Mayer & Cie. CN Changzhou LLC, die chinesische Tochtergesellschaft des deutschen Rundstrick- und Flechtmaschinenbauers Mayer & Cie., hat sich zum Jahresbeginn in der Provinz Jiangsu angesiedelt. Der neue Standort umfasst eine rund 5.000 Quadratmeter große Produktionshalle und liegt innerhalb einer Industriezone, die auf die Beherbergung deutscher Unternehmen in China spezialisiert ist. Die am neuen Standort montierten Rundstrickmaschinen für den chinesischen Markt sollen in Zukunft verstärkt aus lokal beschafften Einzelteilen und Komponenten von verschiedenen Lieferanten bestehen.

Seit 2011 montiert Mayer & Cie. in seinem chinesischen Werk in Shanghai ausgewählte Maschinentypen für den lokalen Markt. Begonnen hatte man mit einer Single-Jersey-Maschine für die gängigsten Anforderungen. Heute umfasst das chinesische Inlandsportfolio vier Maschinentypen. Bisher waren die Strickköpfe für diese Rundstrickmaschinen im tschechischen Mayer & Cie.-Werk vorproduziert und dann nach China transportiert worden.

Von diesem “Strickkopfprinzip” verabschiedet sich der Hersteller nun. Es sei für den Start der Montagelinie absolut sinnvoll gewesen, sagt Benjamin Mayer, geschäftsführender Gesellschafter von Mayer & Cie. Allerdings lasse es wenig Raum für Flexibilität. Er erklärt: “Wir werden zukünftig alle Teile und Komponenten der in China monierten Maschinen von unterschiedlichen Lieferanten vor Ort beziehen. Damit können wir unseren lokalen Kunden attraktivere Preise und schnellere Lieferzeiten bei gleichen Qualitätsstandards anbieten. Wir versprechen uns von dieser Änderung eine bessere Positionierung unserer Produkte im einheimischen Markt.” Zudem wird das neue Werk über eine SAP-Anbindung an das Mutterhaus in Albstadt angeschlossen. Dies war zwingend notwendig, um Effizienz, Transparenz und Qualität zu steigern.

Der neue Sitz von Mayer & Cie. CN ist der deutsch-chinesische Innovationspark in Jintan in der Provinz Jiangsu. Die dort ansässigen Unternehmen genießen verschiedene Vorteile, darunter attraktive Standortkosten sowie die Nähe und den Austausch zu weiteren deutschen Unternehmen vor Ort. Außerdem unterstützt die Verwaltung des SGIP die Unternehmen bei der Suche nach Mitarbeitern, Lieferanten und Dienstleistern.

It will exhibit as part of the CustomEasy section, which involves the concept of Fashion at Work and explores customization in the presence of textile machinery and design software, represented in part by SHIMA SEIKI's lineup of WHOLEGARMENT® knitting machines and APEXFiz® design software.

All contribute to increased productivity of more than 25% over the previous MACH2®XS machine, as well as increased product range using a wider variety of yarn for supporting knits for all seasons, and higher quality for knitting beautiful fabrics and silhouettes; even items that were impossible to knit with the MACH2® series, including punch-lace patterns, variable stitch knitting and intarsia knitting. Setting new standards for the next generation of waste-free, sustainable WHOLEGARMENT® knitting, SWG-XR® at Pitti Filati will be shown in 15L and 18L as well as a prototype machine in 22L.

APEXFiz® subscription-based design software supports the creative side of fashion from planning and design to colorway evaluation, realistic fabric simulation and 3D virtual sampling. Virtual samples are a digitized version of sample making that are accurate enough to be used effectively as prototypes. By replacing physical samples, virtual samples reduce time, cost and material that otherwise go to waste.

The product planning capability of APEXFiz® is enhanced by several web services featured as part of the SHIMA SEIKI Online Services (SHIMA online) web platform. These include SHIMA Datamall™ digital content web service that allows users to search, browse and purchase a variety of useful data for streamlining the planning and production of fashion items, as well as the recently renewed yarnbank® digital yarn sourcing web service that offers digitized yarn data by yarn companies from around the world for download and use in virtual sampling. BTMA member Vickers Oils has marked an important milestone in its partnership with knitting machinery leader Lonati by earning Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) approval for its VICKERLUBE SOCK 46 needle oil.

VICKERLUBE SOCK 46 is a mineral-based needle lubricant designed to meet the criteria for modern knitting machine technology. It provides a high standard of lubrication as well as holding very good stability properties and having a high resistance to oxidation. The product is readily scourable and holds a well-balanced additive system meaning that it is fully compatible with all machine components. It can also be used with machines producing any yarn type – including tricky elastanes – to produce the highest quality end product.

Lonati, headquartered in Brescia, Italy, has been a prominent name in knitting machines for over 70 years, designing and manufacturing an impressive average of 8,000 annually. Groz-Beckert und Mayer & Cie. entwickeln Platine und Energiesparnadel

Gemeinsam mit dem deutschen Rundstrickmaschinenbauer Mayer & Cie. entwickelte Groz-Beckert in den vergangenen Jahren die optimierte Relanit-Platine SNK F. Davon unabhängig erfolgte die Entwicklung der neuen Energiesparnadeln LCmax™. Im Mittelpunkt beider Entwicklungen stehen die Themen Effizienz, Energieeinsparung und erhöhte Prozesssicherheit.

Groz-Beckert bietet interessierten Maschinenbauern verschiedene Kooperationsmöglichkeiten an, um gemeinsam Produkte neu zu entwickeln oder bestehende zu verbessern. Das Technologie- und Entwicklungszentrum (TEZ) von Groz-Beckert bietet den entsprechenden Rahmen für die sogenannten Co-Development-Projekte. Auf der ITMA in Mailand im Juni 2023 präsentierte Groz-Beckert unter dem Motto „Innovation through ccoperation“ einige der erfolgreichen Kooperationen. Darunter die zwei Neuentwicklungen, die mit Mayer & Cie. realisiert wurden. Auf der ITMA Asia im November 2023 stellte Groz-Beckert die beiden Neuheiten in Asien erstmalig vor.

Optimierte Relanitplatine SNK F
Ende 2018 trat der Rundstrickmaschinenbauer Mayer & Cie. an Groz-Beckert mit dem Wunsch heran, gemeinsam eine verbesserte und effizientere Platine für ausgewählte Maschinen der Relanit-Familie zu entwickeln, die ruhiger und sicherer im Nadelkanal läuft. Die innovative Platine verfügt über Federungen, deren Kräfte auf die verschiedenen Stärken unterschiedlicher Platinen abgestimmt wurden. Die durchgeführten Feldtests verliefen durchweg erfolgreich und bestätigten die Funktionalität und Vorteile.

Die neuentwickelten Relanit-Platinen SNK F werden durch ihre abgestimmte Federung sicher während des Schlossduchlaufs geführt und arbeiten entsprechend ruhiger. Dies erhöht die Prozesssicherheit und sorgt für eine verbesserte Warenoptik. Zudem konnte der Verschleiß an den Schwenkfüssen der Platinen verringert werden. Das erhöht die Standzeiten und macht den Prozess nachhaltiger und kosteneffizienter.

Höhere Energieeffizienz dank LCmax™  
Bei der zweiten Kooperation mit Mayer & Cie. hatte Groz-Beckert das Ziel, eine kostenreduzierende Energiesparnadel zu realisieren. Nach Entwicklung verschiedener Varianten, fiel die Wahl gemeinsam mit Mayer & Cie. auf eine Strickmaschinennadel mit neuartiger Wellenschaftform (LCmax™). Die ersten Prototypen wurden ausgiebig mit den Labormaschinen im TEZ von Groz-Beckert getestet.

Der wellenförmige Schaft der LCmax™ sorgt für eine geringere Anlagefläche der Strickmaschinennadel im Nadelkanal. Dies führt zu weniger Reibung, was die Maschinentemperatur verringert und Energieeinsparungen von bis zu 20 Prozent im Vergleich zu einer Standardnadel ermöglicht. Das spart Kosten und erlaubt zeitgleich die Ausnutzung maximaler Maschinengeschwindigkeiten.

Die Kooperationen zwischen Mayer & Cie. und Groz-Beckert gingen bei beiden Projekten über die reine Produktentwicklung weit hinaus. Neben Anwendungstechnik und Konstruktion waren auch die Bereiche Vertrieb und Einkauf der Unternehmen in einem engen Austausch.

SHIMA SEIKI will show its SWG061N2 compact WHOLEGARMENT® knitting machine which can produce a wide range of WHOLEGARMENT® items in their entirety without the need for linking or sewing. The SWG-N2 series “Mini” range is suited to the production of small knit items and accessories such as gloves, socks, hats and scarves as well as cozies, shoe uppers, bags, card cases, glasses cases, smartphone covers and other personal items. The N.SVR093SP is a conventional shaped knitting machine featuring a loop presser bed that yields novel fabrics with special inlay patterns that are produced by inserting yarn into knit fabric in a weave fashion, offering new and exciting possibilities in hybrid knit-weave textiles. Both machines will be shown knitting such items as bags and sporting goods to demonstrate the capability of current knitting technology for producing non-apparel items.

Virtual samples can furthermore be used in e-commerce to gauge consumer demand before production begins. Feeding that information back to production and combined with on-demand WHOLEGARMENT® knitting technology, production can be adjusted to optimize inventory and minimize leftover waste. APEXFiz® thereby helps to realize sustainability and digitally transform the fashion supply chain.

A new proposal in WHOLEGARMENT® knitting will also be shown in the form of the N.SVR®183 WHOLEGARMENT® knitting machine. SHIMA SEIKI's global standard in shaped knitting, the N.SVR® series now features a model for producing WHOLEGARMENT® knitwear using every other needle in fine gauge. N.SVR®183 is equipped with the R2CARRIAGE® system and a compact, lightweight carriage for even higher productivity. Shown in 21G at Pitti Filati 93, N.SVR®183 is the ideal machine for flexible, entry-level WHOLEGARMENT® production, with the versatility to respond to fluctuating market demand.

At SPINEXPO, SHIMA SEIKI will offer visitors a choice between its "SDS®-ONE APEX4" apparel design system and its "APEXFiz®" subscription-based design software. Whereas SDS®-ONE APEX4 is offered as an all-in-one proprietary hardware + software package, APEXFiz® is subscription-based design software that can be installed on customers' individual computers. Both SDS®-ONE APEX4 and APEXFiz® software support the creative side of fashion from planning and design to colorway evaluation, realistic fabric simulation and 3D virtual sampling. Virtual samples are a digitized version of sample making that are accurate enough to be used effectively as prototypes, replacing physical sampling and consequently reducing time, cost and material that otherwise go to waste. When a design is approved for production, knitting data is automatically generated for converting to machine data, allowing smooth communication for digitally bridging the gap between studio and factory. SHIMA SEIKI has been part of the MIT Media Lab as a Consortium Lab Member since 2018, collaborating on research for exploring next-generation technologies that open up new opportunities for the garment sector. The MIT Media Lab is now holding a series of online seminar sessions for middle/junior high school and high school students in Japan and around the world in order to share activities and experiences that address social issues through cross-sector and crossindustry collaboration.
