils digitale Formate zu konzentrieren. Als zentraler, digitaler Raum dafür wird das FFW STUDIO lanciert. Neben den pandemischen Rahmenbedingungen ist vor allem die partnerschaftliche Verantwortung gegenüber allen Stakeholder*innen ausschlaggebender Punkt für diese Entscheidung – schließlich würde ein unverändertes Festhalten an den bisherigen Planungen das finanzielle Risiko für eine physische Durchführung der Frankfurt Fashion Week auf die Schultern der Austeller*innen, Besucher*innen und Partner*innen verlagern. Die Prognosen hinsichtlich des Impffortschritts stimmen aktuell grundsätzlich positiv. Dennoch müssen Tradeshows und Präsentationen, die auf der physischen Präsenz eines internationalen Besucher*innen- und Aussteller*innenportfolios aufbauen, den zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt maßgeblichen Entscheidungsfaktoren Rechnung tragen. Zu diesen zählen insbesondere sowohl externe Kriterien, wie andauernde Einschränkungen im Reiseverkehr sowie umfangreiche Quarantänebestimmungen als auch unternehmensinterne Aspekte wie Reiserestriktionen oder auch Kurzarbeitsregelungen, die Stakeholder*innen eine Zusage der physischen Teilnahme an der Frankfurt Fashion Week Anfang Juli 2021 momentan unmöglich machen.

Digital Impulse für die Transformation der Fashionbranche setzen
„Jetzt heißt es, nach vorne blicken. Wir sind angetreten, um die Frankfurt Fashion Week mit ihrem Ecosystem zum Taktgeber der Mode- und Textilbranche zu machen und relevante Zukunftsthemen auf der Agenda der Industrie zu setzen. Der führende Anbieter von Textil- und Materialinnovationen HeiQ bringt HeiQ MetalliQ auf den Markt, eine futuristisch anmutende High-tech-OP-Maske, die alle getesteten Viren und Bakterien mit einer Wirksamkeit von bis zu 100 % zerstört.

Die Maske mit patentiertem Design enthält eine ultradünne reine Kupferbeschichtung, die über ein High-tech-Dampfabscheidungsverfahren namens HeiQ MetalliX aufgebracht wird. Dabei wird eine winzige Menge Kupfer in Dampf umgewandelt, sodass es gleichmäßig abgegeben werden kann und jede Faser einschließt. HeiQ MetalliX ist eine zum Patent angemeldete Technologie, die von HeiQs Innovationspartner, dem australischen Technologieunternehmen Xefco, entwickelt wurde. Studien des Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Melbourne, Australien (Doherty Institute) haben ergeben, dass mit der HeiQ MetalliX-Technologie behandelte Gewebe das ansteckende SARS-CoV-2-Virus (das Virus, das COVID-19 verursacht) in weniger als 5 Minuten in deutlichem Umfang inaktivieren konnten.

Das Testprotokoll simulierte die reale Wechselwirkung von Aerosoltröpfchen, die Textilprodukte wie Gesichtsmasken kontaminieren. Jede Probe wurde einer hohen Belastung an SARS-CoV-2 ausgesetzt, gefolgt von 5, 15 und 30 Minuten Inkubation bei Raumtemperatur. Dann wurde die Menge der verbleibenden ansteckenden SARS-CoV-2-Viren gemessen. Die mit HeiQ MetalliX behandelten Gewebeproben zeigten eine Reduktion des Virus von über 97,79 % nach fünf Minuten, 99,95 % nach 15 Minuten und über 99,99 % nach 30 Minuten, bezogen auf die Inokulum-Kontrolle.

Kupfer ist ein natürlich vorkommendes Element, das in der Erdkruste, im Boden,  Ozeanen, Seen und Flüssen zu finden ist. Es ist auch ein Spurenelement, das natürlich in allen Menschen, Pflanzen und Tieren vorkommt. Die antiviralen, antibakteriellen und antimykotischen Eigenschaften von Kupfer sind seit Jahrhunderten bekannt und in vielen Laborstudien nachgewiesen worden. Mit HeiQ MetalliX behandelte Materialien setzen Kupferionen frei, die Viren und Bakterien inaktivieren. Die so behandelten Materialien konnten in Tests zudem 100 % von Staphylococcus aureus und Klebsiella pneumoniae abtöten und 99,95 % des H1N1-Virus und 99,9 % des humanen Coronavirus 229E inaktivieren.

HeiQ MetalliQ wird in der EU bei HeiQ Medica (Spanien) hergestellt, wo HeiQ auch Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeit für Medizinprodukte betreibt. Für die Entwicklung der HeiQ MetalliX-Technologie hat Xefco als Mitglied des erstklassigen ARC Research Hub for Future Fibres eng mit dem langjährigen Forschungspartner Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) an der Deakin University zusammengearbeitet.

NCTO: Kim Glas testifies on Supply Chain Resiliency

National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) President and CEO Kim Glas is testifying on “Supply Chain Resiliency and the Role of Small Manufacturers” before the Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access.
 
In written testimony submitted to the committee, Glas provides an overview of the incredible resiliency of the U.S. textile industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of the ensuing economic crisis, existing options available to small manufacturers to access capital, and policy recommendations to strengthen the entire industry domestic supply chain.

In written testimony submitted to the committee, Glas provides an overview of the incredible resiliency of the U.S. textile industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of the ensuing economic crisis, existing options available to small manufacturers to access capital, and policy recommendations to strengthen the entire industry domestic supply chain.

“One silver lining associated with the immense challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis is that it afforded the domestic textile industry an opportunity to demonstrate its enormous resiliency, flexibility, and overall value to the U.S. economy,” Glas says in the testimony. “Despite the fact that there was virtually no [full] U.S. production of textile-based PPE prior to the pandemic, the heroic actions of domestic textile manufacturers resulted in the ability to supply homegrown PPE at the height of the greatest healthcare emergency our country has faced in the past 100 years.”

“As we exit the current crisis, rational federal policies are once again needed to ensure a stable overall environment where small businesses can compete and thrive, and targeted initiatives are required to ensure that domestic supply chains for critical materials, such as PPE, exist in the United States,” Glas notes.

Glas details five key policy recommendations supported by 20 trade associations and labor groups, representing the entire domestic supply chain aimed at strengthening the integrated U.S. textile sector:

  • Strengthen Buy American procurement rules
  • Provide funding assistance for companies to reconstitute domestic supply chains important to U.S. national and healthcare security
  • Key contracting reforms
  • Streamline the SBA loan application process
  • Provide additional funding for workforce training

The Lenzing Group presented its Sustainability Report 2020 on April 22, 2021, World Earth Day. Featuring the title “Stand up for future generations”, Lenzing once again emphasized its commitment to taking responsibility beyond the products it makes. The non-financial report, prepared in accordance with the reporting standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Austrian Sustainability and Diversity Improvement Act (NaDiVeG) and reviewed by KPMG Austria GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungs- und Steuerberatungsgesellschaft, illustrates how the company is responding to the global challenges of our time.

The 2020 financial year of the Lenzing Group was largely dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Lenzing took short-term measures to safeguard its business operations and mitigate the effects of fiber prices and fiber demand which came under increasing pressure. The priority was to protect employees and strengthen long-term partnerships with suppliers and customers. Following the current fight against the coronavirus and its consequences, the company continues to move ahead determinedly to achieve its sustainability targets, also against the backdrop of such a difficult market environment.

With the implementation of its science-based targets, the Lenzing Group actively contributes to mastering the problems caused by climate change. In 2019, Lenzing made a strategic commitment to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent per ton of product by 2030. The overriding target is to be climate-neutral by 2050.*

Lenzing: Outlook for current financial year raised

The Lenzing Group got off to a better-than-expected start to the financial year 2021, with preliminary EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) rising by 36.8 percent year-on-year to EUR 94.5 mn in the first quarter of 2021.

Despite the continuing high degree of volatility in the textile sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Managing Board of the Lenzing Group raises its guidance for the 2021 financial year: The Lenzing Group expects the operating result to be at least at the level of the pre-crisis year 2019.

The results of the Lenzing Group for the 1st quarter of the current financial year will be published on Wednesday, May 05, 2021.

The Lenzing Group got off to a better-than-expected start to the financial year 2021, with preliminary EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) rising by 36.8 percent year-on-year to EUR 94.5 mn in the first quarter of 2021.

Despite the continuing high degree of volatility in the textile sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Managing Board of the Lenzing Group raises its guidance for the 2021 financial year: The Lenzing Group expects the operating result to be at least at the level of the pre-crisis year 2019.

The results of the Lenzing Group for the 1st quarter of the current financial year will be published on Wednesday, May 05, 2021.

Recent testing on Acteev fabric completed at the University of Cambridge has demonstrated that Acteev technology deactivates the virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, with greater than 99.9% efficacy. Ascend has submitted several masks designs to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to obtain the appropriate regulatory clearances to make specific claims regarding the technology’s antiviral properties in the United States.

Shareholders therefore could not attend the Annual General Meeting in person. The AGM was held on the premises of Rieter Holding Ltd. at the company’s headquarters in Winterthur.

At the Annual General Meeting of Rieter Holding Ltd. on April 15, 2021, the independent proxy represented a total of 2 084 shareholders who hold 63.6% of the share capital.

The shareholders approved the proposal of the Board of Directors not to distribute a dividend in view of the negative business result. Shareholders also adopted all other motions proposed by the Board of Directors, namely the approval of the annual report, the financial statements and the consolidated financial statements for 2020, and formal approval of the actions of the members of the Board of Directors and those of the Group Executive Committee in the year under review.

Outlook Updated
As already communicated at the Results Press Conference on March 9, 2021, Rieter expects the market recovery to continue in 2021. The company expects an order intake exceeding CHF 500 million in the first half of 2021. For the first half of 2021, Rieter still anticipates that sales will be below break-even point. For the full year 2021, Rieter expects an operating profit.

At the 77th Annual General Meeting of Lenzing AG, which was once again held virtually on April 14, 2021 via livestream due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the members of the Managing Board and Supervisory Board were formally discharged from liability for the business year 2020. KPMG Austria GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungs- u. Steuerberatungsgesellschaft was appointed to serve as the auditor of the annual financial statements and consolidated annual financial statements for the business year 2021.

Furthermore, the Annual General Meeting adopted the resolution on the compensation to be paid to Supervisory Board members as well as the principles underlying the remuneration of the members of the Managing Board. In addition to financial performance criteria, the remuneration policy of Lenzing AG regulating the multi-year, performance-oriented remuneration paid to the Managing Board members will also be linked in the future to non-financial sustainability criteria (ESG) designed to further promote the sustainable business strategy of Lenzing AG.

Fully on track strategically
The Managing Board of Lenzing AG presented the business development of the year 2020, a strategic outlook and sustainability strategy including the relevant roadmap to achieve climate targets to the participating shareholders. In 2019, Lenzing made a strategic commitment to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions per ton of product by 50 percent by the year 2030. The goal is to operate in a climate-neutral manner by 2050.

The substantial investments made in Thailand and Brazil not only support Lenzing in its transformation to a supplier of environmentally compatible specialty fibers but also comprise an important milestone on this journey which sustainably increases the company’s enterprise value.

The implementation of these two key projects is proceeding ahead as planned in spite of the direct impacts of the coronavirus crisis. The pulp plant in Brazil is scheduled to be put into operation in the first half of 2022 and will significantly increase Lenzing’s own in-house supply of dissolving pulp. Production in Thailand is expected to commence towards the end of 2021, further raising the share of eco-friendly specialty fibers in the Lenzing product portfolio.

New appointments to the Supervisory Board
Dr. Veit Sorger retired from the Supervisory Board of Lenzing AG on his request effective at the end of the Annual General Meeting. Veit Sorger had been a Member of the Supervisory Board since 2004 (also serving as Deputy Chairman since 2011) and served on various Supervisory Board committees.

The Annual General Meeting elected Dr. Markus Fürst, Managing Director of B&C Industrieholding GmbH, and Thomas Cord Prinzhorn, MBA, CEO of Prinzhorn Holding GmbH, to serve on the Supervisory Board until the end of the Annual General Meeting resolving upon the discharge of the Supervisory Board members for the business year 2024.

Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC) has announced its industry-leading wet wipes folding machines the Rx200 and Mako Clipper are now available with high-content alcohol, measuring as much as 70 percent.

Previously, PCMC wet wipes machines operated with less than 20 percent alcohol, producing disinfectant wipes for personal, home, industrial and automotive use. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a spike in demand for sanitizing wipes that contain at least 70 percent alcohol, the key component in killing or deactivating viruses.

To help manufacturers meet the increased demand, PCMC redesigned its Rx200 and Mako Clipper to safely operate with high-content alcohol. The new designs feature increased air exchange for better ventilation and additional sensors to eliminate the risk of flash points and fires. The machines also include IDS 150/300 integrated dual stackers and a redesigned Mako saw to meet more stringent regulations and higher machine performance expectations.

Sensorische Sohlen in den Schuhen analysieren den Gang und helfen damit Ärzten und Physiotherapeuten, die optimale Therapie auszuwählen - zum Beispiel gegen Rückenschmerzen. Taschentücher, Stofftaschen oder Handschuhe aus speziellen Silbertextilien töten Viren und Bakterien. Eine Innovation, die in der Corona-Pandemie besonders gefragt ist.

Neue Textilelektroden überleben inzwischen sogar viele
Waschgänge und machen smarte Textilien alltagstauglich. Das ist besonders wichtig bei Sportbekleidung, mit der auch Hobbysportler gerne ihr Training tracken, auswerten und optimieren. Neu entwickelte Stoffe haften großflächig am Körper und stellen auf diese Weise sicher, dass Vitalparameter zuverlässig erfasst werden.

Waschbar und leitfähig sind auch Druckknöpfe, die im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes Kontaktierung per Knopfdruck herstellen. In den robusten Knöpfen steckt Elektronik wie Sensoren, Aktoren, LEDs und Schalter.

Das Anwenderforum zeigte auch in diesem Jahr, dass viele Visionen inzwischen realisierbar und marktfähig sind. Herausforderungen sind in Zukunft, nachhaltige Materialien und Prozesse einzusetzen sowie die E-Textiles zu recyceln. Darüber hinaus stellt die Datenflut, die durch die smarten Textilien erzeugt werden kann, hohe Ansprüche an die Sicherheit und die Verarbeitung der Daten.

Das Anwenderforum SMART TEXTILES wird jährlich von den Deutschen Instituten für Textil- und Faserforschung Denkendorf (DITF), dem Forschungskuratorium Textil e. V. in Berlin und dem Textilforschungsinstitut Thüringen Vogtland e. V. (TITV) in Greiz veranstaltet, um den Austausch von Industrie und Wissenschaft in der in der D-A-CH-Region zu fördern.

Das 10. Anwenderforum SMART TEXTILES findet vom 2.-3. März 2022 statt und ist wieder als Präsenzveranstaltung kombiniert mit einer Firmenbesichtigung geplant. Der Veranstaltungsort wird rechtzeitig bekanntgegeben.

Autoneum Holding AG Annual General Meeting

The shareholders of Autoneum Holding Ltd approved all proposals of the Board of Directors at today’s Annual General Meeting and agreed to forgo dividend payments. Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli were newly elected to the Board of Directors. Based on Art. 27 of the Covid-19 Ordinance 3, the Board of Directors of Autoneum Holding Ltd decided to hold the 2021 Annual General Meeting without physical attendance by the shareholders. For this reason, the Company had asked them in advance to exercise their rights exclusively via the Independent Proxy. He represented 63.5% of a total of 4 672 363 shares.

The shareholders approved the Annual Report, the Annual Financial Statements and the Consolidated Financial Statements 2020. In view of the net loss in the 2020 financial year, the Board of Directors proposed forgoing dividend payments, which was approved by a large majority of the shareholders. Hans-Peter Schwald, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said: “2020 was extremely challenging for the entire automobile industry and also for Autoneum. The pandemic-related drop in revenue has impacted profitability. Despite the net loss, Autoneum reached important financial improvements in 2020. We expect to return to profitability in 2021 and our aim to distribute at least 30% of the net profit attributable to Autoneum shareholders as dividends remains unchanged. The Board of Directors, the Group Executive Board and the Company as a whole are committed fully to ensuring that Autoneum continues to make significant operational and financial improvements.”

Chairman Hans-Peter Schwald and the other members of the Board of Directors, Rainer Schmückle, Norbert Indlekofer, Michael Pieper, This E. Schneider and Ferdinand Stutz were confirmed in office. Newly elected to the Board of Directors were Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli.

With Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli and the resignation of Peter Spuhler, who did not stand for reelection in order to be able to focus on managing Stadler Rail, the Board of Directors of Autoneum Holding Ltd has expanded from seven to eight members. Hans-Peter Schwald explained: “The expertise of Liane Hirner and Oliver Streuli in the areas of finance and corporate management is of great value to Autoneum. As the Board of Directors, we look forward to this enhancement to the Board and to working with both of them.”

Peter Spuhler has been an important driving force since the Company became independent, he played a major role in shaping Autoneum thanks to his entrepreneurial expertise and showed great commitment to the Company. The Board of Directors thanks him sincerely and wishes him continued success.

This E. Schneider, Hans-Peter Schwald and Ferdinand Stutz were re-elected to the Compensation Committee. Oliver Streuli was elected as a new member of this committee. In addition, the shareholders of Autoneum Holding Ltd granted discharge to all members of the Board of Directors and the Group Executive Board with a large majority.

The consultative vote on the 2020 remuneration report was approved by 83.4%. Due to the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the Group’s business development, the members of the Board of Directors renounced half of their compensation for the 2020 financial year and, in order to  align their remuneration with shareholder interests, decided to receive it entirely in Autoneum shares. In addition, a waiver of salary amounting to 10% of the basic salary for a period of three months was agreed upon with the senior management as part of a reduction of personnel costs.

The proposals for the remuneration of the Board of Directors and the Group Executive Board for the 2022 financial year as well as the other proposals were also approved by a large majority.

The dates are set: IFFT/Interior Lifestyle Living is welcoming exhibitor registration for its 2021 edition, to be held from 18 – 20 October 2021 in the South Halls of Tokyo Big Sight. The dedicated fair for interior design is once again set to attract not only retail buyers but also visitors from design and architecture offices, commercial facilities, and other contract businesses. The 2019 edition welcomed 352 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions as well as 16,016 visitors from 34 countries and regions, receiving much positive feedback for its increased focus on contract business.

New ETHICAL zone added to satisfy consumer demand
A newly introduced ETHICAL zone will help industry players explore the themes of sustainability and ecology, which are continuing to gain traction in the interior design market. The zone focuses on environmental protection, up-cycling, fair trade, products that support people with disabilities, organic products, local production for local consumption, and more. Furniture production from recycled forest materials will also be a focus of the zone, which will be promoted in the run up to the fair through sector-specific media channels. This will include dedicated promotional activities targeting ethically driven retailers and restaurants.
 
A variety of booth sizes to accommodate exhibitors’ needs
In response to requests from exhibitors who showcase smaller items, a new booth size has been added for 2021. Measuring 6.3 sqm (width 3m x depth 2.1m), the new booth option is one size smaller than the existing 9 sqm booth, adding more choice for exhibitors
 
Dedicated lifestyle themed zones
Proving popular amongst trade buyers during previous editions, ‘CREATIVE RESOURCE’ is a zone devoted to innovative interior materials, as well as parts and services for interior design and home remodelling. Products featured at the zone include wallpaper, floor coverings, paints and related materials. First introduced in 2012, the zone has grown in stature as the destination for the likes of manufacturers, architects, designers and developers to find inspiration.
 
The fair’s zoning encompasses a variety of different product categories and themes. This not only simplifies the sourcing process for trade buyers, but it also maximises business exposure for exhibitors. Day-to-day lifestyle products – both stylish and functional – will be displayed in the ‘HOME’, ‘ACCENT’ and ‘EVERYDAY’ zones with a focus on living spaces, accessories and household items respectively.
 
Moreover, catering to the world of convenience and home cuisine, an array of pragmatically-designed packaged food will be presented at 'FOODIST', while innovative dining items will be gathered at the ‘KITCHEN LIFE’ zone.
 
Highlighting high quality local craftsmanship, designs from Japanese artisanal artists with a modern touch will be located in the ‘JAPAN STYLE’ zone. The latest designs from highly acclaimed international brands will be displayed too, in the ‘MOVEMENT’ area, while work from up-and-coming young designers will appear at the ‘TALENTS’ and ‘NEXT’ zones.

NCTO elects Chairman, Council Chairs and Board Members

The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), representing the full spectrum of U.S. textiles from fiber through finished sewn products, held its officer elections for fiscal year 2021 today.

NCTO has re-elected David Roberts, CEO of Cap Yarns, as Chairman and David Poston, President of Palmetto Synthetics, as Vice Chairman.

In addition to the appointment of a new chairman and vice chairman, NCTO elected chairs for each of its four councils. NCTO is comprised of four councils to ensure a broad representation of the industry supply chain. Each council has an allotted number of members who are elected to the association’s Board of Directors, in addition to the Executive Committee.*

“This is a critical juncture for our industry, which answered the call of the nation to produce lifesaving personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic,” said NCTO President and CEO Kim. “We will continue to engage with all stakeholders to press for policies that support the industry overall, help onshore PPE production and create a permanent domestic supply chain.”
