Certification
By applying to an authorised
test institute of the International Oeko-Tex Association, companies
in the textile chain can have their products certificated. The extent
of testing required is determined by means of selected representative
samples or by presenting preliminary materials which have already been
certificated under Oeko-Tex. Once tests have been passed and a declaration
of conformity signed, the certificate can be issued. This certificate
entitles the company to endorse the certificated article group in question.
An Oeko-Tex certificate is valid for 12 months. The test number which
is issued on first certification is used on the Oeko-Tex label and remains
valid for as long as certification continues to be renewed. The certificate
can only be extended by applying for a further 12 months, and this
entails renewed testing of the materials being processed. The costs incurred
by certification are firstly the cost of the actual testing that is necessary,
which can be calculated by obtaining a cost estimate in advance, and secondly
the certification fee.
