INDA’s Wes Fisher named a 2023 Top Lobbyist

INDA, The Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, announces that Director of Government Affairs Wes Fisher was named a 2023 Top Lobbyist by the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics (NILE). The list includes professionals with legislative success in 2023, have been innovative in their field, are held in high regard by their peers, give back to their community through charity or pro bono work, and adhere to the highest ethical standards.

Fisher joined INDA in 2022, he previously held senior government affairs positions at the Pet Advocacy Network and the National Automatic Merchandising Association. His work at INDA has included interfacing with lawmakers, regulators, and stakeholders at the state, local, federal, and international levels and participating in UN negotiations regarding the ongoing Global Plastics Treaty. He serves on the board of directors of the Washington Area State Relations Group (WASRG) and in 2022 was appointed by the Governor of Virginia to the Virginia Rare Disease Council.

Four Nonwoven Industry Professionals honored with INDA Lifetime Awards

NDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, announced four recipients for the Lifetime Service Award and Lifetime Technical Achievement Awards. Jan O’Regan, Seshadri Ramkumar, Jim Robinson, and Ed Thomas are being recognized for their key contributions to the growth of the nonwovens industry and INDA.

NDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, announced four recipients for the Lifetime Service Award and Lifetime Technical Achievement Awards. Jan O’Regan, Seshadri Ramkumar, Jim Robinson, and Ed Thomas are being recognized for their key contributions to the growth of the nonwovens industry and INDA.

Jan O’Regan: INDA Lifetime Service Award
Jan O’Regan was the Director, Strategic Initiatives and Nonwovens Marketing, for Cotton Incorporated and retired in 2022. In this capacity, she uncovered new opportunities for cotton to bring value into the nonwovens industry. Her work included leading efforts in strategic planning, technical and market project management, and sharing new ideas and results with the global supply chain.
O’Regan spent over four decades in the nonwovens industry in various roles, including sales, marketing, strategic planning and business management. Market responsibilities included consumer and industrial markets on regional, national, and global teams. Over the most recent years, she applied these broad experiences to new markets for cotton in nontraditional applications.
Serving and volunteering with INDA for decades, O’Regan most recently chaired the World of Wipes® committee, which she efficiently organized to produce innovative conferences for the wipes industry.  She was a frequent speaker at INDA, INSIGHT, EDANA, and other events, and for nearly two decades was a go to source of information for cotton fibers in nonwovens and hygiene. O’Regan earned a BS in Textiles and Business, summa cum laude, from Penn State University and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Seshadri Ramkumar: INDA Lifetime Technical Achievement Award
Seshadri Ramkumar has over twenty-five years of experience within the technical nonwovens space, conducting industry leading research and educating nonwovens professionals at Texas Tech University (TTU).  At TTU, he established the Nonwovens Laboratory. Many of Ramkumar’s students have gone on to become technical leaders within their organizations and the nonwovens industry.
Ramkumar has numerous patent and invention disclosures, including Fibertect® toxic chemical decontamination wipes which have been recognized by the American Chemical Society as a notable success of federally supported innovation, endorsed by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and adopted by multiple branches of the military.
In addition to many peer-reviewed publications, articles, and columns collectively over 500, including one on nanofibers that has been cited over 2,100 times, Ramkumar has contributed his expertise on the editorial boards of multiple fiber, nonwoven, and textile journals. Ramkumar has also organized conferences for nonwovens and textiles and actively promoted INDA and its technical training offerings for over 20 years.
He is a longtime member of the INDA Technical Advisory Board, been recognized by TAPPI, Society of Dyers and Colorists (UK), the Textile Institute (UK), and the Textile Association (INDIA), and received numerous awards from TTU.
Ramkumar holds a Bachelors of Technology (Textiles), Graduated with Distinction, and a Masters of Technology (Textiles), University First Rank in the Discipline, Anna University, and a Ph.D. (Textile Materials) from the University of Leeds, UK.

Jim Robinson: INDA Lifetime Technical Achievement Award
Jim Robinson has 33 years in the absorbent hygiene industry, including 28 years as a Technical Service Manager at BASF. He led technical teams that focused on the application of superabsorbent polymers (SAP) in hygiene products. Robinson has extensive knowledge of SAP applications, absorbent core formation, and hygiene article design, performance and testing. While with BASF, Robinson led efforts with multiple external companies to provide co-supplier solutions to hygiene converters.
Robinson’s extensive understanding of test methods and test method development led to his coordinating the establishment of fitness for use standards of adult incontinent products with the National Association for Continence and involvement in development and review of absorbent product test methods with INDA/EDANA. He is also an active contributor to INDA’s Technical Advisory Board and Hygienix organizing committee and was a contributing developer in establishing the INDA Absorbent Hygiene Training Course. Robinson has provided numerous presentations at INSIGHT, Hygienix, and RISE on performance and interactions of absorbent system components.
Recently, Robinson has been consulting and contributing to the success of multiple start-ups including those having been nominated for INDA product awards. Robinson has a BS in Chemistry from Hampden-Sydney College and an MS in Chemistry from Duke University.

Ed Thomas: INDA Lifetime Technical Achievement Award
Ed Thomas retired after 39 years, with 32 years in the nonwovens industry, and has remained active teaching the Intermediate Nonwovens Training Course for INDA and The Nonwovens Institute at North Carolina State University, as well as providing consulting services to the industry.
Thomas’ experience includes Process Engineering Manager and Plant Management, DuPont; Technical Director, Reemay; VP of Research and Operations, VP of Operations and Technology, and Global VP of Research and Development for Fiberweb/BBA Nonwovens; and Head of Research and Product Development, First Quality Nonwovens.
Thomas holds 10 U.S. nonwoven patents and he and his teams have been awarded more than 250 patents for numerous and diverse innovations that have played significant roles in the success of the nonwovens industry. These include applications for the global hygiene market, industrial nonwovens, and filtration media.
During his career, Thomas has presented several keynote addresses and papers to industry conferences, participated in North Carolina State University’s Nonwovens Cooperative Research Center (NCRC) prior to it becoming The Nonwovens Institute (NWI), INDA’s Technical Advisory Board, INDA’s Sustainability Committee, and was Vice Chair of NWI’s Industrial Advisory Board prior to retirement and remains an Emeritus member.
Thomas received his mechanical engineering degree from SUNY Buffalo.

INDA: Six New Members to the 2023 Board of Directors

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, welcomes six new members to its 2023 Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are responsible for contributing to INDA’s strategic focus in support of the industry. They inform INDA’s policies and programs to ensure the association meets the needs of their more than 360 corporate members.

The Board is comprised of elected Board Officers. One-third of the entire Board is elected each year for a three-year term by a majority vote of INDA’s general membership. INDA’s Executive Committee, empowered to act on behalf of the Board between meetings, consists of the Board Officers plus four appointees.

The new board members are:

Ricardo Fasolo, Managing Vice President, Fitesa Inc.
Ricardo Fasolo is Managing Vice President for Fitesa in North America. He is responsible for all operations, sales, business development and P&L activities for the region. Mr. Fasolo has been with Fitesa since 2005. During this period, he has worked in various roles from leading the supply chain management in Latin America to Sales in the USA. Prior to joining Fitesa, Mr. Fasolo worked for a Tier 1 OEM supplier responsible for producing assisted steering gear systems.

Neil Johnson, President, AstenJohnson
Neil Johnson is President of AJ Nonwovens, a division of AstenJohnson Holdings, a multinational private technical textiles company. AJ Nonwovens is a newly branded entity that includes Foss Performance Materials, Eagle Nonwovens, and a new greenfield site in Waco, Texas. As President, Mr. Johnson has responsibility for all aspects of AstenJohnson’s Nonwovens business. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Johnson regularly updates the Board of Directors on matters of strategic significance and has a proven track record of leadership and broad business experience.
Mr. Johnson has spent 33 years with AstenJohnson in a variety of roles. These include VP of business development, VPHR, and General Management. A dual US / Canadian citizen, he has lived and worked in both countries and had global leadership responsibility. Outside of work, Mr. Johnson has had experience on several boards.  He has served as treasurer of a $10 million charitable foundation, served as President of the Board for a large non-profit in Charleston, SC and served on the Board of the Charleston youth hockey league. Mr. Johnson graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada with a Bachelor of Commerce and an International MBA from the University of South Carolina.

Chris Roeder, Director – Strategy, Marketing & Innovation, Global Cellulose Fibers, International Paper
Chris Roeder joined International Paper (IP) in 1996 in Kansas City, MO, as an engineer for IP’s Consumer Packaging business. Over the next 20 years, Mr. Roeder held a variety of leadership roles with increasing responsibility in Beverage Packaging, Foodservice and Coated Paperboard, where he focused on business and product development as well as sales management. In 2016, Mr. Roeder was named Marketing Director for IP’s Containerboard business and was responsible for a number of key strategic initiatives.
In 2020, he was named Regional General Manager for IP’s North American Container business, and later that same year, he was named Director – Strategy, Marketing & Innovation for IP’s Global Cellulose Fibers business. In his current role, Mr. Roeder is responsible for collaborating across the business and enterprise to develop IP’s go-to-market strategy. He and his team work closely with the Sales team to drive successful innovations for IP’s customers.

Paul E. Rollin, Jr., Ph.D., Senior Principal – Global Hygiene, ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company
Paul Rollin earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and his Ph.D. in Polymer Science from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Rollin began his career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. developing “Flashspun” nonwoven products in the Tyvek® Business. He later transferred from Richmond, VA to Old Hickory, TN where he provided technical support to manufacturing, as well as led product development efforts for bi-component spunmelt fibers and fabrics.
For the past 11 years, Dr. Rollin has worked for ExxonMobil in Baytown, TX. During this time, his roles and responsibilities have included developing new products based on polyolefin resins, customer and application development. In 2018, he became the Global Nonwovens Team Lead at ExxonMobil. Dr. Rollin has several patents and has contributed to the nonwovens industry for more than 24 years.

Jodi Russell, Vice President R&D, Cleaning Innovation, Packaging & Sustainability, The Clorox Company
Jodi Russell has spent 25 years leading global innovation across multiple categories in the consumer-packaged goods industry. She began her career at P&G after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.S. Chemical Engineering, and has continued for 20 years at Clorox creating consumer-winning products in Cleaning, Foods, Litter, Trash, Natural Personal Care and Water Filtration. Ms. Russell is an innovation leader, with a proven track record of driving profitable growth, with current R&D responsibility for >$2B product portfolio including the company’s flagship Clorox Bleach™ and Clorox Disinfecting Wipes™ businesses. Ms. Russell excels in setting vision for R&D that leads to breakthroughs and in collaborating with industry partners to create leading edge technology for the Clorox global portfolio.

Julie Schertell, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mativ
Julie Schertell is Mativ’s President and Chief Executive Officer and serves on its Board of Directors. As the former Neenah Inc. Chief Executive Officer, she held numerous leadership positions within the company over the last 14 years, including Chief Operations Officer, Segment President of Technical Products and Fine Paper & Packaging and Vice President and General Manager of Fine Paper & Packaging.
Ms. Schertell began her career at Georgia-Pacific in 1992 as a Cost Analyst in a plant supporting Consumer Products. She served in several roles over her 16-year career there, all within the Consumer Products Division, including Vice President of Sales and Marketing Strategy, Vice President of Supply Chain, Director of Sales Operations and Director of Financial Planning & Analysis. Ms. Schertell graduated from Florida State University’s College of Business in 1991 with a BA in Accounting and received her MAcc degree from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business in 1992.

Snider brings more than 30 years of nonwovens & engineered materials expertise with a strong background in market and industry analysis at both the macroeconomic, industry and segment level.

Before starting his consulting firm sixteen years ago, he supported three divisions as Technical Marketing Manager for Nordson Corporation, and as European and Latin American Regional Manager for J&M Laboratories.

Snider’s industry knowledge, and extensive network combined with his research and analytical skills will provide decision-making data, reports, and presentation to INDA members and the industry.

Snider will expand upon INDA’s membership outreach and research initiated by MaryJo Lilly, INDA’s Market Intelligence Leader, to realize INDA’s new vision for industry intelligence. Lilly will continue to assess strategic market research initiatives and special projects.

Before starting a consulting firm two years ago, Lilly was Regional Commercial Director of North America for Tredegar Film Products and before that, spent more than a decade as Vice President of Sales at Berry Global in the Health, Hygiene, and Specialties Division growing the personal care and medical markets.

Additionally, Lilly’s leadership experience includes Global Business Director at Clopay Plastic Products and Director of Sales and Marketing for Absorbent Materials at Rayonier Performance Fibers. Lilly holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

INDA mourns loss of Industry Leader and Executive Committee Appointee Walter G. Jones

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, is mourning the loss of Walter “Walt” G. Jones, Chief Executive Officer, Precision Fabrics Group, Inc., of Greensboro, NC, who passed away Sept. 22.

He is being remembered fondly by the association for his strong contributions as a leader, mentor, and advocate for the nonwoven industry. INDA, in particular, benefited from Jones’ vast industry and business knowledge as an INDA Executive Committee Appointee for over 20 years. Jones started his career at Burlington Industries in 1977 and was named president and CEO, in 1999 of Precision Fabrics Group Inc., a spin-off of Burlington Industries. Jones was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Wharton School of Finance.

“INDA is saddened by the loss of a true industry leader who devoted his career to advancing the nonwoven & engineered material industry,” said INDA President Tony Fragnito. “Walt Jones will be missed by all of us at INDA and by the many professionals whose careers and businesses were positively impacted by his expertise. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family.”

Matt O’Sickey INDA’s New Director of Education & Technical Affairs

  • Experienced nonwovens professional with extensive hygiene, food, medical, and packaging background will strengthen INDA’s key member service areas

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, announced the appointment of Matt O’Sickey, Ph.D., as its new Director of Education & Technical Affairs. An accomplished market development, technology and product management executive, O’Sickey has more than 20 years of experience with Tredegar Film Products in the absorbent hygiene, food, and medical sectors.

Most recently, he held Director positions at RKW-North America in the areas of research and development, product design, application engineering, site operations, quality, and technology with a focus on breathable, and lamination films for controlled atmosphere packaging.

At INDA, O’Sickey will direct and expand workforce development programs for all industry members, manage the international harmonized standards activities, and play a leadership role in INDA’s product stewardship working groups and conference content development committees.

INDA promotes Tony Fragnito to President

The Board of Directors at INDA, Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, elevated Tony Fragnito from Chief Operating Officer of INDA to President of INDA effective May 31. Fragnito will assume the position currently held by Dave Rousse, who will become President Emeritus and provide support and assistance to Fragnito as needed until Rousse fully retires in January, 2023.

A certified public accountant, Fragnito brings strong financial acumen in addition to extensive information technology, human resource and program management accomplishments from organizations representing a variety of professions and industries.  

The Board of Directors at INDA, Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, elevated Tony Fragnito from Chief Operating Officer of INDA to President of INDA effective May 31. Fragnito will assume the position currently held by Dave Rousse, who will become President Emeritus and provide support and assistance to Fragnito as needed until Rousse fully retires in January, 2023.

Also, organized by INDA, FiltXPO™ featured five panels of global leaders in filtration and separation for the first-ever “Summit for Global Change,” discussing societal challenges such as indoor air quality, environmental sustainability, pandemic readiness, clean water, and filtration standards.  The event also featured a 1.5-day filter media training course, and sessions highlighting filter media market trends and filtration industry statistics.  

Exhibitors and attendees noted the welcome return to meeting face-to-face among industry senior leaders participating in the three-day event.

A highlight of IDEA® was the announcement of the IDEA® Achievement Awards by INDA, in partnership with Nonwovens Industry magazine. Moderated by Rousse and Karen McIntyre, Editor, Nonwovens Industry the awards recognize the leading introductions in equipment, raw materials, short-life, long-life and nonwovens products, and sustainability, since the previous IDEA® Exposition in 2019.

In addition, INDA presented the IDEA® 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award to Val Hollingsworth, board chair and CEO of Hollingsworth & Vose, and Nonwovens Industry presented the IDEA® Entrepreneur Achievement Award to Doug Brown, president of Biax-Fiberfilm/5K Fibres at the event.

Mr. Franklin holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Mahlo: Zwei Niederlassungsleiter feiern Jubiläum

Bei den Tochterunternehmen der deutschen Mahlo GmbH + Co. KG feiern in diesem Jahr gleich zwei Niederlassungsleiter Jubiläum. Alan Lavore von Mahlo America Inc. ist seit 25 Jahren im Dienst des Maschinenbauers. Michel Bruni, Niederlassungsleiter von Mahlo Italia, gehört bereits seit 40 Jahren zur Mahlo-Familie.

Seinen Weg bei Mahlo begann Bruni 1981 als Kundendiensttechniker in der französischen Niederlassung Mahlo Ouest. Bereits ein Jahr später wechselte er zu Mahlo Italia, wo er 1996 zum Niederlassungsleiter ernannt wurde. Diese Position hat der bis heute inne. Außerdem ist Bruni als Verkaufsleiter für die Benelux-Staaten, die Maghreb-Länder sowie Madagaskar verantwortlich. Zum Erfolgsrezept des Mahlo Italia CEOs gehört Fachwissen gepaart mit Erfahrung und Leidenschaft. Einem Unternehmen so viele Jahre treu zu bleiben, zeugt zudem von einer besonderen Beziehung. „Damals wie heute arbeite ich mit einem dynamischen und engagierten Team. Während dieser Zeit trieb er den Ausbau des Unternehmens vom Textilspezialisten zum Lieferanten für verschiedene Produktionssektoren wie Film, Papier, Beschichtung und Verarbeitung oder Vliesstoffe voran.

Das smarte System wurde anhand einer Live-Analyse der Leistungs-, Qualitäts- sowie Verfügbarkeitsparameter der Technikumsanlagen verdeutlicht. Die neuen Produktionsverfahren Hyperpunch Alpha, HyperTex und 3D-Lofter wurden videogestützt erläutert und erzielten damit eine sehr positive Resonanz bei unterschiedlichsten Herstellern, die zur Vertiefung des Themas ihr Interesse an Versuchen im DILO-Technikum bekundeten. Diese Themen und weitere Neuentwicklungen sind auch die Grundlage für weitere Gespräche.

Lenzing – Seit mittlerweile 30 Jahren engagiert sich der Verband der Chemielehrer/innen Österreichs, kurz VCÖ, immer wieder mit spannenden Projektwettbewerben über den Lehrplan hinaus. Alle zwei Jahre, in diesem Jahr nun also schon zum 16. Mal, wird ein Schwerpunktthema erarbeitet, zu dem Schüler/innen der neunten und zehnten Schulstufe besondere Versuchsreihen veranstalten, um sich einem wichtigen Thema auf experimentelle Art zu näheren.

Heuer lautete der Titel „Mit Chemie zu Kreislaufwirtschaft und Klimaschutz“. Themen also, die auch dem weltweit tätigen Faserhersteller Lenzing ein wichtiges Anliegen sind. Daher erklärte sich das Unternehmen kurzerhand bereit, den Projektwettbewerb zu unterstützen, und das gleich mehrfach. Einerseits leistete Lenzing einen Beitrag zur Aufbringung der Sponsoringsumme von insgesamt EUR 30.000, zudem initiierte das Unternehmen einen Sonderpreis zum Thema „Biologische Abbaubarkeit“. Ein Thema, das angesichts der großen Herausforderungen zur Reduktion von Plastikmüll zunehmend an Bedeutung gewinnt. Und schließlich stellte Lenzing auch noch in der Person von Michaela Kogler, Project Manager Nonwovens & Technical Products, eine ausgewiesene Expertin bereit, die bei Fragen mit Rat und Tat zur Verfügung stand.

Mit den Regenwürmern im Team

Konkret galt es, unterschiedliche Fasern, wie sie in der Produktion von Textilien und auch Vliesstoffen eingesetzt werden, in beiden Fällen unter aktiver Mitwirkung von Regen- und anderen Würmern, biologisch abzubauen. Die Schüler/innen des BRG solarCity in Linz vergruben Faservliese, also Grundmaterialien, wie sie unter anderem in Feuchttüchern zum Einsatz kommen, in einem Stück des Bodens, der von vielen Regenwürmern besiedelt war, die Schüler/innen der Mittelschule für Sport und Integration Vöcklabruck wiederum packten Textilien in eine Wurmkiste. In beiden Fällen sollte der Frage nachgegangen werden, inwieweit sich bestimmte Materialien rasch biologisch abbauen lassen. Und tatsächlich zeigte sich in beiden Projekten, dass holzbasierte Fasern, wie sie Lenzing sowohl für die Textil- als auch für die Vliesstoffindustrie herstellt, sehr rasch zerfallen, sich wieder in ihre natürlichen Bestandteile auflösen und von der Erde aufgenommen werden. Fossiles Plastik hingegen, etwa in Form von Polyester oder Polyethylen, kann von der Erde, den Würmern und Bakterien nicht aufgespalten werden, es bleibt vielmehr in der Erde bestehen – und das unter Umständen mehrere hundert Jahre.

Avgol names Tommi Bjornman as new CEO

Avgol, a subsidiary of global petrochemical producer Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL),  appointed Mr. Tommi Bjornman as its new CEO, replacing Mr. Shachar Rachim who takes up a broader role as CEO leading the Hygiene vertical of IVL’s Fibers business.

Mr. Bjornman’s new position with Avgol took effect on 1 June, 2021. The Hygiene business is one of 16 integrated verticals under Indorama Ventures, and comprises brands including Avgol, Auriga, FiberVisions, ES FiberVisions, Trevira and Wellman. Avgol, a subsidiary of global petrochemical producer Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL),  appointed Mr. Tommi Bjornman as its new CEO, replacing Mr. Shachar Rachim who takes up a broader role as CEO leading the Hygiene vertical of IVL’s Fibers business.

Mr. Bjornman’s new position with Avgol took effect on 1 June, 2021. The Hygiene business is one of 16 integrated verticals under Indorama Ventures, and comprises brands including Avgol, Auriga, FiberVisions, ES FiberVisions, Trevira and Wellman. Mit Hilfe eines modifizierten Heißprägeprozesses gelang die Erzeugung hydrophober Oberflächen - einer speziell entwickelten Oberflächenstruktur zur Nachahmung natürlicher Effekte. „Hydrophob kommt aus dem Altgriechischen und bedeutet ‚wassermeidend‘. Ein Extrembeispiel für solch eine Oberfläche sind die Blätter und Blüten der Lotusblume“, erklärt Robert Staudte, Sales Director SAUERESSIG Surfaces. Diese ist rau und zusätzlich mit wasserabweisenden Substanzen bedeckt. Durch seine typische Noppenstruktur gibt es nur wenige Kontaktstellen, so dass Tropfen darauf fast rund erscheinen. „Diese geringe Benetzbarkeit ist die Grundlage der von uns entwickelten Mikrostruktur. Je nach Material können wir mit Wasser auf der Oberfläche einen Kontaktwinkel von bis zu 150° erzeugen.“ Damit perlt Flüssigkeit sehr gut ab und aufliegende Schmutzpartikel werden leicht weggespült. Diese Selbstreinigungsfähigkeit vermindert die feste Anhaftung von Verschmutzungen aller Art und vereinfacht die Reinigung erheblich. Besonders bei Bodenbelägen und Möbeloberflächen sind Eigenschaften wie wasserfest oder feuchtigkeitsresistent für viele Verbraucher zum Synonym für besonders unempfindliche und pflegeleichte Produkte geworden. „Wir sehen in den hydrophoben Oberflächen großes Potenzial für die unterschiedlichsten Bereiche. Mit mittels Pikosekundenlaser gravierten Prägewalzen, ist es uns bereits gelungen, diesen Effekt auch in Coatings und Folien zu übertragen“, so Staudte.

SAUERESSIG Surfaces bietet seinen Kunden dazu umfassende Service- und gemeinsame Entwicklungsoptionen. Neben technischer Beratung und der Abwägung von Umsetzbarkeiten, unterstützen die Experten auch mit individueller Strukturentwicklung. Im hauseigenen Technikum können zudem Testabprägungen mit Heißprägeverfahren auf Folien bis 200°C realisiert werden.

  • Neues Tiefdruckzentrum am Standort Mönchengladbach

Der SAUERESSIG Surfaces Standort in Mönchengladbach vereint von der Rohkörperfertigung über die galvanischen Prozesse bis hin zu den Gravurverfahren Molettage, Laserdirektgravur und Ätzung, alle gängigen Technologien unter einem Dach. Bereits im vergangenen Jahr wurde mit dem Ausbau und der umfassenden Modernisierung des Tiefdruckzentrums begonnen. Neben der Investition in neue Gravurmaschinen und Galvanikanlagen, wurden die Fertigungsprozesse in einem Flussprinzip angeordnet, um so eine optimale Durchlaufzeit und Qualität zu garantieren. Um auch den stetig wachsenden Anforderungen im Bereich der Mikrostrukturierung von Oberflächen gerecht zu werden, wurde zudem das Laserzentrum am Standort ausgebaut. „Mit den jüngst getätigten Investitionen und Umbauten, sehen wir uns für die Zukunft sehr gut aufgestellt und bieten auch weiterhin hervorragende Möglichkeiten gemeinsam mit unseren Kunden innovative Prozesse und Produkte zu entwickeln“, sagt Staudte.

Robert Staudte ist seit Oktober 2020 als Sales Director bei SAUERESSIG Surfaces tätig. Nach fast zwanzigjähriger Betriebszugehörigkeit bei der Windmöller GmbH, sammelte er bei der SWISS KRONO TEX GmbH & Co. KG sowie LCC Fiberon, North Carolina, weitreichende, internationale Kenntnisse bei führenden Unternehmen der Fußbodenindustrie. Zuletzt war Robert Staudte mehrere Jahre bei der Westag & Getalit AG und verfügt somit über essenzielles Know-How im Bereich von Holzwerkstoff- und Kunststoffoberflächen. Als neuer Vertriebsleiter bei SAUERESSIG Surfaces übernimmt er zukünftig standortübergreifend die Verantwortung für die Bereiche Dekor und Fußboden.

PCMC names Stan Blakney as President of global operations

Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC) is pleased to announce that Stan Blakney has accepted the position of President of its global operations. In addition to leading the company’s US business, as he has since February 2019, Blakney now will assume leadership of operations in Italy and Serbia as well.

Since Blakney joined PCMC, he has led the company’s expansion in flexographic-printing, bag-converting and hygiene solutions, while also continuing to drive growth in tissue converting and packaging.

The creation of this new role enables PCMC to further unify its operations worldwide and expand into new geographies across all of its markets. It also enhances aftermarket support globally for its customers.

Mit hochkarätigen, informativen Vorträgen, abwechslungsreichen Diskussionsrunden sowie seinen Interaktionsmöglichkeiten wird das Treffen der Weltbaumwoll- und Textilwertschöpfungskette seinem hohen Ansehen in der Branche auch diesmal wieder gerecht.

Dabei scheut man sich nicht auch Themen aufzugreifen, die in der Öffentlichkeit häufig im Fokus der Kritik stehen. Ein Beispiel dafür ist die zweistündige Paneldiskussion am Mittwoch, dem 17. März, bei der es um die Beantwortung wesentlicher Fragen zu Prozessen und Verfahren verantwortungsbewusster Faserproduktion geht. Hier sollen aktuelle und zukünftige Standards gegenübergestellt und verglichen werden.
Mark Messura, Senior Vice President der Global Supply Chain Marketing Division bei Cotton Incorporated, Cary, USA, leitet die Paneldiskussion. Er blickt in seiner Laufbahn auf eine 27-jährige Erfahrung bei Produktionsverfahren und der Vermarktung von Baumwolle zurück.

Seine Diskussionspartner sind fünf Teilnehmerinnen, die in Bereichen der Agrarforschung und der Naturfaserproduktion sowie bei Nichtregierungs-organisationen tätig sind.

La Rhea Pepper: Sie gehört der fünften Generation einer texanischen Baumwollfarmfamilie an. La Rhea Pepper ist Expertin für Biobaumwollanbau und Chief Executive Officer (CEO) von Textile Exchange. Als weltweit operierende Non-Profit-Organisation verfolgt Textile Exchange das Ziel, gemeinsam mit ihren Mitgliedern nachhaltige Produktionsstandards für unterschiedliche Faser- und Materialgruppen zu entwickeln.

Jessi Christiansen ist seit 2018 Global Manager Cotton, Sorghum & Alfalfa für Bayer Crop Science, St. Louis, USA. Zuvor war sie zehn Jahre in verschiedenen Führungspositionen für den Monsanto-Konzern tätig. Als führendes Unternehmen in der Agrarwirtschaft kann Bayer die Zukunft der Landwirtschaft für Landwirte, Verbraucher und unseren Planeten prägen - durch wegweisende Innovationen, neue Standards bei der Nachhaltigkeit und eine beschleunigte digitale Transformation. Dalena White ist General Secretary der International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) in Brüssel. Seit 1930 vertritt die IWTO die gemeinsamen Interessen des internationalen Wollhandels und sorgt durch Maßnahmen im Bereich Forschung, Beratung und Information für eine auf Nachhaltigkeit basierende Zukunft der Naturfaser Wolle und ihrer Verarbeitung zu Textilien.

Janet O’Regan ist Director Nonwovens Marketing for Cotton Incorporated, USA. In dieser Position evaluiert sie Einsatzmöglichkeiten für Baumwolle im Bereich von Vliesstoffen und weiteren nicht traditionellen Märkten. Gleichzeitig entwickelt sie Strategien zu deren Vermarktung. Sie stellt ein Verfahren zur Verarbeitung von Baumwolle zu einem plastikähnlichen Material vor. Das soll helfen, den Verbrauch erdölbasierter Einweg-Plastikprodukte zu verringern, wie es die Europäische Union mit ihren geplanten Verordnungen anstrebt.

In der Paneldiskussion wird auch ein Vertreter der Better Cotton Initiative mitwirken. BCI ist in ausgewählten Ländern seit Jahren darin engagiert, den Baumwollanbau von Farmern auf Basis regionaler Gegebenheiten kontinuierlich zu verbessern. Dabei können die Projekte unterschiedliche Schwerpunkte haben.

Doch damit nicht genug: Unter der Headline ‚Passion for Sustainability‘ findet am Donnerstag, dem 18. März nachmittags eine Session statt, in deren Mittelpunkt Projekte des nachhaltigen Baumwollanbaus stehen.

Vivek Kumar Rawal, CEO and Director, bioRe India Ltd. berichtet über Herausforderungen und Perspektiven beim Anbau von Biobaumwolle in Indien. Eine wesentliche Aufgabe sieht Vivek Kumar Rawal darin, den Biobaumwollsektor und die Entwicklung von GMO-freiem Saatgut voranzutreiben.

„Passion for Sustainability in Cotton“ lautet das Thema des Vortrags von Suzanne Barratt. Sie ist Manager Communication for Field Crops, Seeds & Traits in der Region Europa, Mittlerer Osten und Afrika bei der französischen BASF-Tochter in Lion. Sie berichtet über Ergebnisse beim Einsatz des ‚Certified Sustainable FiberMax®-Program‘ in Griechenland.
