Trevira: successful first half year 2010

In the second quarter of 2010, once again the business figures for Trevira GmbH are better than anticipated. Following a very satisfactory first quarter the results have exceeded expectations. “We finished the first six months with a turnover of around 120 million €, which is a good 10 percent above our forecast“, declares CEO Uwe Wöhner.

There are a variety of reasons for the stable and positive development of the fibre specialist. Firstly, the sustained recovery of the economy over recent months has ensured stability in demand from customers in the textile industry. And then the positive effects of the wide-ranging restructuring and cost-cutting programme are becoming increasingly evident. “These first six months of the new Trevira have been very successful ones, we have achieved all the targets we set, and even exceeded most of them,“ Wöhner continues. “All our capacities are being used to the full and we are getting only positive signals from customers in our most important market segments.“

Volumes and special products above forecast
In all segments sales volumes have been higher than expected and we have recorded clear growth, especially with flame retardant fibres and yarns. The automotive sector shows signs of healthy order books for the carmakers and there are pleasing developments in low-pill fibres for apparel, particularly in exports. The staple fibre business for non-wovens and technical applications continues to be very stable, with volumes exceeding levels forecast. ...read more

Texworld September 2010: ready-to-wear range on the increase

More than 100 exhibitors – from around 850 – will be specializing in clothing production at the next Texworld to be held at the Paris Le Bourget exhibition centre from 13th to 16th September 2010. “It is our intention to develop this sector as it is much in demand from our visitors”, explains Michael Scherpe, President of Messe France, who is keeping a close eye on how demand develops at clothing firms. An ever-increasing number of companies seek to verticalise production chains in order to optimise costs, reduce manufacturing time and restrict the number of outside contributors. “The demand is significant and we are responding to this need by opening our doors to companies specialising in full-packages and high quality products”, continues Michael Scherpe.

The CTAF – China Textile and Apparel Trade Fair – groups together around a hundred companies specialising in clothing production with genuine textile skills, sometimes based on centuries of tradition. Their aim is to develop a range of high-end products which will meet the requirements of Western markets for quality and style. These manufacturers come from the regions of Beijing, Jiangsu, JueXi or Zhejiang and offer fine embroidery, incredibly supple silks or knits that are highly valued by players in the sector. The number of exhibitors at CTAF having almost doubled in size for the next Texworld show bears witness to intentions to strengthen the economic and professional ties between China and the European markets. “Our participation at Texworld is an opportunity to forge ties and to create long-term collaboration between our exhibitors and clients in the West. We offer endless ranges of very different products that meet the needs firms may have, and we set up whatever is necessary to best respond to our clients’ demands for quality and prompt delivery”, explains Zhang Tao, from CCPIT-Tex. ... more

ADVANSA ENLARGES ITS ECOLOGICAL OFFER WITH THERMOºCOOL™ SOFT’TECH ECO2

One of ADVANSA’s key values guiding the development of new products is environmental protection; reducing the environmental impact of the company’s activities with environmentally responsible strategies and industrial procedures, to develop eco-friendly products. ADVANSA´s new THERMOºCOOL™ SOFT’TECH ECO2 offers to consumers a more eco-responsible option by using fibre technologies that leave a lower CO2 footprint.

To meet consumer’s demand for technically advanced garments that are also environmentally friendly, ADVANSA offers fibres and yarns that leave a lower CO2 footprint. coldblack® nominated for the German Design Prize

The Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany is the highest official German award in the area of design. Often described as the “prize of prizes”, no other design prize makes similarly high requirements of the participants. A company can only take part in the competition for the design prize when its products have already received national or international awards. A further prerequisite for participation is nomination through the Departments of Trade and Industry of the federal states or through the Federal Ministry for Business and Technology. “The nomination has taken us totally by surprise, admits Hans U. Kohn from Schoeller Technologies. “It is an almost seamless extension to the Swiss equivalent, which we won in November 2009. However, as a Swiss company we did not anticipate this nomination.” On the product side, recognition for the “sun protection technology” is also high. For example, in February Thoni Mara was nominated for the ISPO Brand New Award for his marathon collection; in the spring, Gustav Daiber took the Promotional Gift Award 2010 for a high-quality flexifit cap with coldblack® finish and in April mountain sports pants from Vaude were honoured with the German Outdoor magazine’s Editor’s Choice Award.

Eagerly awaited now is the decision of the high profile jury of The Design Prize at the end of the year. Among the prize winners in the last few years were the light designer Ingo Maurer and companies such as Audi, BMW, Bulthaup, Ruckstuhl and Brad Pitt’s “Pink Project” for the reconstruction of New Orleans.

Textile Reinforced Composites foster key industries

New key technology: light-weight design
Global competition and sustainable economics are fostering the development of highly resource-efficient products and related production technologies: Textile Reinforced Composites represent a key technology, meeting these challenges. They combine superior mechanical properties due to the use of high performance fibre materials with a broad range of possible applications. Light weight design and tailored property profiles are the most important issues addressed by the sectors automotive, aerospace, medical technology, energy, civil and mechanical engineering and sport equipment. Companies investing in this technology will be prepared to develop new applications, to open up promising business sectors and thus to position themselves at a competitive edge.

Know how-Transfer by a tailored certificate course in September 2010
The exploitation of the potentials of Textile Reinforced Composites (TRC) is related to specific know-how. Addressing the need of expertise in this field, the renowned TRC-related experts of RWTH Aachen University (D) of Institut für Textiltechnik and KU Leuven (B) of Composites Materials Group have designed a new certificate course tailored to the needs of industry. Participants will be trained to evaluate and exploit the specific potential TRC and the related manufacturing and simulation technologies with regard to their professional background.
This course is tailored to the needs of young professionals with engineering background, who want to exploit the potential of TRC for the design of new products in their companies. The two weeks-course will take place from 13 - 17 September 2010 in Aachen and from 20 - 24 September 2010 in Leuven.
