Mimaki: Neue wasserlose Textildirektdrucker für On-Demand-Produkte

Mimaki Europe, ein führender Anbieter von industriellen Tintenstrahldruckern, Schneideplottern und 3D-Druckern, stellt zwei neue Textildirektdrucker vor: den Tx330-1800 und den Tx330-1800B. Die Tx330-Serie treibt den Wandel in der Textilindustrie hin zu wasserlosen, hochwertigen Lösungen voran und spricht auch Bekleidungshersteller an, die einen Drucker suchen, der sowohl Qualität als auch Nachhaltigkeit bietet. Die Drucker sind mit einem dualen Tintensatz ausgestattet, der einen nahtlosen Wechsel zwischen Textilpigmenttinten und Sublimationstinten ermöglicht und so die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten weiter erweitert. Beide Tintenarten vereinfachen den Gesamtprozess durch ein unkompliziertes Hitzefixierungsverfahren nach dem Druck. Damit entfällt die Notwendigkeit, in Wasch- und Dampfanlagen zu investieren. Es dient nicht nur zur Wasserreduktion, denn der digitale Textildruck macht den Ein- bzw. Umstieg auch ohne jahrelange färbetechnische Expertise möglich.

Der Tx330-1800 ermöglicht den Direktdruck auf Stoff und Papier in einer Maschine, ideal für die Herstellung von Soft Signage und Heimtextilien. Der Tx330-1800B („B“ steht für „Belt“) nutzt ein platzsparendes Förderband, um stabil auf dehnbare, dicke und dünne Stoffe zu drucken, die üblicherweise für Bekleidung verwendet werden. Er ist damit ideal für die Produktion von Kleinserien unterschiedlicher Bekleidungen.

Arjen Evertse, General Manager Sales EMEA bei Mimaki Europe, kommentiert: „Mit Blick auf den heutigen Textilmarkt gehen wir davon aus, dass die Nachfrage nach lokal produzierten On Demand-Textilprodukten weiter steigen wird. Aus diesem Grund haben wir zwei Produkte auf den Markt gebracht, die einfach zu bedienen, vielseitig und nachhaltig sind. Sie richten sich an Druckereien, die Textildruckfunktionen auf kleinem Raum integrieren möchten, ohne dabei Kompromisse bei den Funktionen und der Qualität einzugehen.

Der Aspekt der Tintenvielseitigkeit dieser Drucker greift das wichtige Anliegen der industriellen Wasserverschmutzung auf, zu der allein die traditionelle Textilfärbung zu etwa 20 % beiträgt. Durch die Verwendung von Textilpigment- und Sublimationsverfahren machen Mimakis neueste Drucklösungen die großen Mengen an Wasser, die üblicherweise in der Nachbearbeitung benötigt werden, überflüssig und schaffen so einen wesentlich ressourceneffizienteren Prozess. Zudem wird der Energieverbrauch erheblich reduziert.“

Die Serie Tx330-1800 nutzt die Technologie aus der High-End-Serie 330 und bietet die gleichen scharfen Details und präzisen Farbdrucke wie die anderen Produkte der Serie (z.B. der Sublimationsdrucker TS330-1600).

Zusammen mit der Tx330-Serie führt Mimaki auch eine Textil-RIP-Software ein, die TxLink5. Diese neueste Version der TxLink-Software wurde entwickelt, um den Arbeitsablauf in Umgebungen mit mehreren Druckern weiter zu verbessern, so dass die Benutzer ihre Druckprozesse effizienter verwalten können.

Der Tx330-1800 und der Tx330-1800B werden beide ab Juni 2025 für den Textil- und Bekleidungsmarkt verfügbar sein.

Heimtextil 2025: Mimaki zeigt Textil-Transferdrucksystem mit Pigmenttinte

Mit dem umweltfreundlichen zweistufigen Textil-Transferdruckverfahren für Pigmenttinte soll das TRAPIS-System, das Anfang des Jahres auf den Markt kam, die Textilbranche revolutionieren. Da keine Vorbehandlung und kein Waschen der Textilien erforderlich sind, reduziert TRAPIS den Wasserverbrauch um bis zu 90 %. Gegenüber herkömmlichen Verfahren können etwa 14,5 Liter pro Quadratmeter eingespart werden. Diese wasserreduzierte Lösung bietet sich für Heimtextilien an, indem mit nur einer Tintenart farbenfrohe Drucke auf einer Vielzahl verschiedener Materialien möglich sind – einschließlich Naturfasern, Misch- und synthetischen Textilien. Die dazugehörige Pigmenttinte TP410 besitzt die Zertifizierung ZDHC MRSL Level 3 und trägt das bluesign® APPROVED-Siegel, das die Umwelt- und Anwendungssicherheit des Produkts gewährleistet. Damit bietet TRAPIS eine sichere, umweltfreundliche Lösung für Textilanwendungen in Bereichen wie Heimtextilien, Activewear und Mode.

Das TRAPIS-Drucksystem rationalisiert die Produktion, die nur einen Tintenstrahldrucker und einen Hochdruckkalander benötigen. Aufgrund seiner geringeren Größe benötigt das System nur wenig Platz. Auch kostspielige Abwasserbehandlungsanlagen sind nicht notwendig. Darüber hinaus ist die Lösung auch ohne komplexen Wartungsarbeiten einfach zu bedienen und lässt sich flexibel an die Anforderungen der Kunden anpassen wie z.B. bei Kleinserien, bei denen mehrere Materialien zum Einsatz kommen. Gleichzeitig bleiben hinsichtlich Sicherheit, Farbechtheit und Atmungsaktivität höchste Standards gewahrt.

Die TRAPIS-Roadshow
Nach der Bekanntgabe des Systems Anfang dieses Jahres dient die Heimtextil als Zwischenstopp auf der globalen TRAPIS-Roadshow, die am 27. November mit dem Mimaki Textile Day Open House in Amsterdam begann. Bei jeder Station wird TRAPIS auf einem anderen regionalen Markt vorgestellt; Interessierte können die neue Lösung in der Praxis erleben und die Innovation von Mimaki im Textilsektor aus nächster Nähe kennenlernen. Die Roadshow wird 2025 fortgesetzt und macht in Ländern wie Polen und Spanien Station; weitere Stopps werden im kommenden Jahr bekannt gegeben.

Mimaki: Printing on non-polyester materials

Polyester has been the cornerstone of the textile printing industry for decades. Its compatibility with the digital sublimation process—a cost-effective, simple technology—has driven exponential growth in polyester printing. However, the very characteristics that make polyester well suited for sublimation printing render this printing technique unsuitable for other materials, such as cotton and some blended fibres, leaving a significant gap in the market.

This gap was, until recently, partially filled by direct-to-textile printing. However, this method requires substantial initial investments in equipment and heavily relies on the time- and resource-consuming pre- and post-processing of fabrics to ensure colourfastness, colour accuracy, and compatibility with different substrates. Consequently, a need arose for a more sustainable and cost-effective solution that could cater to a wider range of textiles.

This gap was, until recently, partially filled by direct-to-textile printing. However, this method requires substantial initial investments in equipment and heavily relies on the time- and resource-consuming pre- and post-processing of fabrics to ensure colourfastness, colour accuracy, and compatibility with different substrates. Consequently, a need arose for a more sustainable and cost-effective solution that could cater to a wider range of textiles.

In response to this demand, Mimaki spent six years developing a breakthrough technology, TRAPIS, a simple two-step textile transfer printing solution, consisting of only an inkjet printer and a high-pressure calender. The design of choice is printed by the inkjet printer onto the company’s groundbreaking Texcol® pigment ink transfer paper. This is then transferred to the application via the calender.

Entirely removing the treatment stages means that printing on non-polyester materials has gone from an expensive and time-consuming task to one that is simple, cost-efficient and more sustainable.

Ideal for home textiles and soft signage which often require vibrant colours but varied materials, this technology gives printers the ability to print on a wide variety of materials, including natural fibres like cotton and silk without losing stretchability or colourfastness. All this can be done with just one type of ink, making the process flexible and adaptable to customer demands.  

The pre-treatment and washing of the fabric is often needed in digital dye printing, producing a significant amount of wastewater in the process. TRAPIS eliminates those stages altogether and is almost entirely waterless, saving around 14.5 litres per square metre of water, an almost 90% decrease in comparison to digital dye printing .

Additionally, this eliminates the need for wastewater treatment facilities, which can be both expensive and constrictive when it comes to where the solution is installed.

Digital Textile Micro Factory: on-demand and virtual products – on the path towards sustainable production
In cooperation with 12 partners from industry and research the DITF will demonstrate a Digital Textile Micro Factory live at drupa and, hence, a fully connected, integrated process chain from design to finished product. This will present new possibilities for digitalisation and direct customer involvement, for instance in the form of 3D apparel simulations complete with links to design networks for creative input. Digital workflows and virtual products are integrated directly in the manufacturing process. As a special highlight for all trade visitors the technology partners of this Micro Factory will demonstrate an automated on-demand production, textile printing, cutting and sorting – without any manual interaction. Such decentralised and digitally connected design and production chains will enable the textile industry to respond to customers’ requests and trends in a more targeted manner in future. This means, touchpoint textile 2024 technologically points the way to a future without shelf-warmers. In addition, the carbon footprint for the complete process from virtual development to finished product will be modelled and presented at the trade fair.  

2024 will see the design competition “drupa – textile design talents” being held for the first time. This was conceived of by the DITF and will be implemented by the partner Mitwill. This provides up-coming textile designers and newcomers with a unique opportunity to introduce their ideas and visions to a professional audience.

Broad industry support
A project as comprehensive as the Micro Factory requires many strong partners. The companies “on board” here include: Assyst/Germany (3D simulation for digital apparel twins), Mitwill Textiles Europe/France (creative design network), D.G.I. Digital Graphics Incorporation/South Korea, Multi-Plot Europe/Germany (large-format textile printing), LEONHARD KURZ Stiftung/Germany, Zünd/Switzerland (digital cutting), robotfactory/Denmark, Asco/The Netherlands (presenting an innovative buffer solution between digital printing and cutting, automated sorting of cut parts from the cutter by robotfactory) as well as Brother/Japan (for small-format textile printing and bonding technology). Vaude and berger textiles will be sponsoring the touchpoint. Another key partner is the Albstadt-Sigmaringen University that is supporting the project as a conceptual sponsor and which has set itself the clear mission to incorporate these new topics into its curriculum. This means the staff of the future will be geared up to the new challenges ahead.

Another partner of touchpoint textile is the European Specialist Printing Manufacturers Association (ESMA), which is responsible for the lecture programme. ESMA represents industrial, functional and specialist printing and acts as an organiser of educational events in the field of textile printing. At drupa speakers from research, development, and industry will address issues related to printing and finishing techniques, workflows, market developments and sustainability, to name but a few. The focus will also be on trends and applications that unlock ever new potential through the interplay of digital printing and textile printing substrates. The lectures are divided into the categories Research, Finishing, Print Systems & Hardware, Substrates, Inks & Chemistry and Software & Electronics. Assyst, for example, will deliver talks on the virtual development of apparel as well as the research project ECOShoring, which is funded by the “Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt” – DBU (German Federal Environmental Foundation) and focuses on personalised and on-demand sustainable manufacturing. Other speakers represent Adobe, Balta Group, Barbieri Electronic, Brother, Centexbel, CST, DITF, Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems, HS Albsig, Kornit Digital, Meteor Inkjet, Mimaki, Mitwill, Multiplot, Print-Rite, RWTH Aachen, Seiko Instruments, Tiger Coatings, Xaar, Zünd and the list is updated on regular basis.

Makroser Tekstil uses Mimaki TS300P-1800 for carpet production

Turkish company, Makroser Tekstil specialises in manufacturing digitally printed carpets and over the years has become one of the leading suppliers in the sector. Utilising Mimaki’s high-performance TS300P-1800 sublimation transfer printer since 2020, the company has optimised their production potential to meet increasing customer expectations in this growing digital textile carpet market.

Turkish company, Makroser Tekstil specialises in manufacturing digitally printed carpets and over the years has become one of the leading suppliers in the sector. Acting as both a seller and a supplier, Makroser Tekstil has an approximate monthly output of 150,000 square meters of final product and sells about 70-80,000 square meters of intermediate goods per month. “Our market has four main pillars, including chain market groups, export, e-commerce and our own retail network. We have gained serious momentum in the sales of our final products in recent years, and we attach great importance to our sales and marketing processes, in addition to production, so to increase our profitability. We are currently exporting 35-40% of our production, and our branding and e-commerce activities show that we are making significant improvements”, says Makroser Tekstil’s co-founder, Talha Güldest.

Makroser Tekstil decided to invest in a Mimaki TS300P-1800 sublimation transfer printer back in August 2020, with the aim to strengthen their position in the digitally printed carpet market. “The investment in the TS300P-1800 has enabled us to have the capacity to respond quickly to e-commerce orders,” Güldeste commented. “Product quality is the main criterion in the supplies we provide to both online and retail outlets. We made this investment because we saw that we would increase our quality and customer satisfaction in the carpets we print. The Mimaki printer met our expectations, providing the results we wanted from the very first print after installation.” Considering the increased demand, Güldeste aims to further boost their printing capacity with investment in several more Mimaki printers.

With the all-important COP26 Climate Change Conference having taken centre stage in November, there is no time like the present for the fashion world to rally together in stepping up sustainability efforts and getting carbon emissions under control. Globally, the fashion industry is now estimated to account for around 10 percent of greenhouse gas emissions and 20 percent of wastewater , making the pursuit of greener production methods more pertinent than ever before. Thankfully, we are seeing a new era of production enter the fashion arena, with the increasing emergence of technologically advanced, highly automated microfactories.

Along with reducing unnecessary waste through on-demand production, microfactories have a smaller ecological footprint than traditional garment production and require no water use during the production process, making it not only a faster solution, but a greener one too.

Along with reducing unnecessary waste through on-demand production, microfactories have a smaller ecological footprint than traditional garment production and require no water use during the production process, making it not only a faster solution, but a greener one too.

Last year’s FESPA saw Mimaki team up with fashion designer Carolina Guzman to bring her designs to life in real time at the show, setting up its own working microfactory live on-site to take her designs from screen to garment within just a day. Guzman’s designs were created using Mimaki’s TS100-1600 Sublimation Printer, before being transferred to textile, digitally cut and finally pieced together. Devised with a string of ethical and environmental objectives threaded throughout, the microfactory also exclusively utilised eco-friendly Greentex fabric, and any remaining material was donated to Sheltersuit: a wind- and waterproof coat that can be transformed into a sleeping bag, which is provided free of charge to homeless people and refugees.

Through working with a number of strategic partners – including transfer printing expert, Klieverik; paper solutions specialist, Neenah Coldenhove; and digital cutting equipment provider, Summa – Mimaki was able to produce a collection of unique, high-quality garments live on the stand during the tradeshow, demonstrating to visitors from more than 100 countries some of the key reasons that microfactories seem set to change the future of fashion…

Unparalleled speed and versatility
Where traditionally, apparel manufacturing has centred on a production chain model of sourcing materials and producing garments in bulk, microfactories are now enabling on-demand, on-location production, making it possible to create everything from unique, one-off pieces and samples right through to entire product lines – all at unprecedented speeds. This means greater flexibility and customisation, enabling designers to modify or update designs and respond to market trends as they occur.

Simplified supply chains and minimised risk
The microfactory setup brings production in-house and on-demand, minimising the cost of not only storing stock, but also of shipping it and responsibly disposing of unsold items. Where recent geopolitical events have highlighted the fragility of global supply chains, microfactories offer a unique independence from these systems, empowering garment manufacturers to future-proof their businesses, become less reliant on external systems and suppliers, and reduce the risk of disruptions.

A boosted bottom line and a greener future
Facilitating savings in a whole line of resources, from physical storage and production space to time and energy, microfactories ultimately have the potential to significantly increase profitability for garment manufacturers, with the additional benefit of being easily scalable as production increases. Perhaps even more compelling, however, are the environmental considerations. The Tiger-1800B MkII is Mimaki’s flagship industrial volume textile printer, available either in dye sublimation configuration for transfer printing or with reactive ink for direct-to-textile printing. Of the three Mimaki Tiger-1800B MkII solutions operating at Moti Fabrics (Pvt) Ltd., two are equipped with reactive inks, enabling the company to directly print onto natural fibres such as cotton and linen, as well as onto manufactured cellulose fibres, including rayon and nylon. The third Mimaki Tiger-1800B MkII features sublimation inks serves the ever-growing printed polyester market, allowing the company to strategically diversify its product portfolio.

The MAPS (Mimaki Advanced Pass System), just to name one, prevents banding and colour-shifting to deliver a higher standard of quality, while the NRS (Nozzle Recovery System) provides uninterrupted production, minimising downtime and ensuring superior results. The sticky belt system together with the large-size ink tanks (with a capacity of 10kg) and the high-performance software RIP TxLink3 are some of the other features that make these printers efficient, user-friendly and reliable,” says Asif.
