Oeko-Tex Standard 1000 and 100plus

Following the success of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, since 1995 companies have had the opportunity to publicise not only their testing for harmful substances but also the environmental conditions of their production. The test criteria for the Oeko-Tex Standard 1000 include prohibiting auxiliary agents and dyes which are harmful to the environment, keeping to guideline values for cleaning waste air and water, using energy economically, avoiding noise and dust and maintaining safety in the workplace. The Standard 1000 also requires that the basic elements of an environmental management system be introduced, and it bans child labour. Companies are tested by an auditor who is appointed by one of the members of the "Oeko-Tex International Test Association for Environmentally-friendly Textiles". The certificate is valid for three years and must be renewed regularly.

Together with product testing under Oeko-Tex Standard 100, the production site must be certificated under Standard 1000 as the prerequisite for endorsing these products under the Oeko-Tex Standard 100plus. It is also necessary to demonstrate that the entire production chain, i.e. all companies involved in the manufacture of a particular product, are certificated under Oeko-Tex Standard 1000, at least for the product line in question.
