Der internationale Technologiekonzern ANDRITZ erhielt von Albaad Massuot Yitzhak Ltd. den Auftrag zur Lieferung einer neXline wetlace-Hybridlinie für das Werk Dimona, Israel. Die Linie wird eine Vielzahl an zellstoffbasierten Feuchttüchern produzieren. Die Inbetriebnahme ist für das dritte Quartal 2021 geplant.

Die moderne neXline wetlace-Hybridlinie bildet die perfekte Kombination von Inline-Trockenvlies-und -Nassvliesbildung mit Wasserstrahlverfestigung und Trocknung und enthält auch Qualitätssicherungsausrüstungen sowie ein Metris Industrie 4.0-Paket. Alle Komponenten werden von ANDRITZ geliefert und sind für die Produktion hochwertiger Vliesstoffe – darunter biologisch ab-baubare, carded-pulp und spülbare bzw. auflösbare Vliesstoffe für Anwendungen als Feuchttücher – konzipiert.

Marchi & Fildi Group: Positive balance for 10 years of the photovoltaic installation

10 years after the installation of the photovoltaic plant in the production units in the Biellese region, the Marchi & Fildi Group takes stock of the operation and publishes the data on energy produced, consumed, and fed back into the grid.

The photovoltaic plant owned by the Group is made up of 11,385 modules divided between the three facilities in Biella (Production), Cerrione (Dyeing mill) and Verrone (Logistics), which in total cover a surface of 16,515 sq.m.

The balance to be drawn from these 10 years is a positive one: in total 22,974,828 kWh have been produced, of which 7,292,027 kWh have been used in company activities, with a saving in energy costs of approximately €1m over 10 years.  

The energy kWh produced and not used by the company was fed back into the grid and corresponds to the average annual consumption of around 4630 families.*

The Marchi & Fildi Group has always been committed to rationalising electric energy consumption with the aim of contributing towards an eco-sustainable development without compromising the rate of production and the ability to grow. In addition to producing its own electric energy, over the years, the company has also achieved an increasing number of Energy Efficiency Titles (TEE), otherwise known as white certificates. In 2021, 138 TEEs have been awarded as a result of such interventions as the introduction of LED lighting and the optimisation of the production processes which, while still as efficient as before, permit the company to reduce the electric energy consumption of the machinery.

*In the meter class for the range of 3kW to 4.5 kW, the average consumption for residential properties is the equivalent of 3,382 kWh (source: Arera Relazione annual state of services for the year 2020). The calculations are the results of an internal study conducted by the Marchi & Fildi Group.

In line with the company’s commitment to support customers with high performance products, while also reducing the impact on the environment, several of the  Hygiene Fibers brands, including Wellman International, Trevira GMBH and Auriga, have been working closely over the last 12 months with the IAM team and the CiCLO® technology. Developments have focused on PET and rPET staple fiber and filament sustainable solutions for applications where recycling is particularly challenging, such as Hygiene, Home Textiles and Automotive applications.

Strengthening the profile of biodegradable offerings within the Hygiene Fibers Group’s sustainability portfolio, Trevira introduced a new range of bicomponent fibres based on PLA and PBS (polybutylene succinate) at the Index show. Both biopolymers offer an exceptional technological opportunity in terms of environmental care and sustainability, while delivering optimum performance. Equally to PLA, PBS is recyclable and up to 100% biodegradable under industrial conditions.

Efforts towards supporting customers to achieve circular objectives are a priority within the Hygiene Fibers Group. This is reflected in the recycled fibers expertise deployed across the segment. Four Hygiene Fibers Group brands, IVL Asia, Auriga, Trevira and Wellman International offer an extensive range of 100% recycled, accredited PET fibers, across a multitude of fiber and nonwovens applications.

The development and evolution of sustainable technologies is central to activity across IVL’s Hygiene Fibers Group, with particular focus on sustainable polyolefin solutions. FiberVisions and ES-FIBERVISIONS, leading Polyolefin mono and bico fiber brands and sister company Avgol, have partnered with UK-based Polymateria to commercially harness the innovative ‘biotransformation’ technology pioneered by Polymateria. The patented technology alters the properties of polyolefins to make them biodegradable in a natural process.  Other polyolefin sustainable innovations within the Hygiene Fibers Group were featured at Index include biosurfactant and biocolourant developments being undertaken by the Avgol team with FiberVisons progressing sustainable design solutions, including lightweight, high performance, reduced carbon solutions.

Beaulieu Fibres International showcasing its ‘fibres that build futures’ at INDEX

Beaulieu Fibres International is attending INDEX™20 in Geneva and is excited to accelerate its work helping customers to exceed in product performance and sustainability.

For nonwoven converters serving the hygiene segment, a feature at INDEX™20 will be the company’s optimized Meralux specialty fibre, with fit for use performance and sustainability properties. It offers opacity improvements (reduction of TiO2 for the same opacity levels), higher coverage, higher bulkiness, and improved liquid management.

In addition, Meralux fibres deliver substantial sustainability benefits including about 55% savings in raw materials, with equivalent carbon emission savings, thanks to weight reduction in nonwovens for the same coverage, and higher recyclability of PP/PE.

In addition, Beaulieu Fibres International’s new range of MONO low count and BICO fibres are setting new performance standards for the fast-growing air and liquid filtration markets.

At INDEX™20, Beaulieu Fibres International also presenets its Pilot Line to test the waters of co-development opportunities without risk. This is the background to the collaboration with Atelier Riforma, an innovative startup born in Turin (Italy) with a social vocation. Through the contribution of Officina+39’s RECYCROM™, it has been possible to obtain new pigment and dyestuff pulverizing discarded garments and pieces usually difficult to recover through tailoring transformation alone. The collection made it possible not to generate any waste, no new raw materials were required to create CircularKromia.

Ralph Lauren and Dow release manual for dyeing processes

Dow and Ralph Lauren Corporation released a detailed manual on how to dye cotton more sustainably and more effectively than ever before using ECOFAST™ Pure Sustainable Textile Treatment. With this manual, Ralph Lauren and Dow are open-sourcing this improved dyeing process to encourage adoption in the textile industry and help standardize a more sustainable and efficient cotton dyeing system for positive environmental impact.  

The co-developed, step-by-step manual details how to use ECOFAST™ Pure, a cationic cotton treatment developed by Dow, with existing dyeing equipment. Ralph Lauren, the first brand to use ECOFAST™ Pure, partnered with Dow to optimize and implement the technology in its cotton dyeing operations as part of its new Color on Demand platform.

With this manual, Ralph Lauren and Dow are open-sourcing this improved dyeing process to encourage adoption in the textile industry and help standardize a more sustainable and efficient cotton dyeing system for positive environmental impact.  

The co-developed, step-by-step manual details how to use ECOFAST™ Pure, a cationic cotton treatment developed by Dow, with existing dyeing equipment. Ralph Lauren, the first brand to use ECOFAST™ Pure, partnered with Dow to optimize and implement the technology in its cotton dyeing operations as part of its new Color on Demand platform.

Conventional fabric dyeing processes require trillions of liters of water each year, generating roughly 20% of the world’s wastewater.1, 2 Pretreating fabric with ECOFAST™ Pure helps significantly reduce the amount of water, chemicals and energy needed to color cotton, by enabling up to 90% less process chemicals, 50% less water, 50% less dyes and 40% less energy without sacrificing color or quality.3

Ralph Lauren began integrating Color on Demand into its supply chain earlier this year and first launched product utilizing ECOFAST™ Pure as part of the Company’s Team USA collection for the Olympic & Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. Designed to help address water scarcity and pollution caused by cotton dyeing, Color on Demand is a multi-phased system with a clear ambition to deliver over time the world’s first scalable zero wastewater cotton dyeing system. By 2025, the brand aims to use the Color on Demand platform to dye more than 80% of its solid cotton products.

The streetwear designer Ana Duarte has worked in close contact with the Milanese hub in order to create a 40 pieces collection where the approach to materials, suppliers, new business models and communication could include and support a holistic view of the sustainable values aligned with style, performances, look and touch and Duarte identity.

After being rewarded with the 2021 C.L.A.S.S. Icon Award, the Portuguese brand Duarte is ready to present its Spring/Summer 2022 collection developed with C.L.A.S.S. ecohub support. The streetwear designer Ana Duarte has worked in close contact with the Milanese hub in order to create a 40 pieces collection where the approach to materials, suppliers, new business models and communication could include and support a holistic view of the sustainable values aligned with style, performances, look and touch and Duarte identity.

The inspiration behind the collection is the superhero Tadao - Ana Duarte’s dog, an English Cocker Spaniel - which is the World Keeper fighting against the environmental issues mankind has generated. Like a protector of sustainability, it battles modern monsters as Smog Man, Fire Man, Deforestation Man and Wave man, who respectively represent the issues of air pollution, climate change, forest destruction and water overconsumption. A very simple, direct and engaging way of talking about hot topics and simple, direct solutions.

The collection is made of 20 outfits, mainly unisex apart from some of them typically feminine as the crop tops. Hints of bright red and mustard yellow are alternated with denim, grey and pale azure tones, blending in with the colorful prints. Accents of black - used in inserts or as piping - seem to emphasize the outline of the garments. The different textures of the materials create a sense of movement, further enhanced by the unique patterns. All the garments’ prints are exclusively designed by the designer, following each collection inspiration: this time, they recall urban landscapes and the appeal of big metropolis, with Tadao as protagonist in prints, patches and ankle socks.

Among the most representative Duarte outfits we find:

  • A matching sweater with trousers made of Newlife™, a yarn 100% made In Italy coming only from post- consumer, traceable plastic bottles.
  • A unisex oversized bomber is crafted from Newlife™, lined with precious 100% Bemberg™ by Asahi Kasei fabric by Gianni Crespi Foderami and matched with printed neoprene hoodie and shorts.
  • Long-panelled unisex coat and trousers made with ReLAST® denim by Candiani, a responsible textile featuring a premium recycled stretch yarn, ROICA™ by Asahi Kasei. The coat is lined with a fabric by Gianni Crespi Foderami in 100% Bemberg™ by Asahi Kasei, a new generation material made from the smart-tech transformation of cotton linter.
  • The same sustainable stretch yarn is implied in the responsible tulle by Iluna Group, and featured in a shorts and top women’s ensemble, paired with a neoprene printed bomber. The tulle is skillfully matched with 100% Tencel™ back in the loop fabric by Maeba International underneath it.

Ana Duarte is part of a new generation of designers with a new approach to sourcing and production: her research goes into different kind of business models to fit her responsible innovation and style needs at the same time. That’s why in her collection we can find amazing and unique combination of organic, recycled, Back in The Loop, innovative materials that are the right choice for the look&touch and the performance she’s looking for. Die nun erstmals vorgestellte biozidfreie Livinguard Technologie ist aufgrund ihrer auf elektrischer Ladung basierenden Funktionsweise sicher für den Menschen und stellt damit eine hervorragende umwelt- und ressourcenschonende Alternative zu herkömmlichen Desinfektionsmethoden dar. Wissenschaftliche Tests zeigen, dass die antimikrobiellen Eigenschaften an das Trägermaterial binden und so weder durch Zeitablauf oder andere Einflüsse (z.B. Waschung) an Wirksamkeit einbüßen. Da die Livinguard Technologie auf einem mechanischen Wirkprinzip basiert, ist die Bildung von Resistenzen äußerst unwahrscheinlich.
Die Wirksamkeit der zugrundeliegenden biozidfreien Technologie wurde von Dr. Torsten Koburger-Janssen (Hygiene Nord, Deutschland) begutachtet. In seiner Untersuchung konnte er nachweisen, dass die Gesamtkeimzahl auf mit Livinguard Technologie behandelten Textilien nach 48 Stunden signifikant niedriger lag als bei unbehandelten Stoffen. Auch wenn das Keimwachstum nicht völlig unterbunden wurde, so lag auch dieser Faktor deutlich niedriger als in der unbehandelten Vergleichsgruppe. Daneben wurde auch die versprochene Geruchsreduktion auf Textilien von Probanden bestätigt, ohne dass dies eine explizite Fragestellung dieser Gesamtkeimzahl-Untersuchung gewesen wäre.

Die Livinguard Technologie findet in den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen Anwendung, darunter im medizinischen Sektor sowie in diversen Industrien. Derzeit setzt Livinguard seine Technologie mit der biozid und der biozidfreien Formulierungsplattform bei Gesichtsmasken, Kleidung für den privaten Gebrauch und den Beruf, Hygieneprodukten, Computer-Tastaturen sowie bei Luft- und Wasserfiltern ein.

Das House of Sustainability von Freudenberg

Das Freudenberg House of Sustainability steht auf einem Fundament aus vier Elementen: Zertifizierungen, Rohmaterialien, Technologie und Produktionsbedingter CO2-Fußabdruck. Auf dem Fundament fußen sieben Säulen, die mehr als 500 nachhaltige Lösungen für Kunden beinhalten. Das House of Sustainability ermöglicht es Kunden, die richtige Lösung für ihre nachhaltigen Anwendungen und Nachhaltigkeitsziele effizient auszuwählen. Zudem sind alle Services von Freudenberg sichtbar und transparent.

Einführung des House of Sustainability von Freudenberg

Das House of Sustainability wird weltweit in einem Zeitraum von 12 Wochen eingeführt. Jede Woche präsentiert Freudenberg detaillierte Informationen zu jedem Element und jeder Säule des Hauses auf mehreren Kanälen. Das komplette House of Sustainability wird auf der ISPO Munich 2022 präsentiert.

Suominen’s HYDRASPUN® Regal receives Fine to Flush certification

Suominen has launched a second nonwoven product, HYDRASPUN® Regal, that has received the Fine to Flush Manufacturer’s Generic Certificate from Water UK. HYDRASPUN® Regal was developed to meet the increasing need for flushable wipes that are dispersible according to the Water UK’s flushability standard.

HYDRASPUN® Regal is made of plastic free and biodegradable raw materials, containing only cellulosic fibers. It also has a low-level carbon footprint due to its high pulp content.

Suominen was one of the first nonwoven substrate manufacturers to receive the Fine to Flush Manufacturer’s Generic Certificate from Water UK. The first certification was granted for HYDRASPUN® Royal in Spring 2020.

CHIC Shanghai startet am 9. Oktober 2021 mit rund 500 Brands

Vom 09.-11. 10. findet CHIC mit rund 500 Mode und Lifestylebrands auf 53.000 qm im National Exhibition & Convention Center in Shanghai statt und bietet einen Überblick über die Modeneuheiten in allen Fashion-Bereichen der nächsten Saison.

Chinesische Konsumenten legen zunehmend Wert auf nachhaltige Produkte, das Thema "Sustainability" ist in allen Bereichen der CHIC präsent, in Kooperation mit WGSN werden die neuesten Trends nachhaltiger Mode F/S 22 gezeigt. In Zusammenarbeit mit China Fashion und WWD werden Firmen im Rahmen des Events "Pursuer of excellence in sustainability" ausgezeichnet, die die Kriterien nachhaltiger Produktion einhalten.  

Besonderen Fokus legen die Veranstalter auf die Erweiterung der digitalen Tools für die Messeteilnehmer, die im Vorfeld der Messe für intensives Besuchermarketing genutzt wurden und auf der Messe Angebot und Nachfrage optimal vernetzen, hierbei spielt WeChat eine zentrale Rolle. Das CHIC WeChat Mini-Programm wurde erweitert und mit dem darin integrierten CHIC E-Katalog auf die Bedürfnisse der Aussteller und Besucher zugeschnitten.
