Monforts at Techtextil North America: Talking technical textiles

The full potential of advanced coating and finishing technologies for the production of technical textiles will be outlined by Monforts specialists which takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, in May.

The company and its US representative PSP Marketing, of Charlotte, North Carolina, will be part of the VDMA German Pavilion at the show, at stand 3231 within the Georgia World Congress Center.

A wide range of technical fabrics is now being successfully created with MontexCoat coating units in comination with Montex stenters, including tents, tarpaulins and awnings, black-out roller blinds and sail cloth, automotive interior fabrics and medical disposables.

Full PVC coatings, pigment dyeing or minimal application surface and low penetration treatments can all be carried out with the extremely versatile system. Solvent coatings in explosion-proof conditions, knife coating, roller coating and screen printing are further options and the MontexCoat has been engineered to enable users to switch quickly from one fabric run to the next without compromising on the economical use of energy or raw materials.

“There has already been terrific interest in the MontexCoat and the range of different techniques it enables and we’re far from exhausting its potential uses,” says Achim Gesser, Monforts Area Sales Manager who will be at the show in Atlanta. “For companies who don’t need such flexibility, the economical coaTTex unit is exclusively dedicated to air knife and knife-over-roller coating.

“At our ATC in Mönchengladbach, Germany, however, a MontexCoat unit has been integrated into a full Montex technical textiles pilot line, on which our customers can run trials of new fabrics and finishing formulations in widths of up to 1.8 metres. This line has been engineered to provide the ultimate in precision coating and finishing in industrial-scale trials.”

To fully demonstrate what’s possible, the Montex line at the ATC is able to treat materials not only at temperatures of up to 320°C, but apply separate coatings on the two sides of certain materials at different temperatures, within a single pass through the machine. To achieve this, the first two chambers of the stenter are fitted with TwinTherm burners for individual top/bottom heating. A temperature differential of up to 60°C can be achieved between the upper and lower nozzles within the chamber, depending on the treatment parameters.

“There are many applications where employing two separate temperature treatments is beneficial, such as floorcoverings – where the textile face fabric is treated at one temperature and the rubber backing at another – as well as PVC flooring employing chemical foams, black-out roller blinds with heavy backings or PTFE-coated filter materials,” Gesser explains.

Another key feature of the technical textiles line at the ATC is the Montex stenter’s special stretching device which is capable of pulling ten tons in length and ten tons in width – a huge amount per square metre of fabric and necessary in the production of materials such as woven or 3D knits for high temperature filter media.

Monforts also offers the special T-max grease-free stenter chain for high temperature treatments up to 320°C, at machine speeds up to 100m/min and transverse tension up to 2,500 N/m with the benefits of no maintenance and no grease marks on fabric.

“Technical textiles are extremely diverse in their end-use applications but the needs of the manufacturers of very different materials are still uniform in many respects,” says Gesser. “European-built Montex stenters provide maximum finishing efficiency and many of our customers are operating them 24 hours a day over seamless shifts.”

Existing customers include manufacturers in the fields of home textiles, geotextiles and automotive fabrics, as well as functional materials and dedicated Montex lines have also been supplied to producers of airbags, flame retardant barrier fabrics and spacer fabrics.

“Techtextil North America is a very important show for us because technical textiles are a key pillar of our production programme,” Gesser concludes. “North America is one of our major markets and we are looking forward to reconnecting with existing and potentially new customers at this always-vibrant show.”

In addition to its regular European Zone, the upcoming edition will launch two product zones, namely the Medtech & Protech Zone and the Mobiltech Zone, alongside other precisely crafted features.

With innovation and sustainability at its heart, the fair’s fringe programme will include events such as Econogy Talks, an innovative product showcase and other themed conferences and presentations, maximising promotion and information exchange between fairgoers.

No longer an initiative but a prevailing commitment, sustainability has opened up new possibilities for technical textile and nonwoven development. Speaking at the 2024 edition, Mr Lin Yang, Sales Department Minister of Nihon Glass Fiber Industrial Co., Ltd. commented: “The sustainability trend has fostered the robust growth of new energy vehicles and in turn the automotive interior material businesses. Under the global eco-trend, green application will become the core development of automotive textiles, with more and more car manufacturers applying functional fibres to make automotive materials more durable, anti-high-energy radiation and so on.”

A few booths away, Mr Denis Wallrafen, Sales Manager of Reifenhäuser Enka Tecnica, also referred to sustainability as “the rule for success”, saying that the company has “developed an innovative, cost-effective method for refurbishing spunbond and meltblown spinnerets without compromising quality, with the same excellent performance of a new spinneret.”

Sustainability and innovation will again be strong focuses for Cinte Techtextil China in 2025, as will its propensity to bridge gaps between Asian and Western markets. Speaking at the previous edition, which attracted nearly 17,000 visits from 77 countries and regions, Mr Kabilen Sornum, Vice President Asia Pacific of Marketing & E-Commerce at Groz-Beckert East Asia said: “As one of the most important fairs for us in China, Cinte Techtextil China covers the domestic market, while we also receive a lot of international visitors here, allowing us to exchange ideas and gain market insights. As China is a very big market, very often we sell directly and indirectly to them during the fair, where all our users come together.”

Ihre zunehmende Bedeutung unterstreicht eine Analyse des Marktforschungsunternehmens „MarketsandMarkets“ aus dem Jahr 2021. Der globale Markt für Textilchemikalien soll demnach auf ein Volumen von 33,1 Milliarden US-Dollar im Jahr 2026 wachsen. Als Treiber nennt die Studie unter anderem die steigende Nachfrage nach Chemikalien für den stark wachsenden Markt der technischen Textilien.
Textile Chemicals & Dyes sind relevant für alle Anwendungsbranchen wie Outdoor- und Schutzbekleidung, Industrie, Automobil, Luft- und Raumfahrt, Medizintechnik, Filtration und Bau.

Ob bei Vliesstoffen, beschichteten Textilien oder funktionalen Bekleidungstextilien – Chemikalien und Färbemittel sind für die Textilherstellung unverzichtbar. In verschiedenen Vorbehandlungs-, Färbe- und Veredelungsprozessen bestimmen sie das optische Erscheinungsbild von Fasern, Garnen, Vliesstoffen und textilen Flächen. Sie verleihen ihnen wichtige Funktionen. Textilchemikalien versehen Outdoor-Regenjacken mit wasserabweisender Imprägnierung, Arbeitskleidung mit Performance und sorgen für knitterfreie und weiche Bettwäsche trotz häufiger Wäschen. Sie sterilisieren medizinische Textilien für den sicheren Einsatz im OP, schützen Erosionsschutzvliese im Straßenbau vor UV-Strahlung und machen textile Industriefilter öl- und wasserabweisend. Außerdem gewährleisten sie den Flammschutz von Feuerwehranzügen und verbessern die Haltbarkeit von Airbags, damit diese ein Autoleben lang zuverlässig funktionieren.

DILO receives award for the new development “MicroPunch”

At this year's CINTE Techtextil fair in Shanghai, DILO received the innovation award for its intensive needling technology “MicroPunch”. Recent developments in energy costs, particularly for electricity and gas, and given the increasing shortage of water resources, have led to a shift in thinking over the past few years. Together with economic efficiency, the evaluation of the environmental impact of production has become increasingly important.

At this year's CINTE Techtextil fair in Shanghai, DILO received the innovation award for its intensive needling technology “MicroPunch”. Recent developments in energy costs, particularly for electricity and gas, and given the increasing shortage of water resources, have led to a shift in thinking over the past few years. Together with economic efficiency, the evaluation of the environmental impact of production has become increasingly important.

For DILO, this meant focusing on needling technology for the fine and lightweight nonwoven sector over the last years. The individual elements of the intensive needling technology underwent a complete revision. It became clear that the high production rates could only be achieved using the two-dimensional kinematics of the needle beam of "HyperPunch" or "CycloPunch." The necessary high feed rates of around 50 mm per stroke, coupled with the highest stitching densities to achieve good abrasion resistance, led to a need of a significant increase of the number of needles and needle density—almost doubling from approximately 20,000 needles/meter/board to around 45,000 needles/meter/board. It also became obvious that ensuring a high efficiency rate in production also required the careful attention to a quick assembly of the needle boards with needle modules. A completely new approach was needed in the design and construction of the needle boards to enable rapid module exchange and achieve a very high mechanical precision.

Previously, needling technology was primarily used for a surface weight range starting at 100 g/m² up to several kilograms per m². The expansion into the range below 100 g/m², and potentially down to 30 g/m², now completes the applicability of needling technology. The intensive needling technology "MicroPunch" opens up an economical field for a wide variety of lightweight nonwoven fabrics that can be produced by a pure mechanical processes. The product characteristics achieved, such as abrasion resistance, are comparable to those of hydroentangeld nonwovens. Needled fabrics tend to have more volume and more stretch while offering similar tensile strength values. These special quality characteristics are particularly interesting for applications in hygiene, medicine, cosmetics, and for technical products.

With this new development, the energy required to produce lightweight nonwoven fabrics has been reduced up to approximately 75% compared to other bonding technologies of this segment.

KARL MAYER at CAMX: Solutions for composite reinforcements

KARL MAYER North America will return to exhibit at CAMX, a composites trade show, taking place from September 9 to 12, 2024 in San Diego. Here it will present as an innovative partner to the composites industry with machines such as the COP MAX 4, a all-rounder to produce multilayer, multiaxial fabric structures; the COP MAX 5, specifically for processing carbon fibers; and the UD 700 fiber spreading system. Furthermore, a new machine was launched this spring, called MAX GLASS ECO.

Besides the machines, KARL MAYER supports customers with pioneering application developments. The focus of the medial presentation will be the processing of natural fibers into sustainable composite reinforcements. In cooperation with representatives of the winter sports industry, KARL MAYER has already processed hemp tapes and flax fibers into non-crimp fabrics for snowboards and skis with COP MAX 4. The fair will closely align with Messe Frankfurt’s ‘Texpertise Econogy’ – the umbrella for the group’s sustainability activities at its more than 50 textile trade shows worldwide. New energy elements, such as battery and hydrogen, will appear at the Innovation Showcase Area, on top of other interactive fringe events which centre around sustainability.

The show saw 15,542 visits from 52 countries and regions last year.

Speaking at the show, Mr Kabilen Sornum, Vice President Asia Pacific of Marketing & E-Commerce, commented: “While we are focusing on the China market, we have also seen buyers from the Middle East, Europe, Korea, and North Asia. Cinte Techtextil China is a more international fair – we can see that everyone is here, and the quality and innovation of buyers has improved greatly in the past three to four years. E-mobility and sustainability are two very clear trends.”

Walter Reiners Foundation awards Six Young Engineers

At the Techtextil trade fair in Frankfurt, the Chairman of the Walter Reiners Foundation of the VDMA, Peter D. Dornier, presented awards to six successful young engineers. Promotion and sustainability prizes were awarded in the categories bachelor/project theses and diploma/master theses. Academic theses in which, for example, solutions for resource-saving products and technologies are developed are eligible for the sustainability prizes.

The Walter Reiners Foundation awarded Anna Markic a sustainability prize worth 3,000 euros in the Bachelor's category. The topic of her thesis, written at Reutlingen University, was the recycling of carbon fibres.

Mark Zenzinger, Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, received a 3,000 euro promotion award in the Bachelor's category. His topic was the automation of the process chain for the production of welded textile hard goods.
 
Lena Fink from the TU Dresden received another promotion award worth 3,000 euros. Her construction engineering project work focused on a device to simplify the maintenance of braiding machines.

Katharina Maria Ernst, TU Dresden, was honoured with a sustainability prize of 3,500 euros in the Master's category. Her work focused on the development of a suitable process for the treatment of chitosan fibres as an alternative starting product in the production of carbon fibres.

Lennart Hellwig, RWTH Aachen University, was awarded a 3,500 euro prize in the Master's category. He focused on the topic of machine learning using the example of a nonwovens plant.

Baden-Württemberg International (BW_i) präsentierte in Zusammenarbeit mit Südwesttextil und der Allianz Faserbasierter Werkstoffe Baden-Württemberg (AFBW) einen Marktplatz für textile Innovationen auf der Techtextil. Mit 19 Vertreter*innen von Unternehmen und Forschungseinrichtungen aus der Region bot der Stand unter dem Motto „Come Together – Create Opportunities“ eine Plattform für Begegnung, Vernetzung und Austausch.

Wie KI im Unternehmen zum Einsatz kommen kann, haben die Gäste der Veranstaltung „KI-Readiness: Mit Intelligenz zu mehr Effizienz“ im Rahmen der Messe Techtextil in Frankfurt am Main am 25. April erleben können.

Welche Impulse es braucht, um Innovationen in Unternehmen einzuführen und wer die Impulsgeber für die digitale Transformation in Unternehmen sind, diskutierten in Frankfurt der Unternehmer Axel Pieper von Brückner Trockentechnik GmbH & Co. KG, Thomas Fischer von den Deutschen Instituten für Textil- und Faserforschung gemeinsam mit Stefan Hauser vom Münchner Start-up Brakeable sowie Mareike Giebeler, verantwortlich für Digitale Innovationen, Start-ups und Nachhaltigkeit beim Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Smarte Kreisläufe. Das Fazit der Gesprächsrunde: Künstliche Intelligenz in die Digitalstrategie des Unternehmens aufnehmen, durch die Kooperation mit Start-ups zusätzliche Innovationskraft ins Haus holen und den Austausch mit Gleichgesinnten suchen.

RadiciGroup: a Physical and digital nylon traceability

RadiciGroup announced the launch of the first physical and digital nylon traceability project at Techtextil 2024. A gilet made from the yarn manufactured in one of the Group’s European industrial sites, which, thanks to a QR code on the garment, can reveal its origin and display information about its production process.

Product traceability is a key element in guaranteeing transparency along the entire supply chain, as it means each stage of production – from spinning to weaving and from packaging through to retail – can be monitored and recorded. The project, made possible by a partnership with FibreTrace, allows manufactured nylon yarns to be traced both physically and digitally. In fact, RadiciGroup inserts a tracer (an inorganic additive) that is uniquely associated with the yarn and remains identifiable throughout all stages of processing – on both the fabric and the finished garment. Naturally, the tracer does not alter the esthetical, functional and technical performance of the yarns in any way.

In terms of digital traceability, during the production stages a scanner detects the presence of the tracer and can transmit the data relating to provenance onto a dedicated digital platform. Finally, the consumer, via a QR code, can access the digital platform that provides all information concerning the provenance of the product and its journey through the supply chain.

Techtextil Innovation Awards 2024

Die Gewinner der diesjährigen Innovation Awards der internationalen Leitmessen Techtextil und Texprocess stehen fest. 15 Preisträger in acht Kategorien erhalten die Auszeichnung für wegweisende Forschung, neue Produkte, Verfahren oder Technologien. Die prämierten Innovationen zeigen textile Lösungen als essenzielle Treiber für Weiterentwicklungen in zahlreichen Branchen wie Luftfahrt, Automobil, Medizin oder Bau.

Die Gewinner der diesjährigen Innovation Awards der internationalen Leitmessen Techtextil und Texprocess stehen fest. 15 Preisträger in acht Kategorien erhalten die Auszeichnung für wegweisende Forschung, neue Produkte, Verfahren oder Technologien. Die prämierten Innovationen zeigen textile Lösungen als essenzielle Treiber für Weiterentwicklungen in zahlreichen Branchen wie Luftfahrt, Automobil, Medizin oder Bau.

Gewinner Techtextil Innovation Award

Flugzeuge besser recyceln
Leichter als viele Metalle und flexibel im Design: Faserverbundwerkstoffe sind aus der modernen Luft- und Raumfahrt nicht mehr wegzudenken. Die textilverstärkten Leichtbaumaterialien, meist eine Mischung aus Glas- oder Kohlenstofffasern und Kunstharz, reduzieren das Gewicht von Flugzeugen – und damit deren Treibstoffverbrauch – so stark, dass manche modernen Flieger inzwischen zu mehr als 50 Prozent aus ihnen bestehen. Damit stellt sich auch immer dringlicher die Frage nach dem Recycling dieser Verbundmaterialien. Für ein neues Verfahren, mit dem Flugzeugteile aus thermoplastischem Faserverbund künftig besser recycelt werden können sollen, erhält das belgische Textilforschungsinstitut Centexbel den Techtextil Innovation Award in der Kategorie „New Approaches on Sustainability & Circular Economy“. Das prämierte Verfahren, dessen Entwicklung nach Angaben von Centexbel eng von Airbus begleitet wurde, nutzt Induktionswärme. Mit ihrer Hilfe kann man verschweißte thermoplastische, textilverstärkte Verbundwerkstoffe erhitzen und anschließend voneinander lösen. Stringer, Teile von Tragflächen und andere textilbasierte Flugzeugteile sollen sich so künftig besser trennen und wiederverwenden lassen.

Smartes Dach
Der Techtextil Innovation Award in der Kategorie „New Product“ geht an das portugiesische Technologiezentrum für Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie CITEVE für ein intelligentes, textilverstärktes Abdichtungssystem für Flachdächer. Das „Smart Roofs System“ (SRS) besteht aus einer thermisch reflektierenden, flüssigen Abdichtungsmembran auf Wasserbasis und einer intelligenten textilen Verstärkungsstruktur aus einem Jacquard-Gewebe aus recyceltem Polyester. Diese enthält elektronische Garne, die auf Wärme, Temperatur und Feuchtigkeit reagieren. Das innovative System bietet laut CITEVE eine bessere technische Leistung und ist nachhaltiger als bisherige Lösungen für Flüssigmembranen.

Drei Preisträger in der Kategorie „New Technology“:

Selbstkühlende Textilien gegen Klimawandel-Folgen
Eine neuartige Beschichtung für selbstkühlende Textilien der Deutschen Institute für Textil- und Faserforschung Denkendorf (DITF) erhält einen Techtextil Innovation Award in der Kategorie „New Technology“. Anders als Sonnenschirme oder Markisen, die die Sonneneinstrahlung nur indirekt abhalten, ermöglicht die Beschichtung es Textilien, selbst aktiv zu kühlen. Dazu reflektiert sie nicht nur das Sonnenlicht, sondern strahlt auch Wärmeenergie wieder ab. Die Entwicklung der Beschichtung erfolgt auch vor dem Hintergrund steigender Temperaturen durch den Klimawandel. Der Kühlenergiebedarf in Städten sei zwischen 1970 und 2010 um 23 Prozent gestiegen. Bisher sorgen vor allem Ventilatoren und Klimaanlagen für Abkühlung. Doch die verbrauchen viel Strom: Bereits 2018 schätzte die Internationale Energieagentur (IEA), dass rund zehn Prozent des weltweiten Strombedarfs auf Klimaanlagen und Ventilatoren entfallen; 2050 könnten Klimaanlagen laut IEA nach der Industrie der zweitgrößte Treiber des globalen Energiebedarfs sein.

Besserer Schutz vor Sepsiserregern
Sepsis, auch bekannt als Blutvergiftung, ist weltweit für jeden fünften Todesfall verantwortlich. Ursache der Infektion sind häufig Mikroorganismen wie Bakterien, Pilze oder Viren, die auch in Krankenhauswäsche vorkommen und von dort über Wunden in den Körper gelangen können. Das hessische Unternehmen Heraeus Precious Metals erhält einen Techtextil Innovation Award in der Kategorie „New Technology“ für eine neue antimikrobielle Technologie, die Krankenhauspatient*innen künftig besser vor Sepsiserregern schützen soll. Dabei handelt es sich um ein Additiv auf Edelmetallbasis mit dem Namen AGXX. Kleidung und Bettwäsche in Krankenhäusern und Pflegeeinrichtungen sollen so künftig besser antimikrobiell ausgestattet werden können als mit derzeitigen Lösungen. Und so funktioniert es: In Textilien eingearbeitet, löst AGXX durch das Zusammenwirken der Edelmetalle Silber und Ruthenium eine katalytische Reaktion aus, die reaktiven Sauerstoff erzeugt, der Mikroorganismen wirksam abtöten soll. Die antimikrobielle Wirksamkeit der prämierten Neuentwicklung konnte Heraeus nach eigenen Angaben bisher bei 130 verschiedenen Mikroorganismen nachweisen und zudem zeigen, dass diese auch nach 100 Wäschen im Textil erhalten bleibt.

Smarte Textilpumpe hält Kleidung trocken
Bei Kleidung ist Komfort einer der wichtigsten Aspekte. Er leidet schnell, wenn ein Kleidungsstück nass wird, zum Beispiel durch Schweiß. Um diesen künftig schon während des Tragens aus Hemd oder Jacke zu entfernen, hat das schwedische Unternehmen LunaMicro eine intelligente Feuchtigkeitsmanagement-Technologie entwickelt. Dabei handelt es sich um ein mehrlagiges, poröses Textil, das mit einer kleinen Batterie verbunden ist. Eingearbeitet in ein Kleidungsstück, soll diese smarte Textilpumpe Flüssigkeiten wie Schweiß aktiv aus dem Inneren der Kleidung nach außen befördern und die Träger*innen trocken halten. Für die in Schweden und den USA patentierte elektroosmotische Textilpumpe erhält das Unternehmen einen Techtextil Innovation Award in der Kategorie „New Technology“. Die Innovation soll schon bald in Outdoor- und Arbeitsschutzkleidung sowie in persönlicher Schutzausrüstung (PSA) zum Einsatz kommen.

Zwei Preisträger in der Kategorie “New Concept”:

Nachhaltiges Bauen: Bis zu 30 Prozent Beton einsparen
Rund 40 Prozent der globalen CO2-Emissionen entfallen derzeit auf den Bau- und Gebäudebereich. Vor allem bei der Herstellung von Beton, einem der wichtigsten Baustoffe, werden große Mengen CO2 freigesetzt. Das Institut für Textilmaschinen und Textile Hochleistungswerkstofftechnik (ITM) und das Institut für Massivbau (IMB) an der TU Dresden erhalten einen von zwei Techtextil Innovation Awards in der Kategorie „New Concept“ für ein neues Fertigungsverfahren von Betonfertigteilen unter Verwendung von Carbon, mit dem sich bis zu einem Drittel Beton einsparen lassen soll. Darum geht es: Um Material zu sparen, kommen im Neubau vorzugsweise sogenannte Hohlkörperdecken zum Einsatz. Das sind Betonfertigteile, die im Gegensatz zu massiven Stahlbetondecken Hohlräume enthalten und daher weniger Beton benötigen. Mit dem neuen Fertigungsverfahren, das die Institute mit Unternehmen der Textil- und Baubranche entwickelt haben, lassen sich Hohlkörperdecken-Betonfertigteile mit Carbon herstellen, die künftig noch weitaus mehr Beton und damit CO2 einsparen sollen. Mit dem prämierten Verfahren sollen sich Privat- und Industriegebäude schon bald nachhaltiger und ressourcenschonender bauen lassen als bisher.

Veganes Leder aus Hanfabfällen
Ebenfalls in der Kategorie „New Concept“ wird das Biotech-Start-up Revoltech mit einem Techtextil Innovation Award ausgezeichnet. Das junge Unternehmen aus Darmstadt erhält den Preis für seinen veganen, vollständig recycelbaren Lederersatz aus Hanffasern namens „LOVR“ (ein Akronym für „lederähnlich, ohne Plastik, vegan, reststoffbasiert“). Laut Revoltech ist es der „weltweit erste wirklich zirkuläre Lederersatz“. Vegane Lederalternativen hätten bisher oft zwei Probleme: Entweder seien sie nicht rein pflanzlich, weil sie erdölbasierte Bestandteile enthielten, oder sie würden im Labor gezüchtet und seien daher schwer skalierbar. LOVR dagegen vereint laut Fuhrmann Skalierbarkeit und 100-prozentige Kompostierbarkeit. Die für LOVR verwendeten Hanfabfälle stammen aus dem industriellen Hanfanbau. Der prämierte Lederersatz ist Revoltech zufolge bereits in Schuhen und in einem Konzeptfahrzeug des Autoherstellers KIA im Einsatz. Bald soll er auch bei Polstermöbeln, in Autoinnenräumen und Bekleidung für mehr Nachhaltigkeit sorgen.

Zwei Preisträger in der Kategorie “New Technologies on Sustainability & Recycling”:

Fasern nachhaltiger zu 3D-Formen verbinden
In der Kategorie „New Technologies on Sustainability & Recycling“ geht ein Techtextil Innovation Award an Norafin Industries aus dem sächsischen Mildenau. Der Preis würdigt das neue Verfahren „Hydro-Shape“, mit dem sich Fasern mit Hochdruckwasserstrahlen zu einer 3D-Form verbinden lassen. „Statt nur textile Flächen zu erzeugen, können mit dem neuen Verfahren dreidimensionale Strukturen von der Faser bis zum Endprodukt in einem Schritt hergestellt werden. Im Ergebnis entstehe ein textiles 3D-Produkt, das in Sachen Abfallreduzierung neue Wege gehe und zudem aus biologisch abbaubaren Naturfasern hergestellt werden könne. Die Entwicklung der Technologie erfolgte laut Jolly auch vor dem Hintergrund der Single-Use-Plastics Directive, einer EU-Richtlinie zur Bekämpfung von Einwegplastik, die 2021 in Kraft trat. Auf der Techtextil will Norafin das nun ausgezeichnete Fügeverfahren erstmals der Öffentlichkeit vorstellen.

Biobasierte Isolationstextilien statt synthetischer Dämmstoffe
Eine gute Wärmedämmung von Gebäuden ist wichtig für den Klimaschutz, denn sie reduziert den Energieverbrauch und damit die benötigte Heizenergie. Dämmstoffe wie Polyurethan oder Styropor dämmen zwar gut, enthalten aber auch fossile Rohstoffe. Um solche synthetischen Materialien in Zukunft zu ersetzen und nachhaltiger zu dämmen, hat das Aachener Start-up SA-Dynamics gemeinsam mit Industriepartnern recycelbare Dämmtextilien aus biobasierten Aerogelfasern entwickelt. Dafür erhält das Unternehmen den zweiten Techtextil Innovation Award in der Kategorie „New Technologies on Sustainability & Recycling“. Die EU und Regierungen vieler Staaten setzen auch bei der Gebäudedämmung verstärkt auf regulatorische Maßnahmen für mehr Klima- und Umweltschutz. Die neuen Isolationstextilien aus Aerogelfasern, die zu über 90 Prozent aus Luft bestehen und sich auf Textilmaschinen verarbeiten lassen, sollen synthetische Dämmstoffe in ihrer Schutzwirkung sogar übertreffen
